I want to add that reading the sticky threads is very important!
Flashing is dangerous, and you are doing something wrong if nothing changed, you should be very grateful that you didn't brick your device yet!
Take a look at the sticky threads, they really contain tons of information that will get you started and clear most of the questions and doubts you had!

I've run into this problem a few times myself usually because I was being silly. To help I'll need a bit of info from you elghandor.
1. What do you mean by it doesn't 'look different'? I hope you actually checked the ROM version under Settings - About Phone. It may sound like a silly question but if you're only flashing an incremental stock ROM update. You won't see many noticeable differences in the UI that would make it 'Look Different.
2. I noticed you said it looks the same after Factory/Data Reset. Well that's the thing, it will look the same. Factory/Data Reset only clears your user data but doesn't erase the actual phone ROM. Just doing a factory reset won't change the base ROM or the apps that came with it. They'll still be there.
I also hope you're not doing a Factory/Data Reset AFTER flashing a new ROM? If you are don't. You only need a hard reset when going to a totally new ROM and you do that BEFORE flashing. If you were to do that a Factory Reset after flashing a new ROM you'd just destroy all your work and bounce back to the base ROM. I did this once when I did a Factory reset after installing MIUI and I was immediately bounced back to base XXKPE.
Anyway that's just some advice. Like the others said we'll need more info to give you proper help.
PS: To any others, if any mistakes in my post please correct me. All my experience with flashing ROMs comes from trial and error personally not an expert by any means

[Q] Galaxy Tab - Phone.apk error

Hello everyone!
As you can see I am a noobie and I hope I am doing the right thing to start a new thread. I searched the previous posts but couldn't find any related topic.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7", GT-P1000XXJPZ, Gingerbread 2.3.3, Kernel 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2, Build GINGERBREAD.XX1Q1, rooted with Odin, installed CWM, Superuser and Terminal Emulator. I have then deleted many system apps but NOT the phone.apk nor any phone related system apps.
Everything worked perfectly but then suddenly one morning the GTab started showing a popup notice after ending every phone call reporting an error in com.android.phone process and the only option is to Force Close it.
After this the app restarts and I'm able to make and take phone calls, but the bluetooth earpiece does not connect anymore until I reboot the Tab.
Everything else works perfectly and the Tab is now flying with 259MB of free memory.
I even tried wiping everything and restore factory settings but no luck...
So, the questions are:
1. Is the phone.apk corrupted somehow or is there another explanation?
2. Can I replace it with a new one (if so, how is it done and where can I find a new phone.apk app?)
3. Am a a real idiot for screwing up my phone for good?
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated...
Many thanks in advance.
1. Probably deleted something that the phone.apk needed
2. As the phone apk is not missing replacing it won't help, you would need to restore the file you should not have deleted (first you would need to know which one though)
3. Not at all, maybe a bit overzealous. A factory reset won't restore deleted system apps, it just sets everything to default. Where would i take the deleted apps from anyways?
You could restore deleted system apps by extracting them from a ROM, or just flash a new ROM with ODIN or CWM.
Hi Dark3n,
Thank you for your really quick reply.
Could you advise where I can find a ROM suitable for my GTab?
Secondly, what would be the right procedure to flash this ROM?
Would it be from the CWM Recovery boot?
Thank you for your help, really appreciate it!
G

Hm just google for your current version i suppose "GT-P1000XXJPZ", "XXJPZ" is the version, GT-P1000 your device.
What procedure you use depends on the file type of the rom you found.
Thanks!
I have found a ROM which seems to be the one for my GTab.
It came as a tar file.
File name is P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJQ1_P1000JPZ_HOME.tar
I tried Flashing it through CWM amp but the device simply reboots and nothing happens. Is there a particular procedure to follow?
Sorry to bother you so much but it seems you've got a lot more knowledge about this...
And thank you for your patience too!

CWM doesn't flash TAR files.
It is most likely to be used with ODIN or HEIMDALL software.
There most likely was a description on the procedure, where you got the file from.
Thanks so much!!
Will give it a try and report back...

Hey Dark3n,
It worked!! Thanks so much for helping me on this one!
I flashed it with Odin and it was OK in a few minutes.
So glad to have my GTab back on track!!
I really owe you one.
Thanks so much.

[Q] flashing CM merged rom

Hi, well so i recently came back to peruse new roms. Looked around and read all these things about "jin" and found these CM merged rom and how its the best atm. Coming from GODV2 to try and flash i read in the instructions that i "wipe data and wipe system". Totally a newb here i got hesitant and confused because i was just use to following ayoteddy's instructions. Well basically my questions is, do i really wipe system and data or do just do regular wipe with data and cache? Much appreciated for helping the newb and sorry if its a over asked question

just do what it says it will work... or you can try my rom rage its based of cm merged
for mine just folly teddys instructions
System is the ROM. You do want to wipe/format/erase it before installing a new ROM, because the new ROM will be stored in /system.
Ohhhh, alright i believe you sir and that makes sense. Time to try this out, be back soon with more questions
well... i just realized that there is no specific option to "wife system". I feel pretty retarded for not trying first.

