Gaming Performance on ALL custom JB roms - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Lately I've been switching back and forth from Stock Samsung JB rom to Custom JB roms (4.2.2) and notice a huge difference in gaming performance and general smoothness.
For me, I feel like all recent custom roms that I've tried, whether its CM10.1, or SLIM6 or AOKP, seem to be a bit laggy when running games compared to the stock JB feel of the same games. It seems like the only way I can get reasonable performance is if I disable hardware overlays, but its still not quite as nice and smooth as stock.
Is this type of thing purely KERNAL controlled? Or is it just the fact that its 4.2.2 and not really optimized for the skyrocket yet? I mean the Android UI feels smoother on custom roms, but in games it does not... I can't wrap my head around that...
Its bugging me because I feel like all these lightweight custom roms should blow away the stock rom in almost all aspects... but if performance can't be better, its a deal breaker for me as daily driver.
I'm sure all the devs are doing their best to work on performance issues and I do appreciate all the hard work going into all the custom roms by the devs, as without them, we'd have nothing to cure our flashing itch of course...
Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this, but does anyone have any proven methods of boosting performance of games?

No lag here on cm10.1 gta3, block story, zenonia, majesty, sims 3, game of life, n64, psx, GBA.

Hey sorry for the late response.
Hmm, that's interesting. Are you on 10.1 stable or nighties? Hardware overlays disabled?

Oh ok, well are you running any other mods/scripts/tools that would speed up performance? I tried stable as well but it still stuttered for me "out of the box".
ALSO, I can't even get the free game "Subway Surfers" to load off the Play Store at all... does it work for you? It used to work fine for me, but now I'm just getting a black screen on game load (soft keys are lit and system is not frozen), it never starts. I've always done a full wipe, even tried wiping internal SD, and it still won't run. If I go back to stock JB rom, it works perfectly fine everytime....
Maybe the game developer locked it down to only stock kernals with a recent update?!?... is that even possible?

Is the official MIUI ICS ROM stable?

I'm currently on the Bugless Beast ROM, and it is very stable and pretty much like the name says without bugs, I have yet to have a problem with it.
However I have been thinking of going to MIUI, but I don't know how stable and/or fast it would be compared to my current ROM.
So what is your opinion?
Anyone know?
Almost-stable but..
Too low available memory and low speed makes me use CM9.

MIUI is not as stable as the ics roms. I sometimes get lag such as the MIUI locker. There is still lots of bug. But it is stable enough for daily use.
But the recent update makes the contacts in small photos. So i switch back to codename android rom.
You can give it a try.

Thanks, I guess I'll just say with BB, I like ROMs fast and as stable as possible.
Although, according to the ICS ROM Benchmarks Nexus S List, there are two MIUI ROMs in the top five. Catalyst MIUI, one of my favorite ROMs, is a bit laggy. Perhaps, because it has Force GPU Rendering and Keep Launcher in Memory checked but then again I haven't tried it with those settings unchecked.
I would give it a try. It is really a beautiful ROM (something different).

I also love MIUI due to its interface
MIUI is still in early development, so the MIUI team does not optimize the rom so much.
That's why MIUI has sudden lag and is buggy.

You could try MIUIXperience! It's a great option for MIUI with several tweaks and themes. Awesome ROM with great battery life and performance.

I'm using catalyst and liking it. But does use a little bit to much memory. Heard super charger helps but looks to confusing for me to try it.

Temple Run 2

Those who r facing error while downloading the temple run 2 from android store due it's large size, here is a direct download link...

Playing this game with "better" graphic setting @ 1401MHz is the best setting.

Does anyone experience slight lag with temple run 2 on sense 4 roms?
I get lags and slow responsiveness on Official ICS 4.0.4
With some tweaks using Kernel Tuner app, I can play this game with "best" graphic setting @ 1401MHz

Downloads fine from the play store here, on ice cream saga and Andromadus.
Yes, setting the graphics to the highest quality causes lag in the game.

Getting slight lag on ICS and Andromadus CM 10.1 Build 13 on medium settings at 1510Mhz . I mean it's playable but but sometimes framerate drops. Also I didn't have download issue both on HTC ICS (downloaded through H data) and Andromadus (WiFi).

On JB 4.2, At 1.2ghz its quite laggy...but still playable ....A nice update from the imangi I must say..
Great game and no lag
I didn't have any problem with the downloading and actually it drops frames, not lagging. It doesn't affect the gameplay I think.

Best android 4+ rom

As mebtioned in title i would like to know the best rom avalable that can play intense games lagfree like running fred( tried this on captivating xperia themed but lagged) or other games . Plus i eould like to get highscores on benchmarks .
So please what do you suggest?
I have also tried salty bean and slim bean. But all lagged while playing temple run 2 and running fred.
Now im on stock rom 2.3.5 and they run lagless.

