Is anyone here actually happy with the TF101?

So after being active in the forums around when ICS was released then staying idle for a month or two, all I come back to is tons of threads with people asking how to downgrade. So my question is, does anyone actually enjoy this tablet? Does anyone open it up or power it on, on a daily basis and enjoy using it?
This is kind of a joke thread but sadly also kind of a serious thread. I personally love this tablet. I get one or two SOD's a day (On a bad day) but everything else is smooth and works well, especially for a year old tablet.

very happy. if xda didn't exist...i think i'd be all sorts of miserable...but since it does exist...found me a custom kernel (the "test" series by guevor) and done. most problems are gone.
i say most because the screen tearing happens every so often...but nothing i can't simply ignore.

Well, this is no joke. I have two 101s, B50 and B70, both 32g and both rooted after the .21 update. Very minor issues like apps need to be re-installed, but none of the major problems associated with custom kernels and roms. Excellent multimedia device, USB adapter connects to external storage including hds, wifi gps and bt are functioning better than the Prime, that's for sure. As compared to the TF300, the only difference is a faster SOC but then again there's no boatload of games that should have been released with the Prime so majority of the apps out there were designed for the Tegra 2.
I will be keeping my 101s for quite a while until the 700 and I expect a major leap in performance and looks, USB 3.0 for one and e-sata without the dock!

I'm happy for the most part. I use my TF101 for several hours each day, and don't have any of the major issues with ICS that some others do. It has never, ever randomly rebooted while I was using it, or locked up, etc. It would sometimes reboot itself during sleep, but this wasn't a major issue for me. It hasn't even done that since the latest update, but I turn it off more often now instead of putting it to sleep. I don't have the dock, so none of those issues apply to mine either.

I am happy with ICS. I was pretty disappointed with the release state of the transformer. MKV playback, battery/dock problems, Android HC software not that great, and all kinds of other little problems. However between ICS upgrade and Asus support, I'm 97% satisfied with my tablet, however HD video playback, web browsing, word processing, and a few other small things could use some work.
Sadly I can't/won't use custom roms as every one I've tried either has minor stability problems or app incompatibility problems. So rooted stock with a custom kernel for me it is.
I'll hold on to the tf101 until Asus releases something with a screen that can rival the Ipad 3. The prime and 700 aren't a large enough increase in specs to warrant an upgrade at full cost.

Ran stock for quite awhile and just downgraded today so that I could root, install CWM, and put on a ROM. Trying Android Revolution right now. I've been very impressed with this tablet. My friends who have iPads are always asking to play with my tablet.

I'm pretty happy- I've gotten a few reboots, but they are relatively infrequent. I am really not a power user, so my tablet isn't on for 8 hours a day.
What I have really enjoyed is the unlocked bootloader and the frequent updates that ASUS puts out- I've really learned a lot about modding and deodexing roms, and generally, how Android is put together. In that sense, it has been a fun device.

in the last month and a half Ive gone through 3 tablets
at first I went cheap with a viewsonic Gtablet that had a screen issue I fixed.
Loved all the ports & price. didnt like the screen.
then i came across a great deal on a galaxy tab 10.1. which I loved. Great screen, super light and an amazing speaker.
for the last week and a half Ive had my 32GB TF101 B70. and as of Friday sold the other tablets.
I got a good deal with keyboard dock and love it so far, though I wish the screen and speakers were as nice as the Samsung, especially the speakers. that little thing could fill a small room with sound.
I made the mistake of updating to the new fimrware on My B70 and ran into issues trying to downgrade but the previous firmware and current have been stable for me with heavy nightly use since I got it.
lots of streaming ect and splashtop HD is great with the touchpad & dock

Just remembered, the only random issue I seem to have is once in a while it seems there is a diagonal split with the screen showing some other image. its not common and goes away in a second or 2 though

I have no real issues with the Transformer or ICS as a whole. Wiping my device before updating to ICS fixed my deep sleep issue & battery drain issue. However I have been experiencing some problems with Opera since the update.

Well I guess talking about it jinxed me. left the room to get a drink, came back and was on the asus booting screen with the circle of dots stuck. had to hold the power button to reboot. never happened before, hope it doesn't become a habit

I use mine all day everyday. Its replaced my laptop as far as Surfing and socializing..I dont have the errors tho.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has had a near perfect experience with this great device.

People asking how to downgrade is a little more noticeable that people doing nothing and sticking with ASUS stock ICS. For me ICS is clearly better than Honeycomb and the odd reboot issue doesn't change that. I use my Transformer daily but still use my Macbook,PC and phone daily too so nothing has really been replaced.

