Ok if anyone can help me out on this. I would like to put a list of things you Need to do AFTER rooting your Inspire. Long story short I looked around countless of thread and find bits of pieces of things to do after your root.
Just would like to start something where this is a list to what you need to do after your done. So if ANYONE can help me out and may help others out with just the same ?s. This would be awesome. I know there are somethings like Titanium back up, ROM Manager, ClockWork. But if anyone can help put this together. Thank you.
Also if you have any videos that you can share that shows how to install something(because who does not like a Tut Video lol) rather it be a ROM or making a NANDOID(if thats right) backup if you need or not maybe just some how To's because I had to Root back to stock and this [ROM] AT&T Stock ROM - Sense [Unroot] and the user helped me out, thanks again friend, very informative.
thanks again for any help hints and walk throughs.
I for got to add this in once your done rooting you can check it with super user to see if everything is good. Also I found these guys to become very helpful major Props to them.. ANDROID Applications (How-To Backup & Restore) Titanium Backup just look that up on youtube or something
Not trying to be mean, but did you even take a look at the guide? I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember there being a video posted there.
As for what you do after you root your phone, you can flash a rom if you want... I mean its really a subjective question..
yes I looked just any video dealing with the inspire I hoping that this thread could kind of be one place for some ?s I see all over the place but its worth a shot to see if it turns out that way but for others that see the title of this thread could get some help with out ppl being "mean" for a ?s thats been asked and yes there is a search bar but...hey not everyone use it as much as we reply with "There is a search bar you know" or any other remark..
So Im hoping with that said that this thread could help other out with some Very common ?s. Because other user dont see a thread that looks like what they are looking for so others make a thread asking ?s that has been asked many times so with in time maybe this could help a lot of others.. Idk we will see..
Also after seeing a lot of videos about this there is so many different things that are said to do or to get and its get confusing and I can see how it could throw some user off..Because what through me off is the Making of a Nanadoid back up.. I kind of still dont know how lol.
That would be why the guide is stickied at the top its meant to be a one stop shop for "new rooters". There is about 20 pages of questions and answers, and many of the members will stop by and answer including devs.
And there a four videos posted in the opening post, one for the hack kit (outdated) and one for bubbys root method. There are also two other videos one that shows you how to recover from a soft brick, and how to flash a rom (including a nandroid back up).
The main reason for the guide to be stickied was to elevate the general forum, from getting a lot of redundant questions, which it has helped.
To answer your question, after you root you really don't have to do anything. As I said before you can flash a rom and make a nandroid backup, which is covered in the guide. You can flash a radio, which there is also a link to the thread for this. You can flash a theme for a rom, which is generally the same as flashing a rom. You can install market apps that require root access.
The only thing that "would/should be" required after rooting would be flashing a recovery ie. clock work mod recovery, which is covered in both rooting processes.
As I said before I am not trying to be mean or rude, but that is kind of why the guide was stickied.
I got you chief.. And I dont take it anything personal its the internet LOL! but If you dont mind can you past the link about making that nanadoid back up. and btw your not the only one with videos more then four. But yeah I hear about the same ?s being asked and yea your thread is like 300+ with a lot lol.. but Idk was hoping that this could be more organized I see that you have a lot of fixes and radios..etc..good stuff though.
I hope Im not steeling you thunder for post..

A nandoid back up is as simple as this...
Assuming you're rooted, and haven't flashed cwr yet...
Download ROM manager
Open it and choose flash clockwork recovery.
Once that's done, choose backup current rom
Provide a name for your backup
Let it reboot and do the backup.
If you already have clockwork recovery flashed, you can reboot into recovery and select the appropriate menu choice, though if you initiate the backup directly from cwr, I don't think it let's you choose the name.

