wont turn on unless its plugged in - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys i just got my transformer today. a couple of times i shut it off and when i try to turn it back on it wont work unless i plug it in, even though the battery is above 90%

I have a very similar issue.
I have the B40 model, when I shut down, I can't turn back on. I have been leaving my TF on all day then just shut down at night and when I come to turn on in the morning, iit is fine. Today I had to restart due to wifi constantly saying it was turning off for no reason, upon shutting down, it wouldn't power back up. I hav left it for approx 1 and a half hours, still nothing. Doesn't make any difference if it is plugged in or not. My battery is full.
Really could do with some help with this issue, as it is really spoiling what I regard as a brilliant device.

Once you plug it in and it come on, does it stay on when you take the charger off?
Once on and you hit the power button does it do anything?
You might have a faulty power button IMO.

I don't know about Krueger, but mine doesn't do anything when you plug it in. I have to wait a few hours. When I last shutdown, I was trying to restart, it just never did. I had full charge. I can't even get into APX mode. My TF is stock unrooted. Power button works just fine when tablet is on, does exactly as it should.

I've seen reports of peoples getting this "deep sleep" and not able to turn it on easily. Not sure if there's a definite fix or not. Some peoples say they have good luck turning of the lock screen, some say they fixed it by factory resetting the tablet.

Cheers m8.
I will give this a try when I can turn it back on again. Its been approx 6 hrs now since I tried to restart it. I will have to wait till morning I think. When it has done it previously, I have left it on charge all night, even though there was more than half in it each time, and it seems to start up after about 7 - 10 seconds of holding the power button in.
Thanks again
Seg

So I have spent 15 mins listening to the back of the device while trying toturn on. From what I can hear it sounds like a quiet jet engine firing up for approx 1-1 and a quarter seconds then sounds like the jet engine turning off (I know this sounds wierd, but best way I can describe). Its almost like there isnt enough power to fire it all the way up. There also other noises going on even when I dont try and turn it on, so I don't think it is fully turned of. Maybe a deep sleep issue. I did notice on this occassion, befor I tried to restart that I had no internet connection and when I went to check wifi settings it said Wifi is turning off. I leave it set to default.
Thanks

[Q] Transformer not powering on?

Hey, I got my transformer yesterday, and for some reason this is the 2nd time this has happened, fully charged battery, but the device won't power on. Attempted to plug into power but no dice. Held the power button for 30 seconds, nothing, held the power and volume up and nothing. Yesterday when this happened I plugged it into my computer (Windows) and held the power and up buttons and it turned on though it could have been windows detecting the drivers. Anyone else having this? Any suggestions? I haven't had a chance to test again and see if I can bring it back through that trick yet, but I will. Then I'll try a factory reset and see if it resolves the issue. I would hate it if this is a defective unit, that's for sure esp since they are so backordered. Outside of that I love the device.

when your device isnt coming on, does your computer give you a usb notification? You could be putting it in apx mode on accident.

I will find out in a few. The thing is this has happened when I left the device unplugged and in sleep when driving to/from work. Yesterday plugging it back into the computer brought it to life. Nothing else did. Not sure what apx mode is even.
Sent from my MB860
EDIT: Ok, turns out it get stuck in some weird power mode. I plugged it into the computer with no resolution, when I held the power button for 10 seconds, then waited 5 and pressed it again, the device powered on. I suspect it might be an issue involving detecting WiFi access points when driving or something else. I'll Factory Restore and see what happens.

I had that sometimes in the first day I had it, after that it hasn't happened. No factory reset, just make sure to do a hard shutdown (powerbutton 10 sec~) while it's booted and it should fix the issue.

Yea, it had happened once already, and again. I'll be testing today when I leave work, factory reset and see what happens. Should it continue, I'll go to the next step. I'm just not sure what it is. Interesting bug to say the least.

I still don't really know what APX mode is, from the limited things I have seen about it, in order to get into such, the device has to be powered off first. As far as I can tell, my device isn't randomly powering itself off and automatically going into APX mode. This happens without me touching the device. When I did the power off and on today, it wasn't plugged into the computer at all. There was no recognition from the computer that the device was plugged in.
Well as of today, my EEE Transformer is dead. Will not power on the screen, Asus offers a repair of 14 business days, unacceptable.
Powering on issue
Woah...I was scared to death when mine didn't turn on the next morning that I got the device. Charged it for an hour and try to turn on again, nothing.
Holding the buttons several different ways that I know how to reset it didn't work. Finally I held the button down for more than 10 seconds. Wait a few seconds, then it powered on. Why didn't they make a hard reset since you can't remove battery!??? Hope this is just some fluke and could be updated with firmware.

