[Q] Reflashing I9003 - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

First Thanks to all of you for supporting I9003, and for helping us noobs
I have th GT-i9003 from like a year, great phone. it came with the LUBKPE stock firmware from entel in chile, and i updated it to XXKPQ following the tutorials here in XDA, also updated the kernel to [email protected] #15, i've got root cwm and a tweaks icon.
The problem is that like 2 weeks ago i installed a program called prey anti theft, after that when i try to enter CWM it just stays in a black screen same for tweaks icon, no problem with root.
So i decided to reflash my phone to get everything working fine. After a lot of reading decided to install the stock DDFL2 thats claimed to be the most stable stock rom for this phone.
1.-My first question is, i have read that i could screw up my emei doing this becouse a band incompatibility with this stock firmware (indian) and the bands used in my country (chile) is this true?? dont know if a got it wrong but thats what i understand of it.
2.-Also i read about making a backup of folders of the phone so in case of something like that happens i could recover it. So how i do this and what i need to backup??
3.- Third i read about bam kernel being better for stock firmwares, and [email protected] for customs is this true?
4.- when reflashing in the steps i read "flash KPE+pit twice", but in another forum i read of flashing KPE+pit and after that just flashing KPE (without pit) which one is the way to do it??
5.- and last, the wipe cache, clear cache and dalvik cache is done after the first boot, before i adjust my phone parameters?,or after that?, or before it first boot?? the first time id never did this but is said to be useful.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and for ur replys.
PD: and for rooting ddfl2 is best bagaria? ddfl2-cfroot? cfroot.apk? superoneclick? Thanks!

1)As far as I know ddlf2 is universal stock rom.. it wont screw up ur imei.. Bt S.. It has been designed for indian phns.. U might lost local language supprt/app etc on ur fone.. if u face any prblms, u can easily revert back to original rom using nandroid backup..
2)Jst root ur phone with cfroot(which installs cwm as well) using odin.. Then go to recovery mode >backup & restore>nandroid backup
3)I don no vch kernel is better.. Its purely depends upon ur usage/preference.. So try every kernel on ur phone atleat one week then compare the petformance.
4) I suggest flashing kpe with 4 files twice.. it will clean off ur phone..
5) can do it whenever u wnt..

The i9003L and i9003 are the same phone, the "L" means it has a diferent modem, but the specs are the same and their roms are also the same. Also The L or Latona is for "Latin America"/Latinoamérica. So thanks again and sorry for my bad english!

Since you are from Chile, you need the modem for your country.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app

Thanks for ur replyes they really helped me out.
That means that after i flash the DDFL2 rom i have to flash the Modem.tar.md5 file of the xxKPE, and with this i activate the bands of my country?
And also i have read that people with the SCL version of the phone dont need to do this, but the ones with the L version do. Thats real and how i know wich version i have? i have read of a guy that claims that his L version phone transformed into SCL... dont really know what this means.
Thanks.

Hello .
I just made a simple custom rom for our phones (Just in order to try to make a custom rom for the i5800 ) which is rooted (and with busybox installed too ), and in which i have removed all third party software which is originally bundled and which i don't use (you can still install them using market or using a apk from the original rom )
It doesn't contains boot.bin nor Sbl.bin, but contains datafs.rfs (so it will wipe all your personal data as always)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VI1YM01Z
any problems so far?

have you prepared a GPS for european region ? or do we have to switch on / off and make many customizations ? Thanks
you should at least give some instructions on how to flash... is this a odin package or does one need to flash it through update.zip in recovery?
"It doesn't contains boot.bin nor Sbl.bin, but contains datafs.rfs (so it will wipe all your personal data as always)"
So odin...
Has anyone tried to flash this ? .. i am still waiting for my replacement unit from samsung
It's just a proof of concept . Yes you should flash it with odin, since it's a tar file.
Flashed, and for now this rocks! Root WORKS!
You're my new hero ;-)
EDIT: Would like to add that the firmware is afflicted by lag...luckily your (ported) lagfix solved that as well!
One more thing: when tring to access to gpssetup2 using the key combination *#*#321489065#*#*, just doesn't work :-(
Would be nice if you could give some infos how you did it, so other people could learn how to cook their own roms and the community starts to gain momentum.

Is it possible to make a list of all the apps that are removed?
And did you apply any other tweaks to the rom? Like including the lagfix in the rom? Would be very nice in my opinion.

