I just got my first android phone, the inspire 4G, and after some problems with temproot (which i finally found a fix to) got it perm rooted. Anyway i installed the unofficial CM 10.1 JB rom, and copyed my music to my 8GB msd card using adb push from PC (dont have a card reader yet...) anyway, using apollo, while the low end sounds about normal through my earphones, the louder mid ends and all high ends sound really tinny and harsh...and this is comping from compressed MP3s from itunes on an old iphone. I didnt even expect BETTER sound but i at least expected the same, but its impossible to listen to my music the way it sounds right now.
I found a beats audio installer for root in the play store, but IDK if it works for this rom yet and i dont really have the space to make a backuip of the rom right now. (getting my 16 GB card in a few days).
I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. what can be done to rectify this? its definitely not the music files that sound fine on my PC or my earphones that worked fine with my iPhone (which died spectacularly and i never want another again, especially seeing how open a rooted android is)-and they work fine with my PC too.
So what do you guys think? id post it in the CM thread but you need 10 posts apparently to post in development.
EDIT: just to make sure its clear, this is sound quality through my HEADPHONES, not complaints of the cheap built in speaker.
Non GB sense roms have this issue on the inspire. The best you can do is flash inspiremod 5 but even then it won't sound the best it could. If you are really into listening to music then just stick with sense gingerbread roms. Some may not agree but I can always tell the difference in sound quality.

Sounds like what im gonna do. no toys get between me and my music no matter how cool.
Would be nice to hear of some attempts to fix it, but right low looks like im back to gingerbread.
flashed android revolution 7.1, and sound quality is fantastically better. thanks!
I am using the mod and haven't noticed a huge degrade except when listening to really high quality mp3s. I think it is listenable. I have never used quality head phones, are you using regular ones or a nice pair?

Hows the experience on the Inspire? Any issues?
Just wanted to find out if its worth going through the process. It seems a little more involving than other rom installations.
Works great. Sound sucks. I missed the nicer camera app so I switched back to stock rooted oc
Ill hold off for now then till the sound is fixed. Thanks
The tinny sound may be fixed by Turbonium if his thread is right. I will be testing it tomorrow.
Other than that I love it.

There is nothing like CM. Smoother than anything and fast. I just applied the sound fix and its as close to stock sound as I can remember. I forsee that fix being cooked into all Inspire kernels moving forward.
Which version would be the best to use? I think theres like 2 or 3 plus the nightlies?
I'm using the nightly #7 and it rocks, though there is no support on nightlies (can't file bugs), they seem to be as reliable as a stable build. If this doesn't convince you, RC 1 is also available which works just as good. BTW sound has been fixed here, I just tried it and it works as stated. The only thing I miss from a Sense based ROM is the Connected Media app to be able to watch videos on my HDTV and the Camera app, but I can live with CM7 without those apps.
I'm using RC1 and it's amazing.

I got the buggered cwm from another rom and almost didn't bother fixing it to get cm7.
glad I did. After flashing the latest nightly and the sound fix this is with out a doubt the best rom I've used and in general the best android platform I've used. Snappy, smooth, and as a galaxy s defector GPS and everything else simply works. Hard to believe this is an unfinished rom as its still in RC status. The guys building this thing obviously know wtf they are doing.
I recommended any one who has an inspire flash this ROM.
Sent from Inspire 4g CM7 nightly 8.
I second this. I have no clue as to why it would be called RC if it feels like premium quality software.
I flashed it a couple hours ago.Im gonna give it more time but I really want to go back to Coredroid. It feels about the same on the speed and smooth factor but without the sense I kinda feel like I was back on my captivate.Sense has me sold I think.
I see a lot of posts here about CM 7, so are people just flashing CM 7 that's for the Desire HD or is it one specifically for the Inspire? Just wondering because I ordered an Atrix and I don't see as much development going on for it when compared to the development for the Inspire. But maybe that has to do with the locked boatloader. I'm going to test it and out for a day or two and if it's not up to my standards, I'm going to exchange it for the Inspire.

The Desire HD one, I am using Nightly 8 with TurboniumX's audio fix. Works like a champ.

search "twonky mobile" in the market place. It will let you beam stuff from your phone to the a dlna\upnp tv or other device (ps3\xbox etc).
Hello, im running Cm7 nightly (32 i believe). one of the main reasons i got the inspire 4g was for an ipod replacement. im a musician, and i listen to a lot of music, so i just really appreciated the DDmobile and srs hd that was integrated into the stock rom. which i flashed a new one, i noticed it was gone, and also it seems my audio isnt as loud as before. i did try power amp, among many other players, but everything was hit and miss... i know im kinda setting myself up for failure if im expecting anything reminiscent of my ipod touch's music features. but i really just want to get other ppls opinions on different music/audio setups fixes, apps and such for our phone.
I would flash the newest cm7 on bro. Cause I have 37 and mine is just as good as an ipod...

