on downgrading or rooting rc30??? i would just like to kno...
thnx...ciao
Long story short, when there is a result, it will be all over. I would go so far to say as even if there is a small hurdle overcome... it will be the top thread on every Android forum.
Very true. I got screwed with a RC30 phone too, so I have to wait as well. I'm sure with time, someone will find a way. Of course if you don't like waiting, you can always buy a dev phone.
Or better yet get a replacement phone. I had a bum trackball on my old one, got my replacement and it came with rc29 on it. I'm now running rc30 rooted.
I'm past T-Mobile's grace period. Is it possible to get a replacement? My keys are all bashed in.
What was the cause of it, dropped it? If you dropped it then probably no chance. You can always call and ask them if there is anything they can do, its worth a shot! I had my old one since the g1 first came out and no problems returning it for me.

well yes there is a warranty, but if the keys are smashed in (probably physical damage) that warranty would be voided....
i know HTC has a 1year warranty if you look in your manual, and my problem is that my camera button isnt working at all and i do so want rc28 back as well,
BUT i got my g1 off ebay and i dont have a receipt so i dont know if they will take it any thoughts maybe someone who payed in cash could scan me a receipt,?

I called them (HTC, T-Mobile said they couldn't help because I didn't have my original contract with them ) and they said they were going to "repair" my "problem."
So a repair won't do, a replacement is the only option for us.

well if you bought it off ebay, t-mobile has no obligation to replace it for you. that is a service for T-Mobile customers. you would need to speak to HTC directly.

HTC has an obligation to repair/replace the device under the 1 year warranty regardless of whether you bought the phone on or off contract. Problem is, you cant submit a claim directly through HTC, only T-Mobile.
Well I switched from an iPhone 4 to the Nexus S (Nexus S is better) but I used a micro-sim adaptor but when I took it out one day it took a pin with it. I called Samsung and they said they don't do repairs like that so where in Canada can I get this repaired? I would love any advice. Thanks!
- Ryan
Same crap happened to me. But I guess I got a little lucky cuz only half of the pin broke off, the other half I just bent up so it would touch the sim when it was put in. Worked for me. Idk if yours came off completely or partially like mine did

Well one of the pins is shorter and one is completely missing so I guess I was not as lucky as you haha. Do you think I could take it to somewhere like Best Buy and just pay to repair it? Or will I have to go to a speciality cell phone repair place?

The person on the phone said as long as it's not physical damage they can fix it for free... which is ridiculous if you ask me because most people on this forum could fix any non-physical damage on the Nexus.
They told me to go to Rogers for some reason to get it repaired even though I said I got the phone as a gift and it was not from Rogers. I guess I'll try calling them again to see if I can get anyone more helpful.

Well after a long time of playing with it I manage to get the phone to read my sim by putting strips of tin foil on the contacts on the sim card. Disappoints me that I have to do this though and now the phone has no resale value.
I just got mine spoiled after returning from a holiday I've tried putting the copper thing back in place and slotting it back but it doesn't work. Now i have to wait till tomorrow to call Samsung support in hope that they will fix it if i pay money because my device has no warranty because it is from Australia and i'm using it in Singapore. Will they accept it to fix it if i pay for the repair?
And can anyone who used aluminium foil or anything to make it work post photos or videos on how to do it? I have no experience in soldering and stuff (15 years old) and i dont know how much foil to put there. Please help me!

I had similar problem with my Nexus S. I just went to Carphonewarehouse and told them that my sim is not being registering. They have fixed it for free but it took nearly 3 week.
Sent mine to samsung on monday 21st. he said 1-3 days so tomorrow will be the 3rd day which is the 24th. Hope i receive the call to collect it tomorrow. I miss my nexus

Your post is kind of contradictory. You say they wont fix it for free. That suggests that YES they will fix it, but not for free. Which makes total sense, since you physically broke the phone yourself. That's not covered under warranty.
But then you go on to say they told you to talk to Rogers. Your post is very confusing.
Rogers is a carrier. If you have some sort of damage plan or replacement coverage they may help you. Otherwise, at best, they're just going to send it Samsung in the first place. More likely, they won't touch it.
Your options are to try to repair it yourself, try a local shop, or try Samsung again. I seriously doubt that they wouldn't repair it, for $$$.
Or get a 3rd party warranty. Although, that would be pretty unethical and possibly illegal, filing a claim for damage that occurred before you signed up for the plan.

How do I get a refund on my R? Should i just barge in and say, I don't want this phone anymore with all the problems. Gimme my money back!! Btw, I will buy a Sensation or a used S2 with that money. Just tell me am i eligible for the refund? I bought my phone in Dec'11
So you used it for cca half a year and now gonna claim for refund?
Sounds...
Well, I am facing quite a lot of problems. It crashes once everyday, The other day I was giving my exam( was copying answers from my phone xD) and BOOM it crashed..RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES! I also face headphone jack issues, screen issues and Phone heating/battery issues. And i have a ****ty service centre in my area.. Real bad reviews.
So once i give it to get serviced it will take a while to come back.
P.S - What is the time period to get a refund?