And don't you hear a click during the call ? Does it make sense to work with JPB ? I appreciate your efford, could you please leave the FM radio in it and prepare GPS for european region with OCTYs fix with JPA or (in future JPC) -
Have you resolved the click problem somehow in JPB ? Thaks
bad rom.
dude. after flashing ur rom.. i tried flashing back to orignal jpb... to my surprise.. i couldnt.. stuck at screen saying "samsung"... it did not happened with me before. . not even once...
now i m on eclair DDJG6 with which the phone orignally came with and its not even flashing other eclair roms aswel. same stuck on samsung...
now. wat could be done about this...
same thing happened to me..except i tried to use the custom JPA posted in this forum..after that i tried to flash a JPB with a different modem.bin (DDJG6) now i can flash everything but it gets stuck at samsung logo..except with the stock eclair..is this a datafs.rfs problem? coz JPB doesn't have that and eclair firmware does? Weird thing is i installed JPB once and then couldn't root it, it said toolbox not installed..i figured the only solution was reflashing.
Now i am on the stock rom..trying to get to froyo...without bricking my phone.
any help would be appreciated.
Also when i was on the JPA..i tried lagfix and then unlagfixed it..could that have caused a problem?
Reply Gsam
Hey gsam... Me and AJ facing same problem... So this is not a coincidence... This did not happened to us before flashing your ROM... And now reply what can be done... Does this mean we are stuck on this JPB or stock eclair... YOU need to answer... !!!
and all is well in the world..
okay here is how i solved..i did what i could..that is i flashed the stock I5801DDJG6 rom..then hard reset the phone from recovery...then flashed the XXJPB (minus the boot files boot.bin and sbl.bin you don't wanna lose your bootloader), this time without my sim inserted ( a superstition, i don't know?!?!) this XXJPB has the XXJP2 baseband which has the clickety click problem..last time i flashed with an older modem.bin i couldn't root coz it kept saying toolbox was missing, so none of the adb commands worked (like ls, chmod)...back then even reflashing didn't help..( I still don't know what did this, my guess is either the lagfix i tried or a unclean data partition which was fixed when i flashed the stock rom)
after flashing the XXJPB, once again hard reset and checked that adb was working and i could run all the commands..which meant i could root..flashed the phone with just the DDJG6 modem file..(separately this time) and checked again..everything was fine..so..rooted with superoneclick 1.5.5 and now all is well in my android world..i have a seemingly bugfree rooted JPB for now.. (the only bug is that in status the signal strength is shown as 0 dbm and 0 asu, although i do have full signal though, and i checked the gsm status using the code *#0011# working fine at 900, the only problem was clickety click which is now gone)
Model No.GT-I5800
Firmware Version-2.2
Baseband: I5801DDJG6
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build: FROYO.XXJPB
Just go back to your stock rom (for I5801 DDJG5/6 work), hard reset..and then flash whichever rom you are trying to..
hope this can help anyone..
a little quess brother..
okay.. when u went back to ddjg6.. and rested..
did u have the boot screen saying i5800 or i5801? ? i mean did u touched the bootloader.. i have the one which says i5800 do i need to flash the i5801 or the i5800 one will do? ????
plz give details
u removed boot.bin and sbl.bin from the xxjpb package... did u add anythin to it?

I had lost the I5801 bootscreen when i flashed XXJPB for the first time over the stock DDJG6,
then i restored the bootscreen, thanx to someone who uploaded the I5801 bootloader on the forum..Now not to repeat the same mistake twice, i removed the boot.bin and sbl.bin from the XXJPB.tar file..and no i didn't add anything to it...
there is the click bug in JPB..so i flashed the modem.bin from DDJG6 after i had first flashed the XXJPB..
Now i have the I5801 bootscreen, with FROYO.XXJPB build and DDJG6 baseband.
I don't think it matters if you have I5800 bootscreen or I5801 except for warranty purposes..
And since flashing bootloader is risky business (not to scare you, but it can brick your phone if something goes wrong with odin while flashing the bootloader) I think its best to avoid it..i have done it once successfully, now there is no need, so i remove the boot files(boot.bin and sbl.bin) from the firmware tar.

Back to stock - Issues.

I have a I9020T, I was on CM7, Oxygen etc.. for the last few months. But i had some stability issues, SOD's , reboots, freezes etc.
So i thought I'll go back to good old stock. i downloaded the stock rom's from the general section, and flashed them
Now i notice that i lose signals, phone's display is messed up during incoming calls( I can only see the the status bar, Below that everything is black, But i could just answer the calls by swiping the screen), Losing signal happens almost every alternate day.
So all i wanna know is, Are all these known bugs or is my phone screwed up due to too much flashing?
I am totally unrooted now.... I wiped everything including sd card and have tried atleast 3 different stock roms already.
Anyone else having these issues? Any solutions or fixes.
Hi,
Have you already try ODIN ?
He's able to put your device as it was before all changes.

