Important Notes
Be aware, that installing any stock ROM, is only possible with a stock recovery on board, or with restoring the stock recovery itself - in case it has been changed. If you return your device to a service point with custom ROM or recovery on, it would void your warranty.
Also note, that we take no responsibility at all for any data loss, or damage you may cause to your device. Any modifications shall be carried out on your own responsibility!
The modified software will not unlock your phone. And we don't know about any unofficial unlocking methods either. However if you do, don't hesitate to share.
Useful tips for installing
Read through the current steps before actually start a method, and apply the steps precisely
Plug the phone directly to the computer, don't use any extension cables, adapters, hubs, etc ...
It's important that you use the rear USB plugs of the PC, instead of the front ones (doesn't matter in case of notebooks)
If you're not sure about the drivers, (re)install them. If the computer still doesn't detect the phone, then turn it off while it's connected to the computer, then press the (phone) power button shortly. The PC should find the phone after this, and install it (could be a solution especially for XP)
Try another USB cable, or if you have the chance, test it with another computer
Between unsuccessfull attempts, you can also consider rebooting the computer
Next v2 custom ROM with CWM recovery
Installing CWM recovery (beta)
Install the official ZTE drivers, if you haven't done it already.
Download this CWM package to your computer, and check it with MD5 Checksum Verifier for MD5: d69833693794242e78d990eec33cdb66, then extract it.
Go to the phone Settings > Development Settings > USB debugging > check it.
Plug the phone to the computer via USB.
Start the extracted recovery.exe file, and wait a bit. The process has finished if you see the press any key to continue ... message.
Press any key to close the application, unplug the device from the PC, and you're done.
The recovery is available by pressing the POWER + VOLUME DOWN buttons, from a phone-off state.
There are some custom roms, where you can get to the recovery from the power menu too.
You can step in recovery with the VOLUME UP and DOWN buttons, and use the power button for ok/enter.
Installing Next v2 custom ROM
All user applications (installed subsequently), settings, contacts, sms', etc ... will be deleted by installing the software, thus everybody should make a backup.
Download the Next v2 custom ROM, to your computer and check it for MD5: 09f15186c9fe031dd1f9572d682e14f5.
Copy the downloaded ROM_NeXt_v2.zip file (without extracting it), to the root of an SD card.
Put the SD card in your phone, while it's turned off.
Press and hold the POWER + VOLUME DOWN buttons, until the Intel logo shows up.
After the logo appeared, release the buttons, and wait until the recovery loads.
Choose the install zip from sdcard > choose zip from external sdcard option, and browse the ROM_NeXt_v2.zip file.
After the successfull installation, choose reboot system now.

Right, I didn't think of that.
New links are up.
Btw, the Next v2 custom rom with CWM Recovery is on its way here, if anyone would be interested.

Very good and, yes! Interested!

I want romanian stock recovery version: GXI_V1.0.0B01 Because my phone is that version how ever I bought this phone in Finland. But I'm assuming that is same stock recovery.
I need because my phone is freezing/booting. I was going to return this phone back to where I bought it.

Okay, since the Slovakian recovery is already done, and comes together with the Hungarian, Polish, and Macedonian ones to the OP tonight, the next will be the Romanian recovery, likely in the following few days.

Do you know how to get rid of root because I rooted with GXI_root_NGT and I need to get that away. Thanks anyway
EDIT: Stock Recovery question. Do I run that .zip file from CWM recovery? I'm just asking before Romanian recovery come

We don't have an unroot method right now, and not planning one either, so the best for you would be just to wait a bit for the Romanian reco and restore your stock ROM with it. And then the root will be gone.
Which .zip file? The custom ROM .zip file is for CWM.
The stock ROM .zip files are for the stock recoveries. The description is on its way for that.

I see now when I check they are exe files like connect your phone to pc with usb debugging and run that?

Yeah, they are pretty much the same as in case of the CWM recovery, you just have to make a choice with picking the original recovery after running the .exe

Will supersu be deleted when running stock rom? because I just restore my backup where root was not working but there is still supersu. Or can you tell how to remove supersu?

Which backup? The ZTE kind of?
Anyway, restoring a stock rom supposed to (and most likely will) delete both user and system data, so everthing, including superuser and root.

I backup with CWM recovery but root is not working in there. I used Bin4ry v18. Hoping that stock rom helps me getting this device to service. You take your time to do your best work. Thanks!
EDIT: I done Factory Reset and boom 30min of playing with phone and open up netflix BOOM Freeze!
EDIT2: So I can't return my device in warranty service with that stock recovery when it comes?

