I apologize if these questions were asked before, but I could not find anything that helped through searching.
Both my wife and I are having issues with the signal on our phones. We get drops and a weird noise occasionally occurs (a weird gargle sounding noise or something like a fax machine). I'm running the latest Ultragen, and she's running the latest AntonX Barebones. I just find it weird that both phones do the same thing.
So, the question is, do all these ROMs use the same modem? Could switching to a different modem help solve the issues I'm having? How do I find out which ROM uses which modem? There's nothing listed in the phone's "about" section of which modem is being used.
Any feedback would be awesome!
About phone>baseband. That will tell you what modem your running. Fb's got thread for modems in the Dev section.
Try some and see if it fixes it. I've never had that issue and don't remember anyone else having it either.
Thanks, Hechoen! I'll check out FB's thread and just do some trial & errors. I'll definitely post back with my findings just in case anyone else runs into this issue.
I forgot to mention that I'm on T-mobile; although I doubt it is carrier related since both phones are having the same problem and I'm in Chicago, where the signal is strong.
For what it's worth I guess TMOB and MetroPCS are in the process of merging. Some people on are having strange issues. So if this has started recently I'd call TMOB and *****. Also try going back to stock on both phones for a few days. If it still does it then call TMOB and ***** some more. LOL Good luck.
I didn't know they started implementing that... I'm definitely gonna *****! LOL Thanks for the heads up!

Sound like an interesting proposal for them to merge if they could only get their four g up and.running it would be great

I hope this is in the right place if not I apologize. Anyways I was running AOSP v0.9 and this morning I turned off data to conserve battery life. After that my phone will only connect to 1x and it is always roaming. It seems to realize that it is supposed to be on USCC it even says USCC in the status bar. So I called customer service and they told me to do a *228 and from what I hear this is really bad for anyone running ASOP then I did it anyways and it connected me to verizon so I disconnected the call and am still stuck roaming and with no 3g. Then I decided to switch back to MIUI and I'm still having the same problems. Another weird note, if I set my network to automatic it kills my connection but if I put it on home only I am roaming. Any ideas guys.

This is the same issue I posted earlier that I haven't resolved yet. I am getting the verizon thing when I dial *228 as well. It is really frustrating because the phone is virtually unusable for data now. Hopefully we get it figured out. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

OK so after doing some research, it looks like this issue can happen if you disable your data (using a toggle, such as the ones in the notification bars of some roms), and then flash a new rom or kernel or something with the data off. It looks like it wipes the APN? Anyone know if this sounds like what may be the issue or how we might go about fixing it?
Well I just got off an hour long call with tech support they think it is an issue with the radio and want me to do an exchange since I bought it less than thirty days ago. So I don't know maybe I should just cancel this and get a new phone with a new carrier. Maybe something with 4g. But I love this phone so I don't know what I'm going to do. Keep me updated if you find a fix.

Check the Showcase AOSP thread. I managed to find a little trick that fixed our phones suffering from the same issue. Its worth a shot on yours.

Tried your method and nothing. Kind of running out of ideas here. Any radio/modem I should need would be in the ROM right? I have gone as far as to flash all the way back to DI14 and can't get this thing to work. Still can't figure out how it even happened in the first place.
Well I figured it out for me anyways. Call US cellular and they will give you a new phone under warranty. I'm on mine now. It is back to 2.1 and stock but it works!

Just got mine working about 10 minutes ago. Call USCC tech and they said that for some reason I was no longer "provisioned" for 3G service so they fixed it. I know our issues were a little different. Glad we're both up and running again. Now lets see if I can do something else to screw this up . . . . .

Amen to that I spent 4 hours on the phone with them yesterday and they couldn't fix it. So the actually brought me a new phone to my work. I couldn't believe they would do something like that.

Wow now that's service. I have to say US Cellular has hands down the best customer service I have ever had to deal with. Store, tech support, billing. Everything.

Well it only took me about three hours I tried flashing a new kernel with an app I downloaded from the market can't remember the name but of course everything went to hell. Since I don't have a computer it took me 2 days to find one and get it flaked to stock in odin now my speaker doesn't work oh well maybe in another couple of days I can flag it again. Maybe I should just quit screwing worth it but it's just to much fun lol.

