My tab seems to literally only want to do one thing at a time pretty much. For it being a quad core it seems a bit ridiculous for it to freeze up and start throwing the wait or close crap anytime an app or the market is downloading something. Another thing is with the dock, I've noticed it seems that the touch pad is really slow and laggy after waking the tab from sleep. It is fine again after a reboot but once it goes to sleep you wake it up and the problem is back, what's strange is its only slow while on the home screen inside apps it works as normal. Another thing with the dock is it appears that it stops charging the tab after the screen is turned off as in the light on the power button goes out but turns back on and continues to charge if you wake it back up. I do not have it unlocked but it is rooted and EZoverclock is installed running it at 1ghz,1.3ghz and 1.5ghz. Still has the stock rom .29. Also it was doing these things before root and OC. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing these symptoms. Thanks for reading.

I never had these problems... It may be the method you rooted it. Try sparkyroot.. I remeber my motorola defy was completely unusable after rooting with an app.
I find my Desire S better capable of downloading webpages in the background while browsing another than the TF300T does.
My TF300T is still unrooted.
I just believe that the quadcore is not put to good use (read: the software is not optimised for it). It feels almost like that hyperthreading hype from Intel many years ago. That design was a complete bust, but they only would admit that when the real multi core processors arrived.
I have the same problem. Just have to do one thing or it is laggy. Just shame for quade to be that slow! I also dont have root.
Same problem with my TF300T
When I am downloading something in the background and try opening another app or browse something, I end up with the Wait messages and my tab almost freezes. I was really surprised that a quad core tablet has such poor performance.
My Samsung Galaxy S2 does a better job of downloading stuff in the background.

Yeah my GS2 from att screams I love my phone. What's weird is I actually had the prime but had to return it due to too many defects but it never had any problems multitasking at all. You could have ten downloads running while playing a game without any lag it was a huge difference. I guess ASUS like many other companies have just not got the quality products they used too. Its to bad really. These tablets had a lot of potential. Maybe I should have gotten the Toshiba excite with the tegra instead its only $50 difference. Or perhaps this tab will get fixed in the future? Maybe we should bug the hell out of them until they fix it this is such BS to be misled like this. A quadcore should perform as such and be able to "MULTI" task with its "MULTI" Core CPU.

I did use the sparkyroot method and as my op says it has been like this since taken out of the box before it was rooted. I actually rooted it to remove some of the bloatware and OC it to see if it could perform better. My HP Touchpad with Cyanogen performed better than this paper weight.
The reason for the lag when downloading is because the tegra 3 only had single channel memory. This means all the apps being downloaded fill up the channel even though there are 4 cores. Its really a shame cuz the iPad has quad channel memory and most other chips have dual channel memory. Plus having more cores means more memory consumption.

I'm having the same problem. I had 21 apps waiting to be updated and the table was completely useless during this period. My a500 performed much better and I sold it to get this device. Looking for an optimized stock rom, but it looks like I will be returning this to amazon. I expected so much more from the tegra 3. Will wait on a better device.

What are your download speeds?
I connected my tab today to a 25mbs down/up wifi, and I opened MC3 to download the game content. I noticed that I would freeze the download from time to time, sometimes holding there for about 10 secs. I think the main problem here is the speed at which the tablet can write on disk, I have never had any problems with download freezes or lags before on my lousy 3mbs connection at home.
The files were downloading so fast that the tab didn't have time to correctly write them and had to pause the download. This is just a hypothesis, I didn't get the chance to try again. Anyone that has access to a high speed internet connection and a slow speed connection could try this and verify it. Maybe download a torrent and throttle down your down speed to see if you still get the same lags and freezes as you would on your normal speed.
Here's a picture of a cf bench I did on my tab you can see that the write speed is at 511, it seems slow ppl using the prime have reported 800+ speeds