Supremely happy with my TF made my laptop nearly obsolete . Little to no issues occasional S.O.D.'s but its nothing to deter me from using it. These tabs are so versatile I watch movies, play games, hook it up to my TV, get on that fancy inter net thingy, oh and it destroys the battery life compared to my laptop by 1 day lol

I love all three of my tablets, they all run damn near perfect, all rooted running revolver ics.
Honestly,I have read most of the issue/complaint threads and to me it seems like most of these threads are the same people discussing the same issues... Making it appear as though more people are having issues... This is just my observations... I know several people with transformers... None of them have issues, however I personally rooted and flashed custom roms for about half of them... The rest know what they are doing.
I have had my hands hand on dozens of tfs all ran ics fine... Some had bad flashes that need to be redone... All in all it's hard for me to believe that so many are having so many issues. Like with most consumer products, the happy people tend to be less vocal while the unhappy are not... This phenomenon definitely has an effect on the perception of the size of issues. Not to deny there is a potential issue, but so many including myself have managed to make our devices and others very stable.

I'm satisfied with mine. I bought it back in September as my own birthday present. In hindsight, I guess I could have waited for the Prime, but I had been on the fence about buying a tab for months and I didn't want to end up constantly waiting for something better to come out, all the while not enjoying having a tablet.
I didn't buy it for any specific reason. I just wanted something that I would keep around the house. Something to look something up real quick while watching tv. Or read something out in the yard. Or play a quick game. Etc. Just basica stuff you would want to do but not want to lug around a laptop for.
Stock it did everything I needed it to. I did root and overclock. After a while I began to get mad at the amount of apps that didn't work or didn't work right with honeycomb though.
I just flashed ICS the other night. Haven't had any serious issues and I think now the tablet finally performs as it should. Everything is much more fluid and polished and hopefully now there will be greater compatibility with apps. Some things still annoy me that are no fault of the tab...like the lack of availibility of apps like hbo go. It really grinds my gears. I mean really...who the hell still uses android 2.1?
But yes, overall I am very happy with it. Aside from doin what I originally wanted it to do, i've obtained some useful apps that can help me with my work when i'm at home. It's a device I would feel naked without at this point. It's really always with me.

had mine since release. currently on team EOS rom and it's significantly faster than stock ICS, most notably while browsing. i love being able to scroll down a big webpage at full speed and see no lag at all, which stock never came close to doing! aside from the black screen on rotation, i have had no problems.
it saddens me to see so many people having trouble. mine has never rebooted or anything like that, literally everything has worked perfectly. i feel like my transformer will last awhile, it's been a great laptop replacement thus far.
i just wish hulu plus worked on aosp ICS roms. is there a way?

Had mine for over a year already. Still running fine.

My tablet has only ever been off when I have been out for a weekend the rest of the time it is never turned off so it has probably gone without rest for a year all up
Very happy with my tf and it is used everyday in fact i had a accident recently and have had to take time off work so there has been a couple times i have used it all day non stop

I'm quite happy with my TF101 running stock ICS.
At first I had quite a lot of unexplained reboots but that seems to have stopped.
I use my TF101 daily for IM and web browsing which is exactly what I got it for.

Are you satisfied with the TF700?

So I've seen a lot of people say their tablet is great, awesome,... but others complain about I/O issues, lags,... Looks like a half of the people in this forum not satisfied with it.
Please help me make my decision before buying by voting and explaining why you're satisfied or not. Thanks

Great idea! I'll vote once mine arrives. Over in the Prime section, there was a poll pretty similar that ended up showing that the vast majority were happy with their device, even though the comments indicated it should have been otherwise.
I'm thinking that the reason so many appear to have issues is because those with problems are more likely to say something than those without. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

I'm happy. ever since i installed all of my apps, i haven't experienced any lag issues. also, i downloaded a torrent and had no problems with that either. initially, my 64gb card could not be recognized, but after doing some formatting, its working fine now. add this to the extra room for storage and a great dock, and I'm pretty darn happy. i doubt i will turn on my xoom again, unless it gets jelly bean first.

The thing I hate most is the proprietary charger. Why on earth would they not use mini-USB? Is Asus cheap enough to want extra money from people buying their cables?
The tablet rebooted for no reason a couple of times. And the stock browser is very laggy.

It's because the USB port doubles as the dock connector.

