[Q] Just got Android, have Questions - General Questions and Answers

Hi All,
I just got a Galaxy S2 and I have some questions on some basic features I had on the iPhone.
1) Are there app specific notification indicators? i.e. in a similar style as iPhone with a number beside the app, i see the default email app had it, but i rather use the Gmail app to get push notification, same for facebook.
2) How do I get notifications to show up on screen? I don't want to check my phone every few mins to know I received something. for example, email, sms, facebook
3) Anyway to multitask with video playing? I watch video podcasts, i rather just have it on in the background while i surf, or just turn the screen off completely and still have it. (tried Act1 video player, but it crashes on my phone)
these are just the 3 main things I'm missing, other than that really like the phone.
Thanks

[Q] People App - Filtering Farmville?

When I am on Facebook using my web browser, I no longer receive notifications from Farmville (and other time waster Facebook games) that my friends have bought a new donkey, or whatever.
However, the People app on my Windows Phone 8 insists on passing those messages on to me.
I am to the point where I am going to have to unfriend a couple of folks because I waste tons of time having to scroll through the stupid Facebook game notifications.
Is there anyway I can make it so that I don't see the stupid Facebook game messages?
Thanks!
OK - I figured it out, I think...
I am not sure why I wasn't seeing the game notifications when I used my Browser to access Facebook. I was able to stop the game notifications coming to my phone:
Log into Facebook in your Browser
Click on the little gear on the upper right side of the screen and select "Privacy Settings"
On the left side menu, click on "Blocking"
This page lets you block app invites from specific Facebook Friends or notifications from specific Facebook Apps
After setting this up, I am no longer receiving Farmville notifications from my friends.]

[Q] How to have app badges, LED light control and Indepth SMS search etc !

He guys,
I have recently shifted to Android on Nexus 5. I am finding most of the experience pretty good by far except for few hiccups.
1. I am used to reminder badges on iOS. It actually works pretty great. Missing that in Android so far. Specially with the Phone, SMS(Chomp SMS), WhatsApp and Gmail. I have figured out a way with goggling but I am still not satisfied. I am using Notifyer but that works with widgets. Meaning I can't use the same with folders on the home screen. Now all the social Apps like FB,Twitter, Instagram etc needs to be on my desktop eating away space. How to manage that.
2. I am so used to the notifications on the home screen like iOS. Is there something which does the same for Android.
3. How to have LED light control for Individual Apps at one place. As of now it feels broken. Some Apps have LED control like whatsapp but you need to go deep in the app. Now a centralised place for the same would have been awesome. I don't know why devs at google missed this.
4. InDepth SMS search. Firstly they broke SMS with stupid hangouts and SMS integrations. Then google being google should have the most awesomest search feature. Instead SMS search is completely a disaster. You have touch time searching for name of the person who smsed forget the searching the content itself. Apple with iOS had mastered that. I get tons of work related SMS from new people everyday and to keep searching for the content without knowing the Phone number is a PITA. Any SMS app which has in-depth SMS search.
I will keep posting further queries if I have any.
Thanks In Advance.

[APP] SW2 Notifier.Send all of your phone notifications to the watch

Hi!
In the last month we developed an app to send all the notifications that your phone receives to the smartwatch2.
It uses NotificationListener Service instead of Accesibility, so it only works on Android 4.3
Personally, Accesibility permissions are very compromising for an app that only send notifications to the watch, and that's why we started developing an app using the new NotificationListener Service.
The app will grab all the text of the notification (not only the tickerText) and will send it to your phone. You can also mute some applications (i.e. PowerToggles post notifications every few seconds) and set a period of time when no notifications will be sent to your phone (ie. During the night)
The link to the app is:
Mod edit: Removed paid app link
We also have a Free version of the app. In this version you won't get all the text in the notification in your phone, you'll only get tickerText and you cannot set periods of "Do not disturb"
Hope you find it useful.
Hi!
I tried many different apps that bring notifications to the sony smartwatch. I'm currently using a HTC ONE with Sense 5.5/Kitkat 4.4.2 and most of the notification-apps have at least one of the following problems:
-) no smilies in whatsapp notifications
-) the sense mail app groups notifications as soon as there is more than one at a time, so if I get one email and 5min later another one, the notification on the phone and on the watch as well just shows me something like:
sender1
subject1
sender2
subject2
but I can not access the content of the emails... the content is only available as long as there just one new email... I don't know if the notification app can do anything about that, but it's something that bothers me
-) some apps don't allow me to exclude certain services like the htc backup service from notifying me on the watch because there is no dedicated app for that
-) some apps don't allow me to scroll through longer notifications
what about your app?
greetings

