[Q] Lag problem - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So I've been having this reoccurring problem with a couple of 4.2.1 ROMs recently. Certain games cause my phone to lag like I'm playing a game at 5 FPS. The only game I can think of right now that causes this is "Fun Run," but I've opened other games and the same issue has occurred.
Everything is lagged until I keep the screen off for a little bit, or reset the phone in some cases. This involves the UI, any other apps, games, etc.
I did not have this issue prior to flashing 4.2.1. Every 4.1 build that I tested was fine, but out of the two 4.2.1 ROMs I've tried, (SlimBean 4.2.1 RC1, and CyanogenMod 10.1), I get the same problem.
Any idea what the problem is and how I can go about fixing this?

I experienced the same lag, but I just went back to more stable roms. You can try the entrophy seeder app from the xda portal, it apparently reduces lag but I haven't experienced anything major.

Yeah, I know 4.1 doesn't have this issue. I like 4.2.1 better but I guess I'll have to wait it out a little bit more before getting that stability.
Anyways, thanks, I'll give the app a try.

Graphic glitches

My One S glitches on all 2D games no matter if stock or rooted or with any combination of ROMs and kernels. I should have taken it back when I first noticed it with in the first couple days of owning it. Here are screens showing the glitching. I tried using Chainfire3D and different drivers hoping it would fix it to no avail. Do you think it down to bad hardware?

I thought Chainfire 3D required S-Off in HTC devices, otherwise it doesnt do anything. Have you noticed the glitches in any other apps besides games?

I tried Chainfire3d as a last effort. I thought it wouldn't work but hoped i would get lucky
It glitchse and flickers street names in GPS as well. Also, Flipboard flickers while flipping through stories. However, none of the benchmark apps display this behavior. Osmos, Where's My Water and Cut the Rope are the worst. I'm at a loss.
Current settings:
Trickdroid 6.1.0
Virtuous kernel v0.6
No tweaks no OC
Flashed back to Trickdroid 5.0 TMOUS and graphics have stabilized. Something in the updates does not agree with my phone . It still glitches but much less and games are at least playable. I'll keep the One S for now...:good:

Synergy ROM lag issues

Welp, since i haven't posted more than 10 times I cannot post in the forum where this needs to be seen, but here it goes anyways. I'm running the most current build of Synergy ROM and noticed when I am in Google Earth, I seem to get ridiculous lag issues. I've been running Synergy since it became available on the VGS3 and haven't noticed any issues with it in the past. Does anyone else have lag issues in Google Earth while running Synergy?
I think it's just the app.... It's loading quite a bit of data. When after a location has rendered and you touch it, it has to re render things making it laggy again. Was is smooth before and you just updated and it's laggy now? I guess I've never seen it run 100% smooth ever.
Sent from my Galaxy S III
Well I don't use the app often. But I feel like it ran a little smoother with the stock rom. I had actually just changed my clock frequency with No Frills CPU and had yet to reboot or anything. Seemed to run a little bit faster after the reboot.

[Q] AOKP, AOSP and questions.

Hey everyone! Lately I have been lookin' for some roms without sense, mainly AOSP (which there seem to be a lack of). I have run with CM10 so far, and it seems to have a lot of scrolling lag. Does AOKP have any scrolling lag in your experience? I
If any of you have some suggestions, I'd like to hear them

I gave CM10 a try, I didn't really have any scrolling lag, more that it just felt "heavy".
My issue was with how generally unstable it was, within 24 hours of flashing I was getting reboots every 10-20 mins, during low-intensity tasks or even while not using the phone.

Use Paradnoid Android roms made for jelly bean source. Yes CM10 program. Very buttery. Cheers
AOKP > CM > Paranoid (and other tablet blends) > AOSP
would you rather have a fast basic phone, or a phone that has plenty of options? sure it might be a second or two slower but imagine using phones 5-10 years ago.. those things were turtles

U serious?? let the rom settle or reflash the rom after a full wipe.. been using it since couple of months.. random boots ya but only one 2-3 specific builds which were 3 weeks ago.. its really really stable except for the heavy scroll issue all cyanogenmods hav
For the random reboots just move the min clock freq from 192 to 386

Well I have used Bruce's CM10 rom and I love it so far. The only bug I had was that the SD card (class4) was pushing out 2 mb/s, I fixed that with flashing the kernel though (I thought the rom applied that automatically). The battery life is good, loads of internal memory and I freakin' love the launcher!
Well, I'd like to a try an AOKP rom.. but I am so satisfied with CM's current stabillity and kernel. Maybe I will in the nearest future though
I'm really happy with aokp and its stability!

Fresh install of cleanROM 3.0.4?

