So I have the US version and I've had it for a while (about a month) and I'm really disappointed with the performance. Scroll lags, the notification shade pulls down smoother on a galaxy player (that has less than 500mb of ram and is single core) and the 3d gaming performance is laggy. Like GTA3 should be able to run on max settings! Just disappointed and expected more.

OK? Why post this? Why not just get a new phone? Have you tried any other ROMs?

I played Tactics Ogre on my phone and Dead Trigger with no problems. Plus with most ROMs I don't encounter the same lag you have experience.
Maybe Powersave mode is on...

Sorry, the rest got cut out for some reason. I was asking if anyone else had this problem.
And a new phone is not an option. My family is on forclosure on the house right now so I might just cancel my data plan and use this as like an iPod.

Idk man, I've not had much lag at all. I've been rooted since the day I got it of course, so I've been running custom ROMs for a while.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Try flashing Cyanogen Mod from the original android section. General ui is much snappier and it doesn't have game lag like all the 4.1.2 TW ROMs.
Samsung really dropped the ball with the 4.1.2 updates. A phone this powerful should not lag playing temple run.

I get some lag while playing ingress and minecraft. Kinda annoying but it's better than my old phone and I hope my next is better than this one.

Are you running it stock? Phone runs great with custom stock ROMs & Kernals, but everyone has their own opinions. The games i've played ive not have any lag, but i'm running a custom kernal and ROM. That probably has is the difference, but i'm not overclocked.
well there's only two things that are certain in this world.... no tech device is ever perfect and taxes always increase.
If you expect anything different you will always be disappointed.
That being said, I had ANdroid phones since the HTC Eris and they keep improving. S3 is really nice, maybe the best of this generation, but its not perfect.
Lots of people are looking for infinite gaming speed + infinite battery life... well the two don't go together. There are always trade-off. speed vs. power, vs. size, vs. cost.
Oh and by the way, multi-core is mostly a marketing gimmick. The GPU does most of the graphics work and most apps are not multi-threaded, so a fast single core beats a slower multi-core every time. It's cheaper to make a slow multi-core processor than to make a faster single core.
I also noticed lag on the device which i put off was caused by Touch Wiz. I confirmed this when i finally rooted and started trying different ROMs.
The lag is there in all TW ROM's for me; however if you really want to stick with TW, the smoothest running TW ROM I've tried so far is Goodness. That is what i'm currently using. I don't experience lag during gaming or Apps though even with touch wiz... so might be just your phone.
However, if you can do without touchwiz, the AOSP ROMs are like butter and i experience no lag at all. At least the 4.2.2 ROMS. I've tried Liquidsmooth, paranoid android, Pac-man and Chameleon.
Crazy I'm 100 % stock and my phone runs awesome! I don't do much gaming so I can't chime in on that but I don't have lag at all like you describe. Do you have a live wallpaper installed??
Sent from my GeeEssThree
I've tried a lot of the TW based ROM, Synergy, Hyperdrive , others and all the well developed one's run great for me. I don't see any lag. I also tried CM10 and no noticeable difference, I think a lot of the comment are caused by placebo effec, some people just hate OEM stufft. Also people will load up their home screens with 3000 widgets and say wow this phone / rom sucks, LOL m Then they load some new ROM with no widgets yet and go, wow this is really smooth....... until they load 3000 widgets and it sucks again. Hey , there really is a limit to performance on any phone.

I'm currently on the Bugless Beast ROM, and it is very stable and pretty much like the name says without bugs, I have yet to have a problem with it.
However I have been thinking of going to MIUI, but I don't know how stable and/or fast it would be compared to my current ROM.
So what is your opinion?
Anyone know?
Almost-stable but..
Too low available memory and low speed makes me use CM9.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
MIUI is not as stable as the ics roms. I sometimes get lag such as the MIUI locker. There is still lots of bug. But it is stable enough for daily use.
But the recent update makes the contacts in small photos. So i switch back to codename android rom.
You can give it a try.

Thanks, I guess I'll just say with BB, I like ROMs fast and as stable as possible.
Although, according to the ICS ROM Benchmarks Nexus S List, there are two MIUI ROMs in the top five. Catalyst MIUI, one of my favorite ROMs, is a bit laggy. Perhaps, because it has Force GPU Rendering and Keep Launcher in Memory checked but then again I haven't tried it with those settings unchecked.
I would give it a try. It is really a beautiful ROM (something different).

I also love MIUI due to its interface
MIUI is still in early development, so the MIUI team does not optimize the rom so much.
That's why MIUI has sudden lag and is buggy.

...are you serious? I'd give you an answer, but it's way too damn easy to find out for yourself that I'm gonna let you do that. I believe in you!

Sure it is possible, but why? With JB and a nice kernel mine is so damn fast I just want to slow it down a bit and enjoy the battery.
I know how to do it.. It's really easy! I'm over clocking now...
My question is for those who have bump up there speed, have you notice a big difference in performance, battery drain, or your phone running a little warmer when using it quite a bit..
Those of us who have a galaxy Nexus know that battery life sucks! And performance can be questionable at times. I was just looking for opinions on the pros and cons of over clocking from people who have been running it longer than me...

