Leapdroid - a brand new and most performing Android virtual machine - Android General

Hi All,
We have just released a new Android virtual machine, called Leapdroid, it is a Windows program that allows you to run Android Apps in Windows. Our focus has been on graphics performance. It outperforms all other players on market, such as BlueStacks, Genymotions, Andyroid, etc... it supports a lot of games, and it it is totally free, you can download it from our website:
http://www.leapdroid.com
From development point of views, we have implemented most features that Google's emulator has, such as compatible adb. Our virtual machine is the only vm that can start adb before vm starts, same as a real device, so you can get the first line of adb logcat. We have also optimized other aspects of the system.
Check it out!

Here is a video with Leapdroid playing a few games, including a shooting game. This video demonstrates the advanced key mapping feature.

Booting Speed is really amazing
I tried using several android emulators such as B****, G*****. Tried this new one. Having not gone through intensive usage now, I am already shocked by its launching speed. Amazing! Really beats others. It is a fresh boot, not like B****'s not shutting down and faking instant boot.

I forgot to mention that our vm supports multiple instances. After installations, two android virtual machines will be created.

Has been looking around for a VM to play Minecraft. This is the only capable so far.
Thanks, Leapdroid!

How I can switch input language?
"Control + Spacebar" not working for me.

What is the Windows input method software you are using?

That looks awesome!!
One question: (You would rock some worlds with that)
Could you somehow release a version compiled for arm-thumb2 so windows-rt-JB users could finally open android apps on their first gen surface RT <3
Probably impossible, but I never give up the hope

Hi Blade,
Thanks for the nice suggestions. A thinner run-time version that can run on ARM systems is definitely our direction, but it will take quite sometime to implement. For the moment, we are focusing on developing a new generation of android virtual machine on X86 architecture. As you may have noted, current android virtual machines are still not that compatible if compared with a real android device, many apps still don't run well inside emulators. Leapdroid will lead in these aspects.

Good performance
Run very smoothly so far. Is there a way to install apps without using Google account?

Assuming you have your APK ready:
I've found the following information on their website h t t p : / / leapdroid . com / helpcenter . html. It seems that they reply on standard adb to install programs.
I typically use apkmirror to download APKs. What kind of channel do you use?
BTW: I do not understand XDA does not let me to post web links. Maybe for safety reason....

http://www.leapdroid.com/helpcenter.html has more info
Before we enable drag/drop (which should come soon), you will have to use adb to install apk.

Adb works for me. Great work!
When can we see a Mac version?

We are working on Mac and actually Linux version too, but currently focusing on Windows.

How do I unroot or install Xposed?

You can do adb remount, then you can change system partition

I'd love to try this, but I feel very suspicious.
There's no "about" page on the Leapdroid website, so we don't know who we are giving our Google Account credentials to when we login.
Three of the comments on this thread were written by new members who signed up just after this thread was started... that's a red flag for me.

If you look at my profile, you will see I am not new, you can also google my name, will find out.
Our website will have more info soon, we are a VC funded company, located in Fremont, California. I did Android vm a few years back, also released here, please check my old posts.
We have another thread, which is here, with more comments:

I appreciate the info. I'll keep an eye on this project and will reconsider installing it once more info is put up on the site.

It works really Well. Is there any thought of updating it to newer Android versions? Definitely the best Emulator I have used so far.

not working yet for OMNIA
Hi,
unfortunately not working on OMNIA screen
only supporting 240,320,480,640
Working well in the UK on my hermes. No need for fake American phone numbers.
Edit:
No sound on videos. Anyone else have this issue, or is it just me?
I am sure it is a good browser. The thing that just bothers me, is, that everything is rendered at the SKYFIRE servers - now, for getting the web content including flash, jave and multimedia on my phone ... well, excellent job! However, I have some security concerns regarding online banking and other stuff I do in the web, so, I most likely won't use it because of the rendering / generating of code at the Skyfire server!
Sure, the developers will tell me "It is 100% save" but then, ... I guess you got my point?
<Just my personal opinion - I am sure lots of users will be happy with Skyfire!>
which version is it? is it different from the beta versions like 0.8xxx (i guess it is something like that)
Its still a beta, version 0.85.0.7927. Seems about the same, but there's no need to log in.

