AT&T HTC ONE X speeds on TMobile - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Happy new year everyone! I'm a GSM newb so please dont flame me on what it might seem obvious to most people in this forum. Having said that, can anyone comment on their AT&T HOX data speeds on T-mobile? I'm planning to (leave Sprint and) buy a used AT&T One X and use it on Tmobile $30 data plan. Lucky for me I live in NY Tmobile 1900 area.

Same plan but in San Diego. Speeds can be just as fast as a T-Mobile branded phone but in my area It's much more inconsistent than a T-Mobile phones data connection. As long as you are ok with 2g and maybe some faster speeds it will be fine. I went from maxing out my 5 gigs of 4g to using about 1 gig a month now. Maybe NYC is better, maybe airportal.de gives you a better idea.

This is my experience with T-Mobile. Downtown Manhattan. The coverage is spotty. And the data switches constantly from 2G to 3G and vise versa especially in a building.

New York area network modernization plans were delayed because of hurricane Sandy. And I heard from tmo rep. that T-Mobile will finish this process by the end of January.

Enabling AWS on ATT One X using NV backup from Tmobile ( one S)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041&page=12
I came across the thread above and it is interesting to see if we can use NV backup from T-Mobile One S to enable AWS bands on our phone.
If any of you guys here can obtain a NV backup from Tmobile One S by following the guide in the thread posted above, I will Volunteer to give it a try.
Thank you

I can imagine that would work across all GSM S3's and Note 2 units. However, HTC One X is a complete different beast so I don't know. I need to check out that thread.

I think ATT One X has the same Modem Chipset as ATT GS3. People seems to be successful to get AWS band activated on their ATT GS3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36357180

Oh snap, I use TMobile and would be epic to get some 3G action, Edge has been killing me lol. Phone jumps to HSPA+ or 3G once in a blue moon.

Do we really need an HTC One S NV backup? I mean, we can use QXDM and go into the NV Browser and change the correct setting. Easier said than done, but I read about someone using QXDM to enable their AWS band on his Galaxy S3.

What are your APN setting titran? I have a At&T HTC one x running on t-mobile (Stock Rom). As soon as I enter APN type in the settings the whole setting get disabled. If I do not touch APN type phone works ok but data connection keeps moving between 4G & 3G. I'm in Houston too.

I'm aware they don't have 4G. In my area they'll be having it by mid year or end of year at the most.
Last few days I'm stuck on E

The re farming just isn't as good as a true T-Mobile phone at this point I've compared them side by side in my area. Luckily when I'm running around town 2g is all I need to get simple notifications and such.
I save a huge amount of battery by sticking to GSM only when I don't need anything data intensive.

HSDPA - How often do you hit it?

I'm just wondering, how often do you guys hit HSDPA (or have it display HSDPA in the status or H icon if ROM'd)?
I feel like my phone never hits HSDPA and is always on UMTS. I am on CM7 so I can easily see when my phone is on H and sometimes I see it hit H when it's not even downloading anything and idling. And when I do download something, it's usually always 3G. What is up with that? And I'm in North Dallas if anyone on here has the Nexus S too with the same issue.
always have it on. it never labels itself as "3G" (UMTS) in my area (new york). It depends on your area, if your area has HSDPA support then you should try updating your radio if you haven't already.
aw mine has the new I9020XXKB3 radio with Netarchy 1.2.5-cfs. It rarely ever goes HSDPA. I see my friends Galaxy S Captivate and his always says H.

Stock Captivate doesn't have H, it appears as "3G" it is possibly he could of applied a hack that replaces 3G whether it is on UMTS or HSDPA as "H"

I'm in Washington State (not DC) and I get the H pretty regularly however my speeds never seem "HSPA"-like, they're usually max out at maybe 1MBps whereas I can usually hit 5ish on 3G. Never

Well, isn't the Captivate on AT&T and you're on TMo with an NS? You can't compare two phones on two different networks like that.
AT&T has a much better network, in my opinion. I very frequently see H speeds on my AT&T Galaxy S phone in places where I can't even get plain 3G on the Nexus S TMo.

Point was the OP is trying to figure out why his friends modded Captivate gets an H signal on AT&T and his unmodded NS doesn't in the same location with TMobile - you can't compare two phones on two networks and derive anything meaningful about the proper functioning of one of them in regards to gettting HSPA or not.
As to the snide AT&T bashing, again, whatever... In the areas of Los Angeles, Southern California, Arizona and Nevada that I personally frequent, AT&T provides much better service. YMMV may vary, obviously. It's all about where you're at for all of the networks.
For me, if I'm going someplace and I know I HAVE TO have a signal to make a call, you can bet I'm taking my AT&T phone with me because I am certain to find more dead zones with TMo than I do on AT&T. AT&T may drop calls, but at least it can make them in places TMo can't, like inside a building.
But you didn't really want to turn this into a back and forth on AT&T vs TMo did you?

