[Q] People App - Filtering Farmville? - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

When I am on Facebook using my web browser, I no longer receive notifications from Farmville (and other time waster Facebook games) that my friends have bought a new donkey, or whatever.
However, the People app on my Windows Phone 8 insists on passing those messages on to me.
I am to the point where I am going to have to unfriend a couple of folks because I waste tons of time having to scroll through the stupid Facebook game notifications.
Is there anyway I can make it so that I don't see the stupid Facebook game messages?
Thanks!

OK - I figured it out, I think...
I am not sure why I wasn't seeing the game notifications when I used my Browser to access Facebook. I was able to stop the game notifications coming to my phone:
Log into Facebook in your Browser
Click on the little gear on the upper right side of the screen and select "Privacy Settings"
On the left side menu, click on "Blocking"
This page lets you block app invites from specific Facebook Friends or notifications from specific Facebook Apps
After setting this up, I am no longer receiving Farmville notifications from my friends.]

[Q] Facebook Push Notifications

The Facebook Push Notifications doesn't work for me. Chat is working fine, but not comments, Friend requests and so on!.
Does it work for anyone here with Facebook 1.5.1? If Yes what are your settings?
Android 2.2.1 DHD Leedroid 1.5.1a Facebook 1.5.1
it does not work for me either ...
I haven't had it working for me either..I will get notification bar updates but no push notifications.
damn it ... I think they removed this function.. but why? What is with a downgrade.
Should be 1.5.0
Yep, it's been quiet for a while here too.
It has been quiet my end as well for some time.
I remember we used to get them
Does anyone have the Facebook 1.5.0 version, I would try this out!
I tried it with fb 1.50, too.
Doesnt working either!
My understanding of Facebook push notifications is that they SUCK!!! Sorry about that. When normal people think of push notifications we think of notifications of things we actually want to be notified of like wall posts, comments, likes, etc. Unfortunately for us when Facebook thinks push notifications they think about pushing us notifications for things we don't care about like event invites and inbox messages.
I don't have much in faith in facebook in that we will ever get push support for all notifications :-( It seems to me that facebook's strategy for android will be to integrate features into the phone instead of delivering a stealer app people. This means working with OEMs as they have been as of late. I don't think we will ever get a useful app from facebook.
Currently I think Tweetdeck provides you with the most comprehensive facebook notification support and when you combine that with the actually facebook app all notifications are covered I believe. The only downside is that Tweetdeck is poll driven.
I used to get it for comments, wall post, inbox bla bla..
now didnt get it anymore.. oh well, thats fine... it's not like my world will end without push noti anw
I think 1.5.1 broke or disabled the push notifications feature.
flow
Have you guys tried facebook flow? I just installed it testerday. I has the option of utilizing gmail push notification to send/recieve facebook notifications.
Ive liked it more and more since I have installed it, and the push works great
Yeah man. Sad that Facebook not going to deliver an application for android users. Sigh..

