Hello .
I just made a simple custom rom for our phones (Just in order to try to make a custom rom for the i5800 ) which is rooted (and with busybox installed too ), and in which i have removed all third party software which is originally bundled and which i don't use (you can still install them using market or using a apk from the original rom )
It doesn't contains boot.bin nor Sbl.bin, but contains datafs.rfs (so it will wipe all your personal data as always)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VI1YM01Z
any problems so far?

have you prepared a GPS for european region ? or do we have to switch on / off and make many customizations ? Thanks
you should at least give some instructions on how to flash... is this a odin package or does one need to flash it through update.zip in recovery?
"It doesn't contains boot.bin nor Sbl.bin, but contains datafs.rfs (so it will wipe all your personal data as always)"
So odin...
Has anyone tried to flash this ? .. i am still waiting for my replacement unit from samsung
It's just a proof of concept . Yes you should flash it with odin, since it's a tar file.
Flashed, and for now this rocks! Root WORKS!
You're my new hero ;-)
EDIT: Would like to add that the firmware is afflicted by lag...luckily your (ported) lagfix solved that as well!
One more thing: when tring to access to gpssetup2 using the key combination *#*#321489065#*#*, just doesn't work :-(
Would be nice if you could give some infos how you did it, so other people could learn how to cook their own roms and the community starts to gain momentum.

please make their apk available.. wud be Great
Is it possible to make a list of all the apps that are removed?
And did you apply any other tweaks to the rom? Like including the lagfix in the rom? Would be very nice in my opinion.

And don't you hear a click during the call ? Does it make sense to work with JPB ? I appreciate your efford, could you please leave the FM radio in it and prepare GPS for european region with OCTYs fix with JPA or (in future JPC) -
Have you resolved the click problem somehow in JPB ? Thaks
bad rom.
dude. after flashing ur rom.. i tried flashing back to orignal jpb... to my surprise.. i couldnt.. stuck at screen saying "samsung"... it did not happened with me before. . not even once...
now i m on eclair DDJG6 with which the phone orignally came with and its not even flashing other eclair roms aswel. same stuck on samsung...
now. wat could be done about this...
same thing happened to me..except i tried to use the custom JPA posted in this forum..after that i tried to flash a JPB with a different modem.bin (DDJG6) now i can flash everything but it gets stuck at samsung logo..except with the stock eclair..is this a datafs.rfs problem? coz JPB doesn't have that and eclair firmware does? Weird thing is i installed JPB once and then couldn't root it, it said toolbox not installed..i figured the only solution was reflashing.
Now i am on the stock rom..trying to get to froyo...without bricking my phone.
any help would be appreciated.
Also when i was on the JPA..i tried lagfix and then unlagfixed it..could that have caused a problem?
Reply Gsam
Hey gsam... Me and AJ facing same problem... So this is not a coincidence... This did not happened to us before flashing your ROM... And now reply what can be done... Does this mean we are stuck on this JPB or stock eclair... YOU need to answer... !!!
and all is well in the world..
okay here is how i solved..i did what i could..that is i flashed the stock I5801DDJG6 rom..then hard reset the phone from recovery...then flashed the XXJPB (minus the boot files boot.bin and sbl.bin you don't wanna lose your bootloader), this time without my sim inserted ( a superstition, i don't know?!?!) this XXJPB has the XXJP2 baseband which has the clickety click problem..last time i flashed with an older modem.bin i couldn't root coz it kept saying toolbox was missing, so none of the adb commands worked (like ls, chmod)...back then even reflashing didn't help..( I still don't know what did this, my guess is either the lagfix i tried or a unclean data partition which was fixed when i flashed the stock rom)
after flashing the XXJPB, once again hard reset and checked that adb was working and i could run all the commands..which meant i could root..flashed the phone with just the DDJG6 modem file..(separately this time) and checked again..everything was fine..so..rooted with superoneclick 1.5.5 and now all is well in my android world..i have a seemingly bugfree rooted JPB for now.. (the only bug is that in status the signal strength is shown as 0 dbm and 0 asu, although i do have full signal though, and i checked the gsm status using the code *#0011# working fine at 900, the only problem was clickety click which is now gone)
Model No.GT-I5800
Firmware Version-2.2
Baseband: I5801DDJG6
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build: FROYO.XXJPB
Just go back to your stock rom (for I5801 DDJG5/6 work), hard reset..and then flash whichever rom you are trying to..
hope this can help anyone..
a little quess brother..