keyword modded. the OP didn't specify what ROM the person was using because I know for the SGS based phones there is a mod available that replaces the 3G icon (regardless of UMTS or HSDPA) to 4G or H depending on the mod.
its easy to fake something on Android, its just as easy as manipulating your Android version or making 2.2.X looking like Gingerbread.
And hell.. look on Engadget on the Inspire 4G review. This supposedly AT&T 4G phone's speeds compared to T-Mobile's HSDPA (3.5G) are just a joke.
Especially when HSUPA is disabled on the Inspire 4G. AT&T just doesn't respect the Android OS, all they simply do is cripple the phone.
- Disabling "unknown source" apps from being installed. Yeah, yeah.. we can hack it and enable it again. But for the average user, it isn't happening.
- Now.. HSUPA

http://www.att.com/network/?wtSlotClick=1-004P16!CIHPM01V1-1-1&rel=nofollow#fbid=_Fse7JSTH-U
Not all 4G is created equal. AT&T is the only carrier that will offer two layers of network technology that deliver 4G speeds: HSPA+ and LTE. Our HSPA+ network, combined with enhanced backhaul, is capable of speeds up to 4x faster than AT&T's already fast mobile broadband speeds. And we'll be evolving to even higher speeds with the rollout of our LTE network.
Why does that matter? You'll enjoy fast 4G speeds both with the HSPA+ network and where LTE is available. That means a smoother, more consistent mobile broadband experience overall.

Huh?
What does the Inspire have to do with this? What does AT&T's "4G" network have to do with it? We're talking about the current HSPA network because that's all either the Captivate or Nexus S which were being compared support. I'm also confused about why you posted a comparison of two different TMobile phones, one a "4G" phone and the other not a "4g" phone and their speedtest results.
The comment I responded to said his Nexus S doesn't get HSPA in Dallas when his friend's Captivate does. It's very plausible to me that his friend's getting HSPA service and he's not. In my experience, with my AT&T Galaxy S phone sitting next to my TMo Nexus S, the AT&T phone will routinely be on 5 bars of voice signal and have a full speed (4Mb/s) data connection available to me while the Nexus S on TMo is 0 bars of voice and EDGE data if anything at all. Even when on HSPA connection, the Nexus S can't pull more than 3Mb/s around here, so AT&T beats them in speed as well as coverage. I have active SIMS in both phones and often have them side by side. Based on my experience it seems perfectly reasonable to believe that other areas are the same.
The Galaxy S phones support HSPA up to 7.2mb/s...same as the Nexus S. Whatever a modded phone displays for that connection is irrelevant to what I said, which was, in my opinion, that AT&T has a better network. Here in Los Angeles, it covers more square miles than TMo, it penetrates buildings with full bars and 3G/HSPA speeds when TMo can't even push GSM voice or EDGE data into the same building and it doesn't drop calls any more frequently than TMo does.
Which brings me back to my original point to the author of that comment: I'm not sure what he thinks comparing the signal indicator on his NS to his friend's Captivate is actually revealing. He's got two different phones on two different networks and both are obviously modded in some manner; the only clear conclusion to me is that unless he's screwed up his NS somehow, his friend's got better reception because it's a better network in their area. I suspect this is commonplace across the major metros around the country.

Galaxy S 4g with AT&T 1900 3G Band?

Hey all,
I know the Vibrant has AT&T's 1900 3g band.
Can anyone confirm if the Galaxy S 4G also have the same AT&T 1900 3g band?
What sucks is that these bands are typically not listed in the specs but it's always a pleasant surprise when a t-mo phone has the AT&T 1900 band.
Thanks.
I'm thinking of upgrading to the Galaxy S 4g from the Vibrant but I don't want to give up the 1900 band when I swap to an AT&T sim.
Thanks in advance for the info
Yes it will but u can check it out here
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-S-4G_id5138
Thanks for the reply but according to phonearena, the Galaxy S 4g only covers GSM 1900. Not UMTS 1900.
The Vibrant actually has UMTS 1900 hence Unlocked Vibrants can be used on AT&T's 3G network

However, I know phonearena isn't always accurate when it comes to specs/bands so that's why I'm asking all you Galaxy S 4g owners

Joel, what did you end up doing?
Can the SGS 4G use 4G on AT&Ts network?
I was at one point able to get Straight Talk 3G working on the 1900 band when I used to live in TX. This was using ATT's network so it is definitely possible.
However a word of caution: from my experience in some areas ATT uses 850 for 3G, which the SGS4g does not support (edge only).
Got my sgs 4g unlocked and tested on at&t sim card ,3g worked with no problem (chicago area)