Still no multi-tab pages?
No Good for WVGA.
no mulitab but you can download stuff now
Works well on MDA Compact 4, nice to have full video etc when on wifi. Might be able to finally uninstall Opera mini (though it has been a good browser!!).
Works awesome on my HTC Wizard
Two nights ago I got bored with my htc wizard, had only wm5. I googled htc tweaks and found xda... my personal heaven now. two days later I have a phone I'm actually interested in.. with Wm6, SKYFIRE ( totally cool ) and a bunch of other apps I never knew existed. I didnt find a thread to say thanks to xda developers... but thanks... really.
btw, can anyone tell me what direction to step in if I want to learn about programming and writing software like the cool stuff I found on xda please?
Daniel
Skyfire's sound problem
There are no sound on athena x7501.
Just used it again, and the sound is now working. I didn't change anything, so it must have been a server issue.

The easiest way to get started is VS2008 but it is also commercial!
The good: It has a very nice user interface, excellent editor for writing code (with VISUAL Editor, so, not only script based) and finally as well a WINDOWS MOBILE EMULATOR integrated, so, you won't mess up your real device in case you make a mistake!
Besides that, VS2008 features different programming languages: Basic, C#, C++, Java - if you really want to program professionally, the only way to go would be C++. Other than that, I would recommend get started with Visual Basic - the language is easier to learn.
My recommendation:
Download one of the VS2008 EXPRESS Editions - it is freeware! Make some simple Windows desktop programming to get familiar with the interface and the programming language you have chosen. Join as well the MSDN Forums, hang out at www.codeproject.com - a great place snd source for programming techniques and code samples - and if you're finally still interested in programming, get the commercial version of VS2008 and start programming as well for PDA and Smartphone - it is really fun, trust me!
Sure, some people might come up now with the good old "It is .NET!" arguement, well, sure it is .NET! .NET is part of Windows since Windows XP SP1 and now also fully integrated in WM6.1, so, no big deal! For older platforms, the .NET distributables are available for free download.
However,
Try out cool stuff like this, go through the code to understand what it does, program your own little helpers and once you master it, you will have an easier intro to non-.NET C++ programming (which then will provide you with the full power of programming. The reason why I recommend VS2008 at first, it is very easy for non-Programmers to do stuff in there. You will in addition find millions of places / forums with how-to's.
If you make a quick jump to C++ directly (non-VS) then you most likely will get frustrated very soon since documentation and everything else is mostly written for people who know C++ inside out - VS takes you into the programming world slightly and there is much more help and lots of beginner guides available - this is why I recommend it to beginners, not to promote .NET.

Play Android Games on your Pc With BlueStacks Beta 1

I posted in the 3d forum, but will re-post for all here:http://bluestacks.com/
BlueStacks' NEW Android App Player for PC. Run android apps on Windows PC.
BlueStacks just opened its Beta doors a few days ago.
If you own a Window’s anything (laptop or desktop), you MUST try out BlueStacks App Player.
It is not slow and jerky like phone emulators or like Amazon’s virtual playground for some apps in its appstore.
Of course, not every app will work with BlueStacks, but SO MANY of them do. It is worth playing with.
Your Phone Will Sync All The Favs!
Another great perk is that you can link your phone to the app player on your laptop or desktop with their Cloud Connect app.
This app installs on your Android phone and allows you to pick and choose which apps from your phone you want synced to your desktop.
You will have access to the Amazon AppStore and Get Jar and a few other appstores right out of the gate.

that would be awesome on windows 8 with a touch screen monitor, some hardware maker should bundle this with their touch laptop or windows 8 tablets as they will auto inherit 1000's of touch apps or an android vendor should integrate with their android pc suite like samsungs kies if it ever gets fixed

running full speed HD games on a mediocre windows 7 PC here
I like this, it makes it look like a tablet. Hopefully a future update is to make it look like ICS rather than Gingerbread.
A nice feature I found out accidentally was that if you have a webcam plugged into you computer then you can use the camera app to take pics with it.

