[GUIDE]WindowsAndroid For our Desktop/Laptop or Windows - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

Here's how to run Android apps on your Windows/Mac desktop/laptop computer..
Android is the most prolific and fastest growing platform on the market right now, and it’s been so for the last couple of years. With that growth came more than 700,000 applications on Google Play, a figure that is on par with what Apple has in its App Store.
With such a wealth of apps, you might be secretly wishing to have some of them available not just on your phone or tablet, but also on your Windows or Mac notebook/desktop computer. And now there is an easy way to do just that with an called BlueStacks.
The application is still in beta, but it does pretty well in its core functionality - allowing you to run Google Play and install apps from it on your computer.
There is both a Windows and Mac version of Bluestacks, and everything should be working just fine and easily. Give it a shot - it’s right below.

WindowsAndroid is a new PC program allowing you to run Android natively on your Windows 8, 7 or Vista PC. Some of you may remember BlueStacks - a program with a similar purpose, but not quite the same. While BlueStacks lets you run Android apps on your Windows PC, WindowsAndroid by Socketeq makes it possible to run Android itself, along with any apps you may want.
Right now, the WindowsAndroid program is not quite ready, and it seems it requires some geeky moves in order to get it working, but the developer promises that everything will be easily accessible for regular consumers once it's ready.
WindowsAndroid executes Android 4.0 using the Windows kernel, instead of the Linux one, which allows the mobile OS to perform smoothly since no emulation action is going on. The program should make it possible for every Android enthusiast to seamlessly run their favorite apps on their PC.
If you wish to give WindowsAndroid a try, you can download the program from the developer's website here
Note: If the link to the developer's website doesn't work for you, it's probably because of the "heavy load". It should be back up soon.

WindowsAndroid runs Android without emulation on Windows 8
WindowsAndroid runs Android without emulation on Windows 8
This week the folks at Socketeq have been pushing for a widespread testing of their software setup known as WindowsAndroid, running Android natively inside Windows OS. This system takes the Android mobile operating system and runs it on the Windows kernel – instead of Linux, that is, and therefor making everything move ultra-swift as it takes away the emulation layer that would otherwise be present. Sound like a fun project to you? Have at it right this minute!
This setup is currently working with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and requires a little more than base knowledge of how to work with Android outside of its standard smartphone housing. That means if you’ve never hacked your smartphone or tablet before, this might not be ready for prime-time for you at the moment. Once you’re in-the-know, on the other hand, you’ll be running apps and games of all kinds – including 3D games, so Socketeq promises – like a wild animal!
What’s extra fun about this whole situation is that it’s possible, depending on the setup you’ve got on your Windows machine, that you’ll be able to work with full touch controls as well as mouse and keyboard. Google added native support for both keyboards and mice (USB, Bluetooth, or otherwise) so you’ll almost certainly be working with those two ancient devices, but the future is wide open! It’s important to note here also that Android will still need your help running apps as this build comes with basically none – you’ll want to download Gapps (from one of the many sources we’re sure you’ve got a hold on right this minute) and flash them on your own once you’ve got WindowsAndroid running.
NOTE: WindowsAndroid currently runs on Windows 8 as well as Windows 7 and Windows Vista – good luck!
You can download WindowsAndroid from the Socketeq website by entering your email and basic info which they promise they’ll do no evil with therein. Be sure, again, to know what you’re doing before you download or start up any apps such as those spoken about above, and understand that SlashGear claims no responsibility for you destroying your systems for the fun of it. That said, have lots of fun!
Also be sure to check out BlueStacks, a system made to push Android apps to Windows and Mac computers that’s been in business for over a year – great stuff! Now the war will begin, users deciding whether they’d rather run natively or in an emulated environment. Which one will you choose?