AFAIK, SW2 doesn't have Emoji in its charset, so any notification app won't show that emoji characters. We are working in a workaround transforming some emoji in an alternative which can be shown by the watch

Our app will send to the watch all the text contained in the notifications, instead of sending only the abbreviated text which is what some other apps do.
This was one of the motivation behind our app. We wanted to read the whole email in our watch so we developed SW2 Notifier
I cannot tell you about HTC sense mail app, but I can read full mail text in Gmail, Google's mail app and CloudMagic (which are the clients I use). I think that the situation will be the same in HTC sense clients, but I cannot tell you 100% how that will work.

You can select which application notifies you in the watch and which not. You can leave htc backup service out, and it won't send any notification to your watch. So that's a yes, you can filter out any app you want.

If I understood you well, yes you can scroll it long way down in the text of the notification. I.e, If you receive, let's say 10, messages in Hangouts, you can read them all.

I just tried out your app and here's my feedback:
-) it would be great to have an option to define if the notifier should by default enable notifications for a new app-notification or not (as it is now you have to disable each app you don't want to get notifications from and you have to wait until you receive a notification from that app, so for a while you will have to open the settings over and over again to remove an app from the whitelist)
-) unfortunately I have the same problem as with all the other notification apps when I receive two or more notifications about new emails, attached you see two screenshots that show what I mean... as you can see the watch just shows me that I got two emails from "Kamil" and both have the subject "Test2" (if you scroll down on the watch you see just another line telling me that Kamil sent an email with the subject "Test2"), but I can not see the content of the emails (the content is only visible when I have just one email-notification)... this happens with the HTC-mail-client and with the default android-client as well... maybe the notifications-grouping is a sense feature?

Thanks for trying the app and thanks for the feedback!!
We take note about that, we'll add that option to settings, in order to deactivate notifications by default.
About the other comment, did you try Free or Paid version?, In Free version we don't send all text of the notification to the watch only what Android calls "ticker text" which is the text you can read in the notification bar when you receive a notification.
In the PRO version, we send all the text which is contained in the notification (if you swipe down in the notification it will expand and will show extra text, and all that text is what we send to the watch).
I use Google's default mail client (have a nexus) and even though in the notification bar i cannot read whole text, in the watch I can read all the email.
I tried the paid version, it looks like as soon as there is more than one email notification the notification doesn't contain the email text anymore but just the sender and subject of each email

Hi,
I bought the PRO app yesterday, and from a quick test I am very satisfied with it. My biggest problem with others was that they couldn't show extended notifications of Hangouts, and this one does it nicely.
So, great job!

Yup, I can avoid installing 2 or 3 apps by using this one. I am liking it!