I had lost the I5801 bootscreen when i flashed XXJPB for the first time over the stock DDJG6,
then i restored the bootscreen, thanx to someone who uploaded the I5801 bootloader on the forum..Now not to repeat the same mistake twice, i removed the boot.bin and sbl.bin from the XXJPB.tar file..and no i didn't add anything to it...
there is the click bug in JPB..so i flashed the modem.bin from DDJG6 after i had first flashed the XXJPB..
Now i have the I5801 bootscreen, with FROYO.XXJPB build and DDJG6 baseband.
I don't think it matters if you have I5800 bootscreen or I5801 except for warranty purposes..
And since flashing bootloader is risky business (not to scare you, but it can brick your phone if something goes wrong with odin while flashing the bootloader) I think its best to avoid it..i have done it once successfully, now there is no need, so i remove the boot files(boot.bin and sbl.bin) from the firmware tar.

Well I am happy for the work That is being done by the XDA 15800 forum members esp rex,sahil,sazby,gsm101 , brave buddy , addicted and others...
However I just wish to draw people's attention to actually understanding how things like lagfix works so that they dont face the problems that I faced...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9745695&postcount=40
Just chck out the final piece of code of UN-lagfix that u run to undo i5800 lagfix:
echo "Cleaning /data"
cd /data
busybox rm -r *
echo "Removing auto boot support"
busybox mv /system/bin/playlogosnow /system/bin/playlogos
echo "All done! Rebooting device so that the EXT2 Loopback device is freed."
reboot
chck out the bold part. so what the lagfix does is create a ext2 partion in your internal memory, and whenever your device boots , it is automatically directed to that ext2 chunk.
Now if your phone is working correctly, then no problem.
However IF your phone crashes while u still have lagfix enabled... well I guess after that people will be stuck onto their boot screen staring at i5800 logo for days to come....
morever whatever firmware u flash, since the command makes changes in the mbr, it cant be resolved by usual flashing via odin.
You actually need to restore the proper boot partition which can be done via adb . But then ADB can be used only when the phone is on and in debugging mode..
more reasons why you should be careful with these fixes is
1) i5800 is a relatively new phone. We still don't have the stock kernel, stock recovery with us. For other phones like galaxy s that is available for download.
2) The odin for i5800 is meant mainly for flashing(its not yet advanced). However it lacks the repartition option that is present in galaxy s odin.
3)No clockwork mod recovery for i5800 . Nandroid backup not there.
This post is not meant to be disrespectful to others. I have immense respect for people who work hard and take risks to bring new features to our phones But still it is better to understand something before we do it.. I have learned it the hard way.
anyway for those who have an indian i5801, might want to know that only 2 firmwares out there to solve the issues. so any issues you face do keep a copy of both in your pc, esp datafs and zimage..
ddj5/ddj6
first you flash only the boot kernel, ie zimage, and then again u flash ddj6 . If you are lucky it will boot correctly.

Quite an interesting post these things are surely of importance and we people will have to start from scratch and either make other work tweaked for our purpose or have to build new one.
I will be looking into the details and first thing of importance is to have a backup plan when things go wrong because ppl who buy this phone buy it mostly because they cant afford more expansive ones or 2 phone so safety should be the first and foremost concern here.....
Happy coding...

well the default firmware for Indian i5801 is
july ddj5
august ddj6
and yeah it is a multi-csc firmware( csc corresponds to area and apns)
but the problem is that the version of ddj5 and ddj6 hosted on sam firmware are leaked builds...
the original build should be ddj2/3 (4 is unlucky in korean)
p.s. If any indianforum member who is reading this has an untouched(never rooted, never flashed) new i5801, then we can try and extract stock kernel , bootloader , ziimage and boot.bin from there so that we have a safety net in future.

Just letting people know that any bricked phones are not because of my instructions, but can be because of the work done by the other members named above. But since the work they're doing is good, we all gotta take some risks. I know I do..
No disrespect to those whose names have been mentioned in this thread. Appreciate the great work that you guys are doing..