Happy with mine. A little disappointed with the wifi netflix and bluetooth to Jambox. Slows down the download and voice is delayed. Even playing games with Jambox is a delay. But I guess I can use my earphones. My prime had the same issue. Everything else is good. Wifi is excellent. GPS is excellent. Bluetooth is very Strong. But like I said it effects the download speed when both wifi and bluetooth are both on. I don't know why.

I've been sitting here trying the various browsers. boat is smooth, but sometime the screen disappears. which makes me close it out and go back in. chrome is OK. but when scrolling down pages with images, it doesn't render fast enough. And no flash. the stock is slow and the rendering is an issue again. Opera WAS great, but its not as fast as the others. Firefox didn't work for me at all, the nightlies build. which brings me to Dolphin. no rendering issues. i can go to a page with 50 images on it, and scrolling thru them is smooth. its fast. and i love the gestures. so if you don't like the stock browser, try dolphin HD.

Dolphin is not bad, but it gas no quick links. Maxthon has it all, just like it's desktop version.

Hmmm I wonder if there's some software that can alleviate your problem? Maybe something to offset the audio from the video so it plays back in sync?

There should be a yes-ish option

I think at times, my TF700 does get a little laggy / slow. This is with the .26 firmware, which did fix a bit of the prior IO issues, but the tablet itself still feels laggy / bogged down sometimes when scrolling through or using the mouse.

I am overall very happy with mine. Yes it has a few bugs to work out, but nothing that is breaking the device. I have slight light bleeding in a couple spots, but there again not enough to bother me. If you want a 10 inch tablet right this second, this is hands down the best choice!

Im happy with the tablet and the response time we get from Asus regarding updates.

I'd have to say I"m very satisfied with it. The screen is gorgeous, the device is fast, the build quality is top notch (although some others have had issues), and the dock adds a lot of functionality.
Its not perfect though. The web browsing is pretty crap unless you use Dolphin, which is really good but I myself am a little irked having to use it due to that privacy invasion scandle it was involved with a while back. And the top battery life you get with actual use (by that I dont mean videos, since they're ran entirely on the power saver 5th core) is about 6 hours, pretty shy of the advertised 9.5 hours.
I dont mean to sound like a complainer here, it really is a great tablet and its only going to get better with updates. I'd recommend it to anybody without any hesitation.

I think that some answers might change with the new update (.26). I was "ok" with the Infinity up until the update and now I'm very happy. The lag and sluggish behavior is pretty much gone which changes my feelings on it.

I know what you mean with the Wifi/BT. I experienced it on my Prime and know the problem is real. I also know not every tablet will have it. I've exchanged my Prime for another one because of this problem. My second one worked perfectly with wifi/bt. My Tf700 does not experience this issue either. I am not doubting you and know the feeling of having spent all this money and it not work with wireless speakers and headsets.
If you are within your return period then jump on it. Return it and take your chances with a new tablet if this issue is really going to get to you. Sending it in for RMA could be useless and more problematic. When things got real rough with the Prime there were a good number that came back with the same problem or damaged at the repair facility.
As to the poll, I'm really pleased with my tablet. I really like the new power/volume buttons and sdcard slot. Seems minor but that click when pressing down makes it feel like a better built product. Got some light bleed but that is the only issue I have.

Unfortunately, I had to vote no since there wasn't a "Its alright" option
Hardware-wise, this thing is a beast. No real complaints at all.
Software-wise, meh...
I bought this tablet to be a bigger badder version of why I use my phone - namely watch movies, surf the web, and distract my kid with games.
Watching movies has been hit or miss. All movies look fantastic but playback has been an issue. Every player I've tried (MXPlayer, VPlayer, Dice, Mobo, etc) crash every few minutes when using software decoding. Looking at their respective forums and XDA, it seems to be linked to T3 so I have to wait for a fix. I know I could re-encode everything so I can use the hardware decoder but who has time to do that?
Surfing has been OK but android browsers haven't been all that great:
Chrome: no flash and wont let me download anything. I just get a Download Unsuccessful message.
Stock was just painful.
Opera was OK. It was the only browser that would let me select the microSD card as the download directory. Unfortunately, after downloading, everything ended up in the INternal download directory no matter what path I told it to download to.
Dolphin HD has been fine but I can't seem to download anything 2GB or above. Otherwise, it would be the clear winner for me.
FF is getting on my nerves with that left hand navigation strip, no ability to clear Top Sites, or very limited settings and add-ons. I'm keeping it though since its been the only browser that allows me to download 2GB+ files.
Can't say anything bad about game play. I haven't done much of that myself but my kid has a blast!

I have a perfect Infinity TF700--I love it!

