[Q] Misfortune, Please Help? - HTC One S

So I have a One S that is not hacked in any way, and I was doing an official update from HTC/T-Mobile to it when I lost internet connection. The phone powered down afterwards (acting like it had completed the update). Now I am unable to power it on at all. When I plug it in no light turns on, holding down the power button does nothing, and holding power down and volume down does not do anything. How might I be able to fix this. I looked through the forums but I haven't seen any one having the same problem with a non-hacked One S so I was not sure what I should do.
Any help would be great!
Thanks

If you aren't under warranty you are screwed.

Your phone bricked during an update. It's not that uncommon as doing a large update writes lots of important files. So maybe you got a bad download and here you are. Since you never unlocked you should just submit a warranty claim.
HTC phones come with a 1 year warranty. The phone hasn't been out for 1 year so you're good there.

The only problem is I bought it from a friend so T-Mobile wont do the warrenty because they say it has been used on another account prior to mine

There is still a manufactures warranty. Contact HTC not T-Mobile.

Advice on exchage/return

So...I've had my Mytouch 4G rooted and running CM7 Preview for a little bit.
Last night I decided to put the Eng Boot 'cause I read is the only way to change the splash screen. All seemed fine, no error message. After I rebooted I was graced with a black screen. Now the phone won't turn on.
I am still under my remorse period, but I have no insurance. If I send this back to T-mo will they be able to figure out I messed around with it? Am I SOL?
What if I add the insurance and call saying I lost it, thus paying the premium instead of buying new?
Any advice from people who had to deal with this before?
A very similar thing happened to me, but I was not under the remorse period even. I sent my phone back rooted and unable to be turned on without problem.

Can you get back in the bootloader? Power and Volume down together. This is a likely problem where the clockwork recovery never flashed properly. I always test the recovery first before flashing any ROMS or other stuff. Sometimes the clockwork recovery does not take and you have to do it a second time.

na, I won't even turn on. The only sign of life is a solid led light when I plug the charger, nothing else.

By the way, what did you tell the company? and what company was it?
I have a dead one too, and I discovered that holding both volume buttons while connecting to USB results in 5 vibe pulses and a device being detected: "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" in Windows.
Any ideas what this can be used for?
I am gonna have to send it back soon since I finally got a good screen, but I can mess around with it until then.
Honestly I wouldn't send it back rooted the oow fee have went up and something u may not see on ur bill for up to 60 - 90 days granted some ppl get lucky and not charged but not all

Not the same as sending it back, but I returned a phone with S=OFF and they didn't look even look at the store.
I doubt that they would come back to you after the phone made it to the recertification center. It would be a good 2-3 weeks before a person even touches the phone to inspect it. It would be easier for them just to reflash over it with whatever serial connection they have.

Search the dev section threads - there is a stock recovery in one of the threads.
For those of you that cannot get into bootloader and absolutely nothing happens when you press volume down/power button (try several times and be real sure...) - TMo probably will not be able to tell what happened if the device is totally dead - so go ahead and return it

Dead Desire S - Any help?

Hi All,
My Desire S decided to die today for no apparent reason:
I had been browsing the internet before jumping in my car and switching on the bluetooth. I had been driving for about 10 mins when I got a call through on my cars bluetooth system, about 3 mins in to the call the caller disappeared even though the car said it was still connected.
I pulled over to check the phone and found it was frozen on the call screen. So I disconnected the battery and powered it up, but it could only get the the HTC splash and sound before the screen turned black and the unit became unresponsive.
A few more tries gave the same issue, so i decided to boot it into recovery to do a full wipe, this completed successfully, but the phone was still doing the same thing.
After removing the battery again the phone will now not turn on at all and does not respond to the charger (no led). I've tested another battery, but still no luck, and tried the bat from my DS in my sisters DS and it works fine.
So my phone is completely dead it seems. I should probably send it off to HTC for a repair, but the problem is that the phone is S-OFF and i have no way of getting it S-ON while it's bricked.
Can anybody suggest anything?
I'm not having much luck with HTC as my mozart is at the repair centre as we speak with a bootloader issue... I might have to choose another manufacturer in future
PS: It was S-OFF but running stock software
there is not much to say...try to remove battery and wait for a while...if issue still persist htc service is only hope

Thanks, i'll leave it overnight and see how it looks in the morning. Luckily i have an optimus one spare that has always served me well... It just does not come close to my DS.
I've just had a development!
When i plug it into my windows 7 pc it recognises it as a device "QHSUSB_DLOAD" but fails to install a driver for it.
Can anybody elaborate on what this is?
Thanks!