[APP] Droid2Desk - now with alpha release(s)

So I've been working on a small project in my spare time with my Nexus One (although is should work with any Android 2.0+ device). Basically it allows you to connect to your phone via WiFi and do a few different things like view/send SMS, view notifications, remotely control the camera and/or transfer files to and from the device. It's a work in progress, I just figured I'd post some screenshots here to see what kind of interest is out there.
An example of a few notifications:

Showing some extra details about the device we are connected to:
SMS view (show's all the current SMS conversations on the device)
and of course, an individual conversation view that allows you to carry on an SMS conversation
Remote camera control. Currently it does stills, but I'm going to work in some video as well. Not sure how much demand there is to turn an Android phone into a WiFi spy camera
That's it for now. Should I keep developing this beast or what?
edit:
It also runs on any platform that supports Java. Here it is on a CentOS linux box
Edit - alpha release post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8148550&postcount=170
Ok, first off let me stress this fact:
THIS IS ALPHA SOFTWARE!
This is only being released here to get it running on a few different devices and see if it complete implodes or not. There are lots of bugs and lots of things that aren't close to being finished. I just don't want to put in tonnes of development time only to find out it only works on my Nexus One. If you're an Android/computer noob, this probably isn't for you. Also note, a WiFi connection is required for this to work.
There are two pieces to the application
Android Application (Droid2Desk.apk)
This is to be installed on your device and currently you must manually start it to enable Droid2Desk to work. In the future this will most likely be a self starting service. The first thing to do is install the apk, start Droid2Desk, tap to stop the service, set the name of your device and enter a password, then tap to restart the service. Note that when you install the apk it needs a lot of permissions. These are all required for the functionality provided by the application. Currently, if you want to receive notifications on your desktop you must go into Settings, Accessibility and enable the Droid2Desk accessibility service. This allows ALL notifications on your device to be captured by Droid2Desk. This may or may not change in the future.
Desktop Application (Droid2Desk_xxxxxx.zip)
This zip file contains an executable Java JAR file along with some prerequisite files required to run Droid2Desk. It should run on any OS that supports Java. Extract everything in the zip to a folder, maintaining the folder structure. On most systems you can simply double click Droid2Desk.jar and it will launch. If this doesn't work, navigate to a command prompt/terminal and run the application with "java -jar Droid2Desk.jar". Once the application is started, it should find your android device and you will be able to Connect, enter the password you picked above and hit Connect again. At this point, Droid2Desk will connect to your device and sync some information. The first time you do this it may take a minute.
You are now in the main application. If you get a notification on your device, it should show in the Notifications Tab. The Camera tab should allow you to snap a picture (the Droid2Desk application must be in the foreground on your device for now). The SMS tab should show you all your conversations and allow you to continue them. You can't start a new conversation yet! Finally the files tab, should show you a tree with your sdcard contents and you should be able to navigate the directories. You can't download or upload yet.
I think that's enough to get you running. If anything goes really wrong, screen shots and device specs are a must. I'm going to sit on development for a day or so until I see what kind of feedback I get here. As I said previously, I don't want to get too far ahead until I have some idea if this works for others.

You can have a full sms conversation on your PC, everything is routed through the phone.
I have a friend who was just about to start development on a way to send MMS/SMS through his phone, I'm sure he's interested.
I don't text much, but overall this program is pretty cool, particularly if as said, if you can stream video or series of snapshots.

Play Android Games on your Pc With BlueStacks Beta 1

I posted in the 3d forum, but will re-post for all here:http://bluestacks.com/
BlueStacks' NEW Android App Player for PC. Run android apps on Windows PC.
BlueStacks just opened its Beta doors a few days ago.
If you own a Window’s anything (laptop or desktop), you MUST try out BlueStacks App Player.
It is not slow and jerky like phone emulators or like Amazon’s virtual playground for some apps in its appstore.
Of course, not every app will work with BlueStacks, but SO MANY of them do. It is worth playing with.
Your Phone Will Sync All The Favs!
Another great perk is that you can link your phone to the app player on your laptop or desktop with their Cloud Connect app.
This app installs on your Android phone and allows you to pick and choose which apps from your phone you want synced to your desktop.
You will have access to the Amazon AppStore and Get Jar and a few other appstores right out of the gate.

that would be awesome on windows 8 with a touch screen monitor, some hardware maker should bundle this with their touch laptop or windows 8 tablets as they will auto inherit 1000's of touch apps or an android vendor should integrate with their android pc suite like samsungs kies if it ever gets fixed

I like this, it makes it look like a tablet. Hopefully a future update is to make it look like ICS rather than Gingerbread.
A nice feature I found out accidentally was that if you have a webcam plugged into you computer then you can use the camera app to take pics with it.

