I installed BeanStalk a couple days ago (note: I'm not blaming BeanStalk or think it is a BeanStalk issue, rather I believe it to be an issue with my battery or hardware) and yesterday I got a random reboot. Looking at the phone, I see the initial Samsung screen followed by the Galaxy S/CyanogenMod screen. The two would continually repeat. I removed the battery and as soon as I place it back in, the cycle starts over again. I don't even have to press power for it to turn on. Once I got home, I plugged the phone into my charger and it starts to charge and it turns on.
Today, it happens again. This time however, the phone won't charge at all. If I plug it into a charger, I see the battery icon and it then goes away. This is followed by the wheeled progress icon. That too goes away and the cycle repeats.
Has anyone else experienced this (a search wasn't fruitful)? I should have a new battery in a couple days. In the mean time, I've started using my N900 again. What a great device it is! Truly a shame Nokia didn't go Android.
Thanks,
cesman
Sounds like power button problem( if held it restarts phone over and over and over till button no longer is pressed)

Thanks for the replies. I found the thread and the site to order a new button. I'll take the phone apart and see what I can do about cleaning it first...

I heated the joints around the button as suggested in one of the threads. This unfortunately didn't work. I found a shop near me that was able to replace the button. Funny thing, the guy in line front of my also has an Infuse and had the same problem.

Hey everyone. I bought a Desire S about 6 months ago and I've loved it until the last few days. It has started switching off with no warning at all, just suddenly a completely black screen. Sometimes it does it while I'm using it, for example while writing a text, or sometimes I get it out of my pocket and notice it's dead.
It will then only power on when it is plugged in. If it's not plugged in pressing/holding the power button does absolutely nothing. When it's plugged in it still powers off randomly. I'm not sure if it's just a problem with the battery, because if I'm not mistaken the phone should at least boot to the first screen if there's power? The battery is reading as full or almost full though, and I've had it plugged in a lot and it still happens soon after, with the battery reading 80 or 90 percent.
I've not modded it at all, S-OFF'd it or anything like that. It's completely stock and was bought brand new.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it but when it powers off while plugged in a system report is put together. If I read the report and scroll all the way to the bottom the last entry is a function call relating to the vibrate feature, and now that I think about it the instant it has shut off has been when I've been pressing a button (eg texting) which triggers the vibrate. It doesn't explain shutting off in my pocket though.
I'm on Android 2.3.3 and HTC Sense 2.1.
All help greatly appreciated!
It does sound like a duff battery. I suppose it may be worth getting a cheap non HTC replacement one just to test the theory. But from your description, you should also be in warranty. See if they can be talked into sending you out a free battery, or consider repair. Can take a few Weeks though.

Hi all,
Right, my phone isn't rooted as I just sent it off to HTC to have a look at - to no avail - they may just have reloaded the ROM which was wonderful
Anyway, for a while now I've been having issues whereby, normally whilst the phone is on low battery (~15%), pressing the power button to wake the phone will result in the screen staying black, before after 2 seconds, rebooting to the HTC logo.
I expected this to be a hardware error, so simply loaded my apps and settings back on as soon as it was returned. Is there any possibility that it may be something other than a hardware error that could cause this reboot, such as the SIM card or a particular app?
It's absolutely doing my nut in
Cheers,
James

Tried with two batteries, tries wiping the battery stats. Also occasionally happens with high charge so it doesn't seem a battery issue.
Cheers though.
I'm having a similar issue from time to time. I've been lucky enough to not have this issue for the last 4 weeks or so but 3-4 days ago it came back. But I think I solved it, at least temporarily.
Next time it crashes, remove the battery and while the back cover is off, press and hold the power button for ~10 seconds to drain what little power is left. Then put the battery and cover back on but don't turn the phone on. Instead, charge it until the led turns green. I'm not sure if this really is a fix but since I did this it hasn't crashed. I remember doing something similar back in January and it seemed to fix the issue then too. But it seems to come back over a period of weeks/months.
PS. Now that I think of it, maybe you don't have to wait for it to crash. Just turn it off and go through the steps and see if it helps.

Hi, i know this is an old thread, but I have the exact same problem on my Desire S. So i'm wondering if you ever solved this problem?
When you press the wake button, the phone doesnt restart, it just boots up. It is quite a known issue. There seem to be a design flaw that makes the battery just a little bit loose. So little that its not really noticealble, but enough to.cause the phone to turn off randomly. The solution is to place a.little piece of paper on the opposite site.from the battery connector pins. It makes the battery hold really tight, and ive never had this issue ever again.
Hope.i.could help.

I had similar prob
I used to have lots and lots of apps installed on my phone ALONG with all the tmobile apps since my phone is NOT rooted.
At some point on, my phone would constantly reboot from the white screen with HTC logo.
Then I thought maybe i'm over doing my phone, so I tried uninstalling some of the apps that I don't use as often.
It helped me...
hope it helps you too =]
Look for a video named "HTC sensation random shutdowns/reboots problem SOLVED" on Youtube. I can't post any link as I'm a new user, but this simple fix worked for me!
Apparently this issue has nothing to do with software updates or custom roms. It is just a design flaw that prevents the battery from connecting completely to the pins
So the wife and I were out eating and my phone died. Came home, plugged it up and there was no red led charge indicator..... waited..... and waited.... it's been an hour now, still nothing. If I hold power the capacitive buttons just flash white and go off.
Any ideas on how to bring this thing back to life?.... I purchased from Amazon 2 weeks again and really need a phone now as I have no other phone.
Make sure you are using the original wall charger that comes with the phone.