That's correct, but the backups are stored in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/$datecode$ It's very easy to rename them after the fact.... so long as you do it within a reasonable time period.
you can also do it from rom manager and name the backup.
sweet.. I just re rooted like an hour ago just re setting some stuff up
Hello everyone!
As you can see I am a noobie and I hope I am doing the right thing to start a new thread. I searched the previous posts but couldn't find any related topic.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7", GT-P1000XXJPZ, Gingerbread 2.3.3, Kernel 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2, Build GINGERBREAD.XX1Q1, rooted with Odin, installed CWM, Superuser and Terminal Emulator. I have then deleted many system apps but NOT the phone.apk nor any phone related system apps.
Everything worked perfectly but then suddenly one morning the GTab started showing a popup notice after ending every phone call reporting an error in com.android.phone process and the only option is to Force Close it.
After this the app restarts and I'm able to make and take phone calls, but the bluetooth earpiece does not connect anymore until I reboot the Tab.
Everything else works perfectly and the Tab is now flying with 259MB of free memory.
I even tried wiping everything and restore factory settings but no luck...
So, the questions are:
1. Is the phone.apk corrupted somehow or is there another explanation?
2. Can I replace it with a new one (if so, how is it done and where can I find a new phone.apk app?)
3. Am a a real idiot for screwing up my phone for good?
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated...
Many thanks in advance.
1. Probably deleted something that the phone.apk needed
2. As the phone apk is not missing replacing it won't help, you would need to restore the file you should not have deleted (first you would need to know which one though)
3. Not at all, maybe a bit overzealous. A factory reset won't restore deleted system apps, it just sets everything to default. Where would i take the deleted apps from anyways?
You could restore deleted system apps by extracting them from a ROM, or just flash a new ROM with ODIN or CWM.
Hi Dark3n,
Thank you for your really quick reply.
Could you advise where I can find a ROM suitable for my GTab?
Secondly, what would be the right procedure to flash this ROM?
Would it be from the CWM Recovery boot?
Thank you for your help, really appreciate it!
G

Hm just google for your current version i suppose "GT-P1000XXJPZ", "XXJPZ" is the version, GT-P1000 your device.
What procedure you use depends on the file type of the rom you found.
Thanks!
I have found a ROM which seems to be the one for my GTab.
It came as a tar file.
File name is P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJQ1_P1000JPZ_HOME.tar
I tried Flashing it through CWM amp but the device simply reboots and nothing happens. Is there a particular procedure to follow?
Sorry to bother you so much but it seems you've got a lot more knowledge about this...
And thank you for your patience too!
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
CWM doesn't flash TAR files.
It is most likely to be used with ODIN or HEIMDALL software.
There most likely was a description on the procedure, where you got the file from.
Thanks so much!!
Will give it a try and report back...

Hey Dark3n,
It worked!! Thanks so much for helping me on this one!
I flashed it with Odin and it was OK in a few minutes.
So glad to have my GTab back on track!!
I really owe you one.
Thanks so much.

Ok. First let me say a long time ago when Coredroid 8.1 had kinda first came out. I tried to flash the Unity Kernel I believe. It just stuck my phone at the HTC logo screen. So i said forget it and tried to go back but couldnt. So sumbody helped me to get pdgimg.zip (think thats how u spell it im in a rush) file and told me how to install it so my phone would come back up normally. <--now its slip my mind how too.. So any who.
Well i am having the same problem again except i flashed lordmod 5.6. Now that has stuck my phone as well. So once again i need help to clear this situation by gettin the pdgimg.zip file or answerin a questionable thought i have. Could i actually reflash Cordroid 8.1 over the Same CD 8.1 again and not loose text messages or anything installed up to this point ?