The ARM emulation can be a bit slow, not optimal for running games. It will virtualize anything it can in x86, but most games are ARM only.
Bluestacks does plan on making a version for Windows 8 ARM tablets and since ARM can then be virtualized instead of being emulated it should have no performance issues.
wow this is interesting...! thanks for this
This seems nice, will try it asap.
i'll try this, thanks a loooot!
Having tried the BlueStacks emulator recently, I can attest that it's very easy to set up and get playing your favorite Android games right on your desktop. However, it's only available for Windows currently and you have to install the Cloud Connect app on your phone to get it to sync with apps only found in the Android market.
If you want something that actually runs the full Android OS on any platform (through VirtualBox) and doesn't limit you to GetJar or Amazon's app stores, you should check out Android-x86. I made a video yesterday showing how to install the Android-x86 emulator in less than 5 minutes.
Granted, it's not quite as streamlined as BlueStacks, but it grants access to all the Android apps you would normally have on any 4.0 device and seems to run much more smoothly.

Very cool find OP. This thing certainly seems to be more than capable of most of our games: I just got a 4826 on Quadrant, and a 9633 on Antutu.
I don't know if this is the necessary way to do it, but I got ADW Launcher and Play Store installed by installing this, then going to system/apps and installing g1.apk. The default settings app is in there too.
And the settings app claims the model is "GT-N7000", or the Galaxy Note. Anybody know if this ROM is based on that, or if they are just trying to emulate the phone?
I'm trying for root now.
I would love to see a Linux client, but this looks cool.
how about emulate android app,, it can??
Superb Man. Good Work.

What do you mean by the pack file, there should be 3 or 4. Also, no discredit against the OP but he didn't port it, the Quake engine was ported by someone else, he did however give you a nice set of instructions and a batch file in order for you to play the Half life content in it (half life originally used a modded quake 1 engine)

Yeah, there probably should be 3 or 4 pak files in the directory. Fact is I couldnt find any .pak files in the steam version so maybe valve re-made HL for steam and removed the pak file for something else.
Anyways I could find 2 pak0.pak file in the hard copy version of HL. One in the valve directory and 1 in the tfc folder. Ive put the pak0.pak file from the valve folder in the ID1 folder as explained by the OP and get the Quake error that I posted.
I have no idea what i'm doing wrong. So if anyone has a clue, please post .
Why don't you attempt to port the real thing instead of a poorly-made 'port' for the PSP? There's an engine called Xash3D that brings 100% compatibility over the GoldSrc engine, porting it to Windows RT should be mostly straightforward with a GL to DX wrapper, give it a try
http://www.moddb.com/engines/xash3d-engine
Project files from Xash might be too old though to be compiled under VS2012 , there's another project forked from Xash that has project files that run on recent builds of Visual Studio
https://code.google.com/p/sing-engine/
Server and Client DLLs from Half-Life (and mods) need to be also be recompiled, but that shouldn't be an issue at all
I'd love to see the real Half-Life running on Windows RT