I believe both beejive and trillian use push notifications.
trillian is half the price of beejive and if you use trillian's desktop or web app you can have your im conversations on your phone synced to those products.
beejive on the other hand saves your conversations to your sdcard and also has the ability to email the transcripts to what ever account you want.
trillian lets you set a custom ringtone for notifications where as beejive only lets you pick from either the yahoo, msn, or aol im sound. I think this is unfortunate though beejive lets you set a different sound when the app is active and when it is idel which is cool
beejive will notify you in the status bar when you receive an im as well as blink the led, though I think the status bar notification is timed (by that I mean the notification disappears from the status bar after some set time. This is what I have noticed idk anything official)
I believe trillian also notifies you in the status bar. trillian also allows you to suspend the app. this logs you out of the app on the phone but keeps you logged into all your im services on trillian's servers. I think this is prob similar to beejive's idel stat in that it is designed to use less battery when not actively using the app. If the app is suspended you will receive an email notification that you have received an im.
As far as support goes, trillian has a forum that you can post any questions in. The only support for beejive that I know of are their email addresses listed on their website and the market-place and I haven't had much luck when emailing them questions.
beejive also lets you set your status: available, away, busy, and invisible and also have custom status messages for each service. You can also delete, appear offline, and block contacts though I haven't had success with those features.
I think that they should re-add those features back.
For a second there, I thought I was the only one that noticed that Facebook push notifications actually existed for a short while and then died. I've done multiple phone wipes and rebuilds to try to correct the problem. Now it's clear that it's a Facebook thing and not my phone.
I setup a gmail account just for facebook....I get instant notifications....I gave up on face book notification. And only reason i setup another gmail...so i can have a diffrent tone and nothing but FB mesages. THe moment you get your message its sent to your gmail you setup.
I think the lack of notifications is on purpose, and it makes sense. Here is why, an average person has well over 100 friends on FB, if you leave a comment on any post you recieve a notification on facebook each time someone responds, if you "like" a post, the same thing happens, now figure that you commented on 20 or more different posts and made a few yourself, Do you people have any idea how incredibly annoying it would be to get a notification everytime someone "likes" or comments on those same posts or links anytime after? It makes perfect sense why FB only pushes Friend Requests, PM's and Events. I won't even get into the amount of server bandwith it would be using. It's common sense.
I suppose it would be nice for them to offer an option in the settings for the people so incredibly obsessed with every little thing that happens on facebook but I myself would go insane if my phone vibrated or beeped everytime someone responded to a wall post.
Uh....Facebook allows push notifications for everything. Just not push notifications from app. Everything you mentioned is pushed to my gmail account or sms. Yes does get annoying if 50 people reply to a post but FB does push notifications.

[Q] Joined facebook Groups not showing up on Official Android App!!!!

Why is it that none of the groups (that I have joined) show up on ‘groups’ section of my official facebook app. The only group that does shows up on the app is ‘TeamWhiskey’!! Others groups that I have joined never show up. Is this normal? Whats your experience has been regarding this.
I downloaded 'flow for facebook' that lets you use groups and pages but don’t really like the interface and the app is also kinda slow. Would rather have the official app get these featuers.
This is driving me nuts too. One group that I joined just recently does show up in my groups on the Android app but none of the others do, including one I'm the admin of. Facebook is so poo I sometimes am staggered it is so popular.
facebook app sucks big time. try flow. its a third party app for fb. It shows all the groups and pages ur member of. I would switch to the official app when it starts to show the LIKE pages and all groups ur member of
Wow, Flow is pretty good. It's even better than the FB desktop app (ok that's not hard) as this groups issue also surfaces there. For a bunch of nerds they sure can't program very well. MySpace is so much better, it's still a mystery to me how FB eclipsed it.

Flow is way better than the official facebook app. I love it.
Btw what's the share after button when u post something?

Grr! Facebook is just pants. Flow shows all the groups I belong to, minus the pictures in 50% of the cases but doesn't show any events from those groups. The official app shows no groups but shows all the events, with pictures. Go figure.
I can't seem to get notifications (friends writing on my wall, people commenting on my posts, photos etc) when I open the flow app. I want to be able to see this notifications when I open flow....anyone whats the setting for that?
Flow is my staple..real time notifications too...what a concept! lol
facebook is deleting/archiving all old groups....they will either be upgraded or deleted. so from now all groups will show up on the official app

[Q] Just got Android, have Questions

Hi All,
I just got a Galaxy S2 and I have some questions on some basic features I had on the iPhone.
1) Are there app specific notification indicators? i.e. in a similar style as iPhone with a number beside the app, i see the default email app had it, but i rather use the Gmail app to get push notification, same for facebook.
2) How do I get notifications to show up on screen? I don't want to check my phone every few mins to know I received something. for example, email, sms, facebook
3) Anyway to multitask with video playing? I watch video podcasts, i rather just have it on in the background while i surf, or just turn the screen off completely and still have it. (tried Act1 video player, but it crashes on my phone)
these are just the 3 main things I'm missing, other than that really like the phone.
Thanks

