I've recently rooted my galaxy nexus to load jelly bean 4.1.1. I was wondering if anyone has boosted the Cpu clock to speed up there phone. What are your thoughts on this?
Any help would be great
Thanks...

...are you serious? I'd give you an answer, but it's way too damn easy to find out for yourself that I'm gonna let you do that. I believe in you!

Sure it is possible, but why? With JB and a nice kernel mine is so damn fast I just want to slow it down a bit and enjoy the battery.
I know how to do it.. It's really easy! I'm over clocking now...
My question is for those who have bump up there speed, have you notice a big difference in performance, battery drain, or your phone running a little warmer when using it quite a bit..
Those of us who have a galaxy Nexus know that battery life sucks! And performance can be questionable at times. I was just looking for opinions on the pros and cons of over clocking from people who have been running it longer than me...

It strikes me as a bad idea. My Samsung Galaxy Nexus cdma phone gets plenty hot and sucks plenty of juice without overclocking, even though I keep LTE turned off. It's also a very snappy (and stable) performer with stock 4.04.
Every chip is different, so you're going to find that your experiences might not necessarily be like ours. Some folks have OCed to 1.8ghz for the hell of it, whereas I could pull off no where near that with mine. That being said, I've stopped overclocking altogether as, especially with jellybean, my phone is already pretty damn fast.
I appreciate all your input. I'll probably set it back to interactive and back to a cap of 1200.. I've just noticed now that I have my JB all set up. I've found it to be a little chunky at times. Going into Google now, and some times using the voice input..
I'm surrounded by ios lovers and I'm a huge Android guy and I really want to show them up with the performance of JB, so I don't have to hear them ***** about how chunky android can be..
I'm sure it all has to do with the JB build I I've loaded..
Again thank you for your time..

No way why would I do that.

First off, this is not to take anything away from the incredible work put in by everyone. Its awesome that an online community can put so much effort in and share with people they've never met.
That said, have we gained much from this ICS? I was running XBSALL's GB ROM with the Prometheus kernel and it worked very well. 1400MHz, could occasionally free up 300MB RAM, scored 6500 on Antutu and had good battery life. Has this brought us anything more?
I asked this question before the port and was told that ICS will bring features like RAM management etc that will make our phones much better. We are still in the early stages of a ported ICS so we can't expect much yet but will this upgrade make a big difference to our phones?
I'm still quite a noob - GB was a massive improvement over Froyo, will we eventually see the same level of improvement with ICS?

I think so but i guess we have to wait for some time.

In my opinion the Stock ICS is much better than Stock GB...
Also my Antutu Benchmark scores were:
GB: ~4500
ICS: ~5600
GB(Promethius Project 21e + no idea b1) : 7017
Hehe but you cant compare a custom roms score with stock
Sent from my P920 using ICS 4.0.4 by XBSA
No, of course. Well that's a big jump between stock ROMs and your gain was massive. Is there a potential then to hit 8000? That would be incredible.

lol the O3D would blow up if it hit 8000 but i wonder what is the highest possible OC on the O3D it's strange that not all o3D hit the same OC like i Max out @ 1.38
Well the dark lestat used to be able to oc till 1.69 ghz!!! And me 1.5ghz

Haha well mine was just over 5000 on stock GB and I managed to improve the score by 1400 but this guy jumped his score over 2500.
Regarding overclock, Prometheus did a really excellent job. On a stock ROM, mine was very unstable if over clocked to 1200 but was smooth at 1400 with his custom kernel.

ICS make a better use of RAM resources. This can be seen by exiting from games or browsers.
According to speed - maximum benchmarks should be the same on the same MHz. And the MHz depend on the voltage (and this is s.t. that you do not want to increase too much unless you want to charge it every 2h or have a NONmobile phone). And the voltage depend on the kernel. So... in this aspect - they are the same (probably 5% more points gained from different tweaks in the kernel but nobody can say for GB or ICS )
Ability to somewhat multitask by holding down the home button is quite nice.

biggest differnce? now you can use ics apps... NBA 2K13 yeeeeeeaaaaa
OK, having played around with this, it is a much more efficient firmware. RAM management is better, giving faster performance.

after a few headaches and watery eyes ive managed to install ICS big thx xbsalls :good:
on stock rom and kernel , scored 33xx(variable) on quadrant which is pretty impressive me thinks
i love the new rom, and all its features its bit like cm but with 3d lol
going to try and root and install custom rom next

WOW i was using Acura 3D max for a while but couldnt get a signal with the maximo speed kernels not sure why, only kernel that worked for me was Titan 0.6+
TBH i had to use Titan kernel for most non CM roms in order to get signal, maybe it was my baseband, im still on a massive learning curve lol
The fastet Rom i personally tested for GB was JOY OS , boy that was lightening quick , 4000 - 4200 plus on quadrant
:good:
thx for the info though buddy
I am on cm 10.1 and the battery isn't much different from stock. Also, the tab gets hotter than it did on stock. Any kernel that keeps the device cool and saves battery? I am willing to change ROMs if its CM's fault, but the ROM you suggest should be waaay better to convince me to change ROMs.

not sure whether it's kernel or CM10.1's fault! But i don't like 4.2.x based roms just yet, they're just not stable enough for my liking.
I use AOKP Milestone 1 on my P3110 and i was using it last night and battery was on 7 days and blah blah blah with 47% battery left! Admiting i only use it about 4 hours each day!

