[Q] Can I flash a Canadian FIDO model to European firmware? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Can I flash a Canadian Fido model with the French SFR ROM? It's not a US Droid, so I'm assuming the bootloader is unlocked?
It looks like the Euro model is getting quicker firmware upgrades (they got JB late November, whilst the Canadian model is pending for Q1 2013), so I would prefer to be on that ROM!
Cheers,
Su

Your bootloader is locked, but can be unlocked. I wouldn't recommend going to European firmware though since I've been seeing a lot LTE issues when users switch off of the Rogers ROM. What's another month (or 2-3 weeks) anyways? You might end up spending a lot of time getting your phone to function just how it did on the Rogers firmware.

Hey,
I'm actually based in the UK, but thinking of picking up a Fido RAZR HD because they are much cheaper over there!
We have only one LTE network at the moment, and I'm not on it I'd prefer to have JB and HSPA+ if possible!
I've just come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35085808
Looks like the Australian ROM is using the new(er) version of JB?!
Thanks,
Su

JB "should" be out at the end of January for our phone claims Rogers. I would at least wait till Feb 1St b4 tinkering

I flashed the Fido Razr HD using an Australian JellyBean sbf with the Rogers modem_signed and fsg_signed files from ICS. Works a beaut, not sure which rom you would use the files for to get it working in the UK though. The Australian rom had minimal bloat and I didn't feel like waiting a month for Rogers/Fido to release JB.

Does the Rogers/Fido ROM have a lot of crapware in it?

Not too much... Nothing compared to Verizon! I saw like 7 or 8 bloatware applications when I first got my phone and was able to disable all of the apps I.don't use. Heck, they didn't even pre-load an ebook software!

Hey I just rooted my fido razr hd and I am wondering where you got those specific files and how you used them when flashing the Australian sbf.
Do you know if you can revert to the fido rom if you ever wanted?
Thanks in advance

I got them from the Fido/Rogers ICS rom. I opened the JellyBean rom with 7-zip and dragged and dropped the files along with an xml file found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054906
I missed a step when doing it and missed putting the fsg file in there and was without LTE, I was then able to use a fastboot script to flash it after. I have attached the script and fsg file. The modem file can be found in the referenced thread. You also need to have an unlocked bootloader.
I'm fairly certain we are able to SBF to the Rogers/Fido JB when it comes out safely. I would not SBF to a prior firmware like ICS myself....and why would you want to?

Thanks alot for this did you unlock the bootloader with the official motorola site? I don't like the idea of losing all warranty even though the phone seems to be built very nice

I have the fido one,
crapware, honestly about 4 apps, just like myaccount, vvm, ringtones and shop.
But when they sold me my phone it was apparently a Fido/Rogers verison, and i had to return the phone, then i got my new one i never hit SIM CONFIGURATION when it booted and now my rom is completely stock from factory, no crapware whatsoever! not even a fido boot screen.

I did, warranty's are made to be broken right?! lol
If I ever had a defect; I would return it to Fido anyways...they have no idea if it's been unlocked nor would they care to check.

Just a little warning for you ...
if you use a rogers/fido on UK :
you can flash any firmware with any radio file ... but YOU NEVER GET LTE ( NOT SAME BAND IT S HARDWARE NOT SOFTWARE )... and Rogers/Fido phone don't have dual carrier chip (42mbits)... only hspa+ chip (21 mbits)
if i have the choice i prefer pay 50 $ more to get lte or dc hspa ...

Hmm, well I assumed there would be physical hardware differences, but got different info from another thread:
EdwardN said:
Not exactly true. The XT925 firmware is what determines which radios are active. Having 700/800/1700/1800/2100/2600 all active at the same time would drain the battery like woah. Currently you can merge the radio you need into the rom you want to use, and make it work that way.

The DC-HSPA point is a good one though, thanks for the heads up so you're saying the Euro/LatAm model does support it?

For sure the xt925 have two model ... in canada only compatible to hspa up to 21 mbits and lte band 700 and aws ...
European device have dc hspa up to 42 mbis and all others lte band...
In first time this is hardware... after there are the base band... i have test all baseband and i don t get dc hspa with my razr hd

[Q] About replace the chinese rom with a english-based rom

I really love Atrix 2, and I have two options:
one for a chinese one, which is cheaper and unlocked, but i'll have to give up all the android apps and facebook, twitter, etc.
one for a att one, which is relatively expensive and locked, but loaded with all the apps i needed.
So, my question is that is it possible to flash a chinese Atrix 2 with a stock att rom or other English roms that has the apps loaded without being carrier-locked?
Thanks!
why not getting att one, first it is cheaper XD(att version release 2 months early than chinese one). Also it seems like it has more support on att version in here, since most rom here are base on att version here.
But the chinese version also has a white one, which i prefer. Plus, i can only buy the att version using ebay, while i can tell my dad to buy the chinese one and bring it for me

No you can not do this. The ROMs (fxz files) are hardware Dependant, and that includes the Radio. You can not flash an MB865 fxz (ROM) to an ME865 phone, and vise a versa.

