[Q] About replace the chinese rom with a english-based rom - Motorola Atrix 2

I really love Atrix 2, and I have two options:
one for a chinese one, which is cheaper and unlocked, but i'll have to give up all the android apps and facebook, twitter, etc.
one for a att one, which is relatively expensive and locked, but loaded with all the apps i needed.
So, my question is that is it possible to flash a chinese Atrix 2 with a stock att rom or other English roms that has the apps loaded without being carrier-locked?
Thanks!

why not getting att one, first it is cheaper XD(att version release 2 months early than chinese one). Also it seems like it has more support on att version in here, since most rom here are base on att version here.

But the chinese version also has a white one, which i prefer. Plus, i can only buy the att version using ebay, while i can tell my dad to buy the chinese one and bring it for me

No you can not do this. The ROMs (fxz files) are hardware Dependant, and that includes the Radio. You can not flash an MB865 fxz (ROM) to an ME865 phone, and vise a versa.

But if i buy an att one, can it be unlocked with the 3g network properly functioning?

That is not something we discuss in here, but I am sure a google search will get you what you need pretty quick. I have heard it is possible though.

Change my Xoom to US?

I'm sick of being treated like dirt by Motorola, and will never buy anything from them again.
But for now I'm stuck with my Xoom Wi-Fi, unable to upgrade to ICS because Motorola doesn't give a stuff!
Is there a way to change my region settings from Australia to US?
I'm guessing if the update thought I had a US Xoom it would update it for me.
Sorry to hear that man. Not sure about changing regions, just root it and Install the latest ICS 4.0.4 Custom ROM.

I GEDified my Aussie MZ604 using the image from the Motorola site. Now running 4.0.4 and its really good.

Are you kidding? Motorola alone chose to release ICS in the US only, it has nothing to do with any country.
Thanks to the rest of you, looking into it.
Hmm no google has control of the USA wifi xooms that's there test baby. Why do u think there are tweeks like SD card on forign motorola xooms and not the USA xooms? Motorola just sends out the os for google on the USA xooms.

Wrong. The US WiFi only is a Google Experience Device (GED) and GOOGLE handles updates for it, NOT Motorola.

Updates come from Motorola, who have issued release dates for foreign owned Xooms.

You'll need to register (free) as a Motorola dev to download the US Honeycomb image from their site, or just download it from somewhere else. Then once it's flashed, your device will update itself via the official OTAs all the way to ICS 4.0.4.

Simplest and fairly fool-proof instruction. I used this to change my region to US. Got pushed to ICS by doing the steps listed above and then checking for updates. Worked GREAT!
Just GEDify my brother version to US and very easy using the guide
although find some differences. but that make it easier

[Q] New phone... To me. suggestions?

I currently own a droidx on verizon but I'm tired of the monthly $110 so I am switching to t mobile $30 prepaid. I just ordered a unlocked lg g2x running android 2.2 from ebay. It appears to be an amazing phone. I have experience in rooting the droid x installing roms etc. but lg is newish to me.
I assume first I should root the phone then install a boot loader and do a backup.
But after I'm a little hazy about. Do I update it then root it again or is there a one click program that will update and install root from my current version?
I assume tethering works in the same manner. And I can't find anything new about throttle override for t mobile. Does one exist? I mean I typically use 6gb every month now.
Thanks for your help and guidance
Mike
Boot loader is already unlocked. No need to root. Simply install cwm via nvflash. Download the rom you want to use. And install it via cwm. All the info you need is in the dev section.

I got my phone in this week, it actually shipped with:
version 2.3.3
baseband m6600a-scautnz-2.0.9720t 1[jul 15 2011 10:00:00] mp:trulge_08.09.02r_mdm
kernal 2.6.32.9
software lg-p999-v21e
build gri40
I plan on using the phone on he $30 dollar plan because I plan on travelling and swapping sim cards when I visit my friend in japan among other places. The phone is unlocked and works with a AT&T card I hope it works outside the country too.
This lg is alot different than my droidx and an lg optimus I worked on. between what you told me and what the Guide told me, think I understand. I havent put anything on the phone yet, been waiting for my sim card
Question though, is there a reason to update the baseband? and when/if I do will it interfer with forgien sims?
LG G2X is a "stock android" it doesn't have a overlay or different UI on it... but does have a butt load of LG (poopy) coding, which is why root and a different rom is so good.
there is no reason to change base-band, IMO, from the one you are on. I had the latest base-band (Mar '12) and it has a little pllus to it like the GPS was a tad bit faster, but it had more downfalls, you cant have any other custom rom on it besides the one Kwes is working on and that won't cut it for my personal flavor as it doesn't get the kind of battery life CM7 base roms will get FOR ME.
base-band should not make a difference when it comes to changing sim cards and traveling.

Q: Can I change from AT&T firmware to Asia Retail?

I have an Atrix 2 from the U.S. that I am using in Thailand. My current firmware version is 55.13.25.MB865.ATT.en.US. Can I flash the phone to the Asia Retail version without any problems? Is the hardware identical? If yes, how do I go about flashing it?
As I know, you can only flash AT&T fw
Flash others -> soft brick

I think yes, the proof is, while other Atrix 2 such as Chinese version, Indian version have ICS leak, we (AT&T) can not flash these leak, zzz

Instead of just guessing it would be nice if someone can state some facts and say what the exact differences are. The one they sell in Thailand has the exact same HSDPA/UMTS bands as the AT&T one so I would think they are identical hardware. Someone who actually knows something please enlighten us.