So I finally bit the bullet and rooted, unlocked and flashed cleanROM on my TF700. I wiped both caches (or so I thought) but when I rebooted not much seemed to have changed. I guess I was expecting to have to completely reinstall all my apps and settings. However, all of the my apps and icons where right where I left them. Matter of fact at first I couldn't even tell anything had changed until I looked at the "about tablet" section and saw that the build version was in fact cleanROM.
Don't get me wrong, this thing seems to fly now, but I can't shake the feeling that I missed something during flashing. Was there an option I missed or should I have wiped it?
Thanks.

No.
You did it perfectly. :good: CROMI is a stock based ROM and as such you get to keep all your data, apps and settings. The look is stock too
What you do get is root, performance tweaks (memory, zip aligned, cpu, touch sensitivity, dpi), updated Asus and google apps, extra apps installed to system, system apps removed if you didn't select them as well as other tweaks, functionality (swipe JB keyboard, smoother scrolling, faster performance, faster kernel, ad blocking) if you selected them
Make sure you install the 3.0.4 patch if you havent done so already.
I also bit the bullet today, not regretting it so far. Cleanrom is sweet!

Hang on you did install 3.0.3 first right?
Hi
I am really happy too with cleanrom 3.0.4, but there is one little problem. I get random reboots now and than. Can not find a reason for them. Sometimes playn a game, than reboot while reading news site in browser or a mail in anmail app.
Nothing special. Can i give someone any reports or logs so that the problem Can be located?
What are the best ways to try to solve this?
Factory reset? Or using different kernel or something?
Right now:
Tf700 with cleanRom inheritance 3.0.4
Kernel 3.1.10
[email protected] #53
Can someone give an advice?
Thx

How concerned should I be about the fsync issue? Should I worry about data corruption, or the entire os getting corrupted, or just backup regularly and not worry about it?

Which kernal are you using? Fsync Disabled?
Reinstall the rom but choose the stock Asus tf700 kernel. Does it still reboot? Did you update to the jelly bean bootloader from asus first?

I believe I'm using the 1.5... The one below the highest. almost too many options but fsync enabled. Yes I did update bootloader and I will have to reflash later not at the tablet at the moment.
Does disabling Fsync really speed things up? What is the likely hood of things going wrong?
My benchmarks where off the charts! In the 7000's using Quandrant and like 20 seconds using sql light. Also, I noticed transferring files from the memory card to the tablet was much faster.
Even though benchmarks are nice, it's real world performance that counts. The whole reason I unlocked and flashed was because I was tired of waiting 3 to 5 seconds for the apps to start loading when I selected then. Now they start so much faster. Not as fast as my razr hd maxx, but one can dream.

Has anyone noticed if the lag/skipping when playing mp3's from either the sd card or internal memory still occurs after all the tweaks in this rom? Speaking for me, that is my biggest complaint with my device. I can deal with the few extra seconds to open an app but can't stand to hear music skip every 15-30 seconds.

Never had this, even with the stock ROM. This is not normal, check for CPU-intensive or I/O-intensive background processes.

It would also be good to know which music player. I definitely don't have this problem. But what are you doing at the same time as listening to music?

I'd recommend starting off with the stock kernel. It could be that your TF700 can't handle the overclocking. I would also definitely keep fsync enable until you solve the random reboots, otherwise you could end up with some nasty corruption. Personally, other than benchmarks, I didn't notice a difference with fsync enabled or disabled. Even though my TF700 is able to handle overclocking, I'm now back to using stock kernel and the TF700 still performs extremely well with CleanROM 3.0.4. This may change once Clemsyn re-compiles his kernels with the latest Asus sources, but for now, I'd stick with the stock kernel.
Please let us know your results if you do try this.

hmm I'm not doing anything other than listening to the music. I have it hooked up to computer speakers when I exercise at home and work with headphones. I thought this was a common thing and someone mentioned it was caused by moments of lag. I use poweramp as the music player but also experienced it during playback using the amazon music player. I couldn't figure how to tell which folder had my music files in the google music player. It was loading everything like ring tones so I stopped using it.
I went and cleared up the media cache so the system reloads everything. I searched a previous thread and saw that suggested for someone having issues getting their pc to see the files when it was connected. Figured why not try it since I'm having a problem with media files. Rebooted and waited 10min before launching music again. Weird but it seems to have improved. There are still a few moments of lag that I'm noticing but nothing like before. I'm going to keep playing music in the background and see if it gets worse or goes away. Think I will just take the plunge with a unlock and try cleanROM if it doesn't go away entirely.
Thanks
-balanced power mode, no other apps running
-poweramp or amazon player (I will try google music app also)

Hang on you are not using CleanROM or CleanROM Inheritance? Why have you posted your issues in this thread then? No wonder we are confused about your issues
Yes the stock Asus rom has many i/o problems. You can solve most of them by installing a custom rom.
I was simply asking if anyone had experienced the issue using a CleanRom install before going through the process. Not trying to troubleshoot or solve it. With many things the rom fixes no one might have realized this being corrected. I will be unlocking and installing the rom soon. I apologize for asking the question and wasn't trying to highjack the original post. Mods feel free to delete my posts.

