[Q] Bricked i727, flashed wrong image, please help. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi there.
My friend tried to flash a i9100 image to his i727 (Samsung Skyrocket on Rogers). It froze during the right. Now when I try to boot it or do anything, it is totally unresponsive and the screen is completely black. Shows up as a yellow exclamation mark in USBView.exe. I have tried every button combination I know to set it into download mode, pulled the battery, plugged and replugged the USB cable. But it's still black and nothing shows up in Odin.
Just want to know if there's anything else I can do, and if anyone knows about JTAG procedures for this phone. Thanks

It's a hard brick. If you check out vincom's stickies, I believe one of them has information on a guy who'll JTAG it for $50. Alternatively, if your friend's still within a year of purchase, you could just warranty the thing out to Sammy. If it won't turn on, they'll probably never be able to see that it was rooted/custom firmware/etc.

Thanks for the quick response. How do you know its a hard brick?
My friend is considering buying the GS4 but the release date is 5 months from now, so its either fix this or replace it.
Rather than shipping it to the USA and back from Canada, could I possibly JTAG it myself? I have flashed Xbox 360 and modem chips before.
I'm guessing cell phone repair shops generally do not handle JTAG issues.
Thanks for your help.

How to unbrick Samsung droid Charge!!

Hey guys found a way to unbrick Samsung droid charge and revert back to stock.
1. Download and install Odin found here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085190 ) unzip and open
2.Download this file and unzip ( CI510_VZW_EE4_ALL_ONE-LTE-CP_REV03_user_CL1014954.tar.md5.7z) from here ( http://www.multiupload.com/6WJ2SFUKO6 ) or original thread where i found this file is from here ( http://androidflip.com/android-2-3-...are-on-samsung-droid-charge-installing-guide/ )..
In case it fails and it just keeps failing try this other file is not stock but it is 2.3.4 and it works great here is a link to find the file ( http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5PUB8UY7 ) and it also find a mirror download here ( https://rapidshare.com/#!download|9...ar.md5.7z|391371|RapidPro expired. (34fa3175) ) i tried it guys and it does work.
3. set phone to download mode, do this by taking battery of phone, plug phone into computer and hold Volume down, a Yellow triangle with a working android will appear.
4. Click on odin you will see your phone come up under ID:COM, now do not click on anywhere but on PDA thats where you will have to find the file you downloaded on step 2 and make sure is the unzipped file. once u find it, click on open then start.
5. Be patient this can take up some time, once is done the box will turn green and say pass, at this time your phone will no longer have the Yellow triangle and you can unplug and place the battery back in and turn phone on.. once again be patient when turning phone on it will take a little while to complete.
i tried this and it does work, my Droid charge was bricked and now it works.
Thanks to xda-developers where i was able to find odin and also thanks to androidflip.com where i was able to find the Droid Charge stock rom to flash it back using odin.
Hope this helped everyone needing help.
Thanks for posting this, but it isn't the end-all-be-all. I tried to recover from a bad flash using this method and it failed.
I got the error message seen in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111486
The method in that post failed to help me recover.
I finally found this method (which is linked much later on in the thread above):
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...harge-full-factory-tar-flashing-software.html
and it worked perfectly for me.
So, if the first method from the OP fails, you have the Samsung PST flash utility that may help.
Yea i was also getting that message at first but it worked fine, but i also ended up installing the 2.3.4 so it worked out well.. was able to fix and unbrick my Droid charge.
I think this is already in a thread here...

We've known about this for a while, but thanks. There's a "How to fix your phone" thread in development which also includes a pit file you use in combination with that .md5
Also, you were probably just bootlooped, not bricked.
Thanks Guys for the input. I thought i was bricked, looked to me i was bricked... But i did this steps and was able to fix my droid charge... I did bot know there was a threath about this on here.. just trying to help people fix their phone if this can be helpful for them that's good.

look in the dev section for the 'Unbrickable Mod', theres a guy who'll do it for 40 bucks I think
I thought being bricked meant not being able to get into even Download Mode.

yeah but even then its not completely hopeless, there are USB jigs that can force it into download mode and this 'Unbrickable Mod' thing that requires tinkering with the internals which is supposedly fool proof

I've seen the term "bricked" thrown about a lot so I'm going to clarify some things.
First of all, there are two types of brick, a soft-brick and a hard-brick.
Soft-brick, that's what people often say when they have a boot-loop. This isn't a brick in the traditional sense. It's not really a brick, you can still recover it if you're at this stage. As long as you can get to the screen with the big yellow triangle you're not bricked at all and you can recover it.
Hard-brick, this is a true brick. This is what happens when the phone will not do anything. Won't show the Samsung logo, won't show the yellow triangle screen, won't do anything at all. At this stage, it might as well be a brick because you can't do anything to it. JTAG should be able to reload the bootloader and the base firmware.

well that's bootlooping not a soft brick, a soft brick would be when you flash something wrong or stop odin mid flash or flash something corrupted then get that little "phone --- ! --- pc" thing (done it twice myself) but yes it is recoverable
permabrick is indeed when it won't power on or do anything, it is a paperweight
hard brick is usually when it won't go into download mode but may still boot up or even go into recovery (probably just bootloops though), however as I mentioned in my last post none of these situations are completely hopeless

Am i bricked...

