Hello friends. Having lots of issues with my tablet.
A while ago i noticed that my tablet was running a bit sluggish, and the brightness of the screen was flickering when on auto-brightness. I didn't think anything of it, but the next morning when I unplugged it after it was charging all night, it was at 30% after a few minutes. Every time I plugged it in it would say "charged", but a few seconds after I unplugged it it would go back to 30%. It's gotten to the point where I can't use it because it won't turn on. It's plugged in, but I press the power button and the screen lights up for a half second and then dies (i'm assuming).
I've tried other cables, etc, anyone have any ideas? I haven't been able to use my tablet the past 2 days because of this.
Sounds like it's time to RMA...

Was afraid of this...Kinda was hoping it would be a software issue
Think they'll care if I rooted it?
Rooting it would not cause this and I'd get in to a massive argument with anyone that claimed otherwise.

Mine also was having the same issue. I searched high and low for a fix and finally came across a thread here on XDA that suggested deleting a corrupted jpg image that is created by the default camera 'Camera Awesome'. The corrupt jpg image sends the media scanner into an endless loop that taxes the CPU nonstop. The folder location is Android/data/com.smugmug.android.cameraawesome. I would delete any subfolders also. Hope this does the trick for you. Another tip is to stop the Blake_wakelock wakelock created by the Shield Wireless Controller which drains your Wi-Fi continually. Download the 'Disable Service' app from the google play store and once it is installed scroll over to the system apps and long click the 'SHIELD Wireless Controller Service'. From there you can disable the 'BlakeManagerService'. You can always turn it back on if and when you need to use it but that will stop your wakelocks for now. Hope everything works out for you. I was having the same trouble as you but was determined to figure it out as I did not want to send mine back cause it is my first tablet and has a lot of potential. Let me know how it goes.
Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem is I can't get it to turn on at all. Oh well, my replacement has already shipped and gets here Monday
Mine as well
Mine was working fine for 4 days. Set it down then went to power on to read book and nothing. I take it I have no recourse but to call Newegg and RMA?

So I got my TF101 from MacMall on the eBay deal of the day yesterday and out of the box put it on the adapter. Once it was charged past 50% I ran the 3.2 update which completed without issues. Then I let it continue charging to 100% and took it off the charger and played with it briefly. Put it back in the box and carried it around for the rest of the day waiting to have a chance to use it/play with it but client needs came first. Get home that night (~6 hours since I removed it from the charger) and nothing. Black screen with nothing displayed in response to very long press of power button. Vol + and power = nothing. Figure that the battery is dead (crappy) and I will have to wait until the office in the morning to charge it since I left the block and cable there. Get to office this morning and put it on the charger and nothing still - no light to show charging and device does not turn on. Call ASUS support and after getting relative details and discussing situation it turns on fine for me (after I had tried for 15+ minutes) after disconnecting from charging block. I put it down to weirdness and move on. Now at home fully charged it is doing the same crap.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Since updating to 3.2 my battery life is really bad too... Used to get a couple of days out of the tab and dock with frequent use... now it lasts maybe a day with barley any use.

Hi brando56894, do you know if this "sleep of death" is a problem with the 3.2 update? The post's in this thread are from members with new vanilla 3.1 Transformers.
My Transformer will arrive in a few days, I just want to avoid any pitfalls because the Transformer is a gift for my girlfriend. She is not a techie, and I would like her to love and use this ANDROID beauty.
Many thanks, Anil.

OK - thanks for the identification of the problem and a thread on what is being done to research/resolve.
hey guys i just got my transformer today. a couple of times i shut it off and when i try to turn it back on it wont work unless i plug it in, even though the battery is above 90%
I have a very similar issue.
I have the B40 model, when I shut down, I can't turn back on. I have been leaving my TF on all day then just shut down at night and when I come to turn on in the morning, iit is fine. Today I had to restart due to wifi constantly saying it was turning off for no reason, upon shutting down, it wouldn't power back up. I hav left it for approx 1 and a half hours, still nothing. Doesn't make any difference if it is plugged in or not. My battery is full.
Really could do with some help with this issue, as it is really spoiling what I regard as a brilliant device.

Once you plug it in and it come on, does it stay on when you take the charger off?
Once on and you hit the power button does it do anything?
You might have a faulty power button IMO.
I don't know about Krueger, but mine doesn't do anything when you plug it in. I have to wait a few hours. When I last shutdown, I was trying to restart, it just never did. I had full charge. I can't even get into APX mode. My TF is stock unrooted. Power button works just fine when tablet is on, does exactly as it should.

I've seen reports of peoples getting this "deep sleep" and not able to turn it on easily. Not sure if there's a definite fix or not. Some peoples say they have good luck turning of the lock screen, some say they fixed it by factory resetting the tablet.