Hello ..
So, in theory, the lagfix i had ported doesn't change at all the partition scheme of the i5800, since it's a LOOPBACK device in the /data partition: If you prefer, a partition in the partition. So, it can't, at all, brick your phone, since you ALWAYS can flash again with Odin (As i said before, you should remove the battery while not in USB/AC).
And you HAVE TO flash a datafs.rfs if something went wrong. I say it again.

this makes absolutely no sense to me... in that case you´d need to change the thread title and also content of first post, which makes all other posts obsolete what again makes the whole thread obsolete.
however, this lagfix is confirmed working multiple times but it surely needs some work to be done, and in my opinion is not really needed. my girlfriends G3 opens contacts even faster than my SGS (this however could have to do with her having 120 contacts versus me having 800+) despite my SGS runs on custom kernel with ext4 for data partition. Also Lagfixes though a loop device are always a little risky to loose data when doing an unpropper shutdown.
But what the op stated is just untrue, the lagfix does not resist a firmware flash if that firmware contains a datafs.rfs file.
hi, im almos 12 hours trying to flash my chinamobile i9008 to an europe i9000. >.<
Is it even possible? If i try to flash it with odin it always says "wrong factoryfs.rfs"
Theres only one firware available for it, its called "I9008ZMJG1" but its with all the chinese **** on it, and no android market and so one =/
the flashtool of the original firmware is Aries v0.1 - and if i try to flash the original firmware its working fine with no problem. I also saw that the structure of the firmware is different from the normal i9000 one.
Is there any chance to flash it? Maybe a force flash somehow, so that he dont care about the factoryfs.rfs or so?
Big thx in advance

So this is for my sister and I don't want to risk bricking her phone, but I'm not sure what my options are at this point. If you can take just a minute to help clarify what I should do at this point.
She was running a miui rom and some how or another got stuck in the loop of stock recovery and the battery with the question mark screen.. So after some research I saw I could boot in bootloader from stock recovery, then SBF and it would be fine.
I saw the warning on the SBF thread about not being able to downgrade if you used SBF to flash a Gingerbread rom, well I read that wrong and thought it meant if youre currently on a GB rom, you couldn't use SBF to downgrade. So i flashed the "4.5.3-109 Blur multilanguage" GB build and it works fine, but now I need to root it to flash a new rom and most require the Nordic (2.2) base and I can't use SBF to downgrade to it now..
Can I use this thread (http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/08/25/well-that-was-fast-one-click-droid-3-root-now-available/) to root GB, then install CWM, flashed a 2.2 rom, then SBF to Nordic?
Or do I need to follow these steps?

I'm very lost here and a huge Moto noob..any guidance would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks in advance
so...why didnt u post the first time before doing the stupid thing of flashing a full gb sbf ?
defy+ users are reporting that droid easy root works on theyr devices but u cant instal cm7 or miui on a gb base
u need to folow the downgrade tutorial if it works..i didn't tried it just coz i dont want to take any chances
ur solution for the boot loop would have been much simpler, either by wiping the phone in custom recovery
or wiping the phone in moto recovery, then flashing a new froyo sbf (any sbf except china one) and flash latest miui, then restore only data if she had a nandroid backup (i do 1 every week just to be shure)

At this point, it doesnt really matter, I made a mistake and this is where I'm at..I'm used to HTC devices and this is totally different.
I wasn't able to get into the custom recovery, I tried 20+ times and could not get into custom recovery, only stock. So i did wipe from there and flashed like the sbf. Like I said, I read the thread wrong, I thought it meant I couldnt sbf to Froyo since I was already on GB.
So should I try the 'easy root', then install CW, flash a froyo rom and then can I use SBF to go to Nordic?
Thanks for the reply..I appreciate any help..
I'm confused in the downgrade instructions where it says to flash the first build..How are you supposed to flash the build if its not rooted yet and its not a sbf file?
i know if you flash full GB sbf (is it full sbf?), then there is no chance for you to downgrade to froyo, you can only stay in GB (and above in the future)

That's a myth busted I have to say. You can install any AOSP rom from Gingerbread build. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287704
It depends if whether you want to flash MIUI then you can directly install it onto your GB, but if you want to go back to Froyo there's a really long and tiring process for that. Lemme know what's on your mind and I'll point you to it.