I use to download youtube videos with Tubemate. When there were multiple downloads, my tab slowed down like anything. I just popped in a 32gb card and chaged the download folder to sd card. Now, with 5 downloads also, no problem with slowing down. The internal memory's RW speed seems to be less i think.
So I've seen a lot of people say their tablet is great, awesome,... but others complain about I/O issues, lags,... Looks like a half of the people in this forum not satisfied with it.
Please help me make my decision before buying by voting and explaining why you're satisfied or not. Thanks
Great idea! I'll vote once mine arrives. Over in the Prime section, there was a poll pretty similar that ended up showing that the vast majority were happy with their device, even though the comments indicated it should have been otherwise.
I'm thinking that the reason so many appear to have issues is because those with problems are more likely to say something than those without. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
I'm happy. ever since i installed all of my apps, i haven't experienced any lag issues. also, i downloaded a torrent and had no problems with that either. initially, my 64gb card could not be recognized, but after doing some formatting, its working fine now. add this to the extra room for storage and a great dock, and I'm pretty darn happy. i doubt i will turn on my xoom again, unless it gets jelly bean first.

The thing I hate most is the proprietary charger. Why on earth would they not use mini-USB? Is Asus cheap enough to want extra money from people buying their cables?
The tablet rebooted for no reason a couple of times. And the stock browser is very laggy.

It's because the USB port doubles as the dock connector.
Happy with mine. A little disappointed with the wifi netflix and bluetooth to Jambox. Slows down the download and voice is delayed. Even playing games with Jambox is a delay. But I guess I can use my earphones. My prime had the same issue. Everything else is good. Wifi is excellent. GPS is excellent. Bluetooth is very Strong. But like I said it effects the download speed when both wifi and bluetooth are both on. I don't know why.

I've been sitting here trying the various browsers. boat is smooth, but sometime the screen disappears. which makes me close it out and go back in. chrome is OK. but when scrolling down pages with images, it doesn't render fast enough. And no flash. the stock is slow and the rendering is an issue again. Opera WAS great, but its not as fast as the others. Firefox didn't work for me at all, the nightlies build. which brings me to Dolphin. no rendering issues. i can go to a page with 50 images on it, and scrolling thru them is smooth. its fast. and i love the gestures. so if you don't like the stock browser, try dolphin HD.

Dolphin is not bad, but it gas no quick links. Maxthon has it all, just like it's desktop version.

Hmmm I wonder if there's some software that can alleviate your problem? Maybe something to offset the audio from the video so it plays back in sync?
There should be a yes-ish option
I think at times, my TF700 does get a little laggy / slow. This is with the .26 firmware, which did fix a bit of the prior IO issues, but the tablet itself still feels laggy / bogged down sometimes when scrolling through or using the mouse.
I am overall very happy with mine. Yes it has a few bugs to work out, but nothing that is breaking the device. I have slight light bleeding in a couple spots, but there again not enough to bother me. If you want a 10 inch tablet right this second, this is hands down the best choice!

Im happy with the tablet and the response time we get from Asus regarding updates.
I'd have to say I"m very satisfied with it. The screen is gorgeous, the device is fast, the build quality is top notch (although some others have had issues), and the dock adds a lot of functionality.
Its not perfect though. The web browsing is pretty crap unless you use Dolphin, which is really good but I myself am a little irked having to use it due to that privacy invasion scandle it was involved with a while back. And the top battery life you get with actual use (by that I dont mean videos, since they're ran entirely on the power saver 5th core) is about 6 hours, pretty shy of the advertised 9.5 hours.
I dont mean to sound like a complainer here, it really is a great tablet and its only going to get better with updates. I'd recommend it to anybody without any hesitation.

I think that some answers might change with the new update (.26). I was "ok" with the Infinity up until the update and now I'm very happy. The lag and sluggish behavior is pretty much gone which changes my feelings on it.

I know what you mean with the Wifi/BT. I experienced it on my Prime and know the problem is real. I also know not every tablet will have it. I've exchanged my Prime for another one because of this problem. My second one worked perfectly with wifi/bt. My Tf700 does not experience this issue either. I am not doubting you and know the feeling of having spent all this money and it not work with wireless speakers and headsets.
If you are within your return period then jump on it. Return it and take your chances with a new tablet if this issue is really going to get to you. Sending it in for RMA could be useless and more problematic. When things got real rough with the Prime there were a good number that came back with the same problem or damaged at the repair facility.
As to the poll, I'm really pleased with my tablet. I really like the new power/volume buttons and sdcard slot. Seems minor but that click when pressing down makes it feel like a better built product. Got some light bleed but that is the only issue I have.
Unfortunately, I had to vote no since there wasn't a "Its alright" option
Hardware-wise, this thing is a beast. No real complaints at all.