So I flashed the new radio onto my device (TweakStock with kernel version 2.6.35.7-EP4-g311a209). Baseband confirms FP1.
Still get snap, crackle and pop on calls whenever I change the volume during a call.
Hate this phone compared to my old Fassy.
Maybe if you stop adding milk it won't snap crackle and pop?
Have you tried a warranty replacement?
Sent from my handheld Linux computer using electromagnetic radiation.
Doesn't the kernel communicate between the hardware and software? Perhaps you need the FP1 kernel as well to get all the benefits mentioned in the update package.
I have updated to full FP1 stock, but I have never had the popping/crackling issue so I can't tell you if it makes a difference.
Wrong thread
I am still getting the static/pop and I am completely stock. I going to go back to a EP4D rom later this week.

As imnuts said in another thread, the fix is most likely a combined radio+kernel update. You shouldn't expect it to fix anything if you're still running EP4D. I haven't experienced any call quality issues whatsoever running Nitro's FP1.
Fwiw I've never had a sound issue w/volume changes, Froyo, gummy, various leaks, ep4x, fp1 stock, or eclipse ohm Food modem. Very rare static on outgoing calls, like 5 since 6/11, but that's it. Maybe hardware?

Made a few calls, did the usual things to reproduce the issue....I *think* I heard it happening on one of my calls. I'll have to make a few more but so far I'm not hopeful
I just hope it fixes the rare, but horribly loud shrieking that has hurt my ears on a few occasions. Admittedly, I don't think I've had that problem since the EP4D radios, but...
I still drop calls on these radios. I don't think I can tell a difference with these radios, however, it does sortof seem like I get a bit more throughput. What boggles my mind is how insanely variable bandwidth and latency is on the cell networks. I can't ever seem to get consistent results unless its like 4am and the phone is on the case's stand, stationary. Even then the speedtest results vary a lot.
One interesting thing is that my connection appears to be more stable since I've un- 3G Turbocharged. That script seemed to make the radios more unstable. I've been comparing my Charge's 3G to the Verizon MiFi by Novatel, and I gotta say, the Charge does appear to be more stable and provide a better overall connection (except when it doesn't.)
Didn't want to derail, but I cannot scientifically conclude much about the radio performance- it seems to not suck as bad. Then again, I am not running the FP1 ROM or kernel...

Yeah that would be the only way to determine if it had any effect is comparing it to something like the MiFi before and after. Speeds in my area don't drop during busy hours or anything like that because on a mifi they stay steady around 20mbits all the time, apparently they aren't overcrowded yet. So I must say the new radios do seem more consistent. Before I would jump around from 5-20mbits. Now I'm constantly 18+mbits down and 15+mbits UP

Issue is not fixed. I am on stock and the first call i made after the upgrade I had static and pop. So lame. This is also my second replacement for the same issue.
I basically STILL get a "squeal" that lasts about 1/4 second and happens at random. I have updated to FP1 and it is still there!!! AHHH!
Any chance not mounting the system could affect the accuracy of the flash in CWM? I didn't mount before flashing. Now I went back and did it...we'll see.

Suspicion was confirmed, I still have the annoying snap/crackle/pop sounds while making phone calls
Horrible Shrieking
Though it happens very rarely, I've gotten an intermittent LOUD 1/4 second shrieking static sound during phone calls that makes my ears bleed and kills all puppies and kittens in my immediate vicinity. It only happens maybe once every few months but it will continue happening every few seconds until I end the call. This is my second Droid Charge, been through every ROM and radio under the Sun on both phones.
I'm now on TS1.4/PBJ/FP1 and it still happens. As mentioned above, it is likely a combined kernel/radio problem, so maybe going full stock FP1 will resolve it. It is such an infrequent issue, however, that I will probably just continue to deal with it.
Since I got EP4D radios, my data connection has been flawless (before EP4D I was better off using carrier pigeons), but the FP1 radios have given me a noticeable increase in speed. That said, I don't really need more than 25Mb/s, but now I get 40 down and 20 up according to Speedtest.

There is a thread out there someplace where a group of coworkers with the same phone narrowed it down to specific hardware versions of the charge. I used to have the problem as well but after calling for a replacement and receiving a device with a different hardware version, I've had no problem! Search for that thread....check you hardware version under your battery yo see if its one of the affected listed on that thread. For the life of me, I can't remember the thread title otherwise I'd just post it.