@civicvx94 shift happens man. Next time you should pay more attention to the warning messages. However you can go back and install Froyo on your sister's Defy, but you cannot do this just by flashing a FULL Froyo SBF. I think this post it's detailed enough and you'll be able to go back to Froyo if you follow those instructions. Then you can try to install 2nd init and put another ROM (like MIUI or CM7) and if you ever encounter any issues and you need to reinstall then you'll have to go again from base 0 (install the "special" eclair, root it, install recovery, install froyo nandroid and then the fixed sbf).

Thanks you guys so much for your help. This is one of the most helpful forums on xda..I have only owned HTC devices, and once you have a custom recovery installed switching between roms is no problem, so yeah I misread and messed up.
@ryan8r - I'm planning on going back to a MIUI or CM7 build, so that thread looks like it could be what I need..
@nepotu - thanks alot for that link, I believe that's the path I'm going to need to go, everything looks pretty straight forward there..
So you're saying that if I ever need to start over (once I have miui installed), instead of just being a sbf a Froyo build, I have to first sbf the special eclair build, root, 2nd init, then nandroid restore to Froyo, then use the fixed sbf to froyo?
Out of curiosity, is it possible to brick a Defy or can you normally sbf and save it? Just wondering in case I run into any issues..
Thanks again for the help
You welcome and yes if you screw up MIUI then you'll have to first flash that special Eclair (which has two partitions with code 5, same as leaked GB) and then follow the remaining steps. You cannot install Froyo via FULL SBF unless you have a special Froyo SBF with those two partitions upgraded to code 5. (Off course you can flash also the leaked GB)
You cannot build SBF files unless you have Moto digital signature. I assume that the special Eclair SBF is sort of zombie SBF, built from two ROMs (some partitions are from the leaked GB and some from Eclair). There is a tool (Moto depaker) that will allow you to "break" the SBF into CG files but you cannot change those partitions as it will change their checksum and therefore their digital signature won't be valid. Moreover you cannot flash a partition (CG) with a lower code than your Defy's partition.
Why don't you first install 2ndinit and try installing MIUI onto your current build. If that don't work you always have the chinese eclair at your disposal. I doubt if the CG partitions will cause problem with any AOSP rom.

Ok I think I have a lot better idea of whats going on now..
I'm about to start the process now, I think to be safe I think I'll go the longer route, and if I mess something up, then try to install miui on top of the GB build.
I'll report back with success/failure.
Thanks guys. wish me luck..ha
Well I went the longer route and have MIUI successfully installed on it, everything seems to be running great!
Thanks for all the help.

Same over here.
I rooted my A511 and now I can't go back, already tried several things but everytime I install the OTA update I get a bootloader error. (Yes my bootloader is back to stock)

I'm in a similar boat (bricked my device and somehow need to flash something to have the tablet boot). Can't we just use the firmware linked in the OP? It might not be the german version but I suppose we could still flash it and just change the language or something? Anyway, that's what I'm gonna try as soon as my SD card arrives.
Is it possible, to install the english OS on a "german" tablet?
Or encounter some problems?
English itself, shouldn't be the problem.
I was wondering whether I might get some helpt flashing the "Acer_AV041_A511_1.011.00_WW_GEN1". My Tablet has been bricked for some time because I (stupid as I am) tried to do a factory reset using the recovery provided by nikagl even though he specifically said that we were not to do that (I did read that warning but after a few weeks I just forgot about it :/).
Anyway, I've installed the cmw recovery by nothrills and tried to flash aforementioned firmware. I put it on an external SD card which has been formatted to FAT32. I went to the recovery menu and tried to flash the zip file. However, I got a getprop(product.name) error and the installation was aborted. After browsing the board a bit I found out that I have to delete the line starting with 'assert(getprop("ro.product.name")' which is located in META-INF\com\google\android\. But still, the tablet won't flash the firmware. It simply says "Installation aborted. Status 5 [or 6]".
I've also tried flashing the firmware by going back to stock recovery, renaming the firmware to update.zip and starting the tablet by holding the power and the minus button which is supposed to start the flashing process automatically. However, that just results in a red " ! " and an Android lying on its back.
I'd really appreciate it if someone was able to help me. (I've already sent the tablet to the Acer customer service who said that the installation of cmw recovery has damaged the motherboard. They say they will replace it for ~250€.)
Thank you for trying to help, I really appreciate it .
You have to edit line 1 of the updater-script in META-INF\com\google\android\
Delete this: in assert(getprop("ro.product.name") == "a510_emea_de");