I can't seem to find the root file link, only the CWM and stock recovery files. Is it still active and working?
Edit: Sorry, ignore my non noob question. What I wanted to do is root my phone with its stock room so that I can use Set CPU and assign profiles.

Well, it's quite much the same with stock ROMs, we didn't really do performance modifications. Without available kernel source it's to hard.
That's my stats with minimalistic use. But if I watch movies, listening to net radio, browsing a lot, etc ... it discharges in 1 day.

Do you have the AUS version of the Ideos? If so, who'd you get yours from?
Also, can we use this thread as a ROM request? (i.e. overclocking ability, gingerbread development)
Thanks. But can you plz post a guide or give a link on how to install the modified ROM in IDEOS for noobs like me

Yes I have the AU version and I bought a Crazy Johns pack with 4GB micro HCSD carded included from Aus. Post for 159AUD. I was luck and go one that was not locked to any network.
Yes you can use the thread for ROM requests, I personally will be ignoring requests for OCing, as there is a very nice little app called setCPU which works great on the U8150.
[How to] install recovery and custom ROMs
I hold no responsibility to how you use or not use this info and if you brick phone - you do this at your own risk
Part 1 Installing Recovery ROM
Please refer to this post before flashing Recovery ROM - AmonRA Recovery 1.6.2 and BLUE Screen
The custom recovery allows you to do all sorts of lovely things such as installing ROM update zips (for the forthcoming custom ROMs), wiping various parts of the device, backing up and restoring and much more.
You can enter recovery mode - turn it off, then press the power button while holding the 'volume up' and 'send' (green).
Downloads
AmonRA Recovery 1.6.2 - DOWNLOAD (MediaFire Pro) / MIRROR (CoBlitz / ROMraid) - MD5: 65d4dcbbedb956a9f88dd1981fb31ef8
How to install - Windows, Linux and OSX
Download the recovery image of your choice above and extract the zip file
Put your device in bootloader mode - turn it off, then press the power button while holding the 'Volume Down' and 'End (Red)' keys
WINDOWS - double click 'install-recovery-windows.bat'
MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-recovery-mac.sh' followed by './install-recovery-mac.sh'
LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-recovery-linux.sh' followed by './install-recovery-linux.sh'
Part 2 Installing Custom ROM
Note: When using the Custom Recovery image use the Trackball to move up / down and press to select. Use the volume down button to go back.
Download a Custom ROM of your choice and place the ENTIRE ZIP (Do not extract it) onto the root of your SD card. By "Root" I mean do not place the file in any subfolders
Enter recovery mode - turn it off, then press the power button while holding the 'volume up' and 'send' (green).
From Custom Recover Main menu and select the 'Backup/Restore' option. Choose a 'Nand backup' and let it run it's course
Return to the Custom Recover Main menu and select the 'Wipe' option. Choose the First option 'Wipe data/factory reset' and confirm. <- this is optional after installing one of my ROMs. I personally have not bothered with it with my ROMs
Return to the Custom Recover Main menu and select the 'Flash zip from sdcard'. Select the custom rom you wish to flash, confirm and wait.
Part 3 Restoring back to original ROM
Note: Upgrade operations will erase the user data.
Find and Download ROM from Link provided on WiKi that you want to install
Copy the entire dload folder (with UPDATE.APP in it) to the root directory of the MICRO SD card.
Make sure your handset is power off. Insert the MICRO SD card into the handset. Pressing the END key and VOLUME UP key, and then press the POWER key to power on the phone and enter the Software Upgrade Mode.
You can see process bar start from 0 on the screen. (this take a few minutes)
Then the handset will restart automatically. Then it is OK.

I got the same deal!
Have you played around with the kernel at all? I'm not experienced in programming etc. but apparantly to OC the IDEOS U8150 more than 600mhz (setcpu does this automatically), it needs a kernel hack like other phones do.

I have played around with Linux Kernels in the past just not the Android kernel yet... but I am sure it not that hard to patch it and recompile.
I am happy with the 600MHz that setCPU unlocks it too.

The Main thinkg about these two parts here, when i enter recovery mode i get a blue screen is that right... nothing BUT a blue screen.
When i try to enter the bootloader mode it stays on the IDEOS logo, the first one when you turn it on...
Also im guessing it has to be plugged into the usb at all times for these.

