Just got my Inspire 4G. Tonight I gained root access (S-Off) using Bobby323's method (much thanks). My question is, whats next? Maybe I am just a little new to the Android scene. (switched from the iPhone)
start going through the rom threads and find the one you like

Yup your in the playing phase... go try everything til you find one you like. everyone is different and will tell u x rom is this or that. only you can decide what works for you.. plus read, read and oh read some more... etc..
I started off with the Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 (stable release) so far so good except my Market is MIA.

did you bother to flash the gapps??
Just did and got all the Google apps! So far I am really enjoying this over the iPhone. Hopefully I will keep finding cool apps etc.. that will keep me interested!
I started with CM7 stable as well and really liked it. Once you get more comfortable you should definitely give Nightly a shot.
I agree 100%. This is my first go into modifying any kind of phone or CPU for that matter.
You should flash the google apps. And there is one important thing to remember about switching from Inspire Stock to cyanogen, There is no HTC Sense (and if you like music no SRS Enhancement). If you like HTC's (Stock) widgets and User Interface you should probably stick to a Sense Rom. Cyanogen is not a sense rom.
There's SRS enhancement for CM7. At least in some programs. I can use it in PowerAMP.
I use androids native music player. I didn't know Power Amp had it. EDIT: I downloaded it and the DHD effects in Power Amp don't work in cyanogen (at least on my phone)
I am still trying to figure out how to put my music onto the phone. I am assuming I can just put the files into the SD?

pretty sure in order for it to show up you have to flash the inspire audio patch.....

I am having an issue where the volume is at its highest setting but its still very low. Anything to fix this? I am running Cyanogenmod.

Just connect the phone to the computer via usb, mount the phone as a disc drive. Make a new folder on your sd card labeled music and start dropping them in there. I'm sure you have a 16gb sd card, you won't have to worry about the amount of songs you have.

Hows the experience on the Inspire? Any issues?
Just wanted to find out if its worth going through the process. It seems a little more involving than other rom installations.
Works great. Sound sucks. I missed the nicer camera app so I switched back to stock rooted oc
Ill hold off for now then till the sound is fixed. Thanks
The tinny sound may be fixed by Turbonium if his thread is right. I will be testing it tomorrow.
Other than that I love it.

There is nothing like CM. Smoother than anything and fast. I just applied the sound fix and its as close to stock sound as I can remember. I forsee that fix being cooked into all Inspire kernels moving forward.
Which version would be the best to use? I think theres like 2 or 3 plus the nightlies?
I'm using the nightly #7 and it rocks, though there is no support on nightlies (can't file bugs), they seem to be as reliable as a stable build. If this doesn't convince you, RC 1 is also available which works just as good. BTW sound has been fixed here, I just tried it and it works as stated. The only thing I miss from a Sense based ROM is the Connected Media app to be able to watch videos on my HDTV and the Camera app, but I can live with CM7 without those apps.
I'm using RC1 and it's amazing.

I got the buggered cwm from another rom and almost didn't bother fixing it to get cm7.
glad I did. After flashing the latest nightly and the sound fix this is with out a doubt the best rom I've used and in general the best android platform I've used. Snappy, smooth, and as a galaxy s defector GPS and everything else simply works. Hard to believe this is an unfinished rom as its still in RC status. The guys building this thing obviously know wtf they are doing.
I recommended any one who has an inspire flash this ROM.
Sent from Inspire 4g CM7 nightly 8.
I second this. I have no clue as to why it would be called RC if it feels like premium quality software.
I flashed it a couple hours ago.Im gonna give it more time but I really want to go back to Coredroid. It feels about the same on the speed and smooth factor but without the sense I kinda feel like I was back on my captivate.Sense has me sold I think.
I see a lot of posts here about CM 7, so are people just flashing CM 7 that's for the Desire HD or is it one specifically for the Inspire? Just wondering because I ordered an Atrix and I don't see as much development going on for it when compared to the development for the Inspire. But maybe that has to do with the locked boatloader. I'm going to test it and out for a day or two and if it's not up to my standards, I'm going to exchange it for the Inspire.