I bought this tablet to be a bigger badder version of why I use my phone - namely watch movies, surf the web, and distract my kid with games.
Watching movies has been hit or miss. All movies look fantastic but playback has been an issue. Every player I've tried (MXPlayer, VPlayer, Dice, Mobo, etc) crash every few minutes when using software decoding. Looking at their respective forums and XDA, it seems to be linked to T3 so I have to wait for a fix. I know I could re-encode everything so I can use the hardware decoder but who has time to do that?
Surfing has been OK but android browsers haven't been all that great:
Chrome: no flash and wont let me download anything. I just get a Download Unsuccessful message.
Stock was just painful.
Opera was OK. It was the only browser that would let me select the microSD card as the download directory. Unfortunately, after downloading, everything ended up in the INternal download directory no matter what path I told it to download to.
Dolphin HD has been fine but I can't seem to download anything 2GB or above. Otherwise, it would be the clear winner for me.
FF is getting on my nerves with that left hand navigation strip, no ability to clear Top Sites, or very limited settings and add-ons. I'm keeping it though since its been the only browser that allows me to download 2GB+ files.
Can't say anything bad about game play. I haven't done much of that myself but my kid has a blast!

Not sure it was there when I got my 32Gb Note 10.1 or not. I updated it to the latest software version early on. I don't have that many apps installed on it and only a couple of widgets on the desktop. The scroll stutters at times when I start scrolling: it starts off fine, then stutters for a short time, almost like a single hick up, and then continues just fine. It's doesn't happen 100% of the time but is more consistent as of late. I observed it going from screen to screen and in the main browsers scrolling through the page. I restarted the tab, closed running apps/services, which made no difference.
Has anyone noticed anything similar to that? Does that sound like a normal behavior? Have had a few Android phones before but this is my 1st Android tab so not sure what level of performance I should expect. Thanks!
Have not experienced any stuttering. The only time I have noticed the SGN10.1 stuttering is when drawing shapes in s.note. then it can get a little bogged down.

Try going to settings, developer, and under window and transition animations. Try setting to.5 or zero.
That should fix it.
I was using HD Widgets and had a 8x1 clock/weather widget on my first home page. I was playing with the stock clock/weather widget and by removing the HD Widget's clock the stuttering improved a lot. I'm still using it for some toggles and that seems fine. If anyone is using HD Widgets you can remove the widgets you're not actively using and that seems to speed things up too.
i have a 3 day old 16gb wifi gnote. my experience with stuttering has been unmistakable in 2 places: general system animations (moving between screens or opening settings for example) and a laggy stock browser.
when i swipe home screens, i get similar stutters as the OP. so i went ahead and cleaned up all the stock (bloatware) widgets... hardly a solution but i hope it isnt a problem when i do install useful widgets soon.. someone suggested reducing animations to 0.5x or 0. well thats really sad for a higher end tablet i think. similar stuttering scrolls in gmail and play store.
with the browser, i usually get stutters when scrolling a fairly heavy page. the most annoying thing is that if there are many images on a page, the browser blanks them out when scrolling and then redraws them at the end of scrolling! so i simply installed chrome instead... and thats working better
i also tried this game called wind up knight just to see some 3d action... there too the stutter was quite obvious.
im not blown away by the quad core awesomeness out-of-the-box i must say. i think my 2 year old HTC HD2 (1ghz single core) is generally faster at running ics. i hope custom roms are able to better harness the hardware...
forgot to mention that i am running the old UEALGB rom

So what exactly does this do?
I am on my second g note. Got rid of the 16 GBP for the 32. The only thing I have done on both was got rid of the widgets it came in stalled with and adj the settings and it flies like butter.
Someone else mentioned the power saver mode. Check that it is not on.

