Hey ho everyone. I have a problem with my Atrix 2 that I have tried to solve myself, but failed. I have searched this fourm to look for my problem, so if there is one, just post it and throw some tomatoes at me.
But anyway, my problem. For some odd reason, my phone likes to awake to its looked screen. I have noticed that every time this happens, my bars drop and then come back after four to five seconds. This happens while the phone is even sitting still. Heres the sequence that happens from my top bar:
Bars at whatever > Bars with circle-cross through it, AT&T icon at the top left dissapears > Red triangle with white plus sign > Back to half bars > Then back to where it was before > AT&T sign comes back two seconds later
This all happens in about 4-5 seconds. It causes my screen lock to stay on for five minutes and drains my battery. If its charging then its just annoying. But when I have it in my pocket, I pull it out with the screen lock on and the machine is hot as hell.
Now here are some things about my phone. It is rooted, stock ICS OTA, the battery is almost dead due to charging with an USB OTG cable for two months (need to get a new one basically), 32gb micro-SDcard. I had this problem about three months ago, so I factory reseated the phone and got it back to its full functionality (got all the apps back, etc). And it just started again last night.
If anyone has any help, it would be gratefully appreciated. I don't want to have to take it back to AT&T just for them to find it rooted and render it unsupported. Thanks guys, later.
Edit: look at my last post for a solution to this problem.

Ok, I've done some looking around and I wonder if I'm on the right track. Are you talking about some of the info listed here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966172
If so, I downloaded an app called LTE OnOFF and decided to make the "GSM auto (PRL)" selection. Is this what you were talking about? Thanks for your help man.

Yeah man, check this out. So I bought this ****ty five port USB hub for $5 online cause a guy said it worked for his Atrix 2. So I got it and it didn't have a power supply. The Atrix 2 alone couldn't power it. I discovered that by plugging in a USB cable into one of the ports that the other into a USB wall plug would power it and my Atrix would read my external hard drive. And it charged it. Perfect! Two months later, my battery life just drained. For an hour drive to school, what playing music took 10% away took 30%. Its stupid. So I have been charging using the cable that came with my phone ever since. Have you ever heard of something like that before?
Off topic I know, but thanks for your help. Later.

Well I have done some experimenting all day but the problem still protists no matter what I set the preferred network type at. I have found that by pressing the menu button and selecting "Select radio band" takes me to a "Set GSM/UMTS band" menu. But the only selection it gives me is an "Automatic" selection. Am I even on the right track? Thanks again for your help dude.
Since we have been talking about data, I decided to turn off my data transfer. I went a whole 30 minutes without it going off. So it does seem to be something with my data transfer. Do any of you have any more suggestions before I call AT&T for customer service? Thanks.
If anyone is still listening or if anyone needs a solution, I found it. Once I narrowed my search on my data usage, I started looking at the programs that used the most 4G and wifi on my phone. I uninstalled four apps and it stopped. I have been slowly installing them back on, and have come to the conclusion that a program called aDownloader was causing the problem. Its a bittorrent downloading program that I use on my phone.
So if anyone finds this with this same problem, start looking around at what uses the most data usage, uninstall those apps, and see what happens. Hope this helps people. Anyway, later.

I've been having two major issues with my tablet, and while they seem to be related to some thing others are talking about, they are not quite the same.
1) I have never been unable to wake my device. However, sometimes when I do wake it, the touchscreen is completely non-responsive so I can't even unlock the device. I have to power down by holding the power button until it shuts off, and then power back on.
2) A REALLY strange wi-fi bug. I set my wi-fi to never disconnect to test if this would still happen, and it does. Often times I will wake the device, and it will say disconnected from wi-fi. I go into settings, under wi-fi, and it says "wi-fi turning off" as if it were in progress (which it shouldn't be doing anyway since I set it to never disconnect). It will sit there and do nothing, and I can't tell it to stop trying to turn off the wi-fi. Again, I have to reboot to do anything.
Anyone else with these REALLY annoying issues?
Seems like more people are having the touchscreen problem. Mine is totally dead. I've rebooted 20+ times. It's been two days now, still no luck.

Yea I saw a couple others who reported that just now, but seems like mostly the black screen on wake problems prevail.
I'm having the WiFi issue. If the tablet is in standby for a length of time (usually longer than an hour) I have to disable the WiFi in settings and then re-enable it to get it to reconnect.

