[Q] Cm 10.1-20130102 nightly s-voice/google search - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Pretty awesome and stable rom will use for a dd. I've been looking on the forums to see other peoples experiences, most are pretty good. I have a question on my own though. Is anyone having issues with google search / and s-voice? Does anyone know if there is a fix for these 2, or are they still in development?

I'm not sure about S-Voice (is it even possible to install that in CM?) but google search, voice search and text-to-speech all worked fine for me on 1/2/13 nightly. I dirty flashed from 12/26 nightly and have had no problems thus far.

Thanks for your input. I'm sorry for my ignorance, i'm still new on the rooting/rom scene. I assume that when you say "dirty flash" you mean, you don't restore to factory default, wipe the dalvik cash or cash? and just install over the original rom you were running before?

[Q] Inverted GAPPS for Nexus S

Hey Everyone,
I am really excited to see that there is Inverted GAPPS that can be flashed; however, when I look through the forums I see them under everything other than Nexus S.
I have been following the thread at Rootz Wiki (XDA won't let me post link as I have not submitted enough threads), it is for the Galaxy Nexus, and am wondering if the inverted GAPPS here work for the Nexus S, seems I cannot find the right answer anywhere.
I am on Codename Android 1.4.0 with Matr1x kernel. Any advice or proper download and instructions links would be appreciated.
Cheers!
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/15092-invertedtotally-inverted-apps-updated-2-16-google-reader-added/ most of these work for our nexus s i havent tried all of them though
Excellent! Yeah, thanks for the link. Can you tell me which ones worked for you? I'm hoping for Gmail, Email, Talk, Market and Calendar. Also, any special intructions on installing them? I read something about uninstalling updates....I'm not sure how to do that as I have never had to. Thanks in advance.
I should also mention that I flashed the new 404 GAPPS from Codename Android....is this an issue with the inverted GAPPS?

Not sure about this questions answer, but to answer above, yes. All of those you mentioned worked fine for me.
They have all worked for me on Nexus S and Desire S.
I got mine from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1435194

Codename Android 1.4.0 with Matr1x 16.5 kernel here. I've tried two different packages of of inverted gapps, and both seem to crash gmail. This thread* has a few pointers on getting them working, but between the new-to-me acronyms and the somewhat pigeony english, it's a little hard to understand.
Best I can guess is that you need to flash AOKP gapps, reboot, then flash the inverted apps one at a time (the multi-app pack seems to be more problematic).
That said, the ones I installed that work look absolutely phenomenal on the AMOLED screen.
* I'd post the link but the spam filter sez I need 8 posts to put up links. Suffice to say that if you google the phrase "page__st__760__p__478289", it should send you to the right place.

Try other nightly. But since you're really looking for a daily driver use stable and stable only.
As far as i understand nightlies are experimental and not meant for daily use.
You say that you have tried several radios, have you tested UCLL3 (that's a link)? Thats the latest (and imho best) radio yet. It's a native jellybean radio so it should work well with CM10.
Also wipe cache & dalvik cache not only factory reset (dalvik is under advanced in cwm).
Good luck

It happens with any nightly or stable ever since I upgraded from cm9 to cm10 but the radio you listed is the one I have I also notice it tends to lag slot no matter what the performance is set at

Well then i'm out of ideas. Wait for someone else too reply.
Have you tried going back to the beginning? Go back to stock and then flash CM10 Stable. Using the radio that was listed in post good luck.

[Q] Camera Problem w CM 10.1

Hey Guys -
I'm a little new to the forum, I've usually just had a friend who is more savvy with this stuff help me out. He refers to this site always so, instead of bothering him, I wanted to see if I could solve this problem myself.
I just flashed my ROM to CM 10.1 (the stable one found on their site) last night, and it works fine but I just noticed that the camera will not connect, no matter what app I'm in (camera, instagram, etc.).
Does anyone know of any way to fix this? I've been trying to research before posting on here, I saw someone say something about kernels, leankernel and ktoonsez's kernel? Again, I'm really new to this so I didn't quite understand what I needed to do.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Flash the I535VRBMB1 modem/radio from this thread..
It's a kernel issue from what I can tell. The above radio/modem reverts back to the previous modem/radio.
Ktoonz's kernel will fix the camera issue, but it will break your audio playback via Pandora. At least on mine (CM 10.1.0; KT747 6/26), it will only play in mono.

