I've had a strange issue with my Blaze lately, I'm on the latest version of CM10 with the UVMB1 modem. For some reason texts will drop sometimes. It doesn't seem to happen often or consistently, I'll fire off the text, it will say that it was delivered, and then I'll find out like a day or two later that it never sent. Really frustrating, wondering if anyone else has had the same issue and if so what the fix is for it?

Ha that's funny. I just went back to stock (by far the best battery life based on how I use my phone) and I am getting random people calling me saying that I just called them. It appears someone has a grudge against me and is spoofing my number. Sad thing is that this happened a year ago and so many random people were calling me I had to change my number to make it stop.
Personally I'm starting to think it's related to wifi calling, as after I changed my number I ran exclusively 4.1.x with no wifi calling without this issue and 2 days after going to stock with using wifi calling it's happening again...
I guess what I'm trying to say is a few dropped texts isn't as bad as you might think...
You could always try a different radio. I use the s2's UVMC6 radio and it gets me reception that i never had before. I was also getting double texts and this radio stopped that as well. Here's the link to a flashable zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31769119

No difference in battery life. No glitches. Flashing that radio has only made my phone better. Don't know if it'll help your situation, but worth a try...

Team BAMF has their own forum now...you might get better results speaking with the developers of the ROM, although I'm certain there are plenty of fans still here on XDA.

agreed, but i wanted to know if it was happening on other roms also or if its the radio
That's always happened on mine. Even had them send me a new phone, same issue. These are both stock phones. Happens mostly using hotspot but also if I'm just using the radio. I use a lot of data, happens at least once a day. The data completely drops, but I have full signal.
So I flashed the new radio onto my device (TweakStock with kernel version 2.6.35.7-EP4-g311a209). Baseband confirms FP1.
Still get snap, crackle and pop on calls whenever I change the volume during a call.
Hate this phone compared to my old Fassy.
Maybe if you stop adding milk it won't snap crackle and pop?
Have you tried a warranty replacement?
Sent from my handheld Linux computer using electromagnetic radiation.
Doesn't the kernel communicate between the hardware and software? Perhaps you need the FP1 kernel as well to get all the benefits mentioned in the update package.
I have updated to full FP1 stock, but I have never had the popping/crackling issue so I can't tell you if it makes a difference.
Wrong thread
I am still getting the static/pop and I am completely stock. I going to go back to a EP4D rom later this week.

As imnuts said in another thread, the fix is most likely a combined radio+kernel update. You shouldn't expect it to fix anything if you're still running EP4D. I haven't experienced any call quality issues whatsoever running Nitro's FP1.
Fwiw I've never had a sound issue w/volume changes, Froyo, gummy, various leaks, ep4x, fp1 stock, or eclipse ohm Food modem. Very rare static on outgoing calls, like 5 since 6/11, but that's it. Maybe hardware?

Made a few calls, did the usual things to reproduce the issue....I *think* I heard it happening on one of my calls. I'll have to make a few more but so far I'm not hopeful
I just hope it fixes the rare, but horribly loud shrieking that has hurt my ears on a few occasions. Admittedly, I don't think I've had that problem since the EP4D radios, but...
I still drop calls on these radios. I don't think I can tell a difference with these radios, however, it does sortof seem like I get a bit more throughput. What boggles my mind is how insanely variable bandwidth and latency is on the cell networks. I can't ever seem to get consistent results unless its like 4am and the phone is on the case's stand, stationary. Even then the speedtest results vary a lot.
One interesting thing is that my connection appears to be more stable since I've un- 3G Turbocharged. That script seemed to make the radios more unstable. I've been comparing my Charge's 3G to the Verizon MiFi by Novatel, and I gotta say, the Charge does appear to be more stable and provide a better overall connection (except when it doesn't.)
Didn't want to derail, but I cannot scientifically conclude much about the radio performance- it seems to not suck as bad. Then again, I am not running the FP1 ROM or kernel...

Yeah that would be the only way to determine if it had any effect is comparing it to something like the MiFi before and after. Speeds in my area don't drop during busy hours or anything like that because on a mifi they stay steady around 20mbits all the time, apparently they aren't overcrowded yet. So I must say the new radios do seem more consistent. Before I would jump around from 5-20mbits. Now I'm constantly 18+mbits down and 15+mbits UP

Issue is not fixed. I am on stock and the first call i made after the upgrade I had static and pop. So lame. This is also my second replacement for the same issue.
I basically STILL get a "squeal" that lasts about 1/4 second and happens at random. I have updated to FP1 and it is still there!!! AHHH!
Any chance not mounting the system could affect the accuracy of the flash in CWM? I didn't mount before flashing. Now I went back and did it...we'll see.