Press the power button for 2-3 seconds and let go, wait about 5 seconds for it to turn on.....or press and hold volume down and power until the lights blink 6 times then release ONLY the power button. Hold volume button until screen turns on, then using the volume buttons highlight fastboot, press power button to select, then highlight reboot and press power again that'll get u going again

You will need to replace your phone. Search the forums and you will find a thread or two about this same problem. I had to return my phone because of the same exact problem. The only solution is to completely let the battery die and then recharge for 30 minutes to an hour and then the phone should turn on. But I highly recommend you get it exchanged because the next time you use it, it will suddenly turn off while there is still some battery left and you will have to let the battery die.
same problem. gotta get htc to replace dat shiet.
Leave it on the charger for several hours, wall charger not USB, and see if it helps.
Could be various things. But one thing that has happened to some people, on various Android phones, is that the battery voltage may have dropped too low. Not zero, but too low for the phone to take a charge. In that case, there is no way to bring the battery back to life, except with special battery meters with a "boost" function (which most of use don't have access to). Leaving it on the wall charger has brought phones back for a few people. Its a longshot, but can't hurt.
Safety circuit is supposed to prevent voltage from dropping too low like this. But its not fail safe.
I know that is not what the OP is doing, just a sidenote: Some people will suggest draining the phone until it shuts down to calibrate the battery meter Its a poor idea, for the reason that the safety circuit may not always work properly. When calibrating the meter, its more than sufficient to drain to 10-20%. The meter is not that accurate anyway, and draining to zero doesn't make it any more accurate than 10-20%.
i tried that all, letting it die. letting it charge, everything.
Press and hold the power button while plugging the charger in

It comes up as apx? Have u tried
Adb devices
and
fastboot devices
While plugged in to see if either recognize it??
if one of them do than this should be a simple fix.
If adb recognizes it then
adb reboot
If fastboot recognizes it do
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
i tried adb devices and fastboot devices while plugged in and neither recognize it you gave me a sliver of hope

No worries.
Mine did the same thing. Went 100% dead. After a few random reboots the days leading up, it finally went off when I noticed it had really low battery. Never to come back on.
Not even getting the red light at the top so put it in for a repair through my Telco (Telstra), (who are apparently the authorised repairer for HTC in Aus) and the mainboard was replaced. Got it back a week later fixed.
Phone had been unlocked through HTCDev but had no issues with warranty. Obviously a hardware fault as couldn't even boot.
on other phones i find using a charger that doesn't have a removable usb cable works well, and don't try to charge it from the computer.

after one hour of wall-plugging, the unit gains some heat around the camera, but no signs of charging...damn, guess I have to ask for replacement...
eh...did you root/unlock bootloader/flash roms?
I'm kinda worried that Rogers will give me a hassle for that...although it's a battery problem...
nvm...need to work on my reading skills...so unlocking bootloader is fine....
So about 2 weeks ago, i rooted my phone and flashed over the nightly version of CWM. Ran fine for about a week, afterwards i noticed a big battery drain. Then started the freezes, and finally the random restarting. During this time, it would commonly get my battery percentage wrong( Ex: It would say 20% but then die. I would turn it back on and it would say 5. Take out the battery, put it back in, and it would say something like 12%.) Yesterday, i had about 20% left, and it just turns off. Wont turn back on. I get home, plug it up, and its in a charging screen boot loop. Plug in-Go to charging screen-Turn off-repeat. It will do that repeatedly, as long as it's plugged in. I've looked it up, and it looks like it's the SDS (Sudden Death Syndrome) and that Samsung can only fix it under warranty. The problem is, I didn't get this through a carrier contract, i bout it basically new online. Any help? Anyone have advice on how to fix it, or what to do?
Odin back to stock and see if it still happens.

Right guys,
I was just updating some apps on my One X, left it to its business and came back and it had turned off, so turned it on and it seems to load to the lock screen and then the screen goes blank and the phone turns off.
I have had it on charge (mains), tried the recovery, that doesn't help and I have tried a factory reset (when you hold the power and volume button) that doesn't work either.
Every time, just about gets to the lock screen freezes, goes blank and turns off.
It is totally stock software and hardware.
Locked to EE (Orange) network in the UK
Any help please?

Sorry, it is totally stock, not rooted or anything like that.
Just edited my first post too, sorry I was in a rush when I wrote it.
More info:
I have noticed that sometimes the little LED flashes red then green then pauses and repeats. I have seen this is an overheating problem?! The phone feels cool/warm to the touch, I know when playing the odd game the back of the phone gets really warm and it's no where near as warm as it can get.
More info:
Had it on charge overnight from the mains and it doesn't appear to have taken any charge, when it loads the lock screen it will show the battery level and when I press the power & volume buttons it tell me the battery level is too low.
Thanks again!
Mike
I've been having the same kinds of problems for months now.
I only use my OneXL for app testing fortunately, if I needed it as a normal phone I'd have given up and bought something new.
It often reboots after an hour or 2, even if it's doing "nothing", not even running any app after a restart.
Maybe it's overheating or something, but it seems more random to me. I was going to say that smacking it a bit doesn't cause any problem, but I just tried it now and it died. So maybe a PCB is cracked or there's some cold solder joints.
And yeah, the phone acts like the battery is dead. Again tonight I tried to boot it several times before it started up OK. It can end up dead but "powered" so I have to remove USB plug and hold power down 10-20 seconds to boot again.
I dunno, to me the phone is just broken, in effect.
I have had this same problem in the past with mine. Try disassembling it and pulling the battery.. then reassemble and see if that works, or could be a faulty power button

Hmm.
I just updated with the latest RUU for the HBoot or whatever, and it looks like the reboots may have stopped !