Do you play games????
If not go to processor clock settings and underclock it to say 800,600 or less.
Your tab will not get hot and you will get better battery life!!!
Also you can try ketut kernel...
And about other Roms cm10.1 is best one after stock 4.1.2(debloated)
And device getting hot is normal.

Bike Race runs fine at 300-600MHz. It still heats up quite a bit though.
Nobody else really uses my Tab but my mother for Candy Crush, and PIE doesn't even work. But since nobody else is recommending any more ROMs, it looks like I'll be stating on cm.

So I have the US version and I've had it for a while (about a month) and I'm really disappointed with the performance. Scroll lags, the notification shade pulls down smoother on a galaxy player (that has less than 500mb of ram and is single core) and the 3d gaming performance is laggy. Like GTA3 should be able to run on max settings! Just disappointed and expected more.

Try flashing Cyanogen Mod from the original android section. General ui is much snappier and it doesn't have game lag like all the 4.1.2 TW ROMs.
Samsung really dropped the ball with the 4.1.2 updates. A phone this powerful should not lag playing temple run.

Are you running it stock? Phone runs great with custom stock ROMs & Kernals, but everyone has their own opinions. The games i've played ive not have any lag, but i'm running a custom kernal and ROM. That probably has is the difference, but i'm not overclocked.
well there's only two things that are certain in this world.... no tech device is ever perfect and taxes always increase.
If you expect anything different you will always be disappointed.
That being said, I had ANdroid phones since the HTC Eris and they keep improving. S3 is really nice, maybe the best of this generation, but its not perfect.
Lots of people are looking for infinite gaming speed + infinite battery life... well the two don't go together. There are always trade-off. speed vs. power, vs. size, vs. cost.
Oh and by the way, multi-core is mostly a marketing gimmick. The GPU does most of the graphics work and most apps are not multi-threaded, so a fast single core beats a slower multi-core every time. It's cheaper to make a slow multi-core processor than to make a faster single core.
I also noticed lag on the device which i put off was caused by Touch Wiz. I confirmed this when i finally rooted and started trying different ROMs.
The lag is there in all TW ROM's for me; however if you really want to stick with TW, the smoothest running TW ROM I've tried so far is Goodness. That is what i'm currently using. I don't experience lag during gaming or Apps though even with touch wiz... so might be just your phone.
However, if you can do without touchwiz, the AOSP ROMs are like butter and i experience no lag at all. At least the 4.2.2 ROMS. I've tried Liquidsmooth, paranoid android, Pac-man and Chameleon.
Crazy I'm 100 % stock and my phone runs awesome! I don't do much gaming so I can't chime in on that but I don't have lag at all like you describe. Do you have a live wallpaper installed??
Sent from my GeeEssThree
I've tried a lot of the TW based ROM, Synergy, Hyperdrive , others and all the well developed one's run great for me. I don't see any lag. I also tried CM10 and no noticeable difference, I think a lot of the comment are caused by placebo effec, some people just hate OEM stufft. Also people will load up their home screens with 3000 widgets and say wow this phone / rom sucks, LOL m Then they load some new ROM with no widgets yet and go, wow this is really smooth....... until they load 3000 widgets and it sucks again. Hey , there really is a limit to performance on any phone.

ok so you mean to say we should not do anything to improve our device just because its ok ?
if you think its fast then have a look at other (costlier) devices then you will realize what's really fast.
overclocking would make a big difference .

Why do you need to overclock it. Expensive phones don't bring major difference. Micromax C2+ can play high-end games without lag, play 1080p vidoes using software decoder in MX Player or many other player... What else you want?
Still mad for overclocking? Try SetCPU it works.
still the scrolling is not smooth enough
on facebook app ,scrolling sucks
fone has minor frame drops sometimes, all this can be overcome by overclocking.
setcpu just allows to set cpu frequency to max , thats not overclocking, earlier i had a 1 ghz device and it was overclocked to 1.4 thats what you call overclocking

Mediatek Cips don't support over clocking. They have some limiter sort but it can be overlooked with hardware modifications!
Samsung phones uses Qualcomm chips which has overclocking functionality! If you use app or kereel to OC the CUP tries to get peak OC but won't and get heat ups quickly.
