[Q] any tf300t owners upgrade? - Asus Transformer TF700

I recently just bought the 300 and am pretty disappointed with it's performance. I'm running cm10 stable and it lags a lot for being a quad core.
I'm thinking of selling and purchasing the 700 as it's quadrant scores and YouTube reviews seem to be really great.
What about you guys who actually own one? What are your opinions? I'm a little worried about shelling out almost 500 for a tablet.. but I could sell some other things as well. But before I do I was wondering what your guys opinions are.
Personally I feel as if the performance issues are related to lack of kernel support. I feel once someone finally builds a cm kernel my experience will improve. But then again I may be wrong entirely. So please share your thoughts

Unlock and install CROMI for the TF300. Then tell me performance is poor. You'll get near TF700 performance but with the lower definition screen. Only update to the TF700 if you want a much better screen. I suspect you would also be disappointed with stock TF700 performance as well.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm a huge cm fan though. Lol. I'm actually liking cm10 now after a fresh install.
So I'm right in assuming the only difference in the tf300t and tf700 is the screen resolution?

The "lag" after ICS comes out

I've read many reviews of people who say that the Atrix 2 is "slightly laggy." I'm sure that after ICS comes out which will enable hardware graphical acceleration, that lag will be pretty much gone. The phone will be much smoother with ICS. What do you guys think?
What lag? o.o My phone hasn't stuttered at all even in games.

ICS performance on the Galaxy Nexus should be an excellent indication of how it will run on the Atrix 2, as its chipset is the same one used in the Galaxy Nexus, except for lower clock speed. GPU performance between the two is expected to be quite close even though the Atrix 2's SGX 540 has an 84 MHZ disadvantage because it doesn't have to render at higher resolution.
I agree with Kori, my phone has 0 lag even when downloading multiple apps and constant texting as well as syncing

LOL what lag are you talking about? Zero lag here.
Somebodys lying to you then cause my A2 doesnt lag at all

It is funny that A2 has such a nice review from everyone, but not many peoples are actually getting it.
+1. For $99 its an unbelievable steal as far as what you get for your money.

I think thats due to a few reasons
1. It came on the coattails of the iP4
2. It got no marketing push and isnt even avail. at all AT&T stores
3. It has just a few upgrades over the OG Atrix
4. It came just before two overhyped devices, the RAZR and Nexus
I think the combination of people not knowing about it, the timing of its release and the release of two heavily marketed devices has paralyzed the market for the A2.....and a locked bootloader doesnt help at all.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
There really isn't much lag except with some ****ty apps that are badly coded/not optimized yet. Really though, the Atrix 2 runs quite well.
Glad to hear that you guys have no lag on your A2s. I'm just repeating what I read. Some have reported it as laggy compared to the GS2.
For the price ($50 on Amazon), this phone is a steal. I'll be getting it next month. Really looking forward to ICS!
No lag here, smooth as silk compared to other Android phones and especially my OG Atrix.
Honestly, I don't know what all the lag statements are about. I guess if I switched screens at a rapid pace continually it might lag once but who uses their phone like that?
I don't see much lag at all...there is an occasional slight stutter, but every android phone does that at some point.
Everyone with a GS2 just wants to talk smack on the Atrix 2, bro. I tried the GS2 and I'm glad I made the decision to go with the Atrix 2.
I think the GS2 is a nice device but I just didnt think it was $150 better than the Atrix 2
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
Also i think another advantage vs GS2 is that the omap 4 series cpu are using duel channel memory controller. I think this is one of the reason that A2 doesn't have lag issue.

Xoom Family edition ???

Just got this thing as it was pretty cheap..
and specs are the same as my regular xoom, but I'm wondering why its so different than the normal xoom in terms of software upgrades and so on.
I was thinking it would have an upgrade for ICS as honeycomb is F-ing HORRIBLE!!!
Is there any thing out there for rooting? roms
or are all the xooms that different ?
Thanks
lol, never mind.. Going to return and keep my regular xoom..
Seems to be a ton of roms and goodies for the normal xoom, and ZERO for the family edition
I got a xoom FE, not realizing the difference until I came to this forum and found out all I could do is root it. I sold it on ebay and got the regular xoom model. By the way, Motorola said they will upgrade the FE to ICS sometime this year.
Yea I read that, but to be honest, the normal xoom IMO has a much better feel to it.. It feels solid and tough
The way a tablet IMO should feel.. Its fast as heck, smooth and has 32gb on board..

Tablets

Because I respect the Glacier community so much I pose this topic here.
I'm looking to find a cheap, maybe older, tablet to root and pimp like we have for our phone.
It will mainly be used for presentation purposes...video, slide shows, etc.
All ideas are welcomed, thank you.

I disagree. A refurbished Motorola Xoom might be the best bang for the buck you can get. Newegg had NEW Xoom tablets for just 300$ last weekend.