Suspicion was confirmed, I still have the annoying snap/crackle/pop sounds while making phone calls
Horrible Shrieking
Though it happens very rarely, I've gotten an intermittent LOUD 1/4 second shrieking static sound during phone calls that makes my ears bleed and kills all puppies and kittens in my immediate vicinity. It only happens maybe once every few months but it will continue happening every few seconds until I end the call. This is my second Droid Charge, been through every ROM and radio under the Sun on both phones.
I'm now on TS1.4/PBJ/FP1 and it still happens. As mentioned above, it is likely a combined kernel/radio problem, so maybe going full stock FP1 will resolve it. It is such an infrequent issue, however, that I will probably just continue to deal with it.
Since I got EP4D radios, my data connection has been flawless (before EP4D I was better off using carrier pigeons), but the FP1 radios have given me a noticeable increase in speed. That said, I don't really need more than 25Mb/s, but now I get 40 down and 20 up according to Speedtest.

There is a thread out there someplace where a group of coworkers with the same phone narrowed it down to specific hardware versions of the charge. I used to have the problem as well but after calling for a replacement and receiving a device with a different hardware version, I've had no problem! Search for that thread....check you hardware version under your battery yo see if its one of the affected listed on that thread. For the life of me, I can't remember the thread title otherwise I'd just post it.

Hello, I am hoping someone can set me straight on the flashing of modems/radios and what is the proper way to do it.
Do they have to be flashed during the rom flash and then never touched until the next rom flash or can they just be flashed any old time?
The reason I ask is because I was booting into CWM and flashing each Modem/Radio one at a time and testing them out. I narrowed it down to one that had the best call quality but after flashing back to it the quality was worse then it was the first time I had flashed that one. Is it possible for a modem to install differently the second time? I am not running any formatting or clearing anything.
Why would the same modem/radio give different call quality on different installs?? Should I only be installing the modems/radios at the beginning when I first flash the rom?
Would like to sort this out as my outgoing call quality is pretty bad. Tested my SIM card in my old Galaxy S on CM9 and it sounded a million times better. My Galaxy S2 LTE is on SKY ICS 4.2F6.
You can flash a new radio/kernel on your phone any time after you've flashed the rom (as roms usually flash a radio/kernal when you flash the base) and it should not have any adverse effects on your phone (unless the kernel/radio is buggy/bad for your phone).
As far as formatting/clearing, I habitually clear my cache whenever I update anything on my phone and I haven't had any issues with deteriorating call quality and the like.
That is strange. My outgoing call quality is so bad compared to my Galaxy S on CM9.
I just flashed my phone to CM9 RC2 and will see how that goes. Now I just have to wait for a friend to give me a hand testing call quality.
It's really strange how I had different results with the same radio but different installs.

I'm actually running CM9 RC2 as well and am having major issues with the radio that gets flashed with it (UCLF6) as I live in a test LTE area. The reception goes to 0 to full every 2 seconds and I never get any phone calls or missed calls when people call me.
CM9 RC2 seems to have an issue with the LTE toggle, Network Mode and "2G only" features. As soon as u turn it on, it auto switches back to the default LTE being on.
I did a little bit of research and found that I would need to flash a "RAT UNLOCKED" radio. My concern is the same as the OP in that I'm a little confused as to the proper method and steps to doing this. Any help is greatly appreciated. I think both me and the OP will benefit.
I've attached a screenshot of my about phone page.
Thanks!
I recall seeing those "RAT Unlocked" radios listed on Mohan's Embryo thread.
It can be seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754473
I have no idea if those radios can be used with CM9 or not but I'm thinking of trying the embryo ROM and seeing how my call quality goes.
My problem is nowhere near as severe as yours. I get decent signal and can receive calls fine. My outgoing audio just sounds horrible and garbled. Who knows, maybe my issues also has something to do with LTE.

That as almost correct. ROMs usually contain a kernel and the /system. They almost never contain a radio. That being said, yes, you can flash a new radio at any time. There are quite a number of radios for the Skyrocket because each ICS leak pretty much had a new one. You should have no issues flashing either a Rogers or AT&T radio on a Skyrocket. From what I've read and seen, different areas of the country do better on different radios. I would personally start with the radio from either the AT&T or Rogers official release and then work backwards from there.

The radios should work the same regardless of the ROM.
okay that sounds promising. to flash a radio do you simply flash the zip over everything on CWM? do u need to clear or format anything? once you flash do you need to change any APN settings or anything? sorry if these questions seem novice but i usually just use the stock radio. fist time doin this
Also: Where can i find and download the official rogers modems?

HMM.. Any idea why I would be experiencing these problems then? Just seems strange that I installed the same radio twice and it had different results on each install. Do you think it could be a phone hardware issue?
Would it matter if my phone is a Rogers and I am running an AT&T radio? Maybe I should try the Rogers radios?
@Ompalompa287
From what I gather... Just flashing the zip in CWM is all you need to do. No settings to change or anything. I have heard of some people wiping cache as well.
I just simply need to know if there is anyway to disable 3g (force to edge) network? I have a at&t Skyrocket running cm9 Chopsticks.

So I just found out my phone has Noise Cancellation for the microphone. Maybe it's the noise cancellation mic that is causing the issues.
Does anyone know how I can disable the noise cancellation to test this theory?

