I have been using CM10 since I got my GS3, but I recently got myself stuck in Touch wiz land for a few days. I have discovered that I really like some of the features and that the battery life is phenomenal. The only problem is that I hate pretty much everything that Samsung did to the appearance of the phone. So, my question is, which of the tw based Roms for this phone keep the most of the stability/battery life improvements and features of the Samsung ROM while removing as much of the ugly theming as possible (I LOVE the stock android look, and am baffled that they felt the need to mess with such a beautiful thing.
Excellent question, I feel the same way, hoping for some enlightening answers.

Beans ROMs may be what you are looking for. It is a TW Rom but has the look of an AOSP Rom. I tried cm10 and other AOSP Roms as well. I love the look and speed of them. However, TW does have some nice features that I don't want to go without. CleanRom (tw) seems to be the most stable and quickest Rom for me. I just flash different themes and use apex launcher to get the look I prefer. Hope this helps.

Clean Rom 5.5.1 (JB) with Heinz 57 Theme is a must.
Fast, stable, as for battery life, its decent but not as good as Synergy r73 (ICS)

I think for a fair comparison, ppl who posted recommendation on this threads should ATLEAST tried most if not all roms before they can provide recommendation, if you only tried one, it's not possible to say it's best or good since you have nothing to reference against!! So before you post we would like to see at least have tried at least 3 or more before you recommend...(They are major players). Also mention what kernel you're running with the rom.
ROM:
1. Synergy
2. CleanRom
3. Executioner
4. H311s Rally Stock
5. CM10
Happy hunting and happy New Year to everyone!!!
Beans and cleanrom are great. Keep your eye on synergy thread though. Latest build should drop in a day or two.
Beans 7 is pretty darn good.....the newly ported rom "goodness" isn't bad either, they're being updated and fixed pretty regularly
I have tried all listed above and others like beans and superwhiz . I like the look of beans the best, however cleanrom 5.5.2 with lean kernel seems to be the most stable and quickest combo for me. Definitely going to try the new synergy when it drops.

I have found that the Eclipse ROM is the best. Its super smooth. Hotspot is enabled. I've flashed a lot of ROMs and run Vellamo benchmark and Eclipse always scores 300 points higher than all other ROMs. You really have to do your own research and flash them yourself. Happy Flashing!

Rom ?
I've flashed a ton of ROMs over the past couple of days and the thing is I'm missing something important to me (it's dumb I know) and it's Facebook contact sync, it just doesn't seem to work on ANY of the ROMs I've tried.
Is there a ROM out there that is basically a "pure" Android 4.2.1 + Samsung TW? That's what I think I'm looking for. I'm really sick of the neutering that VZW does to the OS other than that I like what Samsung does (mostly).
Thoughts?
clean rom le 4.5 has proven to be by FAR the best. number one on battery life. (i streamed an hour of pandora on 4g and lost 2% battery.
clean rom is also super quick. (bloons tower defense doesnt think about laggin until you get into the 90s haha if you know what im talking about)
clean rom also has the best layout in my opipion.
i have mine running with "kinda crap mods" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818800 which i highly recommend!!
next i would suggest Synergy rom. but the battery life is noticeably less.
all of this is of course an opipion. but being the flash-a-holic i am, it is just from my experiences.
unfortuneitaly i havent tried 4.2 roms because they put me in a Roaming state. where i have to flash back to stock. so i stay with TW.
Beans 8 just dropped. . Very nice!
Verizon S3, running which ever tw rom I've decided to flash today. .

I highly recommend Beans Build 8. It's very solid, offers great battery life, and plenty of customization as well.:good:
I would recommend one of two: cleanrom version 5.5.1 or superchargedwiz. Both are excellent Roms, and stable enough to use everyday.

Seriously beans. It looks like what you want plus you get the stability of tw. You can also pick what stock apps you want to keep or lose. Overall best tw Rom you could possibly ask for.

but the biggest factor that switch back to gingerbread for me is the stock kernel.
Hope we could change custom kernel in future update
appreciate for releasing ICS
I use ARHD 5.0, while satisfaction. Music player falls: (
So far so good, installed RCMix last night, ran the ARHD script to remove sense and flashed a stock apps pack. So far its running smoothly, much better than I origionally expected.
Only issues thus far were the usual wallpaper bug which I worked around by using QuickPic to set wallpaper than Gallery. Not tried music yet though, loving ICS thus far though.
Using ARHD 5.0.1 for 4,5 hours now,
So far no big issues gallery and music player seem to work properly.