Hey guys!
Wanted to know what you guys prefer/are using - Android Revolution or CM7 on your Inspire. Currently I'm using the stock rooted ROM and I'm loving it. I was using Android Revolution, but the tinny sound was unbearable for me after a while. Now that there's a fix for both AR and CM7, what do you recommend I flash? I don't mind Sense at all, but GB sounds pretty nice as well.
Opinions? Thanks!
I started with revolution but moved on to cm and will probably stay till some 2.3 roms come out, for no real reason I just "have" to have the latest os, always have... windows ME almost ruined my life
I think u have to ask ur self if u really enjoy sense or not... I personally love it after coming from the xperia x10's timescale ui, but if u don't then cm7 all the way for speed cuz it zips... plus u could use the colorize widget to get a sense like feel on cm7
How is battery life on CM7?
I like cm7 but I like the fact more that HTC sense downloads high quality FB images for my contacts. I dont think there is a way to do that on CM7, just the horrible quality images. That is what made me go back to sense... That along with the cm7 keyboard is tiny compared to the htc one.. Im sure I could find an apk somewher for it, but Ill just stick to sense for now.

Download the GB Keyboard from the market. The free one is bigger than the CM one and if you pay $.99 you get even more customization. Not saying this to try to get you to switch though. I even used it on Sense. It seems to be the best kb out there right now.
I noticed that CM7 was just released. I'm on Revolution and love it. CM7 makes me a bit nervous though. Install directions say to pick a radio to install, but then say that if you pick the wrong one you will brick your phone. That scares me. I didn't have to do that with Revolution. Are there benefits to CM7 that out-weigh that risk though? I can't find out a whole lot in the way of a comparison between CM7 and Revolution. I'd love to hear from people that have tried both to see what their impressions were.

Obviously you have a radio installed so it's not an issue. If you are rocking the stock radio just do a full wipe and flash CM7 and you will be good to go. I did that and then changed my radio and everything has always worked well for me. The battery for me isnt too bad and I haven't run into many issues that bother me. I LOVE having CM7/Vanilla Android on this phone. CM7 also has built in capabilities to OC up to 1.5Ghz.
I liked cm7 and it might be a little faster but .......the reason i got the inspire 4g is cause of the screen size. I get alot of MMS slide shows and on cm7 the pictures are TINY unless you want to go to the trouble of saving them to get a full screen pic. With that being said I'll stick to AR for now so I get full screen MMS slide show pics like the stock htc rom did.
So, since I already have a working radio on Revolution, can I just back up the ROM with Tibu and then use Rom Manager to install CM7 to check it out?

Also wondering about this. Currently have CM7 and have it set up just how I like it. If I do a tibu backup of user apps and system data, can I install another ROM, then go back to CM7, restore backup, and have everything like it is now?

Use Nandroid too. Restore that, then apps ONLY with TiBu, not system data.
I used Rom Manager to backup my current system and then Tibu to backup all existing apps and data. Went back to Rom Manager and told it to download CM7. It installed great. Tibu put all my apps back as well. I see three BIG advantages to CM7 over Revolution so far. First, it seems MUCH faster. Second, it allows me to sync my Splash ID to my desktop. That was impossible with the stock ROM (both before and after rooting) as well as with Revolution. It also runs the Fox News app, something else that would never run on prior ROMs. Finally, I love all the new settings. There are a lot more configuration options available than on Revolution or even the rooted stock rom that I started with. All in all, I think I'll be sticking with CM7 for a while.
At first i put CM7 on my inspire...Hate it...after few hours was very slow...I removed it and using now android revolution 3.3...Very very happy...good battery life...
That's odd. I had the exact opposite experience. Of course I was using Revolution 4, but CM7 seems to be a whole lot faster for me. Only issues I've had with it so far is that I keep losing some of my App Tray folders in Go Launcher EX. But I'm also running a beta of that, so no telling where the problem lies.