It was suggested that those with great Infinity TF700s who are happy with them post about how great their tablet is. I've been saying that mine (32GB Amethyst Grey with the TF700 AG Keyboard Dock) is a fantastic device and I wouldn't trade it for anything currently on the market.
My tab is flawless, hardware-wise: no loose screen, lifted edges, light bleed, dead pixels, scratches, etc. It is rooted, unlocked and has TWRP custom recovery and ZEUS v4 ICS stock-based custom rom, which makes it so fluid and deliciously fast. I'm using Browser2Ram, which seems to have improved browsing (which wasn't bad anyway). I really am not experiencing I/O issues (RL Benchmark shows 19 overall, but random writes is still slow) and antutu scores consistently over 14,000. Navigating the Netflix app sucks, but playback is a delight. The Infinity screen is so nice, it's hard to watch a video on anything else. I do have some issues with apps that are not yet optimised for the screen resolution, but that will come in time. The keyboard dock is just an integral part of my TF700. I can't do without it. I go all day with lots of screen-on time, browsing (much time on xda!) and I've never yet gone to bed without some charge remaining. Standby battery life is astonishing.
I installed Google Now and I keep forgetting that the Infinity is still on ICS. It is performing like a champ and is as good as my three other Jellybean devices. Oh, and I usually operate in powersave or balanced mode! The custom rom and various system tweaks are responsible for this improved performance. In my experience, custom roms/kernels will always trump stock. I understand why people are hesitant to unlock and lose their ASUS warranty, but I bought a 2 year Square Trade warranty with coverage for accidental damage, so I feel pretty good about my unlocked state. It's well worth it.
Well that's my happy story. My advice is: don't put up with bad hardware. Exchange it if there are any major issues or minor issues that will bug you. keep exchanging til you are satisfied. Software-wise, there are many improvements coming your way. Be a bit patient for JB and later updates, or be adventurous and root/unlock and flash the great rom we have now...there will be more to come.

initially, i started having trouble with slowness and force closes. but after a hard reset, everything seems fine now. I recently had an issue with Maps, but the problem has gone away.

I have some minor light bleeds that I can live with, maybe 1-2 game crash in about a month of ownership, tablet is still not accepting my class 10 microsd 64gb (luckily the dock is fine with it), havent tried the blue tooth and streaming yet. I overall satisfied with it and waiting to see if JB can make it even better.

It`s built with perfection, no problem with the screen, dock etc. I have no lag or slugginess. It plays anything i throw at it. I run it just as it was out of the box. I have no problem with battery. Keep it with me all day, wifi allways active, surfing, writing, reading a lot. Heavy email user. Allways runs in "balanced" mode. Medium screen brightness. Only time i really notice any battery drain is when i stream and play my 1080p shows from my windows home server, i watch 4-5 hours at night and then i recharge, very normal for a tab. Browser sucks but thats a software issue.
When i read some of the negative comments and post over the last few days i first thought i was in the wrong forum, this cant be my TF700T they are talking about? But i really feel for thoose of you who have got problems with loose screens etc. Take that unit back to the store asap, thats not how the TF700T should be. And most of them are not.
I owned several tabs and tablet PC`s. I have very high standards and I dont stand for poor build quality, laggy software. Believe me when I say the TF700T is right now one of the absolute best Android tablets on the market. (In 2 months who know..)
I own the european (WW) version with 64mb and the only thing that explains the difference in build quality is there from different build batches in the assembly line.
For anyone that thinking about picking one up I say go for it!

+1 Here. I am having TF700 for the past one month ( Exchanged my TF201 in BestBuy) . I don't have any problems with it. Very very negligible light bleed ( i can live with it) , No lag at all. No problems with the battery . GPS works like a dream , Wifi is considerably strong and stable ( compared with TF201 ) .

Mine is also flawless. The screen's amazing, great for reading and HD video.

This is turning out to be just like the Primes "Positive Thread." With all the negitive post a few have been posting and reposting, it's nice to have a solid thread where people can express there joy satisfaction regarding owning the Infinity. I am also in the positive happy catagory very little to non exsistant LB! Everything is solid even streaming/using my BT headset for audio is great!
JB is starting to pop up as well Can't wait for some JB love!

No bugs here that weren't my non understanding of the OS or features of the tablet.
A few threads about problem devices had me pushing on the glass and thinking my wifi and GPS were under-performing.
Haven't seen any of that after 38 days of tinkering.
Hell I even left Mr Infinity all alone for two whole days!
When I flipped open the cover and pressed the button he woke up and said "swipe me!!!"
Very exciting l tell you.

i want to love mine but i dont know if i just keep getting unlucky. google play force closes on me a lot ;[ . movies are fine and beautiful make sure u partition ur sd cards right. games run fine that you actually buy. other then that this tablet is sexy as f

Im also very happy with mine its perfect, no light bleeds no loose screen nothing. its also very stable.