The ARM emulation can be a bit slow, not optimal for running games. It will virtualize anything it can in x86, but most games are ARM only.
Bluestacks does plan on making a version for Windows 8 ARM tablets and since ARM can then be virtualized instead of being emulated it should have no performance issues.
wow this is interesting...! thanks for this
This seems nice, will try it asap.
i'll try this, thanks a loooot!
Having tried the BlueStacks emulator recently, I can attest that it's very easy to set up and get playing your favorite Android games right on your desktop. However, it's only available for Windows currently and you have to install the Cloud Connect app on your phone to get it to sync with apps only found in the Android market.
If you want something that actually runs the full Android OS on any platform (through VirtualBox) and doesn't limit you to GetJar or Amazon's app stores, you should check out Android-x86. I made a video yesterday showing how to install the Android-x86 emulator in less than 5 minutes.
Granted, it's not quite as streamlined as BlueStacks, but it grants access to all the Android apps you would normally have on any 4.0 device and seems to run much more smoothly.

Very cool find OP. This thing certainly seems to be more than capable of most of our games: I just got a 4826 on Quadrant, and a 9633 on Antutu.
I don't know if this is the necessary way to do it, but I got ADW Launcher and Play Store installed by installing this, then going to system/apps and installing g1.apk. The default settings app is in there too.
And the settings app claims the model is "GT-N7000", or the Galaxy Note. Anybody know if this ROM is based on that, or if they are just trying to emulate the phone?
I'm trying for root now.
I would love to see a Linux client, but this looks cool.
how about emulate android app,, it can??
Superb Man. Good Work.

" On the technical side -*the target devices bear an ARM processor, even though the original program required an Intel processor. I have written a desktop helper application that converts the machine code from Intel to ARM, so*relieving the need for*Winulator to waste precious ARM cycles for emulation. Also, some Windows APIs were implemented to provide the run-time environment necessary for the hosted program to work.*"

freelancer would a helluva game to port! i have never found a good enough replacement for that game.
Starcraft is working fine with this. It's amazing it is running at full speed
The only problem I encountered so far, is that protoss zealots are invisible due to some graphical bug. Their shadow can be seen however.
Overall, this has really high potential and I've seen on the forums that Age of empires is already in the making for it.
Good job!
I find it outstanding how the Devs managed to write an emulator? that runs so smoothly, im gobsmacked that it involves x86 games, windows no less, looking at the videos it runs better then some retro emulators like dosbox and the like, even though dos is an older system, and these windows games being more graphic intensive, in my opinion this guys project has major potential
I often wonder if he's found the mecha of android emulation in its effiency or if it just applies in this particular case, being windows emulation only?

Andy breaks down the barrier between desktop and mobile computing, while keeping a user up to date with the latest Android OS feature upgrades. It also provides users with unlimited storage capacity, Windows and Mac compatibility, and the freedom to play the most popular mobile games on a desktop. With phone as a joystick, you will never have to sacrifice the multi-touch or gyro elements of gaming, and thanks to seamless connection between desktop and mobile, you can receive a SnapChat phone picture on the street and see it on your desktop at home or just download Whatsapp for pc.

I think site should provide the full package for slow internet connection.
Sorry, why to put this on XDA Forums after almost a year of its availability?
It might not make much of a difference with desktop PC's but, something limited in CPU performance Andy OS doesn't seem to run well, tested on my T100TA (x86 baytrail tablet) was choppy and laggy. DuOS runs extremely well on the same tablet, worth noting and trying if you have the same or similar device.