I can't even disable it in settings. It is grayed out and says "turning off wi-fi" and pressing it does nothing. Like it's irreversibly stuck in that status until I reboot.

Ah yea I've had this happen to me too several times. In general the transformer wifi radio seems pretty weak. In my bedroom upstairs where my laptop, iphone, ps3, wifes ipad all get perfect wifi signal, the transformer is getting 1 bar at best. Youtube is totally unusable there.

I too have been exhibiting touchscreen issues. I have found that by ever so lightly twisting the TF I can get it to work. It is going back to Micro Center tomorrow. I only hope the one I sent my dad doesn't begin acting up, as he there isn't a Micro Center near him in Florida. He will be forced to RMA it with Asus. I don't believe they will charge a restocking fee on a broken item. Hopefully I will be able to find a new one soon.
Sold my Transformer for the price that i paid for, sick of putting up with it. Had a few issues like camera , touch screen problem, crashing while playing game....etc... i will buy it again later when demand dies down and quality improves. Good luck with yours.
mine doesn't have these problems...i think the stability of its wifi connection is better than my milestone...

I normally don't have this problem. But yesterday I left the device on for a night and in the morning I wasn't able to wake it, had to do hard reboot.
Hi I'm wondering if anyones come across this problem where the Tab turns itself off. After serveral attempts to turn it back on it wont. Only way is to plug the power plug in and then turn it on, the battery is on about 80% charged so there it has nothing to do with flat battery.
Before I plugged it into the power plug it seemed to be hotter at the back than usual. Its not overloading itself out is it??
Its happened a few times but nothing major just strange.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
It was on stock P6800XXKL1 but moved up to stock P6800XXLA3 both had the same problem before.
i have the P6810 completely stock and have seen this once
Does it go through shutdown sequence or just instantly lose power?
Try charging it for a few hours with it turned off?

random turn off Galaxy tab p6800 7.7
I have a stock 7.7 and there have been a number of times when i find it is off OR not responding immediately to the power switch when i pick it up to use it. Ie power switch doesnt turn on screen. I assume it has shut down.
Battery is full.
bluetooth, Gps & packet data off, Wifi on.
I have to hold the power button down for prox 30 sec and ot starts up and goes through normal boot up. I dont know whats causing this either.
On this device, what does "Off" mean? If you press the power switch, does it really turn off,
or is it suspended?
I.E., does it go through a boot process when you turn it on, or does the screen just come on?
This looks like the sleep of death also happening with the Tab7.7 as well as on the Galaxy Note.
What does off mean

From the manual:
To turn on your device, press and hold the Power key. If you
turn on your device for the first time, follow the on-screen
instructions to set up your device.
To turn off your device, press and hold the Power key and
select Power off → OK.
It goes through the boot sequence.
I bought this tab 2 weeks ago and it's happened about 4 or 5 times now. Basically I'll put it in sleep or standby or whatever you would like to call it. Then when I go to press the Power button again I'll find that the screen won't turn back on and I'll have to hold it and turn it back on as if it were off. This whole turning off automatically thing isn't as bad as it was on the Toshiba Thrive I had but still, it shouldn't be there. Especially for a what I suppose is a premium product like this, I mean around $500 AU isn't just a little bit of money.
Sorry if I sound kind of negative but I hope this gets patched or something, Toshiba took a good 3 months to patch the Thrive along with upgrading it to 3.1, lets hope the 7.7 doesn't take that long.
One of the main reasons I got this was that I trusted Samsung for support, not just for ICS but for updates and customer support as well.
Try replacing the launcher. TW sucks big time.

I was thinking I'm the only one had this problem.
The device looks dead/unresponsive instead of turned off. I've to hold the power button for 15 sec or longer to force reboot.
Another thing I've found is 7.7 seems to work well without SIM card installed, no such issue happened for days, but it happens much more frequently with SIM card inside, i.e. twice a day.
I assumed this may relate to 3G module/driver/baseband/etc, until now someone said it also happened on P6810.
Could it be a software or hardward glitch?
looks like sleep of death similar to 7+, also exynos.