You should not be getting a blue screen, you sure your using the correct key combination?
Yes you need the USB cable plugged in to use the bootloader. Yes the bootloader is ment to just sit at the IDEOS logo
yeah im 100% sure i used the correct key combo for the restore recovery mode, and sweet as for the bootloader, just wasnt 100% sure on that one.
Thank you OP for the info here, I used them to flash the recovery and I'm going to flash your ROM.
Having a Desire from the very first day I'm not new to these things, but this little boy is in my hands since this afternoon and it's amazing that you came with this just in time.
Will report back in a while with impressions.
OK, here I am. Just attempted to flash the ROM (after a full wipe), but it fails with an "Installation aborted." message just after the ISO symlink one. Looking at the update script, I guess there was a problem while flashing the BOOT partition.
Rebooting into the OS result in the new (rooted) ROM, but something is missing: the build.prop is likely the old one (I still see the old build string) and I have only 118 MB of free NAND space.
Coming from the Vodafone Italy ROM.
Any hint?

I had the same problems as @ngel using the newer version. Fail with the iso symlink.
Used the first version you posted up and that worked without a problem.
Zeam Launching is really snappy. Or I just haven't bogged down my phone with a whole bunch of crap yet.
Thanks for your work I bought my Ideos through 2 Degrees in New Zealand.
Request:
I quite like the look of the black notification bar and green icons. Would you be able to theme this rom with those? Also could you include the gingerbread keyboard. I know I can install it separately but would be cool to have Touch Pal and the original keyboard removed and replaced with the gingerbread one.

It contains much of the original 1.000.24 ROM, combined with some of the Smartoonay ROM. Some apps have been removed, some other apps have been added.
Install instructions
Install ClockworkMod Recovery
Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery (Volume-Up, Focus & Poweron)
Copy "Nika's ROM - CWM - v1.1.zip" to your external (!) sdcard (and optionally: the Smartoonay Kernel)
Note: internal sdcard is not supported by Clockworkmod Recovery
Make a backup of current ROM: "backup and restore" --> Backup
Optional: Perform factory reset: wipe data/factory reset
Install "Nika's ROM - CWM - v1.1.zip": "install zip from sdcard" --> "choose zip from sdcard" --> Select "Nika's ROM - CWM - v1.1.zip"
Optional: If no factory reset, make sure to "wipe cache partition"
If you want to try the Smartoonay Kernel, install it now... (download see next post)

Hi nikagl,
Glad to see someone making another ROM for the Smart. It will prove valuable for people unable to install Smartoonay.
I'll give it a shot if I can find some time.
Regards,
Thank you very much for your work.
I am planning on trying out an S300 for T-Mo US despite the lack of 3G support here.
I was turned off by some of the problems related to Smartoonay
Just to let you know, I think I created this rom on 1.000.19. Gonna update it to 1.000.24 sometime next week (currently on holiday)...
Would you pls tell me more.......
Dear Nikagl,
Truly appreciate your hard working on this ROM. I like this phone so much and so happy to find the ROM finally.
I've download the 2 files you split, but I have trouble to merge these 2 files together. Would you pls tell me how to unzip the files?
I will give it a try and give you some feedbacks.
Thank you so much and have a great day there.

I have uploaded it to SourceForge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/nika-s300-rom/files/Nika_s_ROM_v1.0.zip/download
But please be aware, current build is based on 1.000.19 and I wil upgrade it to 1.000.24 soon... more news when I have time
Regards,
Nika.
Hi all,
I have figured out a way to install the Smartoonay ROM, see the Smartoonay thread. This project is therefore discontinued, unless someone has a good suggestion for what to change to either ROM (I can modify Smartoonays ROM in some respect too)...
Regards,
Nika.
Sorry to hear that you won't continue....
Dear Nikagl,
It is so pity that you decided not to continue the ROM. I tried to installed your ROM for several times, unfortunately, it won't work. I installed the CWM 4.0.0.8. first. It works! , I followed your instructions to carry on but when I tred to install it from the external SD and restored it from the backup, it failed and show " MD5 mismatch".
Maybe the reason is current build is based on 1.000.19. and should upgrade it to 1.000.24. My one is 1.000.24. I think. (Gen 2 )
Once you decide to work on your ROM. I will happy to try again.
Sincerely thank you for your efforts so much. You are great. I think I will donate one day.
Have a nice day over there.
Jerry
No worries, I'll make one soon as I don't like several things in the Smartoonay rom. With regards to your md5 error - can you try downloading it again?
Added my 1.1 version of the ROM. See first post for all details
Enjoy, and let me know
Regards,
Nika.