[Q] What Xoom do i have.?

Last week I purchased a XOOM from a local importer (way less expensive than our telco's), but im not exactly sure what region its from.
Model : MZ601
Firmware Configuration Version : GAS_ASIA_USAEVRSTURTIRD_P037
Build Number: H.6.5-17-1
Has 32gb, 3g + WiFi , and also came with a UK power plug.
If anyone could identify what region my XOOM is from, or if its one of the GED models I've heard of (but im doubting its GED, I think they are just USA?
If I can find out where its from etc, then id know whether to wait for an official XOOM ICS update ofr it, or root & flash something custom.
Any help, greatly appreciated.
Thats a EU 3G Xoom.
And it likely won't be recieveing ICS from motorola or google for a while.

I suapected it was a uk model, but the firmware naming had me unsure. I had a look at the motorola xoom support site which lists the stock firmwares (always good to have a backup of stock just incase) but not sure which to download.
Us it worrh waitinf on stock for official ics, or is there a particular custom ics thats really worth flashing? ( bearing in mind im not that fussed on 3g capabilities at this stage.)

Q: Can I change from AT&T firmware to Asia Retail?

I have an Atrix 2 from the U.S. that I am using in Thailand. My current firmware version is 55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US. Can I flash the phone to the Asia Retail version without any problems? Is the hardware identical? If yes, how do I go about flashing it?
As I know, you can only flash AT&T fw
Flash others -> soft brick

I think yes, the proof is, while other Atrix 2 such as Chinese version, Indian version have ICS leak, we (AT&T) can not flash these leak, zzz

Instead of just guessing it would be nice if someone can state some facts and say what the exact differences are. The one they sell in Thailand has the exact same HSDPA/UMTS bands as the AT&T one so I would think they are identical hardware. Someone who actually knows something please enlighten us.

The two main differences between the international A2s and the AT&T A2 are:
1) Hardware differences. AT&T's A2 has different GPS, radio, and wifi chips than the international A2s.
2) The international A2s and the AT&T A2 have different bootloader signatures... so we would not be able to even begin flashing the fxz in order to flash the ICS update.
PS. Next time please search first ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26978219&postcount=261 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28463789&postcount=24 etc etc

Please be more specific. Give us the manufacturer part numbers for these supposedly different chips. Then we have somewhere to start working from.
Cogeary is dead on my friend, and we didn't engineer the phone so we can't give exactly specific chip numbers and so fourth but yes, he is right, and very reputable.
Even if you some how magically got it to install, you would have no phone calling capabilities due to the radio issue.
Moving to that firmware, is just an impossibility. It'd be a soft brick waiting to happen.
However, it's your call, feel free to flash it! Just make sure you're ready to flash the fxz.
Just be patient and wait for ICS with the rest of us.

I checked some more and the one sold here in Thailand is an ME865, even thought it has the same exact freqs as the ATT one. Different hardware deliminators so definitely some major differences. Yes, I will wait for ICS as I don't want to brick my phone. I had more fun (even though I like the Atrix better) with my LG G2X because with the unlocked bootloader and ability to install CWM recovery to the phone it was virtually unbrickable.

New Baseband. No Network. HELP!

Hello XDA!
So, I made the mistake of making an OTA upgrade to my Atrix 2 and this is where Im at.
Sys Version: 55.28.37.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: 2012-03-28 12:22 Off.Bld LUD_EDISON_R1EP29_TO_422313_001_120328_120
I'm running on Vodafone India (Mumbai)
The Phone now no longer catches any network at some places in the city! It shuffles between Emergency Mode, No Network and the Red Slashed Circle.
Funny thing is, It was fine earlier & I do get network on other operators. And what's even more strange is that if i put my SIM in another phone. (SGS3) Im getting full network!
HELP!!!
i had the exact same problem, but with reboot issues too , i solved it by flashing ics zip, because it comes with its own radio.
i have at&t phone though

Been thru the same issue right from the time I bought my phone.
Vodafone Mumbai has Only 32k type of Sim cards (i know this cos ive directly asked them abt it at the vfne store) which arent compatible with the new update (55.28.37). So ur phone cant catch the network and m guessing ur phone is draining a lot of battery too.
I had to switch to Docomo to get a 64k Sim, which is compatible. (though im still using vfne in another phone )
the moto ppl have told me that ICS is gonna sort this issue, but im not too hopeful of that. So better u get another carrier and get that 64k Sim or don't update and wait for ICS. (u'll have to take ur phone to moto service centre to downgrade it)
I got a new Sim cos I was having problems with batt drain and also cos of the non compatible update.
Edit: I used to barely get 9 - 10hrs with the vfne Sim before the update and a 64k Sim sorted that issue too.