I'm pretty sure it's a software glitch. In the Toshiba Thrive, it could be patched. They don't sell the 3G variant here in Aus so I wouldn't know if 3G affected the frequency of it lol.

same for me on GTP6810
this is SOD as I got on my Nook Color with cyanogenmod ROM ...
after I installed ADW Launcher Ex no more SOD ... not sure is related to the launcher ... I'll edit this post if I get SOD with ADW
EDIT: just got SOD
have you guys tried to turn off wifi when the tab goes into sleep mode in the settings?
My sim card not detected im only able to used it for several hour. And the last attempt after restarting for several time the device able to detected it but for only 10-15 minutes then sim card removed notification appear while the sim card is still in there. This really piss me off.bcoz i just bought this device.
Anyone come across this? I put it on standby last night after reading a bit of my book on it, and it had around 50% power remaining. This morning, it was totally unresponsive; pressing the power button does nothing at all. I've charged it for 12 hours in the meantime.
I've done the following all with and without the power attached:
- Pressed and held power for 15 seconds through to a minute
- Pressed and held volume up with power to attempt to get into recovery for up to a minute
- Pressed and held volume down with powerfor up to a minute
- Pressed and held power while touching screen (read that one off another forum)
I guess potentially it could be on and in a crashed state and unresponsive to the power, so maybe in a weeks time when it runs out of juice, I'll be able to charge it and power it back up, but in the meantime, I'd welcome suggestions.
A few weeks ago I updated it to the official ICS build that was released, but did the update myself rather than using KIES, as KIES didn't even recognise my Tab's firmware original version. It's been absolutely fine before the update, and since. I only mention it because I've read about the Samsung build of ICS being prone to self bricking itself, but I couldn't determine what the symptoms of this vulnerability were.
Thanks for any help offered,
Will
did you try connecting USB cable and plugging it into your PC? did u get any activity? can ADB recognize your tab?
I think your tab just ran out of juice and the battery's protection circuit has kicked in. Try taking it to an electronic shop and plugging in different chargers preferably one with an output more than 2.1 amps to kickstart the charging. Plug it in and wait till the charging animation starts.

Had the same problem while on holidays. Once the battery goes below a certain level, you won't be able to charge it through USB any more. Instead you need to use the wall charger.
I think it's bad enough that the 7.7 doesn't have a micro USB port, but things like that are just stupid and Samsung made a big mistake here. It don't think it's the same with the newer tablets though. It's also not possible to just buy cables or chargers for this strange Samsung port, so when you forget your wall charger at home at some point you won't be able to use your tablet any more.
As long as you charge with the USB cable early enough, you can avoid it though.
A few months ago I experienced the same thing, the Tab just wouldn't turn on anymore.
I tried all there is without any luck.
Contacted amazon and they replaced it with a new one in less than 48 hours.
So far not Problems with the new device.
I have the P6800 and this morning I took it off charge. Put it into standby and only used it for about 20 mins then left in standby all day. It had about 95% remaining when I did so.
Picked it up this evening and the lower left area of the screen was warm and it would not switch on. Didn't think of the ADB idea but will try this next time but I had to reset it and when it powered on tonight after the reset, it was down to 15%. Within about 2 mins of checking stuff it was down to 3%.
Something is running when it is in standby but as I can't switch it on I can't check with BetterBatteryStats or CPUState to know what is wrong.
It does this every day. I am tempted to do a factory reset and reinstall only limited software.
Dave...
I see this thread is a little old but this has just happened to my P6810 too. A pity nobody reported back what the end result was.
My device had at least 95% battery last night but today I can't get it to respond at all, I've tried the wall charger and still nothing.
Anything else someone could suggest for me?
Edit. I tried getting anything from it connected to my PC but it couldn't find a device there. However I then tried it on the wall charger again and now get a blue battery icon, quite big, with a five step animation indicating that it is charging.
No idea how it went flat as the battery on this lasts a long time assuming the screen isn't on. When it boots properly I'll have a look at what the most recent apps I installed were as it has only done this once. Before this it has been perfect for the three weeks I've had it.

hhmmm, interesting.
I was having trouble with wifi just before this happened. Both my GS2 and this have been claiming to connect to my wifi but aren't actually getting an IP address from it.
I can't remember if it was last night or the night before but I manually set an IP address, the signal strength is fine as my abode isn't very big.
After it has recharged I'll have a poke and see what I can find, thanks for the reply.
So my device seems to be working fine again. It had gone SO flat that the date and time were incorrect!
After I could power it on I had a look at Better Battery Stats and nothing looked wrong so I have no idea what happened. None of the apps I'd installed the day before it played up had long wakelocks and weren't running when I turned it off.
For reference they were:
My Tracks
MyTrails
Google Earth
AndSMB
I'd turned both of the GPS tracking devices off before I turned it off for the night.
It hasn't played up since but it hasn't been long so I'll see what happens.
Yeah, the sleep of death is incredibly annoying. Honestly, the GTab 7.7 is a **** device. Samsung made way too many mistakes and won't do anything to fix it.
A similar thing happens to me every once in awhile. The way i check to make sure everything alright is to see if it boots into download mode. I just leave it plugged in for a couple hours and it eventually comes back on.