[Q] Reflashing I9003

First Thanks to all of you for supporting I9003, and for helping us noobs
I have th GT-i9003 from like a year, great phone. it came with the LUBKPE stock firmware from entel in chile, and i updated it to XXKPQ following the tutorials here in XDA, also updated the kernel to [email protected] #15, i've got root cwm and a tweaks icon.
The problem is that like 2 weeks ago i installed a program called prey anti theft, after that when i try to enter CWM it just stays in a black screen same for tweaks icon, no problem with root.
So i decided to reflash my phone to get everything working fine. After a lot of reading decided to install the stock DDFL2 thats claimed to be the most stable stock rom for this phone.
1.-My first question is, i have read that i could screw up my emei doing this becouse a band incompatibility with this stock firmware (indian) and the bands used in my country (chile) is this true?? dont know if a got it wrong but thats what i understand of it.
2.-Also i read about making a backup of folders of the phone so in case of something like that happens i could recover it. So how i do this and what i need to backup??
3.- Third i read about bam kernel being better for stock firmwares, and [email protected] for customs is this true?
4.- when reflashing in the steps i read "flash KPE+pit twice", but in another forum i read of flashing KPE+pit and after that just flashing KPE (without pit) which one is the way to do it??
5.- and last, the wipe cache, clear cache and dalvik cache is done after the first boot, before i adjust my phone parameters?,or after that?, or before it first boot?? the first time id never did this but is said to be useful.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and for ur replys.
PD: and for rooting ddfl2 is best bagaria? ddfl2-cfroot? cfroot.apk? superoneclick? Thanks!

1)As far as I know ddlf2 is universal stock rom.. it wont screw up ur imei.. Bt S.. It has been designed for indian phns.. U might lost local language supprt/app etc on ur fone.. if u face any prblms, u can easily revert back to original rom using nandroid backup..
2)Jst root ur phone with cfroot(which installs cwm as well) using odin.. Then go to recovery mode >backup & restore>nandroid backup
3)I don no vch kernel is better.. Its purely depends upon ur usage/preference.. So try every kernel on ur phone atleat one week then compare the petformance.
4) I suggest flashing kpe with 4 files twice.. it will clean off ur phone..
5) can do it whenever u wnt..

The i9003L and i9003 are the same phone, the "L" means it has a diferent modem, but the specs are the same and their roms are also the same. Also The L or Latona is for "Latin America"/Latinoamérica. So thanks again and sorry for my bad english!

Since you are from Chile, you need the modem for your country.

Thanks for ur replyes they really helped me out.
That means that after i flash the DDFL2 rom i have to flash the Modem.tar.md5 file of the xxKPE, and with this i activate the bands of my country?
And also i have read that people with the SCL version of the phone dont need to do this, but the ones with the L version do. Thats real and how i know wich version i have? i have read of a guy that claims that his L version phone transformed into SCL... dont really know what this means.
Thanks.

[Q] Update to new baseband

i know im really late on updating to the new baseband and i also used the search function to see if there was anything about this .. also sorry in advance if this is wrong spot. However i digress, my question is how do i update my baseband? im looking to go on to VRBLK3 but.. the deal is this .. im rooted and have an unlocked boot loader and have a custom rom on my phone .. of course .. now i was wondering if anyone knew how to update the boot loader properly .... and what steps i should take .. or if there is a guide or something please lemme know .......
also its a real pain in the ass to have to restore all of my data every time i put a custom rom on my phone .. like my homescreen settings and things of that nature ... is there something tha backs it all up .. everything.. so that when i put a new rom on i dont have to sit there and make a new homescreen everytime .. im anal about it because i have all my apps in specific locations as to .. how i use them ...thanks in adavnce chers

apps/loss
welp i certainly can agree with you about replacing everything at every turn but theres a backup called "Titanium" that some swear by as the best way to back up and return the apps you want. I myself having no certain apps that are all that important just reflash and sometimes i do a factory/user reset. losing everything have only had one app that changed from a freebie to a pay version while i was in the middle of reflashing. So i lost that app.. a good turket call. oh well, other than that i find i usuall reload and try some new apps.. even though i have used "Titanium Backup" to do a backup, I've never used it to reload my apps..
in your case that would be where i started .. its a freebie as of now, but you must be "rooted" to use it...
good luck on all the reworks, but if we were satisfied before why do we flash a new rom to restart with.
Download the K3 modem and rpm (found on rootzwiki) and flash in recovery. No wiping needed.

[Q] Accidentally wiped my system.. Help!!!

1st of all, i am a beginner. Just brought my android ics phone last month. I also rooted my phone by the help of my friend last week. But yesterday i was trying to restore factory settings. But i accidentally wiped my system. And now my phone wont boot. It stuck in BootScreen. Nothing happens then. I dont have the backup of my rom. what to do now ??? Please help!! Sorry for my bad English & Thanks in advance who wanna help me
..
What recovery are you using? Even if you wiped the phone you should still have it running. All you need to do is reboot in recovery mode. Hard to tell you how as I dunno what the phone is.
Before that you'll need to download your stock firmware and put it on the root directory of your SD card if you have one, so that once in recovery you'll actually have something to flash.
If the phone doesn't have a SD slot, then you'll need to use a recovery tool on your PC to flash it.
Right now shut the phone down, remove the battery, find some guides specific about your phone, and read them carefully. There's a reason why we're using recoveries. First thing you should have done is to backup your stock firmware somewhere on your computer or on the cloud, and make sure you knew how to use it if something like that was to happen... Little late for that now.
When you'll know what to do, just mind that you still have enough battery to flash the stock ROM. Come back to ask help here if there's something you don't understand. Good luck!

No problem. Just install this partition manager free. It is perfectly adapted for windows 8. And you are offered a variety of options which can swap/merge/separate new partitions. With a very easy-to-understand instructions, everything is perfect!
Thanks for kindly reply