I exchanged my Best Buy Prime last weekend for an Infinity and I have none of the issues others are talking about. This is what the Prime should have been all along. No bleed, wifi and GPS both good. Very pleased.

It's good to see a thread like this. It gets pretty discouraging reading those negative threads of problems.
I have had my Infinity since July and am loving it!
No issues with screen, USB SD card or any of the reported problems I have seen.
This 64 Gb tablet has a dock and I have stuffed the SD slots with 32Gb's each.
It just WORKS!
The only thing that hasn't been tried is the HDMI. I have no need for it yet but the way things are going, it should be good to go.
I am so glad I didn't go with an iPad!

Mine became perfect when I read in these forums to turn on the performance mode. Ever since purchasing this tablet i had it in balanced mode and didn't even consider moving it to performance mode. Once I did that the tablet became smoother, faster and were no longer having issues with the tablet. It is like having a new tablet.
I appreciate the info i have gotten in this forum. It has kept me from making a mistake in returning this tablet. I am totally satisfied with the TF700.

My TF700T with its two TF201 dock keyboards works great. I have had zero issues from the start. I use my tablet with the dock most of the time as a unit. So much so that I purchased an additional TF201 dock keyboard. I keep the second dock attached to my AC power charger awaiting the need to swap out the dock thats currents attached to my tablet. After a heavy day of usage my tablet has some where around 40% remaining with the dock almost drained. At that time I just exchange docks and I am good to go. Both of my dock keyboards are a TF201 Prime version but both were updated from revision 206 to 207 as soon as they had the tablet inserted into them with a wifi network connected. I had a TF101 and a TF201 but this unit is fantastic from my standpoint. I can only imagine how it will perform once Jelly Bean is loaded onto it.

Only problem I have with my infinity is the browsing, but I expect that will be fixed directly. Other than that my device is good to go.

Loving mine as well, netflix works great and the only problem I've noticed is that sometimes I fail to press the h key. Great otherwise, tablet talk works great for it as well. Got a neoprene (roocase) case for it which works great

No problems so far.

Can I/O issue be fixed by Software? Evidence based.

Undoubtedly this is the hottest topic on this forum (so it seems). Based on what I have seen, there has been no convincing proof on either way. The benchmarks score comparison are great, but my belief is it may not reflect day to day experience as most of time you never push the system to its max.
So my hypothesis is Transformer Infintiy's I/O issue related user experience can be fixed by software even if the underlying issue had been hardware related.
Since some people believes the opposite, and this is infinity forum. I wanted to make myself right for the sake of infinity owners. But given no previous good convincing test, I have decided to test one thing.
First video
This is one example video that Anandtech showed back in July that Infinity is indeed experiencing I/O issue. This video simply proved that while I/O is in use, the whole system slowed down. Based on the date of this post, which is 7/26/2012, I am assuming the firmware used was V9.4.5.22.
Second video
The credit of this video goes to BarryH. The reason why I included this is Galaxy note 10.1, which I owned for 3 weeks should be used as gold standard in this comparison as it is perhaps the only worth mentioning competition of TF700T and it is really great tablet of its own. You can clearly see that the downloading file in background really had no effect at all on the Galaxy Note 10.1.
Third video
The above is my very first Youtube video ever. But that's not a point. This is running stock ROM, rooted. No build prop tweaks. The only special thing I have installed here is Browser2Ram. So for this basically, I used AirDroid (WIFI file transfer application) and transferred 1G+ file over my network. While doing so, I basically opened browser, and went to the same site as Galaxy note 10.1 did in above. The little delay after opening browser is not hang in browser, but simply I forgot to set to landscape mode.
Conclusion: Based on these I believe I can conclude followings:
Compare first to third. Infinity had already significantly improved its I/O performance. How did it do? Clearly not by changing hardware, but rather software. So this proves my hypothesis of software can indeed fix I/O issue that user actually see.
*Please note that since I have browser2ram installed, this may be different for pure stock user experience. And Zeus users may even have better experience than me.
Special thanks goes to BarryH_GEG. Without him posting first two youtube clips I wouldn't have actually realized that Infinity's I/O issue had already been nearly completely fixed on my unit.