notifications

i want to start by saying i love my htc titan and the wp7 os. just one thing keeps bothering me....its the damn twitter and facebook notifications. i can have the titan side by side with my iphone 4 and my iphone gets notifications way before the titan does. not only does the me hub not make a sound so i have to check it all the time but it get them way later. the facebook app just sucks in general, and it doesnt show half of my notifications. the mehdoh twitter app is great except it doesnt get notifications in a timely manner neither. so before i switch back what does everyone use(app wise) and how do yall deal with the notifications.
Well it depends really. I use the built in "Me" hub for most of my stuff but since I have 3 twitter accounts for various business I use Seesmic.
Personally I would get really annoyed if my phone was dinging constantly from the flood of tweets. It is bad enough that I have notifications pop up on my desktop. I sggest letting microsoft know on their uservoice site that you want faster notifications on certain apps. They will listen.
Mehdoh runs as a background task so polls when the OS schedules it to (which MS claims is every 30 minutes, but in reality is more every 30-60 minutes... often closer to the latter).
If you want instant (or as close as) notifications then you need a twitter client that has push notifications. Rowi has them... Birdsong allegedly has them but a lot of people say its currently broken.
I have apps that send notifications but don't have a live tile which is extremely annoying because I end up missing all these notifications.
A notification center and a backup solution are desperately needed on this OS.

Facebook / Messages (SMS) (WP7.5 8107 Omnia W)

Hi all!
I just moved from Android (HD2 MIUI) to WP7.5 (Omnia W i8350 fw: 8107 locked) and I noticed a couple of things:
- SMS and Facebook chat are merged, without any timeline order. I'll try to explain (I'm Italian, I'm sorry if I'll spell anything wrong):
SMS sent from my gf at 11.00 AM, received at 11.00:03 AM on my device
Facebook Chat message sent from my girlfriend at 10.30 AM, wifi/data enabled on my device at 11.30 AM, Facebook Chat message received at 11.30 AM.
In my message hub the last interaction with my gf that I'll see will be her FB Chat Message (and my reply will pass through FB by default, instead of SMS).
Isn't that strange?
- There's, in the marketplace, an official FB App, that has at least half an hour delay between any notify and doesn't notify any private message to me.
Is the any alternative that could work better?
Trust me, moving from an HD2 that has been able to run WM6.5, WP7.5, Android easily to a locked WP7 device is quite confusing, but I'll try hard to make it work at his best.

Windows Phone will always use the message service that was last used. Since you only enabled data conenction at 11:30 am this was the last message your phone received and it assumes you want to use this protocol/service. You can manually change the protocol/service using the double arrow icon in the lower right.
EDIT: The built in facebook messenger works fine for me. There are only a few (5-10) seconds delay until I receive my facebook messages, no need for me to ever use the facebook app...

Yup, I could understand "why" the system uses the last service used as long as I'm or I'm not using data/wifi, but it's chronologically wrong.
I'm expecting to see the FB message before the last SMS, just because it has been sent before by the other user. (It's just a matter of timeline) If WP7 is able to merge every conversation between sms/facebook it would be fine to get each message in the right time order, isn't it? What if I don't turn on data/wifi for a week, I'd get FB messages one week old as "last" interaction with the other person, even if I wrote him/her by SMS just a minute before?
Of course I'm not expandind the issue to the fact that I've already read on FB that message, and it could be in any way notified as "already seen" on my phone. Leaving SMS / Facebook services in different apps, just like Whatsapp, Hotmail, Gmail, etc. is certainly less "integrated, nice, next gen, artistic, or what else", but more efficient in their real use: to comunicate.
P.S. The delay is really lower on the built in messenger, the app seems to have some different default settings.

WP7 doesn't know when it was sent, though. It only knows when it was delivered to the phone.

I disagree with that, the unified messaging hub is great because I can instantly see all communication with that user independant from the service used. If you still prefer to have non unified messages, you can do that. To quote the famous apple qoute: "there's an app for that!".
Apps like IM+ (search for "implus" on the market), Nimbuzz allow you to connect to Facebook and Windows Live Messenger (among others).
Miyowa allows you to connect to Windos Live Messenger and for Facebook only I found an app called "Fim Chat"
Knock yourself out

This would not be feasible or practical in my oppinion. For one, this would require Facebook to somehow notify the client (phone) that a message has been read and to force the client to delete it. This is not how IM clients work. I think it would be a bad move if a service could "recall" or "delete" already delivered messages. If you're going to read your FB messages using a different client anyways, why stay signed in using the built in client?