OK guys
grps is basically 1g edge is 2g umts is 3g umts with hspa or hsdpa (high speed package assist/high speed downlink package assist) has been advertised as 3g+ and 3.5g on carriers in some countries, att never made a distinction between if a phone was hspa, hsdpa, or 3g only, so they could advertise the fastest 3g network instead of confusing things with 3.5g and thus letting you know that not all 3g phones could get 3.5g speeds because they didn't fully support all the hspa modes (the iPhone 3g only supported 3.6mbps hsdpa not 7.2mbps hspa like they want you to believe the 3g network was capable of). its easy to have the fastest 3g if only a few high end devices could run at those speeds so the network never gets bogged down.
then T-Mobile messed everything up by getting hspa+ and calling it 4g. so att copied them and called their umts with hspa+ phones 4g even though it works off a umts signal. the older 4g commercials for the infuse and atrix say "4g speeds from hspa+ and 21mbps enhanced backhaul" or something to that effect at the bottom of the screen.
the infuse is not technically a 4g device and the h+ icon is possibly inaccurate in the first place. if you want to complain then blame T-Mobile. or this standard we know as Americans. why they can't just tell you its umts w/hspa+ is beyond me. I guess they need a system for comparison to cdma and iden devices so the us carriers can have there big pissing contest.
also T-Mobile has different 3g bands and the infuse doesn't support it, att phones will run on edge only when unlocked for T-Mobile and their subsidiaries. it will work on most other north American and south american GSM networks though as they mostly use the same bands as att. Europe is different using 900 MHz for talk instead of 850 but you should be able to roam on 2100mhz and Asia seems to be split between 850 and 900. ya gotta do research before you use a GSM phone in another region and if you want to use T-Mobile get a T-Mobile phone!

[Q] Anyone using a Canadian Razr HD on T-Mobile USA's LTE network?

Hey,
I have a Fido Razr HD, which afaik supports LTE on bands B4 (AWS 1700/2100MHz) and B17 (700MHz).
T-Mobile are deploying LTE on AWS, right? So in theory the RHD should be able to work without any problems - but has anyone actually tried this out?
I have a T-Mobile SIM on the way, so may have to be a guinea pig for this :silly:
Cheers,
Su

Hi, thank you for being a guinea pig So, LTE works, but how is the battery life? Does the phone easily pull through the whole day? Also, when LTE is not available does it work on T-mo's 3G/4G network? Thanks!

Hey,
Apologies for the late response. The battery life on LTE is definitely shorter than on 3G only. I was in NYC last week, and was pretty much getting full bars of LTE signal constantly... was just about making it through the day.
The phone does indeed get full HSPA+ in areas where LTE is not available (although it frequently drops back to Edge due to T-Mo's crappy network ). On 3G+ only, the phone easily makes it through the day (usually have 20-30% at the end of the day, after ~2hrs screen time).
I am annoyed that this device hasn't seen any upgrades since January (4.1.2) though... crossing fingers and toes for 4.4, but perhaps in vain
Cheers,
Su
the reverse..?
Im trying to use a verizon firmware on my xt925 (oppisite of yours)
Annoying that it works perfectly to use a canadaian edition in the US but not vise versa

Verizon's LTE is a different radio band, the 925 won't work on VZW LTE without some serious hardware hackery.
T-Mobile US 4G unlimited on Motorola xt925

I have an unlocked Motorola xt925 and from the first day that I connected it to T- Mobile US regretted this choice. The problem was off course the 4G Lte. I didn' t want to pay their 70$ plan to have unlimited 4G because they don' t really have a 4G coverage so can' t provide this service. More than that my problem was for long time in getting a 4G speed in the phone. Fixed only after 4 or 5 th call.
Why I am posting this ???. Let's say that I was so pissed off on that problem that I rooted and unlocked the phone bootloader, installed almost all androids that are for this phone , tried everything that could find on the forums.
And now I have always, not really, a 4G connection in my phone. Without hack or illegal stuff.
I tried this in every android and it worked.
In this moment I have a 50 $ plan so only 500 mb on 4G, rest of them being or is supose to be only 2G.
Trick: in jelly beam and now in CyanogenMod 11 there is A way to select your Preferred network type. 2G, 3G, 4G.
If you know you are in a 4G area but you don' t have this speed try to select 2G, wait about 30 seconds, in jelly beam till connection is changing in blue and after that go back and select 4G network.
In some ROM there isn't 4 G selection. So I was dialling *#*#4636#*#* and select there Lte/ Gsm connection. After the phone is showing 4G or Lte check the internet speed.
If someone need the prove can provide some screenshots
Now. The problem is that I have to do that everytime when I am loosing the signal. So if the modem will make a 2G connection and after that 4G it will be OK. But it is not like this. Phone is jumping to 4G and the speed is only 0.13 Mb.
OK. I know I am not paying to have more but their service is not as it is show.
So. I would like to know if someone else can do that. Select 2G wait a little bit and select 4G and wait to have the connection. Usually in 2 minutes it is OK.
2. Can someone give an idea how to make the phone to make a 2 G connection and after that the 4 G.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you really getting LTE and 4g on this phone by just unlocking it and putting a t-mobile sim card init, if lte and 4g is in the area???
Hey guys for those that will interest, by searching around I find out about this seller http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNLOCK-CODE...25293983?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123#viTabs
They are the cheapest I have encountered so far. there is a thread at the atrix hd forums that many have tried them and it works

No 3G/4G Just 2G Edge network !?

