I'd guess he was looking for the P999 code.

No way really? Never considered that, well except for the fact its in the g2x forum...
Doubtful there will be ice cream sandwich source released for the g2x since T-Mobile sh*t canned the phone. In order for lg to make the software, T-Mobile has to order it and pay for it. They're not gonna pay for an optional update for a phone that was nothing but problems for them. (I personally took hundreds of calls from unhappy T-Mobile customers because of this phone.. I was lucky enough to get one without issues..)
As most are already aware, the su660 and p990 sources, that were released, included the p999 info in it, except for ril. There are devs working on it and I believe they will get it...

Desire GPL source code release- when?

So the Desire is shipping now, which means that HTC is legally obligated to release the GPL parts of the source code, namely the kernel.
Does anyone know how long it normally takes HTC to get their kernel source online after a product release? Older products' source is at http://developer.htc.com.
(I want to attempt to port the kernel support for the FM radio to Nexus One).
Cheers, Hugo
I had a quick look and maybe I was being a bit blind, but is there a contact address for developer.htc.com so we can get a few e-mails into them asking when it'll be released?
In less than 60days we should have kernel source for all htc 2.1 devices currently released. Below from an HTC contact.
Justin Case
Code:
Hi Justin-
I was in communication with our R&D teams the other day, and they are in the process of preparing the Linux kernel for public distribution on these two devices - the current estimate is that they should be ready to go within 60 days.
Best-

I appreciate it, they are not available in the US but I still must
support them in my applications.
I have already ordered both, and they will be here within two weeks.
If you have a European contact for me that would be better on them, I
would gladly contact them.

because a lot of people are waiting for that... and it is released today. imo, nothing wrong with replying 'an unanswered old question'.

So the International HOX has had Source since a month after it came out...

What's the holdup and what can we do about it?
It's been pointed out that as the owners of this device it's up to us to enforce the GPL.
Does anyone know how to go about applying pressure to HTC?
Anyone a member of EFF.org? I'm getting sick of feeling like HTC's bastard child.
Yeah, WTH.
I feel there's gotta be a reason. They can't just be ignoring us out of laziness... can they? I think I read somewhere that they could take up to 180 days, which seems ridiculous. It's only been 70 or something like that. In Canada anyway... it was released on 4/20.
I guess would could bombard them with phone calls and emails, but I'm sure that won't make much difference.

Surely AT&T has something to do with it, and if that's the case, a letter from xda isn't likely to move them.
Also, they aren't yet in breach, yet, right? The phone hasn't been out two months.

their typical canned response is they release within 60-90 days of device release. We're over 60 and approaching 90 for the Rogers phone
Considering AT&T had HTC lock down the bootloader, I'm sure they have also asked them to hold out on releasing source for as long as they possibly can. That is the only explanation I can think of.

If AT&T was controlling it, then explain why the source for the SGS III is out already.

Well, who else has the XL? Rogers, Telus, and Telstra? Their combined market cap is less than 1/10 of AT&T's...
My guess has been they don't want to give Apple any ammo to fight them with. So they're holding out as long as possible.

that doesn't matter. AT&T is not in control of enforcement of GPL. They don't own the code in question. AT&t isn't the culprit here I'm sure of it.
Samsung has always been much faster with source code release.
Yeah AT&T is an evil greedy company who doesn't give 2 ****s about their customers, but I'm not blaming them for this.

I do blame them for the BL being locked while Sammy doesn't care. HTC needs ATT more than ATT needs HTC. Samsung I'm not so sure it works that way.

Well, we're all just speculating here. I'm just saying... AT&T is the only carrier to have them lock the BL ... and they've got the weight to lean on HTC to hold the source as long as possible.
Samsung has leverage HTC does not, as the Galaxy line is in enough demand that they don't need to give in to these kinds of requests.
Okay. I was going to open a new thread about this. But this is easier. Plus no new crazy thread. Subjects would be the same.
I do have a lawyer already on this. You can pm me for stuff if you want it I don't want to get his offices flooded. He wrote a lot of the commerce laws and sales laws the state of California follows today. He's also on the commerce board here in California.
The reason why my lawyer is on this is because of AT&T and their crap between a supervisor/manager and I.
Through a discovery phase;
HTC and AT&T know and are working on the SIM card issue. Yellow screen LCD display (sharps fault). The phone is Gorilla Glass. Not gorilla glass 2. And source will be released 4th of July weekend.
There's little bits of info I know that's proprietary which I can't publically post but is nice to know. Such as a device refresh time with AT&T on the one X**.

Source hold up is caused by Samsung and HTC, not AT&T and HTC. It deals with an agreement they have concerning memory/ram components.

Whenever there is a discussion about source being released someone always says they're talking to a friend who's a lawyer and I always laugh a little inside.
This time seems to be different and I hope so, but when is July 4th weekend? This weekend or the next?

I got really pissed and sent them this, I believe it is my 7th "comment" to them. I would have made it longer but I ran out of charachters. Does anyone know where I can talk to someone from HTC directly? I need to vent and/or use some choice words.
Anyway, here is the "comment"
I'm sick of HTC trying to dance around this issue. Tell me why this site was created. It certainly is not to give developers and the modding community what they want. If you did that, there would be kernel source code for devices such as the HTC One XL. I am a kernel developer and I own the HTC One XL. I bought this device, thinking that I could create custom kernels for it, and I would learn more about it. I bought this device, knowing that HTC would post the source code, unlike some of your competitors. So far that has not happened. It has been almost two months since the HTC One XL was released.
What am I looking for, you ask? I am looking for HTC to uphold its promise that they would aid the modding community in whatever way possible. I have time and time again seen the response 90-120 days, but I know that it isn't true. There is nothing stopping you from releasing the source now. Give me a definite answer. When will it be released? All the community wants is a definite answer.