First, thank you to all the developers. I have really enjoyed cutting my teeth and learning how to max out my HTC. I recently had to get a warranty replacement because the audio just got corrupted.
On my previous HTC I used the following
Bubby's Root/ S-off
Ran several different ROM's - HD REvo, LeeDroid, CWM etc.
Then used the S-On.exe and reinstalled the factory rom for warranty compliance.
I feel like my meddling is what caused the audio corruption.
I loved the speed and the hotspot benefits of rooting, but I am afraid to damage my new HTC. In your opinions, how can I root and minimize audio issues?
Thanks, you guys are great. I'll never be able to contribute at your levels, but I do donate.
Hands down easiest and safest way, period.

What about sound quality?
The way I rooted was easy enough, but the sound quality just deteriated from ROM to ROM
I run a business of my phone and cant afford to lose business over poor call wuality. My old HTC got so bad that people wouldnt talk to me on it, then the phone app would crash, or jump in and out of different output modes randomly (headset, handset, bluetooth etc)

You may have had special circumstances.
"Deteriorated from rom to rom" gives me the impression there might have been something else going perhaps with the hardware itself, a bad component that over time got progressively worse.
Not to mention there's usually an explanation for most of the radio/sound quality issues that people have run in to that are attributed to rom flashing.
I'm rooted, on a custom rom, as are many, many people here, without any sound issues as a result of the rooting process itself.
I used bubby's simple root, and used the stock rom that resulted from that process for a long time before moving to a custom rom.
I do understand being hesitant with a new replacement phone though, but I really think you'll be ok.
FWIW, there are people here who "meddle with their phone" multiple times a day with different roms. Your "meddling" is not what caused your issue, unless possibly you weren't properly wiping the phone prior to your subsequent rom flashes.

I hate to sound like prick but honestly you really should never hack a phone that is counted on like that . Imo, which doesn't mean much lol, sounds like you might want to invest in two phones. I know it sounds expensive but the way it sounds is that you might have caught the flashing bug that goes around xda or you wouldn't be here lol. I just know that no rom can be counted on 100% and should never be considered stable enough for something that you can't risk something going wrong.
Again, sorry to sound like a prick and hope I made sense I'm half a sleep lol

Why in the world are you rooting and running custom ROMs on a business critical phone???
edit: Disregard, I see others have already commented on this. Wasn't trying to pile on.
Okay so this is a weird issue. When using the stock ROM for my Inpsire 4G (or any variation of sense ROMs) I get this occasional audio skip on my car's bluetooth audio. The phone is connected to both the phone and the media features of my Pioneer AVIC-X930BT the audio sounds absolutely fine then all of a sudden theres a drop in the audio for about half a second and the music has to catch up. Its not really a skip more of a lag. This issue does NOT exist with completely different ROMs such as CM7. In CM7 I have no issues whatsover. What could be causing this and how can I fix it? I absolutely LOVE Sense ROMs and have tried the latest Android Revolution HD (almost fixes it) and RCMixHD 1.5 and all have the same issue. Its not my SD card because as I said it works fine in CM7 however I do not like the look of CM7 and the "sense like" widgets are not to my liking. Thanks so much and I realllly hope there is a fix for it. Perhaps a custom kernel would do it? Or a different radio? Thanks.
P.S. Yes I know it works for some of you with no issue...but sadly I've been having this problem for a while and it's been bothering me a LOT.

The main issue is the BT stack that is used with the roms. CM7 uses a different one if I remember right. So not alot you can do unless you want to rebuild the rom yourself
Just got my Inspire 4G. Tonight I gained root access (S-Off) using Bobby323's method (much thanks). My question is, whats next? Maybe I am just a little new to the Android scene. (switched from the iPhone)
start going through the rom threads and find the one you like

Yup your in the playing phase... go try everything til you find one you like. everyone is different and will tell u x rom is this or that. only you can decide what works for you.. plus read, read and oh read some more... etc..
I started off with the Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 (stable release) so far so good except my Market is MIA.

did you bother to flash the gapps??
Just did and got all the Google apps! So far I am really enjoying this over the iPhone. Hopefully I will keep finding cool apps etc.. that will keep me interested!
I started with CM7 stable as well and really liked it. Once you get more comfortable you should definitely give Nightly a shot.
I agree 100%. This is my first go into modifying any kind of phone or CPU for that matter.
You should flash the google apps. And there is one important thing to remember about switching from Inspire Stock to cyanogen, There is no HTC Sense (and if you like music no SRS Enhancement). If you like HTC's (Stock) widgets and User Interface you should probably stick to a Sense Rom. Cyanogen is not a sense rom.
There's SRS enhancement for CM7. At least in some programs. I can use it in PowerAMP.
I use androids native music player. I didn't know Power Amp had it. EDIT: I downloaded it and the DHD effects in Power Amp don't work in cyanogen (at least on my phone)
I am still trying to figure out how to put my music onto the phone. I am assuming I can just put the files into the SD?

pretty sure in order for it to show up you have to flash the inspire audio patch.....

I am having an issue where the volume is at its highest setting but its still very low. Anything to fix this? I am running Cyanogenmod.

Just connect the phone to the computer via usb, mount the phone as a disc drive. Make a new folder on your sd card labeled music and start dropping them in there. I'm sure you have a 16gb sd card, you won't have to worry about the amount of songs you have.