It's definitely not in there. Strange, I wonder why it was removed from SKY ICS.
I've been using my Rogers HOX ever since it came out but always had random data drops. Tried all kinds of radios (with or without RIL) and all kinds of roms and the issue is still there. Losing data is not the biggest issue but it also drops the battery real quick because it keeps trying to connect.
Anybody ever find a solution to this?
I'm using the HOX on Straight Talk and lately I have noticed that when I have WiFi on for a while, assuming it stays connected, I lose mobile data. The only thing that bring it back is toggling airplane mode or rebooting the phone.
I am on Jellybean, and I am not sure if the issue was present in the stock ROM's.
Yep still having the same problem on AT&T with every combination of Kernel/ROM/Radio you can think of. I can also say that it isn't a "rooted only" problem because a coworker is having the same issues on 100% stock software. OP, have you restored your stock setup to see if the issue persists? Basic question, but for the sake of a starting point.
After so long, finaly found the problem. I don't know if it'll be the same for everyone but the problem was Swiftkey keyboard. The moment I uninstalled it, the problem did not reoccur.
I have the same problem and I can assure you its not the phone, I have used many android phones, iPhones, and regular phones on rogers 3G network and they all have the data drops in general like dropping to 1 bar and no service once and while.
You might want to switch your network to wcdma/gsm instead of wcdma/gsm/LTE. If you dont have the correct APN for the rogers lte network it will keep searching for the lte nrtwork causing the data drop. As soon as I turned my lte toggle off the network stopped dropping randomly though I still get those random data drops caused by the network

We had this issue with the rezound, it actually occurred because you flashed different radios.
You had to flash a ruu or a modified one without the system image. See my SIG
So try flashing a ruu, this doesn't explain someone with a stock phone having issues but I bet that's just tower issues
I don't have any of these issues

Wow, you might be onto something here. I just installed SwiftKey last night and immediately started having issues. Data has been off-and-on with different versions of different ROMs, and never suspected that my issues may lie within an app that I was using. I was mucking about with radio ROMs and a million other settings, never realizing that SwiftKey was installed right around the time I started having issues on each ROM.
I'm going to jump back to CM10 this evening and see if this was my issue.
THANK YOU in advance! (Thanks button has been hit!) Nice work!
You gotta be sh***ing me! After all this time scouring xda and numerous other sites.starting my own tread it was SwiftKey all along? Wtf? I did a thousand different things. Nothing worked, took off Swiftkey, bam, flawless. I've got a T-mobile GS3 incase anyway was wondering, no, apparently it's not just with htc or AT&T/Rodgers. Weird though cuz my wife has a AT&T GS3 with Swiftkey and has no issues whatsoever... Did you dl your version from the playstore or from a 3rd party? Thanks a million for posting your solution. This was absolutely killing me. God do I hate this stock keyboard though...
It's easily 50% worse than my last phone (palm pre 3) and I've never had issues at my home with anyone's verizon phone.
I did flash LK1 RPM and Radio from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007414
I'm not sure if that has any bearing on it and am also not sure if it was like that before. I did it all when I was in town.
Is there another radio I can flash and see if it's better? Or does the GSIII just have garbage reception on the outskirts?
TIA TIA
Diddo on all that..here is a list with all the modems.let me know if you find the best

and the mean jellybean one I posted above.
To be honest when I first flashed any ROM on to my GS3 my reception was terrible. Every ROM that I used was the same, I also tried every radio available.
My only solution was just to go back to stock which I did now this Stock ICS has me at 4-5 bars everywhere I go.
My last CM ROM had me at 0-1 bar in the same places.
I hope this helps.
Check to see if you have the updated prl version 15154. Do this by going to settings, about phone, status. I think that is an updated list of the towers and that could be your problem. If its not the updated version just shut phone off take out SIM card for 2 min and then just start it up and it should automatically update. I read this somewhere in another post and just figured i'd pass it on. Hope it helps.

Unfortunately I'm already on this PRL
Going to try some ICS roms I guess.
I have tried each radio as they have come out with mixed reviews. Some are better than others for me but YMMV. I have found the latest VRLK1 is what works best for me. I came from the Thunderbolt, and I really miss the reception I had with that phone; however, that is the ONLY thing I miss about it. I am currently running CleanRom v5.0 and VRLK1. I definitely get the best reception, and can maintain 4G at work while the other radios would drop to 3g or 1x. I only hope it continues to improve, but I don't think it will ever be as good as I had with the Thunderbolt. Good Luck.

I tried every radio I agree the newest seemed to work best but still was ridiculous. Barely any service even though I had two bars at times. Not enough for a single call and had to be by a window to get spotty text service.
Traded for a lumia 822. Works perfect.
This is funny. Coming from the nexus this phone has way more signal and better reception. Instant switching from 3g to 4g and to wifi. Ive tried every radio and they all work very well. Tried on my nexus and all were horrible. Just my .02 cents but this phone rocks.

TIA TIA

As others have said try out all of the older radios and use whichever one works best for you. Unfortunately, this phone is not particularly known for having a strong radio (and no software update is ever going to really fix that).
If you are really on a fringe area of service, this might not be the best phone for you. In my experience, Motorola phones have always had the best radios in the industry, and are the most reliable in fringe service areas.