Only problem is that the One XL was released more than two months ago.

looks like evo lte source released

http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads/
look at the top..the one x cant be far behind..same hardware and all..unless its att behind the delay
So even a device that came out more than a month after ours already has source? I don't understand why ours is taking so long.
I'm annoyed. Ridiculous.
At this point there is no question- AT&T is clearly behind the delay.

So, if Rogers releases the update soon (assuming it is finished) then we would at least get that source, right? If not then we can 100% blame AT&T

I just sent another request, tried to stir up interest on the Verge, and posted to HTC's facebook wall.
Do you guys really think AT&T has the type of power to hold back the source for a phone that has been released around the world?
Before anyone says anything, I'm obviously talking about our variant.

Those people have no control over this. They're just PR.
Here's the email addresses of high ups at HTC.

I've sent them emails. Note, some of them will bounce back. Mr Cher actually forwarded my email to a PR guy. That guy was however useless.
Edit: Here's the generic bull**** message the PR guy replied with.
Locking the bootloader has been a standard security practice in the mobile industry. Locking the bootloader protects you from malicious software and also allows manufacturers to ensure the device will consistently deliver the intended experience. HTC is committed to listening to users and delivering customer satisfaction. Since announcing our commitment to unlockable bootloaders, HTC has worked to enable our customers to unlock the bootloader on more than 45 devices over the past six months. In some cases, however, restrictions prevent certain devices from participating in our bootloader unlocking program. Rest assured, HTC is committed to assisting developers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices and we'll continue to unlock additional devices in the future.

Email I just sent to Peter Chau
Dear Sir:
I'm writing to you to formally request the kernel source code for the linux kernel you are using the HTC One X Evita.
You are required to provide this code upon request in accordance with the GNU Public License under which the kernel was released.
Please advise me as to when and where I can obtain this code.
Thank you

Samsung has already released the kernel source for the S3 and we, One X (AT&T) owners, have been waiting for months for ours. I'm very close to jumping ship and abandoning HTC in favor of Samsung. Please support your developer community and release the kernel source. I like your products and would love to keep using them but I need your help."

An LG tech support employee is not an LG response. These people have very little information about anything that is going behind the scenes. We have all seen many posts like this that keep going back and forth about what is going to happen. So really everything that has been said is far from a reputable source let alone a statement from LG by LG
Also I'm surprised he talked to you for as long as he did. You got really childish at the end.
As much as I would like to believe we will get official ics, I doubt it considering tmobile has to request it then test it out and add their bloat ware. Although the current jellybean development going on looks very promising

There won't be an LG or T-Mobile release of ICS or JB for the G2X/P999 because T-Mobile doesn't sell it anymore and they won''t dedicate resources to testing firmware/software for a non-current phone unless there's something that needs fixing. The only update promised was GB and T-Mobile fulfilled that promise which is more than I can say for WIND Mobile in Canada which advertised that it's Optimus 2X branded version of the G2X would get an update to GB but never did and never will. We're on our own now, with almost no developers left except for a few very dedicated ones who are trying very hard to make ICS/JB work on the G2X/P999. In future, if anyone is considering getting a phone, get an OMAP one or, better, a Google Nexus which is guaranteed to get Android updates for 18 months from the first date of sale of the phone.
Good job typing in caps like you're yelling to the support agent. Nobody wants to deal with children.

Agreed. Why are you giving this guy such a hard time? He has no control over anything. T-Mobile points their finger at LG and LG points their finger at T-Mobile. This is nothing new. Reading this is just a waste of everyone's time. The title is misleading too. LG didn't respond to ICS Update. They didn't respond to anything. A more appropriate title would be "Me demanding LG to give me my update right now and wasting everyone's time"
What was the point of you heckling them for this update? Did you actually think this made a difference? Good job wasting everyone's time.
I needed a good laugh today.

Why, do you work for LG?
Really? I am avid follower who talk with Hell, Dom, and TonyP. No, I don't work for LG, but this a useless thread. What u don't realize, it these kind of threads are what are making all of the devs, including myself, run away from this device and it's forums. The guys that are working on the new CM10 kernel are the ones that keep me here.

Reminder: Request Source Code

Hey guys, just giving a reminder to request the kernel source code for the s7 and s7 edge. You can do that by going to this link http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=inquiryView and filling in the form. For reference the flat model is SM-G930 and the edge is SM-G935. Just set the inquiry type to source code and the category to soc/application processor. For the message just put something like "request for S7 edge kernel source code". Typically Samsung releases the source code faster when they are being nagged. The sooner we get the source the sooner we can start getting to work. Hopefully my Edge gets here in the next few days

We received your request on OSRC.
We will provide the response ASAP, if your request is related to FOSS.
(This site is just for providing source code of FOSS Software we have used in our product.
You could contact with other types - ex. firmware - on your local Samsung support homepage.)

Done! Hope samsung gives it out.

I'm not sure if they will release before March 11th, but at the very least the more people we get to request, the sooner it will be.
I've also put in a request. Hopefully more people will soon