Both of these tablets would do. Honestly, I'd side with THEindian right now. iPad is a great device, and you'd be able to enjoy the best of both worlds with Android and iOS
Thanks all. I guess I should have really been specific in that I'm only considering Android due to rootability.....and I dislike the iMachine.

I have a tf101. Asus makes some beastly tabs but they have bugs and stuff. Like the stock ics firmware causes SoDs but there's an awesome italian kernel dev named guevor that pretty much fixed it and its basically his job working on the kernel.
I've heard the Acer tabs are alright, I saw an A200 for 200 somewhere. There's also a new Acer tab with a 1080p screen coming out soon for 450 and there's also the Asus tf700 coming out that's an ipad 3 killer in the benchmarks.
But if you want to be cheap like me, get a tegra 2 tab. The application of the tegra 3 processing power isn't a huge thing at the moment.

It really depends on your price range. I am gonna make a last pitch for the ipad, it is iOS but you can jailbreak it an stuff. It has WAY better apps and more that are optimized for the screen. I was at the best buy mobile and i could barely figure out how to use the android tablet. You have an issue if the kernel dev can't navigate through the OS to find the settings button. Anyway, if you are dead set on android, google is expected to release a $200 dollar nexus tablet built by asus w/ tegra 3. That will probably be your best bet.

Yeah, been reading up on tabs all day and found some info on the nexus. I wish some details would be released on what kind of functionality it will have, but the price is definitely right along with processing power. I can live without a camera, but GPS might be nice to have in a 7" tablet. Hopefully the info goes viral after I/O next weekend....and ordering one doesn't require a lottery.
Anyone have any experience with the Dell Streak? I've found very mixed reviews out there. Super poor reviews on the Lenovo and Vizio. Seems Samsung, Acer, and Asus have best reviews and fair pricing on 7" tabs...I'm trying to stay under $250, goal being under $200.
I really just can't support anything i, even though I know the products are nice and jailbreakable. I bleed Android for better or worse. Started with a G1, had original chrome beta, and except for Wave and Drive failing, I have never been disappointed by anything g. I've talked and fought so much against iSheep and the iMachine I might get crucified if I showed up with an iPad ;-)

i got a Dell Streak 7, if you want my honest opinion, it's bad. the battery life sucks on this thing, and it took me a whole day just to upgrade to honeycomb. and they literally have NO development support AT ALL and worst of all, the thing comes with a Tegra 2 processor but only 512 MB of RAM. WTF
IMO, Dell tablets aren't worth it.
my dad has an Acer A500 (10 inch) and a friend of mine has the Acer A100 (7 inch). Acer is okay i guess, much better than Dell, but occasional lag on both devices. not sure if it's because of the way my dad and friend uses them, but battery life on the A100 is bad as well. A500 is okay, about 2 days moderate usage.
i think you should either wait for the Nexus or go for ASUS. i hear great things about those tablets, and they seem very great as well. and they've got HUGE development going on over there.

For the best value for your money, I'd suggest the Skypad A2. For just over $100, you get 7" ICS ready tablet, pre-rooted, with HDMI out. How many sub- $200 tablets can boast that? There are a couple of great reviews on Amazon and a handful of custom ROMs.
If you're looking for value, I'd recommend it. I've had no issues and loved it so far. If you're willing to spend the extra couple hundred, you can do much better.

Yes, the screen resolution and ram seem to be the biggest limiting factor for price. the Asus nexus looks to change this however with serious processing/ram power and a decent screen for ~$200....so the hype talk says. We'll see what happens after I/O this weekend. Bit I agree, for me 1Gb ram will likely be mandatory for good presentations.

Yes, low RAM, but if you're looking for value, how important is that? The 1.2 GHz processor does great with it, and I've regularly used PSX4Droid with no issues. I can't think of anything more processor intensive than that.
It's all about what you need/want. Personally, I'd much rather have the HDMI out and ICS over a nook.

Is that 1.2 single core? What about screen res?
I believe everything should still run smooth on devices with specs similar to those as this phone can too.
I bought fpse, and it actually runs smoother on this tablet if i enable it to use only one core. Lol

Yes, it's a single core. The res is average at best, since it's a 7" WVGA (800x480). It's pretty necessary to use the HDMI out, which gives full 1080p res.
There is no way it can compare to more expensive tablets, but it's something I could throw away tomorrow and not feel bad about losing.

Xoom v Nexus 7?