Unbelievable! ... this trick still works ... thank you very much for you help ...
^^ yo, this 'trickle charge' trick did NOT work on my (long) dead P6800... any other suggestions??
Quite strange because my Samsung GT-P6800 tablet was fully charged, it went completely blank dark as if it was off. To my amazement, SMS keeps dropping and calls kept coming in. Yet it is still as blank as though the tab was off. I pressed the power button and the volume up bottom for it to reboot. It rebooted without the screen coming up. It has been blank for two days now. What could be the cause? And what possible solution can be given?
Hey guys,
So I have scoured a couple forums now looking to see if this has happened to anyone else.
About a week ago I dropped my phone. It wasn't a bad drop (missed my pocket, the ground on an edge), but when I picked it up the device wouldn't turn on at all. Since it was out of warantee, I decided to watch a couple assembly vids on youtube and took it apart to pop the battery (I do have moderate knowledge of electronic assembly/repair). I put it back together and voila! it booted up fine.
The problem is that it seems that every few days (2-4 days) I have to do pop the phone open, take out the screws needed, disconnect the battery and boot phone.
I am curious if anyone else has happened to have this happen? or do you think that the phone just might be toast?
V.
It seems to me like there's still something physically wrong with the phone. You know you can simulate a battery pull without having to open the phone up right? Just hold the power button for like 15 seconds.

apparently, i did not =).
And that is my thought too. Shame.
I did try that before (holding the power for up to 1m, just to try it out). I will try that out next time it dumps on me and see if that does it.
Thanks Timmaaa.

If that doesn't work, it could be the power connection that's faulty, or the battery connection itself. I'd open it up and check every cable/connection in the device.

Just wanted to provide an update.
I havent had another issue with the phone. The last time I opened it up, I disconnected the entire phone and rebuilt it, really.
For the rebuild, I used a video off of youtube (cannot post the link. Just goto youtube and search HTC one X assembly)

Hello friends. Having lots of issues with my tablet.
A while ago i noticed that my tablet was running a bit sluggish, and the brightness of the screen was flickering when on auto-brightness. I didn't think anything of it, but the next morning when I unplugged it after it was charging all night, it was at 30% after a few minutes. Every time I plugged it in it would say "charged", but a few seconds after I unplugged it it would go back to 30%. It's gotten to the point where I can't use it because it won't turn on. It's plugged in, but I press the power button and the screen lights up for a half second and then dies (i'm assuming).
I've tried other cables, etc, anyone have any ideas? I haven't been able to use my tablet the past 2 days because of this.
Sounds like it's time to RMA...

Was afraid of this...Kinda was hoping it would be a software issue
Think they'll care if I rooted it?
Rooting it would not cause this and I'd get in to a massive argument with anyone that claimed otherwise.

Mine also was having the same issue. I searched high and low for a fix and finally came across a thread here on XDA that suggested deleting a corrupted jpg image that is created by the default camera 'Camera Awesome'. The corrupt jpg image sends the media scanner into an endless loop that taxes the CPU nonstop. The folder location is Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome. I would delete any subfolders also. Hope this does the trick for you. Another tip is to stop the Blake_wakelock wakelock created by the Shield Wireless Controller which drains your Wi-Fi continually. Download the 'Disable Service' app from the google play store and once it is installed scroll over to the system apps and long click the 'SHIELD Wireless Controller Service'. From there you can disable the 'BlakeManagerService'. You can always turn it back on if and when you need to use it but that will stop your wakelocks for now. Hope everything works out for you. I was having the same trouble as you but was determined to figure it out as I did not want to send mine back cause it is my first tablet and has a lot of potential. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem is I can't get it to turn on at all. Oh well, my replacement has already shipped and gets here Monday

Mine was working fine for 4 days. Set it down then went to power on to read book and nothing. I take it I have no recourse but to call Newegg and RMA?