The two main differences between the international A2s and the AT&T A2 are:
1) Hardware differences. AT&T's A2 has different GPS, radio, and wifi chips than the international A2s.
2) The international A2s and the AT&T A2 have different bootloader signatures... so we would not be able to even begin flashing the fxz in order to flash the ICS update.

Please be more specific. Give us the manufacturer part numbers for these supposedly different chips. Then we have somewhere to start working from.
Cogeary is dead on my friend, and we didn't engineer the phone so we can't give exactly specific chip numbers and so fourth but yes, he is right, and very reputable.
Even if you some how magically got it to install, you would have no phone calling capabilities due to the radio issue.
Moving to that firmware, is just an impossibility. It'd be a soft brick waiting to happen.
However, it's your call, feel free to flash it! Just make sure you're ready to flash the fxz.
Just be patient and wait for ICS with the rest of us.

I checked some more and the one sold here in Thailand is an ME865, even thought it has the same exact freqs as the ATT one. Different hardware deliminators so definitely some major differences. Yes, I will wait for ICS as I don't want to brick my phone. I had more fun (even though I like the Atrix better) with my LG G2X because with the unlocked bootloader and ability to install CWM recovery to the phone it was virtually unbrickable.

Nexus S i9020a (AT&T) and Jelly Bean Crashing

So I have upgraded my Nexus S i9020a (AT&T) with ROM from the google dev site....
(I cannot post links yet)
developers.google.com -> android/nexus/images
I installed the JRO03E base OS from the T-Mobile / Global version (sojujro03e)
and just the radio from (sojuajro03e)
For the most part things are working fine but it does seem to crash on me while on calls a couple times a day (which is like and 1/4 of the time) so far.
I guessing this crashing is due to my mixing of roms but I figured I would ask if
1) Has anyone else tried this and what is their experience?
2) Is anyone seeing crashing with the sojuajro03e or sojujro03e as is?

Thanks for the info yes I can go back to that to a the pure AT&T rom. I am just saying there may or may not be some benefits to having a rom that does not call back to AT&T so they can double charge you for the same data you already pay them for.

[Q] Can I flash a Canadian FIDO model to European firmware?

Hey,
Can I flash a Canadian Fido model with the French SFR ROM? It's not a US Droid, so I'm assuming the bootloader is unlocked?
It looks like the Euro model is getting quicker firmware upgrades (they got JB late November, whilst the Canadian model is pending for Q1 2013), so I would prefer to be on that ROM!
Cheers,
Su

Your bootloader is locked, but can be unlocked. I wouldn't recommend going to European firmware though since I've been seeing a lot LTE issues when users switch off of the Rogers ROM. What's another month (or 2-3 weeks) anyways? You might end up spending a lot of time getting your phone to function just how it did on the Rogers firmware.

Hey,
I'm actually based in the UK, but thinking of picking up a Fido RAZR HD because they are much cheaper over there!
We have only one LTE network at the moment, and I'm not on it I'd prefer to have JB and HSPA+ if possible!
I've just come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35085808
Looks like the Australian ROM is using the new(er) version of JB?!
Thanks,

I flashed the Fido Razr HD using an Australian JellyBean sbf with the Rogers modem_signed and fsg_signed files from ICS. Works a beaut, not sure which rom you would use the files for to get it working in the UK though. The Australian rom had minimal bloat and I didn't feel like waiting a month for Rogers/Fido to release JB.
Does the Rogers/Fido ROM have a lot of crapware in it?
Not too much... Nothing compared to Verizon! I saw like 7 or 8 bloatware applications when I first got my phone and was able to disable all of the apps I.don't use. Heck, they didn't even pre-load an ebook software!

I got them from the Fido/Rogers ICS rom. I opened the JellyBean rom with 7-zip and dragged and dropped the files along with an xml file found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054906
I missed a step when doing it and missed putting the fsg file in there and was without LTE, I was then able to use a fastboot script to flash it after. I have attached the script and fsg file. The modem file can be found in the referenced thread. You also need to have an unlocked bootloader.
I'm fairly certain we are able to SBF to the Rogers/Fido JB when it comes out safely. I would not SBF to a prior firmware like ICS myself....and why would you want to?

But when they sold me my phone it was apparently a Fido/Rogers verison, and i had to return the phone, then i got my new one i never hit SIM CONFIGURATION when it booted and now my rom is completely stock from factory, no crapware whatsoever! not even a fido boot screen.

Just a little warning for you ...
if you use a rogers/fido on UK :
you can flash any firmware with any radio file ... but YOU NEVER GET LTE ( NOT SAME BAND IT S HARDWARE NOT SOFTWARE )... and Rogers/Fido phone don't have dual carrier chip (42mbits)... only hspa+ chip (21 mbits)
if i have the choice i prefer pay 50 $ more to get lte or dc hspa ...

Hmm, well I assumed there would be physical hardware differences, but got different info from another thread:
EdwardN said:
Not exactly true. The XT925 firmware is what determines which radios are active. Having 700/800/1700/1800/2100/2600 all active at the same time would drain the battery like woah. Currently you can merge the radio you need into the rom you want to use, and make it work that way.