I was going to get a Nexus 7, but after reading about all the defects/faults I decided not to.
I saw a Xoom for £190, 32GB Version.
How are these tablets? Can they run ICS good? Is the gaming performance and general smoothness good? Can play 1080p?
Thanks

To be very honest, all your questions are clearly answered here already just from searching for 5 min... and you will also find that many of us have passed on ICS and are now running Jelly Bean.
Do you want to run Jellybean? There's an EOS Rom for that. Check out Team EOS Jellybean for your (potential) device in the Development section.

typically 10inch in display diameter (for version 1 Xoom), round egded and 16:9 display ratio. it has a Motorola title on the front to not get sued for copying ipad design. Search specs on the internet. Overall its a 1+year old tablet and technically in the mid-life. It is a great compromise in what-you-pay-and-what-you-get.

Apples to oranges in my opinion.
One is a 7" tablet and one is a 10" tablet. In my experience, they serve different purposes.

Not really, more like big brother and little brother. the next motorola xoom will be a true nexus experience because of google ownership, it will have what the 7'' do not have, i don't think google buy motorola to see it fail, the original xoom is still at the top of the food chain in google eyes...
You didn't address what I said at all.
My point is that the 7" form factor is quite different from the 10" form factor. I've owned a 7" tablet though. Having a 4.65" phone and a 10" tablet makes the 7" form factor rather redundant and simply not something for my needs.
Thus back to my original statement, the two form factor serve different purposes/needs. One of the first questions I ask someone when they say "I'm thinking about a tablet" is "what size do you think you'd want?"
it will have what the 7'' do not have

No, its really not. We all may love the Xoom, but it was, unfortunately, not the success that Google hoped for. Bad marketing, stupid prices, a stupid promise for 4G that took far too long and beta software (lol Honeycomb) gave the Xoom a really bad name on top of its poor sales.
The Nexus 7's success to date is what Google hoped for in the Xoom.
I have both...here is what I notice:
The n7 (duh) is much faster. much much faster.
The screen resolution on the xoom looks much grainier compared to the n7 (or compared to my GN). It bothers me at some level, but I can live with it.
I use the N7 as a handheld device most of the time, and the xoom stood up in the trifold case.
Did I mention the n7 feels a lot faster?
oh---and the development of the n7 is SIGNIFICANTLY more active than on the xoom (as you would expect from both a nexus device and from a much larger user base).
That is all.

The screen of the Xoom is probably its worst quality. The GN is absolutely beautiful, haven't seen an N7 yet so can't comment.
Thats one of the few things I'm jealous of the Xoom2/Xyboard for. It has the IPS display the Xoom should have had :crying:

I have both as well, and I agree that they serve different purposes...Nexus 7 is very easy to hold andcarry around. My Xoom contains my life (loads of apps, lots of productivity-related stuff), and I'm keeping most of my apps off of the 16 gb Nexus 7, just cloud/streaming apps and root tools. But both are running virtually the same software, and despite its age and 2X core vs 4/5X core of N7, Xoom is pretty fast. Where it differs is in some of the benchmarks...I never got much higher than mid 20s fps in Nenamark 2 with Xoom, but N7 got 60.8 fps today!
Yes there's some good original development for N7, it's a new device...and our Team EOS is right there with the best new rom.
I have both as well, and I have to admit I use the nexus 7 more, as it is lighter and smaller. The screen is better on the nexus 7, but I deffinitely can not agree that it feels way faster. I am currently running the official jelly bean update from Google on my Xoom, and in most aspects, The Xoom feels just as fast. Yes, the nexus 7 definitely does out do the Xoom by huge amounts in benchmarks, but this does not translate into true user performance. Even my nexus s can run jelly bean, and feel "buttery" smooth, and it has a single core, and half a gig of ram. A quad core processor for android is good for 2 things, highly process intensive games, and marketing.
If this helped, or you just appreciate me spending my time to right this, then please give me a thanks:good:
I have both, both running EOS 3 most of the time. The 7 is smaller, faster and stronger basically, but that doesn't make the Xoom a bad tablet by any means.

Should I trade up to the A700

Hi all.
I have a 1 month old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10", and the opportunity to trade it for a brand new a700 at Future Shop thanks to black Friday. I HAVE to decide today.
Is this a no brainer "do it" or should I be careful?
I know its got a faster processor, and higher resolution but that doesn't necessarily make it a better device.
I've read that it heats up to much and that it lags/freezes often.
I would want to root it and install a CM10 BASED ROM, but I've also read that cm10 isn't working well on it.
Any advice would really be appreciated because I only have 4 more hours to decide.
Thanks!

I have previously owned many phones that run android, currently own an LG Nexus 4, and have also owned the Touchpad, A500, TF300, Tab, Lenovo A100 among others. This is by far my favorite tablet thus far. The only thing I miss from my other devices (tablets) is the USB port on the A500. I find CM10 made it very responsive and snappy - it no longer lags or overheats like it did on stock.
Also, if you bought from FS, verify you arent in the holiday return period. You can return stuff until January if you are in that period.

Thanks Sean. I did get it and I'm really happy. Especially since I got it for only $349.00
