Rooted Note 10.1 - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Firstly im not a total noob at this and i have flashed my note 1 and note 2 with 100% success, but i have just tried flashing my note 10.1 using odin.
The install started fine and then all of a sudden it came up with a red fail on the device. I can still get into download mode but a re-attempt didn't work.
The screen says to use kies to do a recovery however kies doesn't come up with anything.
All help appreciated.
Thanks.

what version of note 10.1 are you using?..

Cool, thanks for your help will give it a go once downloaded.

I am having the same exact problem but with the wifi only 8013. I am in Odin mode and tried to reflash back to stock but it keeps failing. My computer is now telling me that the device has malfunctioned after reinstalling the drivers.

I tried to install CWM after I updated to the official ATT ROM, I used odin 1.85 and it failed and then it would not boot. This is the screen I get when I try to start. Odin , Kies, or PC will not connect. I was rooted on stock ROM before update I deleted superuser before update. Any suggestions would help.THX
That should still be download mode
Re download drivers and Odin. Odin should see your device in download mode when that screen appears

I thought so too but when I try to connect thru Kies the connection times out. I have ran the connection repair tool several times and still no go. Thanks for the reply Odin won't reconize it either.

Cd's correct, you're still in download mode- that's good. USB drivers appear to be jacked. Try a different usb port or delete the Samsung ports in device manager and reconnect phone, that will reinstall the drivers.
Also, stick with flashing in odin and make sure kies isn't running in task manager. Redownload the cwm tar and reflash it.
Good luck.
Got it going thanks for all the quick help xda members are the best.

Firmware upgrade encountered an issue & it won't go into download mode

Hi there,
I was flashing my Samsung infuse 4g and my little brother grabbed the USB cable. so everything got messed up!
when I connect the phone to my computer this message shows up "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again."
I've tried to do that and nothing seemed to be working
I've tried to flash another ROM but the problem is that the phone won't go into download mode so I can use Odin.
Please help!

Actually this is download mode my friend. Just load odin and you are gonna be able to flash a rom in the phone and you'll be back on track in no time

I had to flash the ClockworkMod-Recovery first because it didn't accept any ROM.
It worked just fine. now I'm running the AoCP 6.4 ROM and the phone is way way faster than before
Thank you so much! )))))

[Q] FIrmware upgrade encountered an issue

Hi All,
I'm hoping someone can help me with my non-rooted Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Tablet (GT-P110). The tablet won't go into download or recovery mode, and it's saying "Firmware Upgrade encountered an Issue. Please select recovery mode in KIES and try again". I've tried using Kies, but it's not recognising the device.
I've downloaded Odin 3.09 and a stock ROM from Samsung Updates. When I go to flash the ROM via ODIN it fails at around the 60-70% mark. I've tried a different stock ROM, but the same thing happens.
Is there anything else I could try?
Many Thanks...

Try a different cable if possible, different pc/laptop and go to samsung website and download drivers for your tablet model. Sometimes Kies doesn't do a good job with drivers.
Try rebooting tablet and connecting it right away to pc/laptop.
Good luck.

I have tried a different cable, laptop and downloaded the drivers from the Samsung website, but I was still stuck with the same problem. I tried using Odin 3.07 and this got me further than before. It went through the flash process and I then got the blue reset message. The problem is that the tablet doesn't reset and just goes to a black screen. When I try to manually reset the tablet it comes back with the same message "Firmware Upgrade encountered an Issue. Please select recovery mode in KIES and try again"
Has anyone got any other suggestions I could try?
Many Thanks...
I've had the exact same issue before and in my case simply removing the external sd card before flashing with Odin solved the problem.

I never thought of that because I keep a nandroid copy on my external SD, so I always pull it from my phone or tablet when flashing /reset just to be safe. Doesn't everyone do that?

Bricked device, any chance of fixing ?

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
So what happened, my tablet started going very slow after the latest update so i decided to downgrade it. Because i was a bit stupid at that time i installed a software for a different device . After that, my tablet kept on restarting and after it finally went on the desktop, the desktop was re sized and the touchscreen wasn't working. I tried a lot of things to fix it. I went into download mode and i tried installing the correct software but somehow my tablet crashed completely. Now I'm stuck on the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. lease select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I have no access to recovery or download mode and Kies doesn't recognize my device. It says connecting for 5 minutes and then it says connection failed. If i try to switch off the tablet it keeps on switching back on until battery dies with the same message showing up. Can anyone help me fix the tablet and have a full software thats working properly?
It's Emmc bricked and it's very very difficult to fix and I don't know how to do it.
While your tablet is showing the Firmware upgrade screen you should be able to connect it to Odin and flash a stock firmware.
If pc doesn't recognize uninstall Kies and install just drivers for tablet and try again.
Google can help you find and download the stock firmware.

That is scary, happened to me once, hold the power button for 10+ seconds. When the tab turns black, immediately hold the vol down button, hold it at the right time, if it fails try again, took me 5 or 6 times before I entered recovery. I just went to my guts, frankly I do not know what happened. Do you still have warrently? Can you send it to the JTAG service?
Somehow I could not enter download mode when I used any combination, so I relied only on the recovery to fix stuff. I would go to adb.
Perhaps this is a different condition, sorry. I am a flash junkie things work if you have cwm or twrp
Like @PanchoPlanet said already: it's the BSOD ("BlackScreen of Death") - DownloadMode is running in background automatically on that screen, you should be able to use odin to flash a rom.

No I used the TWRP application. Never had an issue with it on my nexus devices. My tab 2 is sitting at tomy1986.nt's house waiting to be jtag'd but he doesnt have the stock image. I bought another tab 2 just like it but when it got to my house the person sold me a tab instead of a tab 2 as the ad said it was. So thus I am stuck.

My next option is having the device shipped back and send it to http://www.mobiletechvideos.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-10-1/ and pay $75 for them to fix it. I know the device isnt worth it but its the principal of the matter of me breaking something and not being able to fix it. Thus I am offering $20 to anyone that can get me the files I need.
@ChrisJobe idk the application... Any link?

Thats the application

I have used this same application on all my devices and never had an issue until the tab2
If it's an app, i am sure uses real block name for flash.
On p51xx recovery sits on /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 - that's your broken block now.
You need to know, what's stored on /dev/block/mmcblk0p6 on your device...
After that you know what's needed (recovery too? Boot? Efs?)
I think you need to send it to a service center - i couldn't find anything for your tab: no recovery, no root... Simply nothing...
No root = no one can backup the block for you.

Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 bricked

hi ,My Galaxy tab 2 10.1 P5100 (Android 4.0.4) have ''hard bricked'' Is there anything i can do that i could unbrick my tablet, it even doesn't show, the battery logo, when im charging, any help?

Have you tried charging it from a PC (in case charging block is dead) or another cord? Unless you were flashing something like a wrong bootloader, I don't know how you can brick these things.

I think he means "odin/downloader mode" and the key combination for it is power+volume down.

I heard some members talking about how they unbricked their tab using OMAP Flasher. Maybe you could go try it?
EDIT: I think it's this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109044
another thread about OMAP Flasher even tho its not Tab 2: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development/guide-repair-totally-sleep-dead-boot-t1701471