For clarification, basically all I am doing here is that there is indeed a way that what we call IO issue that can be alleviated by software modification. So if anyone state its all hardware and can never be fixed/improved, that is incorrect statement. However, this does not prove stock Infinity in the future will receive such update. So you can have a hope, but hope has no guarantee.
Different people use device differently so I say try the device and update to the latest firmware and see if you still face the IO issue that is significant enough for you. I can say that it is definitely not as bad as first video show. Whether you can tolerate the IO lag or not is simply your personal preference. In the end, all devices have lag to certain degree when stressed. Even PS3, Xbox 360, or high end PC games gets frame drops when you stress them. The question is whether you care, and whether you push to the limit.
If I ever get chance, I will try to turn off Browser2Ram and try do the same test again and see what the true stock experience is, though I am certain it is not as bad as Anandtech video.
Update 9/24/2012
Since some people are pointing to the issue resolution is purely due to Browser2Ram, I did same test with this time while AirDroid transferring 1.1 GB file over the WIFI, I launched Final Fantasy 3. No lag even while launching. Everything is smooth. However, if I launch Horn instead of FF3, I did notice significantly longer time to load. So this is simply proving what I have said. We can fix issue to certain degree but whether the certain degree is enough for a specific user is really dependent. I am ok not being able to play Horn while I am transferring 1GB data, but some may not.

Of course Browser2RAM will help on this, you're caching to just RAM instead of the stupidly slow NAND memory Asus decided to put in their flagship device. Try the same "test" on complete stock and you'll see that it's a vastly different experience.
Zeus ROM works around the I/O issue by reducing or even eliminating SQLite fsyncs. Risky business for your data, good for performance. I like my data without corruption, so I'll pass, but others may not see it that way. They simply want the performance this tablet should have had in the first place.
Asus did reduce the overall sluggishness slightly with the .26 update that changed from NOOP scheduler to CFQ in the kernel, but the tablet still stutters. Browsing is far from smooth, even with alternative browsers like Dolphin HD. Performance is decent right after a reboot, but once memory fills up and Android starts its memory management and closing down processes (doing a lot of fsyncs in the process) it grinds to a halt. This wouldn't be a problem if flash I/O performance was higher.
The CM-based ROMs starting to pop up for the TF700 seems to help on the performance as well, and that's still with the 2.6.39.4-based kernel. CM's always been smoother than pretty much any stock device in my experience though, so no surprise there. They can never completely get rid of it though, since it's a hardware issue. Asus were stupid and chose cheap, slow NAND that gets totally crippled if you're doing random writes. There's no magic software to just fix it.

You're using Browser2RAM which greatly increases browsing performance by using RAM, which is several magnitudes faster than NAND flash. It's not even comparable. Sorry if I directed you wrong way. But my point here is not to prove stock has already fixed issue or not even to say IO issue can be completely fixed. The latter is simply unknown. But I am just proving here that there are ways software can make difference in user front, which some people questions.
To be honest, how do you even know RAM is not bottle neck? What about GPU, which is far inferior to the new Ipad in fact its even worth than iPad 2 by far margin? We see a number, and see its less than others so concluded its the conundrum, which could be true by good chance but not a proof.

FWIW, The best/cleverest hack I have seen is the TF201 dev who has been playing with remounting the internal SD card to point at the removable microSD card. If this can be made to work smoothly, it means that if you have an external card that is specced much higher than the stock internal flash you could eliminate the issue completely.
But of course that is really hacky. It's one of those you could brick if you don't install it right kind of deals so I don't ever see it being a mainstream options for these tabs unless ASUS productized it which would be a big expense in support for them, so, again, it'll never happen.

I've got to push back a bit. I think this is firmware related, but not of the device of individual components. I think this can be fixed with "software"

You can continue thinking that if it makes you feel better. I like and enjoy my Infinity but as a digital design engineer, to me this seems to clearly be a design issue @ the hardware level and will always limit the overall system to some degree. There are hard limits in any hardware software system. <Shrug>
My best advice to an end user is what I would give for any device issue: to decide whether it is a deal breaker for you *as it stands right now* and not sit around and wait for or bank on some kludgy cure that may be worse than the disease.
It's not too bad for me, I don't do tons of random I/O or web browsing. In fact, I'd say it would have taken me a long time to notice this on my own without the benchmarking and threads here... If it was unacceptable I would cut my losses and sell the tab and get a different device. Life is short, guys.