To tell you in simple words you won't get a complete refund after using it for like 5 months.
At the most you can request the service center guys to put in a brand new motherboard & be happy if they do that.
I will take it to the service centre tommorow and revert back
And one more thing before I take it to the service centre. I did not fill the warranty card that came with the phone
I just have the bill.
Did you guys fill the warranty card and submit it to your service centre?

I have one insane idea, brick ur phone that way that no one can fix it, not even ssc guys and than claim replcement either they will refund or will give u new sgr which is not possible as sgr has been discontinued.
(Sorry just joking, dnt even think of doing this)
U can sell ur phone if u get great deal they wont give u refund, only will repair or replace parts.

One way of getting a refund is screwing up ur motherboard (dont ask me how, **** happens!) and hoping that the SSC doesnt have any stock. I got my SGR's MB replaced once already and it got screwed again, so I've given it back and they said they hv to replace the motherboard again.
Although Galaxy R is a fantastic device in itself, one part of me hopes that they will gimme refund saying MB is outta stock. And this is mainly due to the step motherly treatment meted out to it by Samsung and relative lack of dev support compared to HTC and other Samsung flagship devices.
I'll know in a couple of days. And maybe u can use this trick.
P.S. My SGR's motherboard got screwed on it own, I did not do it for the refund

Hi if you don't mind which country are you from ? Are you from India ?
If not then it seems that you don't have any service centers in your country ? Why don't you take it to one ?
It won't help by posting in every thread that your handset has SOD.
My beloved Galaxy R suffered its first casualty last night and I think its a big one.I kept it for charging overnight while it was switched on from 2.30pm to 7 am.In the morning I noticed the phone was in 'deep sleep' mode.I tried force restarting the phone and removing the battery and replacing it just didnt budge.I then skipped work took it to the service centre in Dadar,Mumbai where they were clueless about the model itself let alone the problem. They couldnt diagnose the problem for 20 mins and asked me to carry on and call them in the afternoon. The afternoon call was fruitless and they told me that it would take a couple of days to repair it. Although I have serious doubts about whether my phone would be repaired.
Fingers crossed eitherways, but I am not going down without adequate compensation if the phone cannot be repaired

"rich mofos"? No one is judging, I am just stating a fact, the Samsung Intercept is probably the worst smartphone on the market. Save your $10 and find something else. I doubt it is fixable.

If so, do you have any idea how much it will cost? The phone was rooted so I'm fairly certain it's not covered by any warranty.
before you do anything of that nature, what is going on, please explain what happened in as much detail as possible, screenshots would be very helpful. i have"bricked" my infuse countless times, and i've still got it running and working great right now, never had to pay for anyone to fix it or anything, as far as i can tell the infuse is pretty much unbrickable.. so if you would like i would like to try and help you out so you may not have to pay to fix something that may not be broke

Just wanted to update everyone here. I was very honest and upfront with the woman I started my trouble ticket with and told her right from the start that I had rooted my phone and caused my own problems. Well I got an email today from Samsung stating that my phone had been re-flashed and was being shipped back to me today by UPS. All I paid for this service was $2.46 for a box and shipping materials at my local UPS outlet. There was no charge for re-flash or shipping! I will always buy Samsung!!!!! :good:
Now to decide what to do since I now have two working Samsung phones on Straight Talk. LOL! Should I reactivate the infuse with it's currently inactive Straight Talk sim card or just use it for my Google Voice phone number and keep my new phone for network calls...
thats great, really surprised samsung didnt make you pay...
I'm surprised also... quite a deal.
How long from when you sent it out until when you got it back? (just curious).

I haven't actually gotten it back yet. I shipped it out on Monday, They got it on Wednesday and Thursday I got the email saying it was shipped back in my direction. I expect it by Saturday at this rate! Also, I called Straight Talk and apparently I can reactivate my Straight Talk SIM card in it with no extra charge since activated a replacement phone before sending it off and I pay for the unlimited plan. All I'll need is a new number for it since the replacement phone has my existing number and I'll have two working Samsung phones for the price of one phone plan. (I still think the Straight Talk representative was full of caca in that regards. LOL! I'll believe it when I see it!) :silly: Life can NOT be that good or I've just entered the Twilight Zone!

Never said I wasn't willing to try! I said I didn't feel up to the challenge. There's a big difference there. I don't however have any plans to re-root it for now. Glad I could help! :silly: And really upfront honesty when talking to the person who's creating your trouble ticket with humility and self effacing deprecation is recommended! I was a twat for breaking my warranty and I admitted it and they fixed it. Even if I had had to pay a little for the repairs, it would have been worth it! I have my better camera (With an actual Flash) and GPS device back now! FYI - In case anyone is wondering about the Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy Centura camera, it is only 3 Mega Pixels and has no flash!