Even though this is for the old method I used (backup/restore) I did want to shed a light on this. MD5 Mismatch is often caused by the files on the sdcard getting corrupted. When you check, you'll see that the file somehow turned into 0kb. Not sure yet, but I think there's some issue with the debugging mount in Acer ROMs or this version of the CWM Recovery.
Nevertheless, workaround is as follows:
1. Use the Mount USB from CWM
2. Copy the files onto the sdcard
3. Copy/paste one more extra file or duplicate the backup you want to install
4. Install the backup in the same session (do not reboot or something)
Some more tips:
1. For backups - always copy them to your pc immediately after making it (with the USB mount in CWM)
2. It is possibly to "reMD5" your files - see this thread: only do this when you do not have 0 kb files and are sure the backup is intact!!
3. When you install/restore something and it turns out the be corrupt, reboot into recovery again - if you fix it, and try it again in the same session it will "remember" the old status somehow...
Good luck
Regards,
Nika.

The translation is actually very well, perfect! You will probably loose all settings but you will get a working phone back when you simply install one of the stock ROMs. I have had this issue several times when working on new ROMs and stock ROM always fixes it. Just install 1.000.19 or 1.000.24. You can either download them from the Acer website, or get them from Vache's website:
http://global-download.acer.com/GDF... SMART (S300)&OS=a06&LC=nl&BC=Acer&SC=EMEA_18
http://vache-android.com/v1/index.php?site=files&cat=30
http://vache-android.com/v1/index.php?site=files&file=123
http://vache-android.com/v1/download.php?fileID=123
Then simply connect the device to your PC. Maybe you need to install the drivers (download from Acer) as well and then just run the setup from the Stock firmware...
Good luck!

Nika.

Typically blind as a bat, I only just noticed this thread! I've not tried flashing yet as my main desire for flashing would be an overclockable ROM. To that end, I'm wondering, have you tried compiling your own kernel from source, yet?
I do have an environment to be able to compile kernels, like I compiled the 5.x version of the recovery (did you see that, being blind as a bat ) but I don't have any of the kernel sources and wouldn't know where to find them either. And honestly... I am way to lazy to recompile the sources from scratch.
Did you try the overclocked kernel I added to the Smartoonay thread? As you own a similar device as mine, you may have the same issue where it doesn't boot, but for paugustin it works so maybe it does for you too?

Stock reserved place in m810 for system partition is ~1,6 gb. Making firmware less, won't bring any changes, unless repartitioning it to lets say 1,1 gb. This operation needs lot of system knowledge from people who will install it.. And profit of changes will be only 500 mb? is nothing.
m812 has partition of 3 gb, that's huge, but suitable for oxdexed roms.
repartition means- you need to change start sectors of emmc in order to set sizes of system, cache. Everything before those partitions remain the same.
Ok, tweak as promised

Thanks
@ heineken78
I've just finished the new Rom install. I followed instructions and had no issue . Rebooted via recovery and installed my stuffs.
-Wifi reception is the same as before and always weaker than my other phones. (minus 8 db)
-GPS IS NOT GETTING ANY FIX. 25 SAT in view and no one fixed.
-New Rom is a HUGE bit of improvement and feel more pleasant and very fast.
-DISPLAY is vibrant and very well set. Automatic mode is perfect also at night reading. good
- Battery leak in stand by is impressively low. less 1% full night. very good
THANKS TO THE TEAM BUILDING FOR THIS REALIZATION.

I had GPS slow fix and A-GPS problems also with Stock...
GPS Part is not in this ROM's Engineering Menu available (probably some APK's missing), so I didn't tested it - planing to do it today...
But this ROM is fast and all works stable, very good to start with.
I miss some Features seen in Stock and CM:
- Virtual Operator Network Name not shown - only real network - in Stock ROM it was OK
- no National Data Roaming feature (only Data Roaming), saw this on some CM builds and Samsung phones
- if I'm in roaming I don't see the connected data technology (4G,3G,H,E,G) - only the R standing for Roaming - in national data roaming (Virtual operators) is it annoying - but data works OK.