Congrats on the development and thanks for contributing to the SW2 community.
I am experimenting with the Pro version. Interesting the way you need to turn off notifications only after your phone/watch have a notification from that app or service (as opposed to WatchIt where you can do so when you first install WatchIt). I am running 4.3 on my phone, so I reckon I am the right target market.
Does seem to show more content on some notifications, but like others have also reported, if your phone gets a number of emails and notifications at the same time, SW2 Notifier only lists them out and provides the same amount of content in the list as WatchIt. Same is true with Google+.
Its a small $ investment and hopefully encourages people to develop for the platform, and its a nice looking extension. Don't know if it is enough of a difference to get someone who already has WatchIt to switch to SW2 Notifier. Since WatchIt is free I believe, and also works well with 4.3 phones (benefiting from same notification access), I think the SW2 Developers need to do something more to replace WatchIt.
btw, I am still trying to find the perfect notification extension. I use a few (WatchIt, Watchify, SW2 Notifier) to receive email, Gmail, and Google+, and the stock extensions to get Twitter, Facebook, Messaging, Slideshow, RSS, Missed Call, Music Player, Calendar Reminder. Seems the stock extensions that are dedicated to a type of notification still seem to work a bit better than the WatchIts and other broder notification extensions. Fortunately the SW2does not limit the number of extensions (apps) like Pebble does.
A suggestion would be good to select what notifications you want upfront as opposed to case by case as they come in.
Trying the free version. It's splendid so far. One "issue" I have is that I use Hangout and when a person sends me one message, its fine but if they send another afterwards and I didn't check the first, it comes up as 2 messages.
It would be nice if either my phone or watch could read the messages seperately but it doesn't which is a bummer. Other than that, its great!
ok, I've bought pro version, but it is as good as annoying. After 15 minutes of working I can have over 30 messages on my watch. Offcourse I've switched off non neccesary notifications, but for example for deezer I've got triple multipled notifications. Also really annoying are 'ghost notifications'. On my phone i;ve got 0 notifications, but this app shows me some empty notifications without any message. How can I rid of that?
Thanks all for using the app. It started as a personal need for us but it turns out as a useful app for everyone. We are carefuly reading the comments in order to improve the app in future versions.
There are some interesting things we'd like to comment.

In Free version, the text sent to the watch is shorter than the paid version, sorry. In the paid version you should read the whole hangouts notification including messages.

Thanks for the feedback, we've been noticing something similar. Android notification system is a little bit messy. Sometimes, the notification service notifies the app saying, "hey there is a new notification posted", but it is not. Filtering these notifications out without affecting some others is not so easy as it should be. We are working on that in order to provide a better experience.
Hi there, I bought youre PRO version, nice app, IMO only missing one feature, a feature that lets you set a delay between notifications of the same app, eg when a app fires multiple alerts, it would be nice to get only one buzz on your wrist
I agree to some previous post, have an option to have the new notification services disabled by default
So I've been using this app now for about five days. I've pretty much got most of the notification apps for the SW2 all except Watchit were unreliable. I'm glad to report that this app hasn't missed a beat. I've replaced Watchit with this one. I'm really looking forward to the updates! Finally a decent competitor to Watchit!
Hi, i send an email for you, i perchasede your great app, but this app has a problem and not good for persian and arabic language users, because this app cant show notification with persian/arabic language and show persian text like???? , another app like augmented smart watch pro show correctly persian text on smart watch 2, please add this feature in next version

i have 4.4.2 and it works ok. Sometimes maybe a little bit too many notifications
Does this app currently support or plan to support in the future, features similar to those shown on Android Wear smartwatches. For example being able to select archive on gmail notifications.

Phone apps compatible with Gear S2

Hey all. I found on another forum a very good idea from the user tstreete - the list of apps for Your phone, that are compatible with the smartwatch.
What exactly does it mean? That You can see notifications, respond, see some info etc. So basically everything that would interact with our Gear S2 watch.
If You know about more apps please do share with us
I've divided everything into 6 sections:
Message & Mail
Gmail (notifications, read, reply, show on phone, delete)
GO SMS (Read and Reply)
Inbox (can't reply on the S2)
Messages (read and respond)
Nine - Exchange email app
Textra (can respond on the S2!)
Type Mail (reply, show on phone, etc)
QKSMS (reply, show on phone, etc.)