Cheers m8.
I will give this a try when I can turn it back on again. Its been approx 6 hrs now since I tried to restart it. I will have to wait till morning I think. When it has done it previously, I have left it on charge all night, even though there was more than half in it each time, and it seems to start up after about 7 - 10 seconds of holding the power button in.
Thanks again

So I have spent 15 mins listening to the back of the device while trying toturn on. From what I can hear it sounds like a quiet jet engine firing up for approx 1-1 and a quarter seconds then sounds like the jet engine turning off (I know this sounds wierd, but best way I can describe). Its almost like there isnt enough power to fire it all the way up. There also other noises going on even when I dont try and turn it on, so I don't think it is fully turned of. Maybe a deep sleep issue. I did notice on this occassion, befor I tried to restart that I had no internet connection and when I went to check wifi settings it said Wifi is turning off. I leave it set to default.
Thanks

Anyone come across this? I put it on standby last night after reading a bit of my book on it, and it had around 50% power remaining. This morning, it was totally unresponsive; pressing the power button does nothing at all. I've charged it for 12 hours in the meantime.
I've done the following all with and without the power attached:
- Pressed and held power for 15 seconds through to a minute
- Pressed and held volume up with power to attempt to get into recovery for up to a minute
- Pressed and held volume down with powerfor up to a minute
- Pressed and held power while touching screen (read that one off another forum)
I guess potentially it could be on and in a crashed state and unresponsive to the power, so maybe in a weeks time when it runs out of juice, I'll be able to charge it and power it back up, but in the meantime, I'd welcome suggestions.
A few weeks ago I updated it to the official ICS build that was released, but did the update myself rather than using KIES, as KIES didn't even recognise my Tab's firmware original version. It's been absolutely fine before the update, and since. I only mention it because I've read about the Samsung build of ICS being prone to self bricking itself, but I couldn't determine what the symptoms of this vulnerability were.
Thanks for any help offered,
Will
did you try connecting USB cable and plugging it into your PC? did u get any activity? can ADB recognize your tab?
I think your tab just ran out of juice and the battery's protection circuit has kicked in. Try taking it to an electronic shop and plugging in different chargers preferably one with an output more than 2.1 amps to kickstart the charging. Plug it in and wait till the charging animation starts.

Had the same problem while on holidays. Once the battery goes below a certain level, you won't be able to charge it through USB any more. Instead you need to use the wall charger.
I think it's bad enough that the 7.7 doesn't have a micro USB port, but things like that are just stupid and Samsung made a big mistake here. It don't think it's the same with the newer tablets though. It's also not possible to just buy cables or chargers for this strange Samsung port, so when you forget your wall charger at home at some point you won't be able to use your tablet any more.
As long as you charge with the USB cable early enough, you can avoid it though.
A few months ago I experienced the same thing, the Tab just wouldn't turn on anymore.
I tried all there is without any luck.
Contacted amazon and they replaced it with a new one in less than 48 hours.
So far not Problems with the new device.
I have the P6800 and this morning I took it off charge. Put it into standby and only used it for about 20 mins then left in standby all day. It had about 95% remaining when I did so.
Picked it up this evening and the lower left area of the screen was warm and it would not switch on. Didn't think of the ADB idea but will try this next time but I had to reset it and when it powered on tonight after the reset, it was down to 15%. Within about 2 mins of checking stuff it was down to 3%.
Something is running when it is in standby but as I can't switch it on I can't check with BetterBatteryStats or CPUState to know what is wrong.
It does this every day. I am tempted to do a factory reset and reinstall only limited software.
Dave...
I see this thread is a little old but this has just happened to my P6810 too. A pity nobody reported back what the end result was.
My device had at least 95% battery last night but today I can't get it to respond at all, I've tried the wall charger and still nothing.
Anything else someone could suggest for me?
Edit. I tried getting anything from it connected to my PC but it couldn't find a device there. However I then tried it on the wall charger again and now get a blue battery icon, quite big, with a five step animation indicating that it is charging.
No idea how it went flat as the battery on this lasts a long time assuming the screen isn't on. When it boots properly I'll have a look at what the most recent apps I installed were as it has only done this once. Before this it has been perfect for the three weeks I've had it.

hhmmm, interesting.
I was having trouble with wifi just before this happened. Both my GS2 and this have been claiming to connect to my wifi but aren't actually getting an IP address from it.
I can't remember if it was last night or the night before but I manually set an IP address, the signal strength is fine as my abode isn't very big.
After it has recharged I'll have a poke and see what I can find, thanks for the reply.
So my device seems to be working fine again. It had gone SO flat that the date and time were incorrect!
After I could power it on I had a look at Better Battery Stats and nothing looked wrong so I have no idea what happened. None of the apps I'd installed the day before it played up had long wakelocks and weren't running when I turned it off.
For reference they were:
My Tracks
MyTrails
Google Earth
AndSMB
I'd turned both of the GPS tracking devices off before I turned it off for the night.
It hasn't played up since but it hasn't been long so I'll see what happens.
Yeah, the sleep of death is incredibly annoying. Honestly, the GTab 7.7 is a **** device. Samsung made way too many mistakes and won't do anything to fix it.
A similar thing happens to me every once in awhile. The way i check to make sure everything alright is to see if it boots into download mode. I just leave it plugged in for a couple hours and it eventually comes back on.

this is why my 7.7 is the last tablet/phone from Samsung i'll never trust them they are just bombarding the market with new devices and leaving the old ones to dust
^thats what I thought too but that gs4 is really tempting. I've heard worse about HTC in that regard anyways so that why I'm not going with the one.
Finally.. i bought Sony xperia Z.
I'll sell my galaxy tab 7.7. I.m very disappointed with samsung.