With mine, it DEFAULTS to charge only, but when you tap on that in the notifications, you are given the option to mount the SD. And I'd make sure to reset the battery stats and give it some time (a full day?) and then look at what is using up your battery and CPU. I too had some sluggishness until I found that a certain utility that I had downloaded but never set up or used was chewing up 50% of my battery. Once I deleted it, I was fine.
been using revo. my favorite.
I tried CM7 and it looks sick and I liked a lot but is broken on incoming video with yahoo messenger, also it detects my headphones as headset wich disables the mic on calls .
So I'm hoping to stay on 2.3, but need those 2 things urgently to be able to talk and watch a girl at the same time (LOL) I dont use speaker phone cuz sometimes my room fan too noisy and the inspire is not that loud xD
Try Inspiredsaga. I have tried rcmixhd. But i find Inspiredsaga to be best, cleanest and most stable ROM.

+1. MIUI is so slick, I can hardly hold on to my phone. Looks a little too much like the iPhone setup for my tastes, but drop a launcher like Launcherpro, ADW, or GoLauncher on it and it rocks.
If you want a Sense ROM, try RCMix 5.9
Coredroid is nice, i have been switching between that and CM7 myself..

MIUI is nice, but I tried it last week with mixed results. Most of it worked perfectly, but the phone would reboot every time I plugged it into my PC's USB port with USB Debugging enabled.
I'll probably get back to it eventually, though, rather liked it. For now, I'm still on one of the early rooted+cleaned stock roms (can't remember which one, though), and that works very well, though getting tired of sense a bit.
Ultimate droid is my new favorite. Faster and smoother than any other that i have tried. Kind of minimalist in some senses but far ahead in others. It came mes. Down to personal preferance.

+1 on ultimate droid!
It's like CM7 on steriods! Super fast!
thanks for all u guys suggestions, i currently have ultimate droid and is more faster and customizable than cm7 but.... has the same problem i had wiz cm7 Yahoo video calls and this time detect headphones instead of headset but cant hear call from headphones :/
+Miui camera seems unstable when trying to choose color effects it fc.
At the moment I will just try out more roms and if they dont work i will have to go back to sense based rom.
PS: I Had coredroid and is fast and improved my net speed but... Is not so customizable and I don't like its graphics much.
If anyone knows a Sense based rom with theme chooser that would be a blast even tho maybe is not possible?
i was on revolution 3.0 and it was SO stable.
i just switched to inspired saga and i love teh 'stock' gingerbread feel of it. quite stable. few to no issues with it
thanks for the input

This is a known issue with the HTC Sync drivers, forces a bootloop with the latest MIUI build. Uninstall HTC Sync (you don't need it with MIUI anyway), and no bootloop.
I know about the HTC sync issue, but for whatever reason, that did not fix my problem. I would still get reboots without it (not as often, but often enough).
Honestly I didn't pursue it too much, so not sure what else could have been causing the issue. I'll still probably go back to miui in a few weeks.
I went from Android Revolution 3.3 to MIUI, and I thought MIUI was nice, but seemed to zap my battery. Just sitting idle with screen off it was averaging 39-50mA of usage, where as AR averages 2-7mA.
I will probably try out these others ones, particular RCMix and Inspired Saga as well to see how they perform. Battery usage is a big deal to me, I basically need my phone to last at least 10 hours on a single charge.
these two are my top two ROMs can any one here tell me which one you guys use and why?
I'm thinking about the ACE ROM... because of the ROM manager support. I want to know how good the battery is one VS the other??
I'm running the most current version of leedroid and have been for about a week now it is the best Rom I have found on this site by far! I use my phone for work so it gets used a lot I'm going on 16 hours without a charge and still have 49% left! BTW I did flash the recommended radio they have listed on their post on this site if u need more info just let me know

Let me say it in a nice way before others flame you. This seems like the common thread that is opened: which one is the best or better rom? There is no such thing as that in the android community. Everyone has a different opinion so IMHO that wouldn't help much. Just try both of them out to see which one you like more.
I've used both, and I have to say, the battery life on LeeDroid is far superior for me than on Ace.

