[Q] Cannot install Slim Bean Jellybean 4.1.2 on i727 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I tried about 5 times to install Slim Bean Jellybean 4.1.2 on my Att i727 but it would get to the slim bean animation and just sit there for 20 mins, the backlights never came on. Just for grins I tried installing slim bean 3.1.0 and it works fine. How can I figure out why it won't finish the install on my phone? I've tried everything I can think of. Thanks

This should be in Q&A, but download the rom again. Could be a bad download.

yeah I did that to, if tried putting it on internal and external sd card also and installing from each. Only thing I have done is try installing after I have install bean 3.1

did you read the install instructions? There are add-ons you need if you you're coming from less than ver 2.7

wow, i'm a noob and no one caught it... I was able to flash to Slim-i727-3.1.0-OFFICIAL and I didn't realize that it is actually 4.1.2 I was looking at the version number of slim download and must have been downloading some other file from another website. I kept looking for at the slim i727 filename expecting 4.2.1..... dumb

Does anyone know if you flash this does it clear the entire memory or just the os partition. I have flashed many Roms before on other android devices but all those had an SD card and with the unlocking process I know the entire data was erased.

It appears it not just your downloads I can't seem to flash any Roms. I tried to flash other ROM and it keeps giving me same error. It almost seems like it can find the zip files on SD card to flash and then it goes to flash and can no longer find the file. Anyone have any insight into this?
first off seems D/L is not working but I dint think there were so many issues with ROM. We definetly need a solid Stock ROM with ROOT (4.1.1), Hope its works when I flash

Without knowing what ROM you're using no one can help you. Random reboots still happen in Jellybean but they aren't every 20 minutes. Download the stable CM9 for your phone and try installing that. If you still get random reboots you have either a defective phone (not likely) or you're doing something wrong.
I'm on orthus one and it happens to me one literally every ROM I try including the stable cm9. Idk what I'd be doing wrong. I'm on sk8s latest recovery if that helps. Should I just odin back to stock and go from there?

I'm running Liquid rc1 v2 myself - it's buttah smooth! Check out TWRP recovery - it's a must for flashaholics. You can download the goo manager from playstore and install the recovery or flashable version available in dev section. Try it and you'll be hooked.

installing 4.2 gapps

hey had a question about trying to install the 4.2 gapps. im currently running King Kang rom with the kernel that came with it (not 5) and TWRP. after i downloaded the .zip and went to install from recovery it instantly fails every time that i try it. am i missing a step somewhere, or do i need to be running kernel 5 or something?

Download cm10 again ans reflash it, cleanly. Wipe system/cache/dalvik. Then try and flash over gapps. But I'd do another wipe on cache/delvik before you flash it. Just trying to keep the flashing as clean as possible. It also might be a problem with the version of gapps you're using. Do you have the latest?

[Q] How to install custom recovery after root?

first things first. I'm a noob. HAHA. but i'm willing to learn.
I recently rooted my phone by using chainfire's CF-AUTO-ROOT and it has stock recovery on it. Now, I want to install a custom recovery, specifically cwm recovery. How will be able to do this? Do I have to unroot then root again? a step by step info will be appreciated. thanks

Your thread is changing direction but I can't resist commenting anyway. If your tablet is rooted, stock I don't think you will see big benefits to a custom ROM. For other tablets I use like the Kindle, Nook and N7 custom roms can make a huge difference. I'm running CM 10.? Or variants of that on those devices. My most used tablet is this 2.7 with stock ROM. If you must try another ROM, I'd suggest a sick based ROM that is deodexed with sound or visual enhancements. Also, changing to a noon, Touchwiz launcher will make big differences. GOOD LUCK!
P.S. quess what a ROMaholic might be.

Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich Unlocked and Rooted

Hi. I thank you in advance for pointers and direction. I have searched around, but want to make sure I am doing the right thing.
I have an Infuse and it is unlocked. It is running with a T-Mobile SIM card.
I downloaded Odin 3 v1.7. I successfully flashed from 2.2.1 (Froyo) to 2.3.6 Gingerbread by using this ROM/Root that I found on another thread here:
************ OPTION C *************
I997UCLB3-CWM-root-deodex-extras.rar
Features in this version
- Entropy's Daily Driver kernel
- Red CWM recovery
- Rooted
- Deodexed
- Zipaligned
- Busybox
- AT&T and other bloatware removed
- Scrolling wallpaper fix
- CRT off animation
- 8 lock screens
- Extended power menu
- Accurate battery mod
The phone is working properly on the new firmware.
I would like to jump up one more firmware to Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean. Every method I can find seems to include root, and I am already rooted. That happened when I ran "option C" from above.
What is my next step? Can I simply flash a Gingerbread ROM through Odin (after, of course, putting the Infuse in "download" mode)?
You need to flash a (ics) rom from the CWM RECOVERY of the phone not using odin and then you can flash a jellybean 4.xx rom.

one last check ...
Let me check one last time before I do something stupid:
I have a rooted and unlocked (T-mobile service) Infuse. I had stock Froyo 2.2.1. I used Option C from a thread here that rooted it and gave me RED recovery. I used Odin and flashed the "extras" package.
I currently have build #: Gingerbread.UCLB3, kernal version: 2.6.25.7-I997ruxkg3-cl366622, firmware 2.3.6.
I would like to experiment with flashing up to ICS, maybe Jelly Bean.
My understanding is that I can simply drop a ICS rom onto my SD card and flash it from red recovery. Then I do do the same process to move to Jelly Bean.
Am I correct? Am I missing anything? Thank you ALL soooo much for guidance. I am learning and will pass it on!

Yeah.....its typed on Note 3.
Ok, I followed the directions provided and flashed Infinitum ICS. All works well with the rom. Recovery is distorted. I see directions which include Heimdall to correct the recovery.
Does that process just correct the recovery or does it revert me back to something other than Infinitum Rom? if so, can I repeat the process to get the rom back?
My next step will them be to move to jelly bean and be happily ever after.

When you update your phone you don't flash the gingerbread bootloaders right, you only need to flash the gingerbread bootloaders and that will fix the problem.

I 100% appreciate your help and I SWEAR I will pass along what I am learning to a newbie as soon as I get a chance!

Hey! It looks like I corrected the issue before you messaged back. I ran Heimdall again. Thought I had blown it. Screen went all speckled red yellow and blue on me. It was kinda pretty. I booted in download mode and it was speckled, too. I followed the steps to download mode even thought I could not see the screen. I flashed through Heimdall again, it ran properly, and then booted into download mode and ran with "bootloaders" checked. It seems all is well. Recovery mode is working (no distortion) and is blue (Android system recovery 3e).
Can I follow the steps I took to go to ICS and then JB (if I decide to go to JB) now with no other issues?

I flashed through Heimdall again, it ran properly, and then booted into download mode and ran with "bootloaders" checked. It seems all is well. Recovery mode is working (no distortion) and is blue (Android system recovery 3e).
Can I follow the steps I took to go to ICS and then JB (if I decide to go to JB) now with no other issues?
Dude, I really appreciate your guidance.

Ok but remember if you now have the (android system recovery 3e) you need to obtain the (CWM recovery) again to be able to flash custom roms on your device, flash the UCLB3 gingerbread 2.3.6 rooted with CWM.

Will do. I'll report back. I have a feeling I barely escaped making my phone a really cool looking paperweight.