Unbelievable! ... this trick still works ... thank you very much for you help ...
^^ yo, this 'trickle charge' trick did NOT work on my (long) dead P6800... any other suggestions??
Quite strange because my Samsung GT-P6800 tablet was fully charged, it went completely blank dark as if it was off. To my amazement, SMS keeps dropping and calls kept coming in. Yet it is still as blank as though the tab was off. I pressed the power button and the volume up bottom for it to reboot. It rebooted without the screen coming up. It has been blank for two days now. What could be the cause? And what possible solution can be given?
So I upgraded to JB via OTA yesterday with no problems. Today I'm reading an article on Chrome and the tablet screen shuts off and after a few seconds it looks like it's in the process of rebooting so I set it down and leave thinking it'll be booted up again when I come back but I was confused why it rebooted in the first place.
Anyways, about an hour and a half later I come back and my tablet is super heated to the point that it burns to touch it. The screen was blank but it looked like the backlight was on or something because it wasn't the same as if the screen was actually turned off. I held the power button down several seconds until it powered off and rebooted and then I set it down by my AC so that it could cool off. After a minute or so it booted up like normal to the main screen and it showed that the battery had drained from 95% when it first happened to 37% so it was obviously stuck doing something very CPU intensive during that hour and a half.
Does anyone have a clue what happened and if I should do something? I just bought this tablet from Best Buy yesterday without their additional warranty but should I either take it back there or possibly contact ASUS of a replacement or something? I know how bad that kind of heat is for computer components and it bothers me it was like that even for 1.5 hours. Also my tablet has not been rooted so it was completely stock save for the few apps I've installed so far.
Thanks in advance!
Had the exact same thing happen to mine about a month ago. Was worried afterwards that the excessive heat would have caused damage but so far have not seen any ill effects.

I would just take it back. Doesn't seems normal at all!
Ok well I feel a little bit better that I'm not the only one to experience this problem. It makes me nervous that this happened so I'll probably contact Asus and see what the deal is.
So I've had my 16gb Tablet for a few days. Upon first power up, I ran through all the updates, including 5.0. When all the updates were done, I did a complete reset of the system to get Lollipop nice and fresh.
I've noticed that a few days ago, I left the tablet on my nightstand at about 50%, the next afternoon it was completely dead. I didn't think much of it, thinking maybe a program went crazy and sucked it dry. It happens.
Yesterday I left it on my bed at 64%, a few hours later I went to use it and it was powered off. At least I thought it was powered off. I'm noticing this unit might have bad buttons, as they are really squishy and don't have a lot of feedback for the up volume and power. So after pressing the crap out of the power button, it seemed to power back up. It greeted me to showing about 60% battery. Ok, that was weird, but not the end of the world. I plug it in to charge to 1005%.
Last night, I unplugged it at 100% and left it on my computer desk. Just now (next morning) I went to flip open the cover and it wouldn't turn on. I try hitting power and nothing. I hold the power down for about 20 seconds and it finally powers on. It boots up to 48% battery. Now keep in mind that I didn't do anything to it last night when I unplugged it. As a matter of fact, I didn't open apps, but I made sure I swiped all open cards away so nothing was running.
Sorry for the long post, but I want all the details here.
A couple questions:
Anyone else having random sleep issues where it won't wake up? I thought a lot was resolved going to lollipop?
Anyone have issues with soft sloppy buttons with no travel or click on the side? This is my second unit and I thought the first one had better buttons..
I'm having the same issue. Once it goes to sleep, sometimes it randomly just shuts down on its own. When I leave it on overnight, it's almost guaranteed to be off in the morning. Since I've come to work today, it's already automatically shut down twice. What the heck is going on?

It was the first thing I checked, and yes, it's disabled. I did a reset of my device yesterday and I've only had one random shutdown thus far. Not ideal, but still an improvement....
You need RMA, Please read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56907689
Same story for me, tablet was defective, battery drain even in airplane mode with no application installed. If your tablet do this, don't lose time and change it.
I've just purchased one and it's happening exactly the same, it happens constantly, also the battery drain is considerable.
I'm in Lollipop, and I've already done a coupe of factory reset.
Does anyone know if this can be repaired somehow? Or I'll have to return it...
Thanks!

Never requested a RMA to NVIDIA, are they fast? I've bought the tablet in Amazon, I have doubts yo who should I request it.
Thanks
So you should request amazon, unless Nvidia offer you a direct replacement in their forums.
Quick question. Does everyone here experiencing shutdowns have a case with an auto wake/sleep feature?
I too have this issue. Auto off is disabled.
I tried going back to gingerbread and the power issue is non-existent. Once I do all the updates to Lollipop the issue returns. Think it's an issue with the rom, since gingerbread works flawlessly.
I have both a skin and one with auto wake and my k1 has been shutting down on its own even with just tye skin on it.