Please search first since there are a lot of threads that will get you that pd98img.zip. I'm pretty sure Ze has a stock thread open that gives you links to the PD98IMG.zip that can be flashed through HBOOT...if not like I said search as there are a lot of threads out there that can get you what you need.
As for stuck, please be more specific so we can better help you out. Can you get into HBOOT? can you get into recovery through HBOOT? do you have pd98img.zip already on your sdcard?
well actually i did research. but its not actually wat i was looking to do in general.
i was specific about how i was stuck and a thought i had to see if it could be done. But i would rather you just say be more detailed. With that said. Im running Coredroid 8.1. I have been having the stuck at the htc logo screen and having to pull the battery when i do decide to restart my phone. (which i been had the problem but it was never fixed) I have seen multiple of kernels to flash to stop the stuck at the htc logo screen. Basically i tried this b4 and it didnt work and i tried it again and it didnt work. I flashed lordmod 5.6 kernel this time by the way. So my question was is this fixable to the point where i actually could flash a kernel and it wouldnt stay stuck at the htc screen *FOREVER* or is there no chance ? But since i didnt wait i ended up reflashing Coredroid 8.1 again so i could get my phone back working thinking i might not loose anything. But i did.
but to answer yo question i can get into recovery.
You can't just flash any kernel.I have a feeling that your trying to flash an aosp kernel on a sense rom, which as you have discovered your not suppose to do. I'm not sure which kernels work with coredroid but I would read up on the thread to see what other people have tried
Any reason why you have not backed up apps and SMS, full wipe, and install fresh? I use Titanium Backup for backing up my apps and system data, and SMS Backup & Restore (free on market) to backup and restore my texts. Use google or HTC Sync or whomever to keep your calendar and contacts backed up.
It's a little bit of a process, but I'm more than certain it would help fix your issue. Seems there's something latent that's causing a hang up that needs to be cleared out. You could troubleshoot that all day long and never get a fix. Just start fresh.

HAHA, I absolutely love how every person gets sooo defensive when someone tries to help them. Stop taking everything so personal. I said research more because it seems you flashed an AOSP kernel to a sense ROM. This is a common mistake for Lordmod kernel flashers and I'm guilty of it myself. I answered everything but the MMS back-up. There is no need for a PD98IMG.zip if you can into recovery, which is exactly why I asked if you could provide more detail because if you can get into recovery, you don't need to go through the HBOOT method of flashing a stock ROM. Did you back-up your ROM before flashing the kernel like recommended, because if you did then you could just restore your back-up from recovery and back-up your MMS.

sorry if u thought that was defensive O_O ? i just responded more directly because u asked. i sort of had a quick question and thought i would get a quick answer. that is all really. But i did not back up my room before the kernel flash because i was actually in the coredroid forum and was seeing ppl sayin wat room to flash to stop the hang at the boot screen. So i thought maybe it would work. But since it didnt my nly question would be which kernel would work at this point so i could ? if possible ? if not then i can deal with it. not problem. mistakes are made and lessons are learned.

Understandable, like I said I've flashed AOSP kernels to Sense ROMs and it's never a great combo. ever, lol. When I used CD 8.1 I was using the Unity Kernel as well, but that was like 3 months ago and since i believe there has been some updates to that kernel. I know I had some good luck with RCMix kernels as well.

So could the Unity Kernel Or RCMix Kernel cure my problem ? Thats the only thing left for me to try i believe. Plus it would be which kernel update is the right one.

Tough to say really, I know I had this problem when I flashing kernels when i first started with AOSP ROMs, what I learned was to not mess with them. I would say try to latest RCMIX kernel and see if that helps. If it doesn't. Full wipe and reflash CD 8.1 and see if the problems persists..It may just be worth it not to flash a kernel haha, I know that's not really a solution but at least your phone won't be hanging on the white screen.