Hello folks,
I have an unlocked At&t LG G3 but I have a problem with internet data, most of the time I can get only 2G (Edge) speed, which is extremly slow. And rarley I get 4G network, I don't know how this is happening but the thing I'm sure about is when I restart the phone.. it goes back to 2G network.
My APN data is correct, and Network Mode in phone's settings has GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. I tried to dial the USSD code 3845*#850# however it says "connection problem or invalid mmi code".
I want 3G and 4G networks, what do you suggest me to do?

You never said what your carrier is, that would be the big factor in this. Maybe the phone doesn't support the bands that your carrier is using?

Maybe you where in a different area when it worked? Remember 1 area may have that band while another has 4G in a different band.
Also when you had 4G what did it say at the top of your phone? Did it say 4G or 4G LTE? If it just said 4G and your running stock rom that's actually HSPA/3G

I'm living at the center of a city where I'm surronded by network antennas.. I don't think that my issue has something to do with the carrier bands because I'm sitting at the moment at a place where 4G worked for me once.

Did you confirm it was either 3G or 4G/LTE under status? Cause since that was an AT&T phone in America they call 3G 4G that's why I was asking. Not sure what fulmics is based on. Also several other sites indicate that phone doesn't support your current carriers LTE band. And it supports half of a different carriers LTE band there.
Your current carrier is says no for LTE. And another carrier like Maroc Telecom it supports "some" of 4G bands.

Actually my current carrier is Maroc Telecom. But just today I bought an Orange sim card (Formerly Meditel) to test if 4G will work with this carrier but unfortunately it doesn't.. Maybe it will one day as I experienced with Maroc Telecom.

Stock rom would say 4G and have LTE in small letters below it.
The D850 only supports 1 4G band with Maroc Telecom and they have at least 2.
And the D850 seems to support no 4G bands with Meditel

I just have went outside and it looks like I'm getting 4G with Orange(Meditel). When I went back home, it switched back to 2G network, I think that was due to the signal being weak.

So yesterday, as I said in the previous post that I got 4G with Orange(Meditel). I took screenshots:
Here as you can see, I made a test internet and it's indeed 4G
Then, I changed Network Mode in phone's settings from "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" to "WCDMA only" and it looks like 3G(H) is also working fine. I made a test speed as you can see.
And then I thought I should restart the phone and see if I can still get 4G network. When the phone restarted I got at the begining Edge network but after a couple minutes it switched to 4G.
However, the next day which is Today, I was in another area with 5-bar signal.. I turned on internet data and I unfortunately I got only Edge network.. then I went back to the exact area where I got 4G yesterday.. but it never switched to 4G as you can see here:
And when I changed Network Mode in phone's settings to "WCDMA only" I got no signal, service disabled.

From what your describing. Id say its a mix of alot of things. One problem could be that the closest tower does not run your carrier. Thats why they always talk about network coverage. Not all towers serve every carrier. Especially carrier owned towers. The next thing is if your city is more like an actual city. Tall building can be a big problem for cell signals. Also if there are alot of cell towers close, you could be catchinf interference. Then theres also a secondary problem. If one or more of the cases i listed are taking place, your phone prioritizes you connection. If the for example 4G network is to congested or you have a weak signal to what ever is hosting that network, your phone will switch, and in your in a place with a bunch of networks being served and they are all interfering with each other causing bad reception, then that could definitely cause your problem.
Whats your area like as far as buildings and cell tower locations and about how many are there. Depending on your answer, i may have a solution.

Btw, idk about your 4g since the pic showed 16 down. Im on at&t and when im not throttled i get a max of 50mbps download and 10 to 15 up. And my verizon jetpack is around 25 to 35 down, 5 to 10 up. And both have 4G LTE.
Also, one thing i forgot to mention is that both the carriers you mention could have choppy networks running in your area or just in general.
Also, how many bars you have mean nothing. 5 bars on one carrier can be 2 on another be cause the reception level displayed is not standardized. If you want to accurately read your cell strength, you need to have it read out in its numbered form, idk what the standard measurement is called for cell signal strength but there is one. But there is no standard for how its displayed.
Remember this person is not in the USA speeds vary depending on county.. he's not using the phone on AT&T he's using an att phone in another country that doesn't fully support the bands 100%