Yes, it's an Android virtual machine, similar to BlueStaccks,. We have compared the benchmark scores, and Leapdroid is the best on market, please give it a try.
We have much better architecture and technologies compared to others, and feel confident to come out as #1 Android emulator. We have a new OpenGL forwarding technology, called LeapGL, and a virtual fiber between android vm and the host machine, which results in ultra high performance. The benchmark scores we got from our vm is very close to native execution speed.
We have github account here, will release some source code.
https://github.com/leapdroid
look forward to Linux version.
Yes, we are working on a Linux version too.
To give you some ideas on our performance, we run BlueStacks and our Leapdroid on the same physical PC, with exactly same configurations. We use AnTuTu 6.0, and the scores are shown in the attached images. The larger the score is, the better the performance is.
it's 156141 (LeapDroid) vs 122794 (BlueStacks)
WTF? The installer provided stucks at 0
Sorry about that, our developer is looking into the issue. Can you try installing again? Also check if the md5 matches.
It's an offline installer, suppose not downloading anything during installation, so that progress bar is misleading, can you check if the file size is around 245MB?
would be nice if the installer says/ask where you're installing to instead of just installing. i also get an empty folder with unreadable symbol after its done installing that look like this C:\Users\SPeciaL\Desktop\ĸ‚⿝矨搦\Leapdroid\VM
can i delete it?

can i delete it?

Yes, you can delete that weird folder.
Look like the bug is to do with self extracting, can you put the exe file to a folder that you have write permission?
We wil release a new version next week.

? the exe is on desktop and i believe i have write permission?. i checked the properties and all it's not "read only" if thats what you meant. besides the weird installation there's also sound lag and kind of felt like echo. the graphic also isn't as clear as bluestack (i used it before it always stuck initializing) and memu.
1st
tried to find and remove all traces of LeapDroid: don't know whether was 100% successful.
2nd
ran installer again. Got error message
but the mentioned folder doesn't exist.
I gave up wasting my time with LeapDroid ...
Suggestion:
Please, I believe the user should always have the choice to avoid "installations", therefore, I'm asking for "Leapdroid-Portable" version.
Such version should always be released alongside the major Leapdroid releases.
When I say "Portable", I mean a self-contained directory with all the settings/things/other you need to run Leapdroid (so, your android emulator can become really portable....aka fully contained on your beloved USB-DataKey).
No weird directories spread on your disks, no infinite amount of obscure registry-keys, no problems when trying to uninstall/reinstall....
....just a directory, full of your stuff.
As jwoegerbauer pointed out, the uninstall process is always a sensitive matter.
What's easier than uninstalling just "deleting" a folder?
some more experiments and it seems to be able to run apps that i couldn't on other emulators, fate grand order for example and also smoother despite sound issue (clash royal). i'd also like to hide sidebar if possible but nice stuff for first version!
Report here:
leapdroid can't run seven knights games and vpn apps
also please add more features like install apk - config resolution - orientation change.
Might want to move the shared folder default location to a more known place like MyDocuments or something. Couldn't find it anywhere so I had to check vm1.vbox and it turns out it was in "C:\Users\*\AppData\Roaming\yiwanzhushou\shared". It's the best way to transfer apks and other files to the Android machine, so it should be in place where your average user can access it quickly without much thought.
Already comes rooted which is always a plus. Would be nice if you could customize WASD keymap, but it isn't a big deal right now.
I don't play that many FPS intensive games, but overall they do feel smooth. Sadly I couldn't get シノビナイトメア / Shinobi Nightmare (jp.co.gu3.samurai) and Tales of Link (com.bandainamcoent.tolink_ww) to work (game starts but there's a black screen and you can't do anything), but since MEmu and Nox can't run them as well I wasn't expecting this to do it, so far only BlueStacks has been capable of running them without issues in my machine.
Also this is just my personal opinion, but I don't think the emulator should come with preinstalled "game installers". Unless you're being paid to put them there, I don't see why some random crappy games must be forced down my throat when I have no interest in them. Needless to say the first thing I did when I saw them was to uninstall them. If I wanted the game, I'd go get it myself.
Thanks for testing and those feedbacks. I hate installation issues too, and we will resolve them in next release. We take user feedbacks seriously.
These couple of weeks we have fixed more compatibility issues to cover more games, we will make sure all games reported here got supported in next few releases.
Please test more, and leave feedbacks. Appreciated!
How to install my own apk
I have played Critical ops on your product, it runs smoothly, key mapping works perfect. But it seems I can only download games from google play store, I didn't find any button or settings with APK install.
BTW, your product boots so fast, less than 5 secs on my pc.