Well, again (and I now added to opening post) my point is not denying IO hardware issue existence. I am just simply providing proof here that it can be improved by software (to certain degree). Whether it is to the extent of users complete satisfaction would be different issue. However, to be honest, if you see my video and it was original retail packaged Infinity fully on stock and from the day 1 performance, don't you think less people would raise a voice? It's because software workaround can change what you see as user, and that's all I am proving here. So yes. this should give a hope to someone who thought, it's hardware related so never can be fixed. However, this does not confirm or deny ASUS to take a step and fix this because I am sure it will take some effort on their part, which clearly they have not spent so far if this had been a problem existed since TF201.
To put into extreme, they can modify OS such that all front end basic programs such as stock browser, movie player or whatever to actually run on RAM if that is what makes the difference. But would they do it? Absolute not, because they won't spend money on such big project for device that had already sold well and gained essentially best Android tablet metacritic reviews (I did not take actual poll but just following Infinity news daily, it seems like pretty much most site gives the highest score for android tablet).
So yup. I don't disagree with you guys that IO issue there. But my point here was to help people clarify that there are indeed ways to make better by software. Whether happens or not is out of my control and would simply be guess for anyone.

1) The performance is so bad that it precludes just the hardware. Maybe the hardware sucks but there is alot of performance lost somewhere cheap NAND from 2 years ago outperforms SQLite operations by >10x.
2) Performance seems to degrade with time. This is indictive of a wear leveling and writing algorithm which may or may not be able to be adjusted with firmware.
3) SQLite fsync performance appears to be tied to T3 frequency, that suggest there is something with the T3 drivers that could be tweaked vs NAND hardware limitations.
4)...
I'll also mention the OP is right. ASUS could do things with caching data before writing, and writing in chunks the NAND is best with limiting Virtual Ram etc.

No misleading here, don't worry
You are just describing software workarounds, though. None of which can permanently fix it entirely since it's a hardware limitation.
A proper "fix" would greatly increase I/O performance with no downsides. Browser2ram helps browsing, nothing else. Disabling SQLite fsyncs increases risk of data corruption or data loss at the cost of better overall performance.

I agree that they can probably make improvements with these kind of tweaks. The extent of the fix will always be limited by the low spec hardware in the end, though. So, I wouldn't encourage people to expect ginormous strides. For the most part, I expect more of the same with some evolutionary improvements but I doubt they will ever make a quantum leap. I would be angry if they made it worse but I'm an optimist at heart so I at least expect some slow improvement over time.
IMHO, as it stands it is usable and I'm hoping they can take it to "decent" (say the level pepole are seeing in Zeus). But to folks who are banging their heads against this constantly and unsatisfied as a result, I would still say there will be no true fix and you should bail on this device. It's a personal choice.
If you are willing to forgo your warrantly, I guess you could demo one of the custom ROMs. That probably shows you the extent of a software fix. But beware some of those fixes (cached writes) do put data integrity at risk. There is always a trade off.

If I understand the fsync thing correctly it can only cause issues if the device suddenly powers off, correct? While that may be a risk, it's a *very* small risk and well worth the performance improvement, in my opinion... I've used ROMs that disable fsync for quite some time and have never had a single issue...
I tend to go by real-world results instead of "theory"...
Same thing with "browser2ram" - it can only cause an issue if the device suddenly powers off and even then - so you lose some web cache data - so what?? Who cares if you lose your browser cache - it's just a browser cache!
Besides, if your device is powering off suddenly, you have much bigger problems than worrying about your cached web data!
I truly agree with the OP. People get so caught up on benchmarks and "what could happen" (even though in practice, it really doesn't)... Truth is, we all just want a better end-user experience - if they can "work around" hardware limitations via software then it makes sense to do that.
Obviously, the hardware isn't going to change, so complaining about that will never help whereas implementing software tweaks to work-around these hardware limitations *does* actually help...
Just my two cents!
By the way, I've been *very* happy with the performance of my TF700 since installing the Zeus ROM - another perfect of example of someone using software to get around the hardware limitations - and it works very well! Another example of "real world" results - that's all of the evidence that I need!

Unfortunately random reboots are not simply theory in case of the Infinity, especially if you're doing some memory-aggravating stuff on yours. I'm getting one every few days.

However, since you brought it up, I've personally never had a single random reboot on my TF700, which may be yet another example that most of this stuff can be fixed by software (since that does not occur on Zeus ROM)... So that just goes further to illustrate my point. I'm assuming that you are not running Zeus?