The hell are you on about? This is the original quake engine ported to windows RT instead of DOS or full x86 windows, and not a poorly done port. Then a small bunch of hacks are applied to the half life pak files to allow them to run under quake instead of goldsrc (goldsrc is just an extended quake 1 engine, has quake 2 style animations and thats about it).
PSP has nothing to do with it.
As for xash or sing. Might be worth looking at, but this solution runs fine. GL to DX wrapping on RT can be problematic though.
Half Life 1 has no 'Pak', It's possible to run Half-Life maps on a Quake-based engine though with major modifications (With per-texture palette and coloured lightmaps and other things) but this is all in the vanilla quake engine, as far as I'm aware, this is based on the Half Life PSP port in QC but it's really buggy regardless of how good it is because of how limited QC and the Vanilla quake engine are for these things, regardless, any Quake Engine of any platform would run it due to the bytecode nature of QC.
The GoldSrc engine has MUCH more to the Quake 1 & 2 engine, this solution is fine if you don't seek much quality, porting it wouldn't be hard anyway.
Half life running under quake 1 engine massively predates the PSP launch... Have you even tried this hack yourself?
And no, the engines you linked would not be easy to port necessarily. OpenGL instead of directX being a *major* issue. OpenGL to DirectX wrappingcan be highly problematic when it wants to be, RT devices arent even as powerful as old netbooks so if a game wont work with GlDirect (which we do have at least but it doesnt always work with everything) then the only option tends to be software rendering which then leaves us with 0fps. Quake on RT is using directX rendering natively from an existing DirectX quake modification on windows: http://directq.codeplex.com/
I don't have a Windows RT device (Wanting to purchase one though, and waiting to see if Cotulla does anything interesting) but I know the inner workings between RT and NTx86 and I've played HL PSP a lot, I have even talked with the original creator regarding it, GLDirect isn't problematic, specially in a game with no HLSL shaders at all, Quake 3 RT runs perfectly over it
Even though you are a senior member you seem to have a lack of knowledge and just try to make things up that just make me jiggle, I don't want to make this into a flame war
It doesn't matter how easy/hard the engine to port is, it matters that this is the route he chose to go down. There's no need for flaming another user because he didn't take the route that you determined would be the best. As it stands what he has works (more or less), and he doesn't need guys like you talking down to him over it.
If you dislike this solution to the point that you are this up in arms over it then I suggest that you try to do it yourself, instead of bashing and complaining about the work that others have done. As previously said, DirectX and OpenGL are both finicky on RT. The former is missing a large number of features, and the latter is completely absent. Just because one game runs using a translation layer does not mean that another game will without extensive modification.

You are the one with lack of knowledge. If you had even bothered to READ the Google code project page, you would have seen that certain CLOSED source i386 ONLY components are required.
If it's so easy why don't YOU do it instead of flaming??
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Only VGUI, which it works fine without (But doesn't give you a main menu, but you can still do everything on console), I've hacked around Sing and Xash already and I'm a Source Engine aficionado, I only made a suggestion that it would be more interesting to have the real game ported instead of a look-a-like and play-a-like.

Leapdroid - a brand new and most performing Android virtual machine

Hi All,
We have just released a new Android virtual machine, called Leapdroid, it is a Windows program that allows you to run Android Apps in Windows. Our focus has been on graphics performance. It outperforms all other players on market, such as BlueStacks, Genymotions, Andyroid, etc... it supports a lot of games, and it it is totally free, you can download it from our website:
http://www.leapdroid.com
From development point of views, we have implemented most features that Google's emulator has, such as compatible adb. Our virtual machine is the only vm that can start adb before vm starts, same as a real device, so you can get the first line of adb logcat. We have also optimized other aspects of the system.
Check it out!

Here is a video with Leapdroid playing a few games, including a shooting game. This video demonstrates the advanced key mapping feature.
Booting Speed is really amazing
I tried using several android emulators such as B****, G*****. Tried this new one. Having not gone through intensive usage now, I am already shocked by its launching speed. Amazing! Really beats others. It is a fresh boot, not like B****'s not shutting down and faking instant boot.
I forgot to mention that our vm supports multiple instances. After installations, two android virtual machines will be created.
Has been looking around for a VM to play Minecraft. This is the only capable so far.
Thanks, Leapdroid!
How I can switch input language?
"Control + Spacebar" not working for me.
What is the Windows input method software you are using?

That looks awesome!!
One question: (You would rock some worlds with that)
Could you somehow release a version compiled for arm-thumb2 so windows-rt-JB users could finally open android apps on their first gen surface RT <3
Probably impossible, but I never give up the hope
Hi Blade,
Thanks for the nice suggestions. A thinner run-time version that can run on ARM systems is definitely our direction, but it will take quite sometime to implement. For the moment, we are focusing on developing a new generation of android virtual machine on X86 architecture. As you may have noted, current android virtual machines are still not that compatible if compared with a real android device, many apps still don't run well inside emulators. Leapdroid will lead in these aspects.
Good performance
Run very smoothly so far. Is there a way to install apps without using Google account?