It strikes me as a bad idea. My Samsung Galaxy Nexus cdma phone gets plenty hot and sucks plenty of juice without overclocking, even though I keep LTE turned off. It's also a very snappy (and stable) performer with stock 4.04.
Every chip is different, so you're going to find that your experiences might not necessarily be like ours. Some folks have OCed to 1.8ghz for the hell of it, whereas I could pull off no where near that with mine. That being said, I've stopped overclocking altogether as, especially with jellybean, my phone is already pretty damn fast.
I appreciate all your input. I'll probably set it back to interactive and back to a cap of 1200.. I've just noticed now that I have my JB all set up. I've found it to be a little chunky at times. Going into Google now, and some times using the voice input..
I'm surrounded by ios lovers and I'm a huge Android guy and I really want to show them up with the performance of JB, so I don't have to hear them ***** about how chunky android can be..
I'm sure it all has to do with the JB build I I've loaded..
Again thank you for your time..

Yes I know this should be in apps and themes but everyone deserves to see this, especially us Tbolt guys.
This has been proven to be a placebo affect. I have tested it for almost 3 days now and it doesn't really help at all. Also someone mentioned in that forum it doesn't work properly with snapdragon processors because the rndg is different than others. If it does help at all I think it would help more for the lag that comes from not rebooting for a long period of time.

I have been using it with unsense and it hasn't really improved anything. No difference in performance without it either. Like I said it's a placebo caused by the fact that the tweak actually wakes your processor repeatedly which is why your phone seems to react better. You can use it if you like but it is really just a battery drainer. You can get the same performance increase by setting your governor on performance.

I ran it on nu sense and it drained my battery and noticed no improvement in speed. You see an increase because you want to see an increase. Its like throttle body spacers people puts on their cars. Suppose to improve performance and increase fuel mileage. They do no such thing but make a nice paper weight. People who had them swear they could feel an increase. One guy put his truck on a dyno and tested with it on and with it off. His results was with it on he lost a few hp. This is why butt dynos are so inaccurate because we make our selves believe we can see and feel a difference. When in fact there isn't.

Like I mentioned in my earlier post. It cause a wake lock on the processor making it wake repeatedly which is the likely reason that anyone notices anything. It in no way shape or form affects entropy which was the original intent of the app. Google has also stated that the very issue this is supposed to fix was actually fixed with the release of ICS. Try it on a gb rom and see if it actually works. Also, after you run it for a few days disable it and see if there is a decrease in performance. I've ran it for about three days and there is no difference without it running.

I have installed Seeder on my Gingerbread (SkyRaider Zeus) Thunderbolt and 4.2.1 Galaxy Tab 10.1.
In neither case has it improved speed, launching or operations.
I wanted to believe. In my testing, i call it wishful thinking.
Lately I've been switching back and forth from Stock Samsung JB rom to Custom JB roms (4.2.2) and notice a huge difference in gaming performance and general smoothness.
For me, I feel like all recent custom roms that I've tried, whether its CM10.1, or SLIM6 or AOKP, seem to be a bit laggy when running games compared to the stock JB feel of the same games. It seems like the only way I can get reasonable performance is if I disable hardware overlays, but its still not quite as nice and smooth as stock.
Is this type of thing purely KERNAL controlled? Or is it just the fact that its 4.2.2 and not really optimized for the skyrocket yet? I mean the Android UI feels smoother on custom roms, but in games it does not... I can't wrap my head around that...
Its bugging me because I feel like all these lightweight custom roms should blow away the stock rom in almost all aspects... but if performance can't be better, its a deal breaker for me as daily driver.
I'm sure all the devs are doing their best to work on performance issues and I do appreciate all the hard work going into all the custom roms by the devs, as without them, we'd have nothing to cure our flashing itch of course...
Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this, but does anyone have any proven methods of boosting performance of games?

Oh ok, well are you running any other mods/scripts/tools that would speed up performance? I tried stable as well but it still stuttered for me "out of the box".
ALSO, I can't even get the free game "Subway Surfers" to load off the Play Store at all... does it work for you? It used to work fine for me, but now I'm just getting a black screen on game load (soft keys are lit and system is not frozen), it never starts. I've always done a full wipe, even tried wiping internal SD, and it still won't run. If I go back to stock JB rom, it works perfectly fine everytime....
Maybe the game developer locked it down to only stock kernals with a recent update?!?... is that even possible?

The real question is why not? LOL. Honestly though I just like finding new things to do with my phone and coming from a locked Galaxy S4 I have to say I'm enjoying the amount of things I can do with this device that I couldn't on the S4. The extra 600MHz was because I was hoping it would drop any chances of lag with my favorite apps & Xposed which always seems to cause a delay or two for me. On the other hand I like squeezing what I can out of it. Same with my Desktop too, get maximum stable over clock and stick with it. ;D. If there's some downsides such as life shortage feel free to mention it though because I'd rather know early on than when it's too late. Sorta the point of this thread

Well with normal use it gets like 40-55 C (CPU) and during an Antutu benchmark just at the beginning it hit 75C sooo not very happy with that.... especially considering that's in the highs for a lot of desktop processors, can't even imagine how bad that must be for a phone processor LOL. It was @2.803 MHz with voltage of "1130" & ondemand governor. Not so sure as to what "1130" is based on though as I'm new to mobile over clocking, guess I'll figure it out tomorrow!
Edit: Forgot to include that just a few minutes ago I flashed a new kernel due to some random lag, old one never hit above 50 even on tests (with intelliactive). Also using ondemand/interactive now. Gonna re check the differences on those two governors tomorrow and decide which one I wanna go with! : D