No power savings mode. I suspect some of you just not noticing it. I do have an eye for those kind of things though.
i didnt have my power saving mode on... the problem became extremely irritating with that feature on...
however i did restart my tablet and that did solve almost all my worries! i too now have a "buttery smooth" tablet before restart, my ram usage was around 1.4gb and i suspect around 70+ active apps in memory. after restart, my ram usage was 0.4gb and all the lags and stutters went away! so one possible solution could be for you to go to task manager and clean out active apps from memory. then check if there is any stutter in general usage. hope this helps!
ps: i did clean out all my home screen bloat widgets. so i really cant say how smoothly they will scroll after cleaning out the ram.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply anything. I do appreciate all the help and feedback from all xda members.
I was just basically reflecting on my nature and the fact that I do tend to concentrate on details sometimes. So, my point was that there may or may not be lag there and perhaps I'm just "seeing" things. I have a good eye for these things in general, so assuming lag or more like stutter is there, the next question is whether that's something particular to my tab or others are seeing it too. If later is the case than it could be software and/or hardware issue. I thought the specs this thing packing it should have no problems scrolling silky smooth. Don't wanna jump to any conclusions just yet though...
Tried reducing animation scale but it made little difference. Wondering, just for comparison, has anyone seen Note 10.1 scrolling videos posted out there?

I agree it does stutter slightly. If you are reading an article and are scrolling down as you read, its not smooth. Hopefully they will fix it.

Actually, now that you mention it...
When i first received the tablet, i noticed the lag swiping from screen to screen. I shut it off after about 15 minutes, to charge the battery faster when the unit is off. After rebooting, i noticed it seemed to go much faster....
Also, after installing the update (which may or may not be available anymore) my overall smoothness went up about 100%, something i noticed immediately.
Doesn't stutter for me anymore, unless i have power saver mode on and really pushing it. Asphalt 7 (looks somewhat hi-tech 3d graphics, maybe not) runs exceptionally well, so i am not sure i'm getting the lag anymore. Maybe this is what some of the reviewers saw at first, while doing their first 15 minute review?
I can't complain anymore because it seems to be fine on mine, with the exception of this XDA app

Trying to get a sense if this is a widespread issue with almost every GNote or with just a small number of tabs. If first is the case then it can probably/likely be addressed via some software update. But if it's a later case then exchange is in order. I have no way of reliably validating it so I'll probably gonna go for an exchange early next week.

Not to hijack my one thread... but I have a new problem develop last night: some parts of the screen, left side in particular, in the standard browser weren't responding to touch/clicks. Tried clearing out all apps, restarting the browser, etc. Didn't help much. Seems to be better. Not sure what's going on.
The Prime had I/O issues and so did the TF300 (which I briefly owned). I read the Nexus 7 does as well. Every time I'm downloading torrents or even an app from the Play Store, the system would just be non-responsive. Or my browser would just give me errors saying App is Not Responding. Do you guys experience this on the Tf700? Is this an ICS problem or does it happen on JB as well?

Had very very few ANR's before JB..
Now they are nonexistent! Buttery smooth like Google promised! :good::good:
This seems to be more of an ICS problem. I have the TF300T, and when I upgraded to JB, a LOT of the unresponsiveness was taken care of. I am not saying that the TF300 performs just as well as the TF700, but JB makes a dramatical difference.
To be honest its pretty bad on my end. If i download a file (even at 250kb/sec) it gets so sluggy its not even usable. This is the only problem i have, too bad its a big one.
I do not use android devices to download torrents unless I have no intentions to use them soon. Apparently, it seems that Android does not handle large files nearly as well as PCs and Macs. I have an Of Evo, and the phone would not turn back on Irvine turn the screen off when I begin to download a torrent. I thought that this tablet would change the game completely, but it did not. Still a great device, but I am learning its limits slowly. (Don't be concerned., because it is not many. I just have an eye for some off these little things.)