Assuming you have your APK ready:
I've found the following information on their website h t t p : / / leapdroid . com / helpcenter . html. It seems that they reply on standard adb to install programs.
I typically use apkmirror to download APKs. What kind of channel do you use?
BTW: I do not understand XDA does not let me to post web links. Maybe for safety reason....
http://www.leapdroid.com/helpcenter.html has more info
Before we enable drag/drop (which should come soon), you will have to use adb to install apk.
Adb works for me. Great work!
When can we see a Mac version?
We are working on Mac and actually Linux version too, but currently focusing on Windows.
How do I unroot or install Xposed?
You can do adb remount, then you can change system partition
I'd love to try this, but I feel very suspicious.
There's no "about" page on the Leapdroid website, so we don't know who we are giving our Google Account credentials to when we login.
Three of the comments on this thread were written by new members who signed up just after this thread was started... that's a red flag for me.
If you look at my profile, you will see I am not new, you can also google my name, will find out.
Our website will have more info soon, we are a VC funded company, located in Fremont, California. I did Android vm a few years back, also released here, please check my old posts.
We have another thread, which is here, with more comments:

I appreciate the info. I'll keep an eye on this project and will reconsider installing it once more info is put up on the site.
It works really Well. Is there any thought of updating it to newer Android versions? Definitely the best Emulator I have used so far.

About XePlayer:
XePlayer is a best & free Android Emulator for pc that enables all Android games and apps to run smoothly in Windows systems. It built on x86 Architecture, support advanced features like OpenGL & hardware acceleration, run faster, more stability and compatibility than other Android Emulators. XePlayer Android Emulator for pc support video recording, gamepad & keyboard, and internal integrated Google Play store to compatible with all apps, more than 99% apps & games Running perfect on XePlayer.
Play your favorite mobile games and make use of all your preferred mobile apps from the comfort of your desktop with this powerful Android emulator.Computer builds can get pretty powerful these days, even capable of fully emulating other powerful devices. There are plenty of reasons you want to try something in a virtual environment, and if you’re looking for a flawless emulator for generic Android devices, then XePlayer is just what you need.
Experience the Android OS on your desktop
First of all, you might want to be sure your computer is capable of running the application, because it might eat up some resources since it emulates an entire different operating system, which, in turn, can have other games and tools active. Moreover, your computer needs to have Virtualization Technology active, namely VT-x for Intel, and AMD-V for AMD processors.
The interface has a familiar look and feel about it, that’s if you ever laid hands on an Android smartphone or tablet. Interaction is pretty much the same, with the mouse used to interact with objects as elements just as you would with your finger. However, there are also some helpful elements for when a single mouse can’t handle the task of two fingers otherwise used on a touchscreen.
Since a desktop interface can’t really hold all the functionality of an actual phone, the application is fitted with a nifty sidebar where you find all sorts of tools. Some, like the two-finger control mode, come to aid in particular regions, while others, such as the recorder or add APK file, can help with more advanced tasks.
Play games, try apps, and connect to the Internet
One particular sidebar function you find of particular interest is the keyboard control. It lets you create a fully custom keyboard right there on the screen, which can include additional control elements, such as a Gravity Sensor, GPS walking keyboard control, direction controller, crosshair, and more.
Needless to say that the application comes with its own settings, which in turn affect the emulator. Depending on your PC specs, you can tweak performance levels, display, and CPU usage. Interface settings, such as orientation, can be changed, as well as general options, like starting with Windows, or enabling root startup.
Things get a little more fun, if not enough already, when stumbling upon really familiar elements, such as preferred games and apps. You can directly connect to the Google Play store with your existing Google account, which means all achievements and other account bonuses are shared across all Android devices you associate with your user.
A few last words
To sum it up, XePlayer can really make you think trick you into believing you’re using your tablet or smartphone instead of the PC. Performance is flawless, with neatly-designed and interactive menus, configurable controls, and an immersive Google Play experience.

Is this a fork of NOX Player? Are the original developers aware that you're using their codebase?
We have been authorized by original developers. And it is very easy to use and fast.

thanks

fwiw google flags/blocks the xeplayer download, determines it's malicious... if warning is ignored and file is allowed to download, a malwarebytes scan on the downloaded exe file also flags it as malicious (pup).... probably nothing, by why have anything packaged in an exe file that would trigger this?

The question is why do you used it in an emulator, while you can just open the web using web browser?
Compared to NOX why should I prefer XePlayer?