I want to add that reading the sticky threads is very important!
Flashing is dangerous, and you are doing something wrong if nothing changed, you should be very grateful that you didn't brick your device yet!
Take a look at the sticky threads, they really contain tons of information that will get you started and clear most of the questions and doubts you had!
I've run into this problem a few times myself usually because I was being silly. To help I'll need a bit of info from you elghandor.
1. What do you mean by it doesn't 'look different'? I hope you actually checked the ROM version under Settings - About Phone. It may sound like a silly question but if you're only flashing an incremental stock ROM update. You won't see many noticeable differences in the UI that would make it 'Look Different.
2. I noticed you said it looks the same after Factory/Data Reset. Well that's the thing, it will look the same. Factory/Data Reset only clears your user data but doesn't erase the actual phone ROM. Just doing a factory reset won't change the base ROM or the apps that came with it. They'll still be there.
I also hope you're not doing a Factory/Data Reset AFTER flashing a new ROM? If you are don't. You only need a hard reset when going to a totally new ROM and you do that BEFORE flashing. If you were to do that a Factory Reset after flashing a new ROM you'd just destroy all your work and bounce back to the base ROM. I did this once when I did a Factory reset after installing MIUI and I was immediately bounced back to base XXKPE.
Anyway that's just some advice. Like the others said we'll need more info to give you proper help.
PS: To any others, if any mistakes in my post please correct me. All my experience with flashing ROMs comes from trial and error personally not an expert by any means

no I haven't...
so far , what I did is
root the pone with the one clicker (wich was a success)
did the recovery with the clockworkmod recovery thing,
restarted and exectued this website's tutorial to jellybean (start with WWW stuff.androidauthority.com/g2x-p999-t-mobile-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-unofficial-115536)
and then, look like it failed..
this morning, I managed to get back to the recovery boot screen and found that if I press the house icon it show up a menu.. but this menu giving me access to reboot, wipe cache, data or install update.zip (which was supposed to fix my problem) but this menu is blued out and unaccessible..
dunno if it helped..
right now, I am trying to get acces to my phone doing the no battery boot thing but my pc doesnt seem to recognize my phone + I am at work hehe so I am pretty much limited in acces due tu the it protection and firewall stuff
I am gonna try to redo that stuff tonight at home but meanwhile, if any of what I described may give you a clue on how to help me, I really appreciate the effort!

I say you needed to use the g2x android development forums on this site to find a suitable jb rom, not this other site. The one click method isn't very stable, so nvflash is most definitely what you need to try to get working. There are very thorough tutorials on how to get that to work. Do you know which clockwork recovery version you have installed? Should be 5.0.2.0. Once you get home, I suggest you read read read. Do as much research you can to make sure you can follow nvflash instructions to the letter. I know I personally spent about a week researching to make sure I had a solid understanding of the procedure.
I recommend getting nvflash going to get clockwork properly installed, then download a rom from xda, nowhere else. I would even say use a gb rom before trying a jb ...the jb roms are hackfest versions, so they have (from my experience) much poorer battery life, and lack hardware acceleration. Netflix and many 3d games won't work. You can use adampk or mazout's roms but they don't have working radio, i.e. no phone/SMS functionality.

Boot into recovery, there should be an option to format or wipe system. Do that then flash the ROM. It won't boot if you flash it over stock.
Also, use the paranoid android rom found in the development section, same cyanogenmod base but works better.

My main issue was the APX driver wich wasnt installed.. now I know bit more, I still have issue but luckily things goes forward so it gave me the boost to keep working on

I am from montreal and here in quebec we have videotron instead of t-mobile and since I used a t-mobile boot it looks like my sim card is not recognized anymore..

Click to collapse
What do you mean by "T-Mobile boot" and "videotron thing?"

Ok, wait I think I understand what you're saying now. If you can, pm the op of that thread you used to unbrick. Ask that person if you need some kind of different file in that .zip file to work on your carrier.
I remember having to use that guide to get back to stock. Glad to see you're making progress. I know it can be frustrating when devices get wacky. Good luck!

hehehe sorry, I am not fully used to the right terms so I rather stay in the gray zone by using words like ''thing''
but I can now oficially say I was talking about ROMs
finally, I managed to bring back my phone to the stock mode everything seem to work!
now I can brick it again!
thx for the help!
I began to wonder if it was just a matter of changing APN settings?