to be honest, i was pretty pissed off at the ICS version of this tablet. there were heaps of glowing reviews out there, but the truth was here on XDA, only i found out too late. i was getting ANRs, had a white-screen freeze/reboot, the webbrowsing in Chrome and stock were BRUTAL. was even getting occasional stutters playing music from the microSD card. and come on, opening and closing the app drawer should not be occasion for lag! luckily, i avoided the build quality issues that some were having, but i really thought this tablet was not ready for primetime.
and then the JB update happened.
again, to be honest, i wasn't expecting much. but for me, it's been a revelation -- with JB, the TF700 is what it should have been to begin with. smmmoooooth. fast. responsive. no funny business.
hoping that future minor updates will only improve it.
If you are downloading lots of torrents, you need a different tablet than the ASUS series, IMHO. After JB, it's a fantastic daily driver but the for I/O junkies the hardware will always have some limitation. For general streaming, apps, games, browsing, it is awesome but doing huge background downloads will always be suboptimal on this hardware. If that is your use model you want something else.
For downloading apps and updating stuff, JB seems to have improved things well enough that most basic users and lots of power users (including myself) are not going to bothered by it much if at all, but it will never be a screamer in the I/O dept.

Yes, I see that, and I can certainly agree. As I continue to learn more about different devices, I slowly filter out that device is ideal for which task. Unfortunately, not enough people see things my way, and expect one device to work as good as any other device in their home...but it doesn't work that way.

I/O itself is what is it. It is set by hardware, which benchmark shows. Infinity's IO is not as bad as some believe according to my research. Iconia A700, or other android tablet has similar scores on benchmark. So it is how current generation of Android tablet are generally designed. Some tablet though used better IO component such as Galaxy Note 10.1. But it does not have Full HD. When price of unit is similar, manufacture has to decide what to include and where to save.
As far as the user experience end, initially when I got TF700 the day of release in US. I had application not responding, almost complete froze while application is downloading from Playstore. These have changed (even before Jellybean).
1. ANR - Honestly, I rarely have this now. May be once or twice a week? But key here now is interrupt i.e. clicking home button will instantly interrupt and take me back to home screen. So no true freezing. I even got freeze application on iPad 2 or on Galaxy Note 10.1 at least once or twice a week. So in this regard, Infinity is now pretty much as good as it can get.
2. System Non-responsiveness while download - This had also been vastly improved. I did a little testing with internal network 1GB+ download in background, and launched Final Fantasy 3. No lag or delay. However, if I do the same with Horn it basically becomes non-playable. So depending on what you want to do, the issue may or may not be noticeable.
3. System lag while application install - This is still there. Though not to the point system complete froze, but stuttering and lag becomes noticeable. Though this is true even on my desktop sometimes, and I don't think iPad would even allow you to install application while you run other application. So I am ok.
So overall, I think what we attribute things to as IO issue is essentially resolved to the point it can be. If there is any option, Galaxy Note 10.1 may be only one it may perform better in this regard. So you have to list your priority as others say.
Yea just picked up a Note 10.1 and the performance is night and day versus the Prime that I had. It takes multi task to a whole new level and I mean really intense multi tasking such as downloading huge files and hardly a blip. Though the screen leaves something to be desired, its a good performance trade off.
Hey guys, I bought my A9 yesterday, it would be a great phone, but scrolling is laggy. It can even stutter for a bit in Settings, not even mentioning some websites and apps. And multitasking doesn't work at all sometimes. I just went to the phone's settings from a very simple website with no pictures for 10 seconds, and it reloaded. Sometimes it works better.
It must be the optimization right? I'm already running the latest firmware available for my phone, but it was released in, like February. Comparing to my previous SD800 phone, it opens up apps the same time etc, but these two bugs ruin the user experience for me, I don't think that the SoC is that much weaker. Is there a faster, previous firmware to use? I immediately updated after setting up the phone. And since I've read many feedbacks that said there aren't any lags, I thought something is wrong on my side.

Thanks, but is this tolerable with a high price phone like this? I mean, it shouldn't act this way. When I use the phone from idle, it opens up things pretty fast, without a lag. But when I'm using it as I should (not killing apps, etc), it goes a bit crazy, even the lock screen animation lags.