Yeah, the sense ics ROM is a early test build, but has the gradient which makes it hw accelerated...But please acknowledge that this ROM is a test, so it should be laggy and slow. Also the 3.0 Linux kernel fixes the async performance issues, so no need to use system tuner; async architecture isn't meant to hve both CPUs running the same clock constantly.

would you please give me a link for this. Is this rome sense base. with or without sense ? I dont like sense UI. Tried ARHD 5.0.01 (with 195 applications packages ... ) I'm waiting Ultimate 1.0.4.0.1 here
well, I thought Sense was bloated before, but with the ICS Sense ROMs weighing in at ~400MB, they make all the previous one seem positively lightweight in comparison!

So do the HTC leaked roms have HWA? I was running Trips rom before, but have now switched over to To the Sense roms+Nosense script+StockApps.zip. I love the fact that a Camera finally works, but the Notification bar seems so out of place.
cant wait the official release, through its quite a dissapointment to see the UI look exactly like gingerbread, hope HTC will make the UI at least like true ICS experience(E.G sense 4.0 or heavy customized sense 3.5)and most important is full hardware accerlation

it doesn't work that way. ROMs are like ice cream. if you ask 1000 people to tell you which kind of ice cream you will like best, do you expect to find a comprehensive answer?
flash them and decide for yourself. personally, i'm on a miui build at the moment. but i might swap up for omega, or lite'ning tomorrow.

No, you're half-correct and half-wrong.
"Your" is a possessive pronoun which indicates something that belongs to you.
i.e. Your grammar is poor.
"You're" is indeed a contraction meaning the abbreviated "you are".
i.e. You're wrong.
Not the same. See the difference? Quite significant.
And I think "flammer" is misspelled. You mean "flamer". You can note this by the red zig-zag line under the word when you type it, before you click "Submit Reply".

Why waste time writing a paragraph about how you don't want to or don't have time to help someone. I haven't tried any of the ROMs yet but from a LOT of reading I've done, the TPC (based on the Rodgers ROM without CIQ) seems the most interesting and the developer is very responsive. He seems to know what he's doing, unlike some posers here.
Some people collect baseball cards, some build model airplanes, some people flash their cell phones all day long. The latter group probably has experience with every rom that's been put out and have some insight into the various issues with all of them. Many are helpful people, however it makes a few of them better than other humans who are not worthy of their knowledge. But they enjoy telling everyone how much they know and won't tell anyone. Personally, that's usually a sign they really don't know much. I don't get it.

Hi yall. Ok so I have flashed every rom on here including the T-mobile ones and I found something a little strange. Not a single rom is as smooth as the stock Rogers rom. None. I didnt realize it until I grabbed my girlfriends Skyrocket (stock) and it pissed me off. Dont get me wrong, the roms are all super smooth just there is something smoother about the stock rom. Its in the transitions between apps etc. Even Bonestocketeer is not as smooth. My only guess is it is the difference between odexed and deodexed. Am I crazy? Im currently running stock rooted (since this morning) and it is definitely smoother. Boring as hell but smooth. Any thoughts? I know I am being SUPER PICKY (even the worst roms on this beast are smooth) but I see it

I concur. You aren't crazy. I rom hopped for the first two weeks of having the phone, and while Bonestocketeer was my favorite for when I used a custom Rom, I found that debloated stock with Da_G's kernel worked the best.

its a lot like stock in some ways but it is merge of the galaxy s3 and the note 2 4.1.1 and 4.1.2. it has a lot of the note 2 features like the multi window and the ink on the lock screen. also it has the floating keyboard in multi window mode. you should give it a try it has the choice of the stock kernal or the custom kernal when you install it. its pretty awesome...its my daily driver...

Shout out to the plasma ROM it has made my s3 sic. So thanks to Phil and all the people who helped make this ROM. Once I turned off ripple effect I've had 0 problems. The sound mods are out of the park. I can't post on his thread yet so I'm posting it here, Plus hopefully people looking for a great rom can read this.

I had the problem of ripple effect needing to be turned off, I somehow fixed it though, do you know why it's not working? I may be able to get it working for you guys, it's worth a try anyway,
Unlike previous phones, I haven't done much with custom ROMs on the S3, mostly because after de-bloating, I don't mind the stock install overmuch.
That pretty much changed for me when andybones released BoneStock. So far, I'm loving it! Enough to try to get my post count up for the first time in the 2+ years that I've been reading and lurking around here just so I can post in the Dev thread for it...