While I was flashing a ROM (Synergy1.3), my wife decided to move my phone to another table. When i looked at it a few minutes later, the screen was blank. Now it wont turn on at all. I had used that particular ROM before without any problems. My battery was at 90% when i started to flash. I have a terrible feeling i am bricked. Any ideas?

yes, also tried charging it from wall charger ans USB. I get this error when plugging into USB (QHSUSB_DLOAD)
It's hard to brick a phone. Worst case, boot into download mode and Odin up the stock image.
If you can't access Download mode, you've most likely bricked as any research I've done points to it. If you've got insurance you can pay the premium, or send it to one of the JTAG services for repair (such as MobileTechVideos).
Just don't leave or touch the phone next time when you're flashing!
With my case it's hard to hit the buttons for recovery and download. I created across to get to them. Not what you're wanting to here. But here's a tip: if you can get adb to recognize your phone but can't use buttons to get into download mode you can "adb shell" and then "reboot download". That will cause the phone to boot download/Odin mode. Hopefully that will work and you can flash back to stock.

If you cant get to download mode or get adb to recognize when properly set up you do probably have a brick. What's happening to you with the warning happened to my friend on Sprint while accidentally flashing a ROM for a different phone. What he had to do was send it in to MobileTechVideos and got it repaired for around 60$. Samsung/Verizon wont likely fix them under warranty.
My only question is if you indeed were flashing synergy, how did a system ROM brick a device. o_0 And hell even if it was another phones ROM wouldn't our locked bootloader deny overwriting?

I think this might also work for you, if the battery charging icon comes on while your charging it then this might work. When you have it connected and the charging icon comes on put it in download mode(do not unplug it until your in download mode). Then use odin to flash it back to stock. It happen to me ones and when i did this it work for me, so i don't know if this will work for you. (Sorry for my grammar)

Reviving my bricked P500

This is my first post at XDA. I don't know if I am in the right section. Kindly move the post if required.
Problem
1) I had my Optimus One running CM9.
2) It made my phone slow. So, I flashed it back to CM7.
3) It had some problems, so i was foolish enough to move it back to Gingerbread instead of restoring to CM9.
4) This is where my phone started acting strange. It was getting into a boot loop.
5) I then tried to fix it using some tools I don't remember, but since then it has been dead.
The phone is dead. The phone won't turn on. Not even in emergency mode. No response when charger or USB is connected. It just wont turn on.
It was about 4 months ago when I bricked my phone and had lost hope. I have now known it's hard living without an android.
Please let me know how i can fix this and revive my bricked phone.
Some of you may have a good laugh reading this. But I already have tears in my eyes.:crying:
I dont remember what all i did to my phone in order to brick it. So, please help in whatever way you can.
Thanks to everyone in advance.

It's an LG phone right?.. I also agree to Repair at the service center of your phone.. I recommend that because it's hard bricked.. When I was a newbie and accidentally soft bricked my galaxy pocket (bootloop) I bring it to the samsung service center I thought it will coast some bucks but it's free, they just reformat my phone for One hour and it's now fixed.. but now I use Odin for reformatting my phone using stock firmwares..

How to get into download mode? I dont really know if it would go into download mode.
Hmm , hopes are less but lets go on with the basics .
Did you try changing the battery ?
I don't think the download mode would work either but try doing the following :
Plug in the USB cable and wait for the charging screen to come on.
Now Press and HOLD the following Keys in the same order: Return Button, Volume Down Button, and the Power Button.
Let go off all the buttons when you first see the LG logo.
Then install cm9 again with odin .
If none works then you either have to go with a new phone or maybe a simple part of the phone has become dead . If it's under warranty get it replaced / repaired .

[Q] Dead phone - how to revive

I have a stock AT&T S2 (I727) that worked fine. We're now in Costa Rica and I need it unlocked. I'm short on time and the local phone shop said they could unlock it.
They couldn't and gave it back, saying the battery was low.
Battery is recharged, but the phone will not turn on or show any signs of life. When plugged into the charger, nothing on the screen. No response to the reset button sequence.
I downloaded Odin and the S2 drivers and the phone appears, but it's in yellow. When I press the power button, Odin responds with a sound. That's it.
I have no idea what they did, but I know it sure not saving me any time!! Esp since ATT may have just given me the code....
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Anyways
Do you know how to use Odin? What is yellow? If it says COM port yellow that is a good thing, Odin sees your phone. You need it in download mode ( holding both volume up and down while phone is off and Odin on your screen plug it in to the computer, if they loaded a different ROM on it then only holding volume down might put it in download mode) then browse to your stock att ROM with Odin under PDA section and hit flash. Don't change any settings on Odin ... Only add a check mark to update boot loaders. Keep trying until you get a successful flash. After the phone AUTOMATICALLY reboots you can try the 3 button combo, get into recovery and reset to factory and reboot. Hope it helps ...