Same problem for me.. i'm on DC #3. today i spoke with a tech, and instead of troubleshooting the phone again, she offered me a factory reconditioned Nexus.. it will be here tomorrow.. not new but better than a 4th DC... what's funny is, just 2 weeks ago they said i couldn't get another type of phone.. i also have the insurance so if that messes up i can get that replaced too.. FYI.. she also said there was no reports of problems with that phone after the new update, i strongly suggest calling and reporting it. if it helps my tech was named Jenifer..

Maybe this should go into Q&A, if that's the case move or let me know and I'll do it.
Just have a general question. Can too much flashing affect the phone behavior?
I ask this because lately I've been trying different ROMs (the last week more than ever) and I'm seeing that internet speeds has decreased to a ridiculous 64kbps download - 240kbps upload.
The only thing I've done different is trying different ROMS, so here's my question. Will it be this the cause? Will it be better if I take back to stock and go up testing if the speeds are better on each ROM i'm getting flashed?
Or has anyone faced the same issue? Thanks in advance.
And a general answer would be yes.
A couple of things that may help:
-Delete everthing you are not using on phone's internal and external memory. If there is something you are uncertain about, perhaps best to leave it.
-Use an app from Play called Cachemate (free). Run every 3-5 days.
-Turn your phone off for 3-5 mins. every couple of days to let things reset.
There are a lot of people who take their phones back to stock betwwen flashes, most likely a good idea but can be a pain from gb to ics to jb.
-You may also want to reset your router.
This should be in Q&A as it is a question however do not re-post a duplicate thread.
Good luck !!
I had the feeling you were going to help
I'll try that and see what happens. Everything is fine with the phone except for that.

One more note - check the OP and thread for the ROM that causes the problem as it may be a known issue for that ROM (and will perhaps be a fix.)

Guys this can be marked as solved
It turned out my SIM is damaged (apparently) cause I took my wife´s SIM and put it on my phone and the internet speed was perfect.
Tomorrow Im going to ask for a new one or something. At least I´m glad is not the ROM or ROMs I´m trying xD
I've had a strange issue with my Blaze lately, I'm on the latest version of CM10 with the UVMB1 modem. For some reason texts will drop sometimes. It doesn't seem to happen often or consistently, I'll fire off the text, it will say that it was delivered, and then I'll find out like a day or two later that it never sent. Really frustrating, wondering if anyone else has had the same issue and if so what the fix is for it?

Ha that's funny. I just went back to stock (by far the best battery life based on how I use my phone) and I am getting random people calling me saying that I just called them. It appears someone has a grudge against me and is spoofing my number. Sad thing is that this happened a year ago and so many random people were calling me I had to change my number to make it stop.
Personally I'm starting to think it's related to wifi calling, as after I changed my number I ran exclusively 4.1.x with no wifi calling without this issue and 2 days after going to stock with using wifi calling it's happening again...
I guess what I'm trying to say is a few dropped texts isn't as bad as you might think...
You could always try a different radio. I use the s2's UVMC6 radio and it gets me reception that i never had before. I was also getting double texts and this radio stopped that as well. Here's the link to a flashable zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31769119

Hi everybody. I recently moved into the top floor of a house but for some reason have terrible service. Can't even have a phone conversation. I've tried numerous radios and modems and touchwiz and aosp ROMs. I'm getting very frustrated and am looking for some ideas of what to do. Anyone experienced this or know any possible solutions? Very frustrating not being able to have a phone conversation at your own home.
Thanks

3 options.
1. Buy an expensive amplifier
2. Use your WiFi with google voice and a program like Talkatone. Just gotta deal with the whole having a new number thing. ("hey let me call you back")
3. Deal with it
I have the same issues. You could have a friend come over, with a different service, and see if they get a signal. Then consider switching carriers.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
4. Tell Verizon and they might let you switch to a different phone of equal value... Like the DNA which is better at signal.

I had similar problems. When I contacted Verizon about it, they gave me a free network extender. You plug it into your existing internet connection and it uses that to make phone calls. Your connection has to support voip and they'll make you run some tests. The free one I got was refurbished, but it looks and acts completely like new. My other choice was 100 dollars off of a new one.