Try out each for a time and see how you like them. each one might have different quirks that make or break the ROM. I found Ace more stable on my phone, but tried LeeDroid and had issues with the speakerphone being echoey.
good luck!
Having used both;
Ace - Smooth, no errors, Bluetooth sometimes goes in and out, Signal strength was great for me, Battery was A-Ok. Even when streaming the battery stayed nice and charged.
LeeDriod - Smooth, Fast with the OC , a few errors here and there, FC's here and there for apps. (Sirius will lock up) No issue with blue tooth, Signal strength is so-so for me on this one. Battery life is ok when not streaming, but when plugged in streaming the battery would not gain any charge.
Leedriod prolly looks a little better. But I think Ace is stronger stability wise.
Personally I love to flash the phone to see little things/tweaks each rom brings. But I almost always return to a stock rom.
Basically I do a rom back up for each Rom I install. I configure it and place every app/game on it that I use. I remove anything I hate/don't want and then back it up. I then place the back up on my PC. When I want to go back I copy it to the CWM Backup folder and just recover to it.
Lol I like that... The version of leedroid I speak of is 3.0.2 I find the two roms to he identical. With tweaks done to the operating system it self...
I like that ACE has rom manager support...
But I like that leedroid was built from the ground up and people reporting great battery life...
I'm torn lol
I have flashed all the ROMs and I'm staying with LeeDroid

I honestly wouldn't put too much stock in ROM Manager support. For my purposes, it wasn't a big deal. If you have the XDA app, Lee's FTP downloads are smooth and easy, and it doesn't take much to get them to the right spot with a file manager if you know where you're looking.

I ran saga before ace.. frankly saga felt better than ace. I can't put my finger on anything specific, ace just had quirks- things not behaving as I thought they should. I changed from ace to leedroid and I'm happy. The only problem I have with leedroid is the volume isn't as loud through the headphone jack as CM7 is.
The main selling point for leedroid was tthe battery saving... But I'm really not seeing much improvement... Its OK but 10hours of normal use Max...
I think that's because of me messing around with the radio flashing and such...
I'm on 3.0.2 ROM with 3.0.4 kernel.. maybe a clean install of the 3.0.4 ROM?? or 3.0.2...

I've been using Ace, it's fast, stable, and battery life is pretty good. I just flashed LeeDroid tonight. It seems pretty fast and stable, and I'm getting around the same data speeds I was getting. Battery life I can't say yet, but I'm thinking it will be better since LeeDroid's kernel runs the CPU a bit faster than stock but undervolted.
please keep me posted on your take on battery life and bugs you might find..
I'm on leedroid 3.0.2 and would love to know how ACE is... I know I should just flash it and try it out my self, but I'm not wanting to move unless I know it's a keeper! lol
I love Ace, stock Sense without the bloat exactly what i was looking for...
I just got my first android phone, the inspire 4G, and after some problems with temproot (which i finally found a fix to) got it perm rooted. Anyway i installed the unofficial CM 10.1 JB rom, and copyed my music to my 8GB msd card using adb push from PC (dont have a card reader yet...) anyway, using apollo, while the low end sounds about normal through my earphones, the louder mid ends and all high ends sound really tinny and harsh...and this is comping from compressed MP3s from itunes on an old iphone. I didnt even expect BETTER sound but i at least expected the same, but its impossible to listen to my music the way it sounds right now.
I found a beats audio installer for root in the play store, but IDK if it works for this rom yet and i dont really have the space to make a backuip of the rom right now. (getting my 16 GB card in a few days).
I was wondering if anyone else had this issue. what can be done to rectify this? its definitely not the music files that sound fine on my PC or my earphones that worked fine with my iPhone (which died spectacularly and i never want another again, especially seeing how open a rooted android is)-and they work fine with my PC too.
So what do you guys think? id post it in the CM thread but you need 10 posts apparently to post in development.
EDIT: just to make sure its clear, this is sound quality through my HEADPHONES, not complaints of the cheap built in speaker.
Non GB sense roms have this issue on the inspire. The best you can do is flash inspiremod 5 but even then it won't sound the best it could. If you are really into listening to music then just stick with sense gingerbread roms. Some may not agree but I can always tell the difference in sound quality.