That is mostly what I did. Except I used winrar instead of 7zip. The first line of the updater-script was "assert(getprop("ro.product.name") == "a511_ww_gen1");" and I deleted it. When I then try to flash the file it says "E:Error in /external_sd/Acer_AV041_A511_1.011.00_WW_GEN1 - Copy.zip (Status 6)"
I also tried renaming the zip file first but the result was the same.
Edit:
As it turns out, the Status 6 error does only occur when I edit the updater-script file with wordpad. If I open it with the editor it works just fine. I was able to flash the firmware. However, the tablet then wouldn't do anything else then showing "Acer" on the screen for ever and ever and ever and ever :/.
In the case you installed a A510 ROM (without 3G) and can't flash back to the original A511 to be able to upgrade to JB and have a working 3G functionality, cause CWM vomits status 7 or 4 errors while flashing the offered .zip, try this way

First Thanks to all of you for supporting I9003, and for helping us noobs
I have th GT-i9003 from like a year, great phone. it came with the LUBKPE stock firmware from entel in chile, and i updated it to XXKPQ following the tutorials here in XDA, also updated the kernel to [email protected] #15, i've got root cwm and a tweaks icon.
The problem is that like 2 weeks ago i installed a program called prey anti theft, after that when i try to enter CWM it just stays in a black screen same for tweaks icon, no problem with root.
So i decided to reflash my phone to get everything working fine. After a lot of reading decided to install the stock DDFL2 thats claimed to be the most stable stock rom for this phone.
1.-My first question is, i have read that i could screw up my emei doing this becouse a band incompatibility with this stock firmware (indian) and the bands used in my country (chile) is this true?? dont know if a got it wrong but thats what i understand of it.
2.-Also i read about making a backup of folders of the phone so in case of something like that happens i could recover it. So how i do this and what i need to backup??
3.- Third i read about bam kernel being better for stock firmwares, and [email protected] for customs is this true?
4.- when reflashing in the steps i read "flash KPE+pit twice", but in another forum i read of flashing KPE+pit and after that just flashing KPE (without pit) which one is the way to do it??
5.- and last, the wipe cache, clear cache and dalvik cache is done after the first boot, before i adjust my phone parameters?,or after that?, or before it first boot?? the first time id never did this but is said to be useful.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and for ur replys.
PD: and for rooting ddfl2 is best bagaria? ddfl2-cfroot? cfroot.apk? superoneclick? Thanks!

1)As far as I know ddlf2 is universal stock rom.. it wont screw up ur imei.. Bt S.. It has been designed for indian phns.. U might lost local language supprt/app etc on ur fone.. if u face any prblms, u can easily revert back to original rom using nandroid backup..
2)Jst root ur phone with cfroot(which installs cwm as well) using odin.. Then go to recovery mode >backup & restore>nandroid backup
3)I don no vch kernel is better.. Its purely depends upon ur usage/preference.. So try every kernel on ur phone atleat one week then compare the petformance.
4) I suggest flashing kpe with 4 files twice.. it will clean off ur phone..
5) can do it whenever u wnt..

The i9003L and i9003 are the same phone, the "L" means it has a diferent modem, but the specs are the same and their roms are also the same. Also The L or Latona is for "Latin America"/Latinoamérica. So thanks again and sorry for my bad english!

Since you are from Chile, you need the modem for your country.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for ur replyes they really helped me out.
That means that after i flash the DDFL2 rom i have to flash the Modem.tar.md5 file of the xxKPE, and with this i activate the bands of my country?
And also i have read that people with the SCL version of the phone dont need to do this, but the ones with the L version do. Thats real and how i know wich version i have? i have read of a guy that claims that his L version phone transformed into SCL... dont really know what this means.
Thanks.