New Update on the Problem
Firstly,
Thanks for all the help. You guys are awesome.
I realised that the Motorola Service Center was right next to where I work. So I Uncheesecaked, Unbootstrapped & Unrooted my phone and gave it to those guys to see what they do, exactly.
And in 15 minutes, they downgraded my phone to this version which works:
Sys Version: 55.1.27.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: 2012-01-20 19:57 Off.Bld LUD_EDISON_R1E_PATCH_23_120120_1943
Build Number: 5.5.1-EDEM-27
Result: I have network everywhere now. Its working fine. So this is the baseband I need. But that smoothness which the 55.28.37 had is no longer there.
Nevertheless, I can start modding this phone a fresh now.
Needed to confirm one thing though. If i get myself into this problem again. Which radio from the droiddevelopers website should i flash?
519.2 MiB 63EF21A6DF3869329AB6B0A54CD74F8F Retail Asian <- which ArchMag3 recommended?

Vodafone network problem after update
Hello,
i am also facing the similar problem after doing an update, i am from India (Mumbai) having 55.28.37.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
It would be great if you can explain the steps in more details, as i am confused if i have to unzip the file on computer or on phone, step by step explanation will be more helpful.
my another question was after doing this flash will the warranty be broken ? is this something similar to root the phone. i dont want to break my phone warranty as i have purchased recently just a month back.
Thanks for the help in advance. and awaiting to hear favourable response from you

Hey, If you're new to flashing stuff just head to one of the service centers and they'll roll it back in half an hour. Easy Peasy. In this way you don't have to worry about your warranty as well.
Though I had rooted my phone, i just unrooted it and took it to them and they couldn't realise that i had voided my warranty.
they'll bring it down to the 5.5.1-EDEM-27 firmware, which is available on the link thats provided in this chain.
Hope it works.

It is from Claro PR and the box says it is 4G LTE.
I only get H+ at less than 7 Mbps down and no more than 1mbps up. With my S4 I get between 6 to 22 mbps down and 5 to 12 up.
Any Idea what could be the problem. I'm using the stock ClaroPR firmware posted here and all I get is H+.
Any one there that could help me?

Claro LTE works on 07 band (2600 MHz) and AT&T works on 04 band (1700 MHz).

Yeah there are basically two versions of the GSM LTE RAZR HD - one supports 700 / 1700 / 2100 and I think is only available in Canada, whilst the other version supports 800 / 1800 / 2600, and is available in Lat Am and Europe.
Sounds like you have the second version, which as rafjak says, will not work with either T-Mobile or AT&T LTE
You can't use LTE, it's not compatible.

Too bad!

Just flash a rom with the correct modem. I dont which one has the correct ones for at&t.
Or you can always flash a custom rom.
Sometime ago i was using brazils jellybean when i live in mexico. I just added mexicos modem files to the brazil rom.

I'm a little confused now! So does that mean that the problem could be fixed flashing other modem? If that is correct could some one point out which one should I use to work with At&t 4G LTE?

If the only problem is not having lte then yes.
The modem is flashed since the beggining. So you would need to reflash you rom.
You extract the modem file from what ever rom has the correct file had replace the one youre using. Or simply flash a rom with the correct modem file.
I had the brazil retail rom since it is bloatless from the get go.

Well I can tell that with At&t as provider I get H+ with data.
Can any one confirm if I could get LTE by flashing other modem and what modem should I use?
I just downloaded and tried Rogers Canada Modem and it did not work. All I still get is H+.
I'm using a Fido RAZR HD (original, not reflashed), and it works fine on T-Mobile LTE (same bands at AT&T I think).
Are you sure you have an LTE-capable SIM card? And also your plan includes LTE access? Are you using a direct AT&T plan, and not an MVNO (e.g. Aio).

Yes I'm sure I have LTE card and plan. I understand that T-Mobile Band is completely different from AT&T band... or am I incorrect?
I found this on Wikipedia and it seems that they are not so different. Can someone explain this to me?
Operator Country Frecuency (MHz) Band
AT&T Puerto Rico 700 c 17
AT&T Puerto Rico 1700 d e 4
Claro PR (PRTC) Puerto Rico 700 b 17
T-Mobile PR Puerto Rico 1700 f 4
So, I have LTE that only works on AT&T frequencies... I need it to work on the Europe frequencies 800/1800/2600. Is there a way I can change the modem files without reflashing? I got root, but locked bootloader... :s
I have the same issue. I have phone from Claro PR but I am from Europe. The LTE does not working due to wrong frequency.
Should I upload a new modem driver ? or should I flash my phone ? What is less harmful for my phone
My phone is rooted and I have unlocked bootloader.