They bricked ur phone when they tried to unlock it, I almost guarantee it. You could've just purchased an unlock code off the net, but I digress. Keep trying to get the phone to go green in Odin. My guess may be the USB drivers you have installed are incorrect as well.

Argh. I looked for a 727 forum, but I didn't look for a Skyrocket forum. Sorry.
And sorry for the delay - we lost internet for a while when we got a new house (here in CR).
The shop is willing to try and fix the phone, but not sure I trust them but not sure of my abilities yet.
They said they just updated it. But that's not what they were trying to do - they were supposed to be unlocking it.
Thanks for the detailed directions.
No, I don't know Odin. Reading up a lot....
Yes, it's the COM port that is yellow.
I think I have the correct USB drivers - the computer recognizes my S3 as a I535.
So, I have KIES_HOME_I727UCMC1_I727ATTMC1_844945_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5 (stock ROM I believe) downloaded. Odin shows this as the entry next to PDA.
Hard to tell the phone is in the download mode, since there's no display.

The ucmc1 tar file in your post is for the i727. If that's the phone you have then go ahead and flash it. If you have an i535 it'll probably brick your phone, don't flash it.
So I tried flashing it. Odin says 'SetupConnection', but then nothing else happened. It didn't pass or fail.
I'm not sure what to do next - I'm afraid to interrupt the process, but nothing is happening...

if the phone has no signs of life it is hardbricked as such odin/computer wont see it, jtag is the only way to fix it
So I guess at this point it doesn't matter what I do - just unplug it or shut down Odin first....
Interesting, Odin still sees it and COM is still yellow. But I don't hear a response from Odin when I press the buttons on the phone.

Never too late right? lol
Hemidall would've been the right move here.

My N8000 is fully dead!!!

I am so sad as I write this...:crying:
I had TWRP custom recovery and running the ARHD 9.0 rom.
I was tempted to try the other roms so I played around with Omega and ReVolt rom..they worked fine...
Then, when I tried to reflash ARHD 9.0, I could get to TWRP recovery but it just reboots even before any of the buttons appear.
So, I went into download mode and flashed HighOnAndroid custom recovery.
It seem to work fine....so I went ahead and flashed ARHD 9.0....It installed fine and completed successfully.
But when I rebooted the device...sigh...no power, not even the charging animation when I plug it into the charger...
So, if anyone has a solution on what I should do, please do tell me or I am really sad...so so sad...:crying:
Try a different charger, cable and wall outlet. Leave the n8000 there for a while. Hold the power button for a while, then let it go. Listen closely to the speakers for the little samsung sound when it turns on. Idk if the rom you installed has a boot sound tho. Anyways, if you still dont have an answer after that.. I would maybe start to think the power button is dead. Its a last ditch option but plausible i suppose lol.
Beyond that, you might have to think about sell it for parts.
Oh and i remember from my time with the Samsung vibrant that sometimes, even if nothing comes up on the screen, the device might be picked up by Odin after doing the dl mode button combo

My Note is about 2 months old and is still under warranty period. As a last resort, I can send it to them.

As you have root and custom rom then warranty is void .
If Samsung cannot tell that you have root and custom rom is a different matter .

Have you tried plugging in to your pc, see if odin recognizes it? If so try flashing stock samsung rom.

I tried it....not detected...
It's very strange...no backlit or sound even when pressing power, power+vol up/vol down combos.
There was no error at all while flashing the ARHD 9.0.....and when I click on the finish and restart/reboot button at the end, boom..it shutdowns and dies on me...
I have googled it but no one has ever come across this kind of problem.
Since it is completely dead, there is a chance that sammy will not know it's rooted and running custom firmware.
Thanks to you and JJEgan for your concerns and suggestions.
As it sounds like a hardware issue, Samsung will likely fix it under warranty. At least that was my experience with Asus on my previous tablet.

Do you know.if your battery was almost dead when flashing that last. Rom? I've heard that can brick ur device if it dies in flashing process. (Even tho you said flash completed) but who knows?

I am not very sure about the exact battery percentage but yeah, it was low...somewhere about 10%~30%.
So, does that mean there is no way to revive it?

Unfortunately not without a new motherboard it seems like. If the is no sign of life, no recovery, no download mode and can't flash via oden or kies on computer with proper drivers installed. Then it sounds like a hard brick. Not recoverable unless new motherboard or JTAG. :/
Sorry man. But in future never flash if less than 30% battory. I've heard some pple say not below 50%
I don't know if your 10.1 died while flashing, but if so it could hard brick
50% is the suggested level of battery because flashing actually uses a large amount of battery. Also the tablets seem to power down things at 10%power.
Could be it shut off if the power dropped below 10%. This is why we suggest to not flash below 50%...

so sad....lesson learnt too late....the hard way :crying:
But I guess I have learnt one more way of hardbricking a device.
dude, seems like maybe a problem with your "main board"... i had the same issue at my galaxy tab 2, and i sent it to the shop ( because its passed warranty period already)...