EDIT: But for your question, I don't know dude. If it's lagless on Stock Gingerbread, then stay with it. I'm currently experimenting and I'm back to Helly Bean 4.1.2 with the Devil 1.9.5 kernel, overclocked to 1.2 GHz and I'm fine with games. Try Seeder, maybe it helps with lag.
Seeder? thanks but i just dont like the look of gingerbread. Thanks
I know i made a mistake having many tabs open . I should have posted in qiestions

Try different roms. Try CM9, CM10, Helly Bean 4.1.2, Helly 4.2.2...It's trial and error mate.

Ask a mod to move the thread.
Running Fred isn't an intense game....compare it to nfs most wanted for example.
nfs most wanted plays without any lags on captivating....I think that game isn't optimized for 4.2. Hence your results on different 4.2 roms.

thank you btw i will try the milestone 2
Best ROM's for doing anything would fall on you OP, with so many variables involved, user apps/user tweaks/user usage the only real way to find the best is for you to flash and run and Test....
Thanks

Disappointing performance.

So I have the US version and I've had it for a while (about a month) and I'm really disappointed with the performance. Scroll lags, the notification shade pulls down smoother on a galaxy player (that has less than 500mb of ram and is single core) and the 3d gaming performance is laggy. Like GTA3 should be able to run on max settings! Just disappointed and expected more.

Sorry, the rest got cut out for some reason. I was asking if anyone else had this problem.
And a new phone is not an option. My family is on forclosure on the house right now so I might just cancel my data plan and use this as like an iPod.

Try flashing Cyanogen Mod from the original android section. General ui is much snappier and it doesn't have game lag like all the 4.1.2 TW ROMs.
Samsung really dropped the ball with the 4.1.2 updates. A phone this powerful should not lag playing temple run.

I get some lag while playing ingress and minecraft. Kinda annoying but it's better than my old phone and I hope my next is better than this one.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Are you running it stock? Phone runs great with custom stock ROMs & Kernals, but everyone has their own opinions. The games i've played ive not have any lag, but i'm running a custom kernal and ROM. That probably has is the difference, but i'm not overclocked.
well there's only two things that are certain in this world.... no tech device is ever perfect and taxes always increase.
If you expect anything different you will always be disappointed.
That being said, I had ANdroid phones since the HTC Eris and they keep improving. S3 is really nice, maybe the best of this generation, but its not perfect.
Lots of people are looking for infinite gaming speed + infinite battery life... well the two don't go together. There are always trade-off. speed vs. power, vs. size, vs. cost.
Oh and by the way, multi-core is mostly a marketing gimmick. The GPU does most of the graphics work and most apps are not multi-threaded, so a fast single core beats a slower multi-core every time. It's cheaper to make a slow multi-core processor than to make a faster single core.
I also noticed lag on the device which i put off was caused by Touch Wiz. I confirmed this when i finally rooted and started trying different ROMs.
The lag is there in all TW ROM's for me; however if you really want to stick with TW, the smoothest running TW ROM I've tried so far is Goodness. That is what i'm currently using. I don't experience lag during gaming or Apps though even with touch wiz... so might be just your phone.
However, if you can do without touchwiz, the AOSP ROMs are like butter and i experience no lag at all. At least the 4.2.2 ROMS. I've tried Liquidsmooth, paranoid android, Pac-man and Chameleon.
Crazy I'm 100 % stock and my phone runs awesome! I don't do much gaming so I can't chime in on that but I don't have lag at all like you describe. Do you have a live wallpaper installed??
Sent from my GeeEssThree
I've tried a lot of the TW based ROM, Synergy, Hyperdrive , others and all the well developed one's run great for me. I don't see any lag. I also tried CM10 and no noticeable difference, I think a lot of the comment are caused by placebo effec, some people just hate OEM stufft. Also people will load up their home screens with 3000 widgets and say wow this phone / rom sucks, LOL m Then they load some new ROM with no widgets yet and go, wow this is really smooth....... until they load 3000 widgets and it sucks again. Hey , there really is a limit to performance on any phone.

[Q] Asphalt 8 lags?

Anyone tried asphalt 8 yet?
Mine lags even on lowest setting in the display option.
I've seen a video on youtube about a guy running it smoothly.
I've tried ARHD and Hyperdrive ROM, both lags.
Would it be better on CM or AOKP roms?
I have stock android on my note 10.1, and there is no lag at all. It runs smoothly.
Maybe you have lots of things running causing slowdown... try and clear ram before u start the game maybe.