Alas, mine didn't get resolved with that, computer detects it now, but no screen response. Asus tells me 14 business days to fix then says try to restore it with the Kernel Source Code. Unfortunately I can't see a way to do such from the folder and they decided to disconnect me.
There is a bug with the default lock screen that makes it so the screen doesnt power on occasionally. In order to work around this you need to disable the lock screen in the settings, or change it from the default one.
Obviously in order to do this initially it needs to be powered on and so you can see it. Therein lies your problem of course. To get around this, charge up your device so you know it has power, use the force power off method (10-12 second press of the power button), wait a few seconds (30+), then power on the device normally (5-6 second press of the power button).
If your screen doesnt come on after that, try a couple more times. It really is an RMA job if it continues to fail. If it does come on, let it boot up to the lock screen, and dont let the screen go off, keep it 'alive', unlock the device and change the lock screen in the options, to either be switched off, or to anything other than default.
This wont work for everyone, as obviously a few may actually have duff screens, but for some of you, it may just be the lock screen bug you are getting unlucky with.
Yea, I seem to have not only the lock screen bug but a defective screen. Unacceptable to me, but hey, what can I do? I've been disconnected 5 times so far, waiting on a manager and will be requesting a faster resolution than what they are offering me. (10-14 Business days is unacceptable)

i am in the same boat as you, luckly i picked up the acer for the weekend because i didnt think i was going to get the asus. glad i did
I'm waiting on hold with Asus to see if they will do an Advance Repair, basically I get put on the line for the full price of the device until they declare mine broken since the return period on the Acer is 14 days at best buy. Quite outside of the repair period.

[Q] Help Needed : Can't turn on?

My Transformer was working fine, battery fell below 9% so I put it to sleep and plugged it in...
Now the device will not turn on, back of unit is getting warm?
Well, the warmth will be the battery charging. No issue there.
See one of the half dozen threads about not turning back on.
It came back to life, after holding the power button still seemed dead, then i plugged in a HDMI cable and it turned on.
My power button is finicky... every thing else seems perfect...

Mine does this. You have to power off completely. To do that, you must hold the power button for more than 10 seconds to turn it off. Wait a bit, then power it back on by holding the power for 5 seconds.
I've searched around and people say it's the lock screen that causes the screen to blank. But I don't think that was it, I disabled it and it still does it.
Next someone says it has something to do with WiFi, I don't think this is right also because it has happened at times when I had the wifi OFF.

[Q] Please Help -> Dead Transformer? At wits end...[FIXED]

My Asus Transformer on ICS was rooted and fine. Then after the latest update the other day, I noticed yesterday that I lost root. Then today I powered it off and now it won't turn back on at all. Connecting it to the dock shows no sign of life. Plugging it in on it's own to both a PC and wall outlet and still no signs of life. ADB doesn't detect it. Windows doesn't detect it. Holding down the power button forever doesn't do anything. Power button and volume down doesn't do anything.
Do I have any other option other than sending it for repair/warranty? I've tried searching on here and Google and everything just says to boot into recovery. But that's not doing anything for me.
Please help.
Thanks.

It may have gotten "undercharged". When that happens it will take forever to show signs of life after its plugged in. Try leaving it plugged into the wall outlet overnight and see if it fixes it.

I was thinking the same thing. My Nook Tablet recently had this happen and I thought the thing was completely toast. I figured I'd give it one last shot and just plug it in for a while and like a 1/2 hour later, it suddenly woke up.
Hope the situation works out the same for you OP.
I've had it plugged in overnight and still nothing at all.
Now thinking about it, the reason it was shut it off (by my wife) was because it was glitching. It was playing music in the background from a game that wouldn't shut down. I'm guessing it was stuck in memory or something. So I'm wondering if this game or whatever is still somehow running and the device isn't actually completely shut down. I'm gonna do the opposite and leave it unplugged for the day. Let the battery completely deplete, hopefully shutting down fully and killing that process. Worth a shot.
try pressing power and vol down for like 30 seconds. Another thing I've seen people do is try plugging it in and holding power for 30 seconds. Also try plugging into computer totrickle charge for a bit. Hope any of this helps.