Interesting.
I switched from KT 6/26 to CM10.1.0 Stable stock kernel and audio worked fine. I figured it was KT 6/26's fault.
I should clarify: my issue is specifically with Pandora. The stock music app works fine.
Thanks guys for the quick responses! I'm looking for the kernel you're talking about on that other thread, but, and I realized I actually don't know how to specifically flash a kernel?
I've used Odin and everything before, under the instruction of my friend I referenced before, so I know my way around it, I just don't quite remember the steps. I just want to verify...the kernel file would be a .tar, and you would flash it with Odin PDA?
I'm sure there's steps I'm missing.
Got the file, last question (besides me asking the process of how to flash a kernel):
do I MD5 check the kernel file? I keep seeing that brought up in other threads
luckily, I just found that I can flash the kernel file via TWRP, so that's easier than Odin (Odin just scares me for some reason)
Ok all, I flashed that kernel. Phone is working fine. (I was nervous as hell before I told TWRP to flash the kernel)
But the camera is still not working....any other suggestions?

Flash this file the same way you flashed the kernel and update to the latest baseband. If that doesn't work, try reflashing the kernel after.

That seems to be the same file (from the same site) I downloaded and just flashed before. Is it different in some way?
Also, how do I go about upgrading my baseband?
thank!
The situation is a little confused right now.
The stable. CM10.1 release requires MB1 modem, the latest nightlies work with MF1. There is no requirement to change kernels, unless you really really want the stable release AND the mf1 modem.
If you read the first post in the official cm thread in QA or original development you'll see this along with links to the modem files.
I REALLY appreciate the help and opinions so far guys.
I'm hoping I've laid out everything I'm doing in a clear manner so you can follow along with what I'm doing.
After reading some of the replies, I think that I've done exactly what you all are saying, which is flashing that VRBMF1 kernel.
Unfortunately, the camera is still not working. Any suggestions?

MF1 is a modem not a kernel.
And you have two choices
1: stable 10.1.0 with MB1
2: latest nightlies with MF1
Other combinations won't work. If you have any more questions quote me in your post and I'll get an email notification.
Thanks
It worked! That MB1 modem flash got the camera working properly. Hopefully nothing else stopped working, but if it did, I'll be back here with the quickness haha.
Thank you guys all so much, I'm glad I decided to try and figure this out on this messageboard, you guys were most helpful!

My experience
I find that keeping all three of the modem AIO packages (MB1, MD3, MF1) in a folder on the phone or external sdcard can be helpful when switching ROMs to ensure you can flash whichever one works best. Also, sometimes installing the wrong gapps package can break certain things like the camera which cause them to crash or other normal functions of your phone. And so, I also keep my roms in their own folders with the appropriate gapps version for that particular ROM. You can check to see which versions of each you have in 'Settings > About Phone" If you already knew all of this I apologize. Just thought it could be helpful.

ROM Suggestion

OK,
So I have tried the Cyan and Omni ROM's.
I must have done something wrong with Cyan as Google Mail kept crashing during initial setup.
Omni has been working fine and seems solid.
So far I have only tried CM11 and Omni 4.4.2
I just want a fast yet stable ROM.
While the two I have tried do fit that bill I'm just wondering what the other options are.
I am a newbie to all this and have been using TWRP to flash the ROM's so it's been pretty simple so far.
Any input is welcome but as a newbie hopefully something similar or as simple to what I've been doing would be best (don't want to brick this thing TF300T)
Thank!

CROM1-x is usually both fast and stable, Android 4.2.2. I think you may have misflashed the gapps with the gmail crashes though, becuase I'm not getting those with CM11.

Im con CM11 and so far it has been excellent! Better than stock 4.2, you should flash it again.

[Q] Which CM version works best?

So I'm trying to prolong the use of this tablet but keep it stable and quick, and I think CyanogenMod is the way to go. There are a number of versions available for it, with 10.0 being the last stable build that I can find. I flashed 10.0 and it was quick and stable, except for one major problem: the Google+ app just would not load no matter what, and by searching I found others had the same issues with no fix.
So I'm back to stock 4.1.2 JB now, which is fine but I'd rather move to CM if I can. I flashed the latest nightly, but was having major issues with Gapps closing and the Play Store wasn't even available (even though I flashed the correct Gapps package).
For those that are using CM, which version is the best to use? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
Honestly, I use the CM11 builds and they are working great.

CM10.1 (based on 4.2.x) really great. I used it for the past few months.
Never give me problem. Of course you must install 2/20/13 JB Unified GApps.
Looking forward to try CM11 but having hard time with TWRP (big part) at the moment.

Another vote for CM11, but you do have to install BigPart. That isn't a big deal if you read carefully through the resource thread before proceeding. I'm certainly not a tech wizard (color TV and phones without dials were big deals when I was a kid, VCRs didn't come out until I was in college, and I was in my mid twenties when home computers just started to become widespread) and was able to run BigPart without trouble.
I got BigPart working successfully with no problems on the first go. Merely requires some reading and should work fine.
Break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat ROM!