This is from the Quadrant thread. The rest of the conversation describing what SQLite is and the role it plays in overall IO performance is in that thread. All Zeus' ROM does is tweak the SQLite settings and if you read more in the other thread you'll understand why that plays a relatively minor role in overall IO performance. Bottom line is whether or not someone has memory and/or IO issues is more determined by what they do with their device than the s/w running on it. Which is why some people running stock are perfectly content while others are pulling their hair out.
P.S. - Sorry HoushaSen, the lack of information on what SQLite is and the obsession with Quadrant brought me back in to the discussion.

No problem. In the end this is still gray zone that (at least in my opinion) nobody knows what the end result is, and I think you stated well. It's really depends on user experience.
For those missed my last couple line update on opening thread. I actually had 1.1GB file download going on my infinity, and launched FF3 game, which was a breeze. No lag. So IO issue had been fixed partly from original already (assuming IO was really poor from get go, but I cannot confirm this because I do not have original firmware, and did not play FF3 when I had one). But I definitely noticed significantly far less ANR, which was one major reason I originally returned my infinity and hesitant to come back from Galaxy Note 10.1. However, if I launch Horn instead of FF3, it takes forever and even got ANR, which I hadn't seen for a while on my Infinity. Whether this is related IO or memory cap of 1GB or some other internal limitation is unknown, but since all I had was AirDroid transferring file and Horn is only other thing running, I am assuming 1GB is sufficient; hence, most likely related to IO issue. But having said this, how many would really complain about this? Not sure. Because even on my PC (which is not that high end) but I can basically get same issue. If I encode video and try to run high graphic PC game, the machine stalls, and even gives freeze. Would everyone complain about this? Some would and say that's why you get better PC. The other accepts it is what is, and simply don't encode, and play high end game at same time.
I am pretty satisfied with Infinity as all the concern I had before coming back to Infinity from Note seemed to be solved (at least for me) and got back to Full HD screen; however, there are clearly still people out there concerned of IO performance thus the topic continues to arise. Once everyone gets satisfactory IO result, I believe we will see significantly less discussion about this (if ever happens).
The fact we know are:
1. IO hardware on Infinity is last generation and not as fast as main stream current generation expensive tablets.
2. Software can change what user see (whole point my this particular thread)

1. Degree of how much software can change user experience. Whether enough to completely hide relatively poor performance of underlying IO hardware. Or opposite extreme is basically just soften up a little without true effect on most users.
2. Whether ASUS will even try fixing it.
Benchmark number is great to assess, but I really don't think that's what users are really interested unless someone who just want to say "hey my benchmark score is high!" If this is the case, nobody probably would ever get Apple because they are usually not after benchmark of individual component but rather they use decent hardware, minimize bottleneck by deciding all the hardware on their own, and write optimized OS. But individual pieces are not cutting edge for its price.
And in all honest, I am a bit lost at this point after writing this thread, what is it exactly that we are calling IO issue? Browser2Ram improved my browser speed but even Final Fantasy 3 runs fine from launch while I download a big file at its maximum speed. So I don't think it's browser2ram that did trick here, but rather ASUS already fixed IO issue for downloading file completely hogs the system. If the issue is slow stock browser, that may not be IO related. It may simply be ASUS did not optimize the stock browser. Maybe my system runs so well because I have turned all the bloatware off and many stock user aren't?

My mum got a TF700T for Christmas and since the first use she's been underwhelmed by it.
It feels very slow, menus are jerky, apps are jerky and very slow to load.
Apps regularly close for no reason or Force Close.
Browser regularly freezes. Freezes for a bit when opening a tab, very jerky scrolling.
I assume it has the latest OTA.
The tab is totally stock with just a handful of apps from the Play Store.
Just now she described to me that the screen "went brown, had speckles and then it rebooted". I'm using it trying to replicate this now.
Is this normal for a TF700T? I know there's a lot of pixel to push on the screen but it has a Tegra3 quad core which should by all accounts, be more than capable.
Just got a notification for an OTA which is
"JRO03C.WW_epad-10.4.4.25-20121228" Hopefully might improve the situation somewhat.

No it's not normal at all, if you do a clean install stock rom it should works fairly decent. If you unlock and flash Cleanrom it will flies!! This is no joke!!

If you unlock, flash cleanrom and then install dual boot ubuntu, it will blow your mind.

I never know what to say when this query pops up.
I'm with the CROMi users, yet this tablet should of course run fine with the original OS.
The consensus obviously is all over the place as far as user experience.
Some are fine with Android in the pure form others are disappointed.
I was initially disappointed, yet after going with a custom ROM the satisfaction and performance level has topped out.

I do agree this is not normal but.. reading what Asus tells people like on Newegg haha their answer was to "cold boot it should take care of it". Not call us we will fix it but act like this is normal. When some people never have this problem..