Tried those already with no luck, but thanks for the suggestion.
I've tried holding the power button for minutes at a time too. Power and volume down for minutes at a time. Plugged in and not plugged in. With and without memory card in while plugged in and not plugged in.
Update: I think there is some merit to my theory. Left it unplugged for a full day and then plugged it in and after a few tries it BOOTED! Working just fine ever since too and the strange thing is, the battery barely depleted at all.
So something was possibly running that was preventing it from fully shutting down? I don't know. Strange.
Had the same issue over the weekend
I wish I had seen your post prior to calling ASUS for support, I went through all the troubleshooting steps you suggested, had no luck. I did not wait long enough to let the battery fully discharge to see if that fixed it and my TF 101 is now on route to TX for warranty repair (I am hoping that I now may end up with a tablet with a few more of the issues ironed out also). But if not, but the time I get it back I will probably flash it with a custom ROM (probably Revolver), that may be out of Beta by that time.
We shall see.

[Problem] HTC Inspire will not work at all HELP!!

Hey all, I just got through with this hurricane sandy business and now I find my phone not working at all. First off I'd like to say that there is no water damage to this phone and it is NOT rooted. The problem is that it just won't turn on at all, and won't charge when I try to charge the device. The day before I charged the phone and it worked fine. I can provide more details if needed but I need to find a solution to this.
Did it run down on battery completely before it did this? You might need to charge it for a bit before it turns on. Also, see if you can get your hands on a spare battery to see if it's the battery's problem. I would also try removing the battery and putting it back just to make sure it wasn't jostled loose.

Two days ago I completely let the battery drain on its own because it was draining faster than usual and I was using it very minimally due to the lack of phone signal during the power outage. And yesterday I charged it until it was 100% in the morning and at night I charged it again until 100%. Before I went to bed, I turned off my phone and it was 90% and when I turned it on in the morning it was at 77% (which I thought was weird since the phone was not even on). Now the phone will not work at all. I took the battery out and everything. I even tried turning the phone on while trying to charge it (but it would not charge). The only feedback I got was that it vibrated when I tried turning it on this afternoon and after that was nothing. (it would either get stuck at the AT&T bootup part or I would get no display at all)

Nothing I can think of. It was fully charged by 9PM the other night and shut off before I went to bed. Next morning the batter is nearly halfway drained for no apparent reason. I think I will get another battery to test.
Also I let the battery sit out of the phone for a few days now and the phone still does not work.

Get a hold of a charged battery, then after 1 hour with no battery in the device, replace the battery remove the SD-Card and the SIM-Card, replace all covers. Reboot your PC and go to firewall tab in the control panel and turn of your firewalls, then reboot your PC, then using USB data cable not a charging cable.. with your device being OFF conect to a USB connection in the back of your PC, if it's a laptop use the one next to the intranet connection. Then wait about 1min. If nothing happwned, hold the volume down button then press and release the power button. if nothing happened, hold the volume up then press and release the power button. If nothing happened do the samething this time by holding both up and down volume buttons. If nothing happened with your device connected to the PC go to MY Computer tab right click on C>Properties then go to tools click on check disc tab check mark both options then restart your PC. Before windows tour OS starts, your PC will go through a self check. let it do its thing. it takes a couple of hours. then after its down check to see if it has seen your device. if not then do procedures above once again. GOOD LUCK.