Introduction
If you want to put root and TWRP on your device then you have to commit to this as there is no going back from Alcatel to Vodafone firmware after this unless someone uses the scatter file for this device to perform a readback (SP Flash Tool, search: Hovatek how to make a full backup of your stock ROM using sp flash tool, however, the dev blocks should be gathered straight from the scatter file, not MTK droid tools. Will update this if this happens it is successfully conducted by someone ) This little corner of XDA will show you how to:
Flash Alcatel Firmware
Install Custom Recovery (TWRP/CTR)
Root with SuperSU
Install one custom ROM (Cyanogen MOD 13)
NOTE: I will NOT teach you how to install drivers if you need to do that go to https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-440.html (If you are running Windows 7 and up you need to disable 'Driver Signature Verification', this link will show you how to do it: https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-752.html
If you can't figure out how to that by yourself (everything is a google search away) then you shouldn't even attempt any of this.
All files will be on AndroidFileHost
If you want to download all the files for all the tutorials, then you can download the complete package which has everything required for the tutorials (except for drivers of course)

I have questions......
Since Google keeps crashing me out of apps and breaking my brightness control to send me ads and try to get me to install experimental zombies this past month, I'm keen to try this on my VFD501 Vodafone Smart Turbo 7 but.....
Does the initial step have to be Alcatel? I only ask because my SIM is 2 Degrees and I don't know if it'll work with it as it's a bit sketchy while it's still thinking it's a Vodafone.
Is the second step the ONLY rom it'll work with? How far can the hardware be pushed or more efficient?
Lastly, would I still be able to get updates for the usual app suspects? I'm getting further into Minecraft now there's online server games and I'm not finding any options for updates other than through the Play Store. I also watch quite a bit of YouTube on it (another Google aquisition). Would these be denied me by the EvilCorp™ once I free my phone from it's clutches and get rid of Google Movies, Google Mail, Google other bloatware aside from Books where I have several and would like to keep reading them?
HIe, when can we get the custom rom.looks great.
Do you still have the mixed Spanish English rom?
Could you post that please if you still have it? When i installed the cyanogenmod after flashing to alcatel after locking the screen and turning it on again it won't render properly anymore, i just see random lines. Thank you in anticipation!
guys, please can anyone make a backup (TWRP)of stock ROM with /system /data /FRP /protect /boot ? with any google account please.
i want to unlock FRP on my vfd500, i gorgot my google account on this phone so i cant go pass setup wizzard, thanks

So far you have to flash Alcatel to do any modding whatsoever, however, I may have a solution so we can get root on VFD 500 running Vodafone stock but not VFD 501 (however I'm begging my friend to borrow his to do a Miracle Box Backup so fingers crossed :silly: so I can get the 501 version of the Vodafone OS) if the solution works I will release a video on it, if you want to know if you have to flash Alcatel for custom ROMs yes you need Alcatel for the ROMs there is currently no ROMs for this device, and I don't know how to make and edit ROMs just gonna put that out their
Not working for me. Format completed OK. but then error "S_FT_ENABLE_DRAM_FAIL (0xFC0)" given when doing the download and format. Vodafone VFD501, used scatter file provided, drivers appear to be installed ok except i get "MediaTek USB port" used by the firmware loader. "MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM Port" stays even when phone is not plugged in and had yellow triangle

Solved now using this rom and instructions.
Can't post links so google - Download Vodafone Stock Rom for all models - Android MTK and look for VFD500 in the list
The driver tool uninstalled lots of drivers i think this may have helped it use the "MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM Port" which allowed it to write to the phone. Took about 10-15 mins to boot afterwards, I thought it was stuck but just a slow phone

Vodafone_Smart_Turbo_7_VFD500 - RR 7.1 ROM + TWRP 3.0.2 + SP Flash Tool + VFD500_ROM
Hi!
I get a Vodafone_Smart_Turbo_7_VFD500 phone bricked and was very dificult to find a working rom, there are a few that boot but after locking the phone screen goes mad...
I fixed a RR rom, still not perfect but is better.
One kwon issue is charging with phone off, screen stays white and on...
I Let here a link with:
SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1916_Win
SP_USB_Win7_Drivers ( Copy to Desktop and execute the shortcut)
Vodafone_Smart_Turbo_7_VFD500_MT6735M_V2.39.1_21122016_6.0 ROM to flash with SP Tool
open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20191029.zip
RR-N-v5.8.5-PIXI4_5_4G.zip (Fixed) Rom
TWRP3.0.2-0_VDF500.img Recovey (Use SP Tool with MT6735M_Android_scatter.txt from Vodafone ROM to flash it)
To use SP tool, first install the drivers then open SP tool, search for MT6735M_Android_scatter.txt file. To install full Vodafone ROM click in Download only and select Format All + Download then Download key above and plug USB, to install TWRP unselect all and only select recovery and click in location field, search for TWRP, click in download from above and plug USB ( If faild with error you need to flash all Vodafone ROM first).
After all this, use TWRP to flash RR Rom then Gapps.