Omni Rom vs EOS which one is more "complete"

I currently have the OmniRom 4.4.4 insalled on my Xoom Wingray device. I poked around and saw the EOS Rom. I'm really torn if I want to go and re-wipe and rebuild my device on the EOS rom. What's the pros and cons of each rom based on opinions of the users running each one. Please no flames or fanboys, just honest things you like about your particular Rom.

This whole section seems to be lacking people who are willing to or have experience with each releases. But what are your thoughts on Omnirom? Why did you choose that over CM 11 and now looking at EOS. Trying to get as much info as possible before i consider flashing this old tablet and squeezing more life out of it
I chose the Omnirom because it was the first I heard about. I wanted android 4.4.2 and it seemed all google searches pointed to Omni. Now after running it for a week or two I deal with bugs that I don't want to fight with forever. Volume control doesn't work, random chrome crashes and now tablet reboots. I tried to reach teamomni but no luck. And EOS has built and published nightlies more recently than omni. I know I'm pushing this tab!et beyond its years. I figure this is the end of the road for this device, so I want to squeeze every ounce out of it. I can't thank both teams enough for their work. It's more than I would be capable of ever doing.

This is what I'm doing as well. Hadn't used the Xoom in forever but figured I'd try to squeeze more life out of it at this point until Nexus 8 or 9 (whichever it's called) comes out. I was running Omni and kept getting "bug reports", so I've switched to EOS due to the fact that they are more actively publishing updates to the ROM.
Only been on EOS for a day or so, but so far so good. With No-frills CPU control installed the Xoom seems to be running fine with no bugs to report. Settings in no-frills:
CPU Max: 1.504 GHz
Min: 456 MHz
Gov: ondemand
i/o scheduler: row
I just want to restate that I value the time and effort of ALL of these developers who graciously give up hours of labor to do this work. I would hope no one is offended by any of my previous statements of issues.
Omni vs TeamEOS
At first I've installed Omni. I was very happy with it. But after some time I've got performance problems. Also Chrome was freezing many times while browsing around.
So I decided to switch to TeamEOS. I was a fan from EOS since the early days. They kept my Xoom alive. But unfortunenatly I got the same problems on TeamEOS with Chrome. It kept freezing.
Read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738705 if you have the same problem.
At last I am also happy with TeamEOS and it's difficult to say which ROM is better. There are some differences in the preferences and Omni ROM seems to be a bit ahead but at last I'm ok with was TeamEOS offers.

The chrome issue boils down to a tegra video driver. It's closed source and has not been updated since the last official release which I believe was 4.1.2
This issue effects many things video related some of it you may see most of it you'll never notice. Since its a closed source driver it's likely to be and issue we will just have to deal with

I have switched to the Team EOS rom and have been happy with it, I have had the dreaded Sleep of Death bug that many users of the EOS rom have described and I do see the same Chrome crashes that I did on Omni. Now I've switched to Firefox and I don't have the issues.
Oddly I had none of these chrome issues on stock, and the only reason I upgraded from stock was to get Chromecast screen casting working from my tablet so I could use some of my apps on my TV.
Live and learn I suppose.
After some days of using TeamEOS... The battery usage seems to be much more better!
On the other side TeamEOS freezes from time to time. Only a reset helps.

Are you able to cast screen with chromecast ?
I have de Omni 4.4.4 on my xoom and the cast screen do not work, even with mirror enabler app.
Xoom won't be able to, doesn't matter which Rom, it's hardware level, even if I add all the required files to the make file and enable it as soon as you try it reboots. It's the same issue with screenrecord

I've used each of the Kit Kat builds and I finally settled on TeamEOS. This ROM had the most updates and continued to have development after nightlies stopped for Omni and CM. I believe each of these ROM's are really great and each have given new life to our tired Xoom's. The only way you can really tell which ROM is best is to try them and see which you like the most. Hopefully, someday we'll be asking the same questions about which Lollipop version is best, or that may just be wishful thinking. TeamEOS is baked already OC'd to 1400 and you can tweak it higher if you want (I use 1600). I've downloaded Trickster MOD from Google Play and I use it to control governor and other settings. As far any SOD's, I believe you can really minimize the concern if you use Trickster MOD and adjust your CPU min to at least 312 or higher. I had an occasional problem with Chrome so I switched to Chrome Beta and it seems to cause less problems. Some folks will have problems while others seem to get by OK. The stock browser is still pretty decent and gives good performance. I also have the Dolphin Browser but don't tend to use it very much.