That same thing happened to a friend of mine. She took it to a technician tho and they sorted it out for her.
Hello every one, this just my first post here, but I have been follow the forum very very close since some days ago thanks to Mustaavalkosta and his new CyanogenMod Rom here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2533007&page=283.
I am having a similar problem with my HTC Inspire, here is my story. I bought it like it a year ago, the first thing I do was to rooted with AAHK and install CyanoyenMod cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-ace. Everything works just fine till a couple of months ago. One night I just leave my Inspire and go to sleep, the next morning I wasn't able to turn on, not charging, not turn on. Was not the battery because my brother has another Inspire and I check with his battery. I just leave the phone without the battery and Sim and SD for a day and them come back again, but at next day the same occurs. I try all that time, vol down+power. voldown+volup, every convination but nothing works. So I decide to dissensambly my phone... in the process I broke the ribbon flex cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-HTC-Desire-HD-Inspire-4G-Camera-Socket-Keypad-Membrane-PBC-Ribbon-Flex-Cable-/320925341841?pt=US_Cell_Phone_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4ab8a41891 The phone was in parts on my table like a month till I was able to buy and recieve the ribbon (I live in Colombia). Finally the ribbon arrives 3 days ago, so I assembled the phone again and...magic! the phone turns on. My next step was install the Mustaavalkosta Rom that I mentioned before.... but, yesterday, my phone was dead again. So a try all steps again, put out the battery, Sim and Sd... and again try all the combinations of buttons, but nothing works... So I do it again: dissensably again my phone: Only disconnecting the display doesn't works... I have to disconect the display and the ribbon cable, assembled again and just turn on again.... Now I am waiting for the next black out...
I know is a weird behavior, but may be some one can point me in some direction to fix it.. I am not a developer or anything like that, but I like to investigate and solve problems... any help will be wonderful.
Cheers!
PD: I dont have any apps installed, just trying the Rom as it is.
PD: The next time it happens I will try the niavaran advises.

[Q] Randomly Powering itself off? Battery issue?

So I've had my 16gb Tablet for a few days. Upon first power up, I ran through all the updates, including 5.0. When all the updates were done, I did a complete reset of the system to get Lollipop nice and fresh.
I've noticed that a few days ago, I left the tablet on my nightstand at about 50%, the next afternoon it was completely dead. I didn't think much of it, thinking maybe a program went crazy and sucked it dry. It happens.
Yesterday I left it on my bed at 64%, a few hours later I went to use it and it was powered off. At least I thought it was powered off. I'm noticing this unit might have bad buttons, as they are really squishy and don't have a lot of feedback for the up volume and power. So after pressing the crap out of the power button, it seemed to power back up. It greeted me to showing about 60% battery. Ok, that was weird, but not the end of the world. I plug it in to charge to 1005%.
Last night, I unplugged it at 100% and left it on my computer desk. Just now (next morning) I went to flip open the cover and it wouldn't turn on. I try hitting power and nothing. I hold the power down for about 20 seconds and it finally powers on. It boots up to 48% battery. Now keep in mind that I didn't do anything to it last night when I unplugged it. As a matter of fact, I didn't open apps, but I made sure I swiped all open cards away so nothing was running.
Sorry for the long post, but I want all the details here.
A couple questions:
Anyone else having random sleep issues where it won't wake up? I thought a lot was resolved going to lollipop?
Anyone have issues with soft sloppy buttons with no travel or click on the side? This is my second unit and I thought the first one had better buttons..
I'm having the same issue. Once it goes to sleep, sometimes it randomly just shuts down on its own. When I leave it on overnight, it's almost guaranteed to be off in the morning. Since I've come to work today, it's already automatically shut down twice. What the heck is going on?

Are you sure that the auto shutdown feature is disabled?

It was the first thing I checked, and yes, it's disabled. I did a reset of my device yesterday and I've only had one random shutdown thus far. Not ideal, but still an improvement....
You need RMA, Please read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56907689
Same story for me, tablet was defective, battery drain even in airplane mode with no application installed. If your tablet do this, don't lose time and change it.
I've just purchased one and it's happening exactly the same, it happens constantly, also the battery drain is considerable.
I'm in Lollipop, and I've already done a coupe of factory reset.
Does anyone know if this can be repaired somehow? Or I'll have to return it...
Thanks!

Never requested a RMA to NVIDIA, are they fast? I've bought the tablet in Amazon, I have doubts yo who should I request it.
Thanks
So you should request amazon, unless Nvidia offer you a direct replacement in their forums.
Quick question. Does everyone here experiencing shutdowns have a case with an auto wake/sleep feature?
I too have this issue. Auto off is disabled.
I tried going back to gingerbread and the power issue is non-existent. Once I do all the updates to Lollipop the issue returns. Think it's an issue with the rom, since gingerbread works flawlessly.
I have both a skin and one with auto wake and my k1 has been shutting down on its own even with just tye skin on it.