Thank you so much! This really means a lot. This is exactly what I was striving for when I released the ROM, something that is absolutely stock, but with the options in Aroma of just what is wanted, along with very light theming nothing overtop, and that's also how I wanted to go about the MODs as well. I did not want to over load it with stuff people don't' use or want so Aroma proved to be the perfect solution, although my scripting was zero at first and quite challenging but much like anything with Android for me, spend some time with it and fell in love.
Oh and please feel free to post in any of my threads to get your post count up, just post like , "good job" or something.
I would have, but you have to have 10 posts minimum to post anything in the dev threads. lol
I just flashed LiquidSmooth to try it out coming from ParanoidAndroid and now they just updated to 2.4

I've tried and I go back to Omega v9. Are there any other 4.3 type of roms anyone can recommend?

its stock android, its not supposed to have all the fancy mods of custom roms or manufacturer bloat
However its fully functional and has the best speed and battery life of any single rom i've tried, i'll take that over being able to centre my status bar clock any day lol
Thats pure aosp for you

I've been using this one : 4.3 deodex
Its deodexed and zipaligned so it feels just slighty faster then the actual stock 4.3 not to mention he's thrown a few tweaks in for centre clock and 4 way reboot. if you flash the 2 extra files.

Kangabean son! To be honest there are a lot of tw features I miss but that rom is so dam snappy. Zero lag. Once Paul O'Brien makes that dual boot app for the s4 I might consider tw again.

It is a bit bland, but I've gotten used to it. As much fun as it'd be to have all the bells and whistles of Cyanogenmod, PA, AOKP, and others, having a rock solid phone is just priceless. Everything works, and there are very rarely any random inexplicable issues. I use my Nexus 7 2013 for goofing around, so I still have something to be crackflashy with when I get in the mood.

I ran them on other phones, not here yet. But, once flashed they get boring quickly imho. I like the many features TW offers. Also read TiBu not working on 4.3. I'm not sure I can do without that. From a psychological standpoint anyway--
I still will try one at some point after they are a little more polished. Can't resist new roms--
Still on Wicked and waiting to see what evil does with that thread. There is a v6 in works. But, not sure it will appear on XDA. Hope so. I follow him on Twitter--
Usually there's an app comparable to whatever feature you're missing from the carrier version of Android or a mod if your phone is rooted.
Imo it's better that way to pick and choose what you want instead of a big ol block of bloat that you prob. only use 25% of and choke the CPU, memory and battery of your phone.

In my experience odex roms run faster than deodex.

I've never really noticed a difference. I have a feeling it's one of those things that really doesn't make a huge difference on high-end phones.
I've tried to download omega about 10 times and it's times out or just won't install. I've tried a GE3 rom and agree it's to basic for me. The camera and the amount of debloated TW roms keep me quite happy for now. Customizing is the whole point of android and open source.

I'm not impressed with GE edition ,it looks a lot like cyanogenmod 10.1/10.2
I've not been a fan of cyanogenmod since cyanogenmod 7 when I had my LG thrill 4g .sucks to bash cause I know cyanogenmod runs good, just plain.

If everything works is your goal, then 4.2.2 is the best time for you.

I found that the battery life on these GE ROMs aren't that great. That's why I came back to TW, and for the Apps2SD support, as well as TW camera.
I was using the 4.2.2 GE I customized myself, and although it worked really good, I have an issue in at my house where I live on the fringe of LTE coverage and needed to switch it to HSPA only when home. On TW based ROMs you can just use the *#*#4636#*#* and go into Device Information and switch it to "WCDMA Preferred", which works great. Unfortunately that code doesn't work on the GE ROMs. If someone knows how to do get into that menu with a code that works on a GE ROM I would love to know.
So I went back to a MF3 ROM that I customized and debloated myself. It runs really good, but I would much rather be using a GE ROM.
What I like about the GE ROMs is that it is the way Google intended it to be, but I will agree that it can be a bit bland. But being that Android is highly customizable, you can change it to whatever you wish.
If anyone wants to check out my Debloat list for MF3, here is the thread I made.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398845
I was trying to get rid of the majority of the Samsung crap and make it as close to GE as I could and still maintain the TW backbone.
I find Touchwiz to be slow. No matter what ROM I try or how tweaked the tom may be, its always slow. Every time I switch from a GE ROM to w TWrROM, I always find myself switching back to the GE ROM after a few days. You just can't beat the speed!

If you use the updated SuperSu 1.51 zip (I believe 1.51 is the latest) then TiBu works. Used it on 4.3 slim bean yesterday