Komoot (sport navigation app; app for watch needs android app on phone)
Roadify Transit
Yelp
Others

CNN (Breaking News updates)
ESPN (Requested notifications of the phone app side work very well)

Google Now (notifications of top card; clicking on an address in an event loads google maps on phone)

List updated. Thanks @straylight23, @Firetribe, @rgburress, @CASz, @Willyman and @mjsheldon4, @xraytedjim, @Joel821, @kta for Your input
Thank you for your time to make this list. I tried to get Hangout to work, but no luck. I downloaded as you said the android wear app, enter the app, pair the phone with an emulator, give the app permissions on the notifications settings, but instead I got no notifications at all from hangout. All the other notifications worked normally. When I unistalled the android wear app, hangout notifications were back Also about Facebook messenger I can only press like and read the message, not able to respond to messages. Any help how can I get these 2 to work?

I have Note 4 (N910-f) running 5.1.1 official rom. I get messenger working by installing it again, now I have the option to respond pressing the 3 little dots on the side. No luck with hangout though. Whenever I install android wear, no notifications. Any ideas?
Moto g 2nd generation
I used Moto G 1st gen. I know it is not compatbile with Gear S2.
How about Moto G 2nd gen, does it work with S2?
I would like to buy 2nd G or maybe 3rd gen.
Dear All,
just curious.. is App like Whatsapp, BBM, wundershare not compactible? at least the notifications can be shown on the watch?

Dunno about wundershare or BBS, but WhatsApp work just fine. I receive notifications and van anwser them.
WhatsApp works (notification, chat history, answer)
BubbleUPnP works for Audio (pause and skip, no volume when playing on other device than local renderer)
Media Monkey works
Most media player should in fact work with the built-in media control, as there seem to be global shortcuts for that...
I have noticed that I am able to get notifications and reply via the watch for Skype messenger as well. I thought this was very cool as I use Skype messenger a bit.
I get notifications from BBM and can reply.

I notice group chats are now supported in WhatsApp. That's definitely new. Don't know if it's because of the watch update or a WhatsApp update.
QKSMS works great for SMS. Read & Respond w/input or custom templates. Mark as read/ open on phone
Forgot to mention before, but Telegram works similar to the other messaging apps. Read, reply works fine. No option for creating a new message as its not an app on the watch.
Texting app: GOSMS
Can: Read and Reply
GoneMad Music player is also compatible...
Tunein radio also works fine

How about Endomondo ?
The social office app Bitrix24 also works with the S2. You get notifications of things regarding your profile and you are able to read and anwser messages and comments.
Hi, loving the s2 sad about lack of apps but very very hopeful. Podcast manager? I use Pocket Casts....would love to have that or another type of podcast controler on the watch. Can anyone help?
offerup App - notifcations only but would love to see replies to work

Gear sport messaging issues

been doing some digging on this and I think the answer is eventually going to be no for all but figured I'd run it by and see if anybody has any good workarounds.
Major messaging issues with this watch are:
1. Can't see whole text thread from single sender or group chat. Only most recent messages shows in notifications section left of the watchface. I've seen videos of users accessing the whole thread by swiping up on notification or by going to the messages app on the app wheel. Neither work for me. Swipe up does nothing and I have no dedicated messaging app to select. I've looked to dl a Samsung gear messaging app from Galaxy store but can't find one.
2. Picture messages don't come through on text. It just says "picture". Again have seen video of users of this watch see the physical picture appear on the watch in a text notification and in-line when scrolling through a text chain. Again can't seem to do this at all.
3. A distant third is doodle. Can't send them. Every time I try I get an error message on the watch that reads "can't send multimedia messages from gear to this type of phone." I've tried sending them to iPhones, Android, even Samsung phones, get the same message every time.
Tried vetting these issues with Samsung tech support over the phone, thoroughly worthless. Hoping to find someone with a brain here.
For reference, on big red pixel 2 xl, Google messaging app.
Thanks in advance!