I thought odin was not safe? That's a last option right because its the same as flashing the stock rom through recovery?
I've already use it a lot of time. I was using it on my spica by thé past.
With thé good files and the good tuto it might work.
Here, in France, we use Odin to restore a clean phone.
If you decided tu use it, you will put your device like ait was new . And you will have to flash thé recovery and root him.
I late you search for some comments from over users.

can you supply links for the nessesary files for i9020t???
I'll find the folder to download here (need to register for DL) : http://www.samfirmware.com/mobile.htm
I'm looking for link for ODIN download.
I just talk about a way to might resolve some issue, use it a your own risks.
Be careful with your device version. Save your data (SMS, Pictures, Music...)
Using Odin shouldn't remove data from "SD CARD" but might be safe...
Edit : The link of download ODIN is in the same line. (FLASHER).

Can you give me link of proper instructions for ODIN, I searched here and the thread in Android development doesn't seem to have the necessary files for I9020T.
I don't know what kind of difference there is between i9020 A and i9020 T.
I'm running a i9023.
In the website I'd give the link, you'll find a FlashGuide with explain what is necessary to do in order to use Odin.
If you register there, you'll able to download the guide and more informations about the way to use.
I can't give you more answers, sorry.
Try Matr1x v11.0 CFS ;D
Do you think i9023 & i9020T are running the same build ?
I wonder.
Because, I've just get a look on the following thread and the two devices seems to work with the same baseband.
Look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062
I let you wait for another feedback from users. I just should want to give a way.
I hope you'll manage to get back to Stock.

The dalvik cache is under 'Advanced', don't miss that step it's important.
About DDKP3, READ THE GUIDE Vishal gave you, read it again, it is similar process.
I suggest not rushing and reading first, i registered here after TWO MONTHS of research and reading topics, and STILL ASKED the questions to make sure.
Play it safe. No body want's a bricked device because of not reading a step or two.
its done guys, it was so easy just following the steps thank u very much, it works like fire so fast and so clean thank you.

I want to add that reading the sticky threads is very important!
Flashing is dangerous, and you are doing something wrong if nothing changed, you should be very grateful that you didn't brick your device yet!
Take a look at the sticky threads, they really contain tons of information that will get you started and clear most of the questions and doubts you had!
I've run into this problem a few times myself usually because I was being silly. To help I'll need a bit of info from you elghandor.
1. What do you mean by it doesn't 'look different'? I hope you actually checked the ROM version under Settings - About Phone. It may sound like a silly question but if you're only flashing an incremental stock ROM update. You won't see many noticeable differences in the UI that would make it 'Look Different.
2. I noticed you said it looks the same after Factory/Data Reset. Well that's the thing, it will look the same. Factory/Data Reset only clears your user data but doesn't erase the actual phone ROM. Just doing a factory reset won't change the base ROM or the apps that came with it. They'll still be there.
I also hope you're not doing a Factory/Data Reset AFTER flashing a new ROM? If you are don't. You only need a hard reset when going to a totally new ROM and you do that BEFORE flashing. If you were to do that a Factory Reset after flashing a new ROM you'd just destroy all your work and bounce back to the base ROM. I did this once when I did a Factory reset after installing MIUI and I was immediately bounced back to base XXKPE.
Anyway that's just some advice. Like the others said we'll need more info to give you proper help.
PS: To any others, if any mistakes in my post please correct me. All my experience with flashing ROMs comes from trial and error personally not an expert by any means

[Q] Accidentally wiped my system.. Help!!!

1st of all, i am a beginner. Just brought my android ics phone last month. I also rooted my phone by the help of my friend last week. But yesterday i was trying to restore factory settings. But i accidentally wiped my system. And now my phone wont boot. It stuck in BootScreen. Nothing happens then. I dont have the backup of my rom. what to do now ??? Please help!! Sorry for my bad English & Thanks in advance who wanna help me
..
What recovery are you using? Even if you wiped the phone you should still have it running. All you need to do is reboot in recovery mode. Hard to tell you how as I dunno what the phone is.
Before that you'll need to download your stock firmware and put it on the root directory of your SD card if you have one, so that once in recovery you'll actually have something to flash.
If the phone doesn't have a SD slot, then you'll need to use a recovery tool on your PC to flash it.
Right now shut the phone down, remove the battery, find some guides specific about your phone, and read them carefully. There's a reason why we're using recoveries. First thing you should have done is to backup your stock firmware somewhere on your computer or on the cloud, and make sure you knew how to use it if something like that was to happen... Little late for that now.
When you'll know what to do, just mind that you still have enough battery to flash the stock ROM. Come back to ask help here if there's something you don't understand. Good luck!

No problem. Just install this partition manager free. It is perfectly adapted for windows 8. And you are offered a variety of options which can swap/merge/separate new partitions. With a very easy-to-understand instructions, everything is perfect!

Good luck!