Afraid this is not good news...you'll need to reign the device and claim under warranty, I wouldn't worry of you made it soff they probably won't be able to tell, read the recent posts on the ext4 recovery thread as same thing happened to someone else

Is not customize`s fault is yours because you removed the battery when it was still working (freeze yes but chip is still working) :| How ben_pyett said you must send it to htc... there are similar posts around here and all removed the battery > htc service ...sry mate

Well i've got it booked in for repair.
Has anybody here had many dealings with HTC Repair, or Regenersis (the UK repairer)?
The guy I spoke to over email (i got fed up of waiting on the phone) about my Desire S was a complete retard. He sent me the same email 3 times in reply to me telling me to restore factory settings... Each time I told him it was not possible as the phone would not switch on...
He then told me that UPS could not pick up my phone for at least 2 weeks, this is despite the fact that I sent my Mozart in for repair last week and was told at least 48 hours. So I would have to find my own way to post or courier it.
Then he books the phone in and sends me the 'Tick Sheet' with the phone information and problem description and in the problem description box he wrote "HELLO"??? WTF? What sort of jokers are these?
At least the woman I spoke to about my Mozart was helpful, she actually gave a meaningful response to my questions, but even she got the problem description wrong, writing just "Reboot Cycle" which is way to vague considering the problem it actually had.

[Q] Is it bricked? After freeze it only vibrates 7 times

Hi,
yesterday while listening to podcasts, my Desire S with MIUI 11.11 completely froze.
It would not switch off so after a while I did a reset (Vol +/- + Power). The screen went black and the phone vibrated 7 times and did not start. Later I took out the battery for a couple of minutes and switched it on again. Same thing: Phone stays dark, it vibrates 7 times and nothing happens. It doesnt react to Vol - + Power to get into the bootloader and is not recognized by adb.
Not even the led comes on when I plug in the charger.
Anything else I can do besides shipping it back to htc?
Thanks!:
Am afraid it does sound like a brick, if you are still under warranty then send it in.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Sadly, it probably is bricked. Getting a replacement is your only option. Just tell them that you woke up one morning, and your phone refused to turn on.
Thanks, for confirming what I already suspected... Now the thing is I currently live in NZ and bought this phone in germany. Does anyone know if I have to send this phone back to Germany or does htc have a worlwide warranty.
yes,it is bricked.if yours are under warranty, just send it to them.they cannot detect if you are s-off or rooted nor anything else.

There is 1 year international warranty, so there should not be any problems with it.
BTW. 7 times vibrate is common for HTC Desire (Bravo), its often when overheating issue apoears.

Looks like it's another one. I am beginning to think this problem is related to some of the firmwares we use since it's happening with different ROMs.
You can try the various things people tell you to do....but if it's unresponsive completely..even if you plug to computer...then so far..no one has really provided a solution or reason for it.
You can see multiple post about it. Happened with mine too...running and then stuck after a long constant tone...then it never turned on again.
If your still under factorywarranty which you should be. Call HTC say phone won't turn on pay shipping fee and they will send you a new or refurbished phone either way it's better than no phone.

I don't think so...
the bootloader unlocking (as htc wrote) void the software warranty
so, if is hardware related you are lucky, they will repair it
try to bring it to htc and say that you did nothing, it just shut down...don't say that you unlocked it or anything like...maybe they will just give you a new one, they can't check if you did something to the phone

Unlocking your bootloader voids your warranty, no matter how you unlocked it, but you have. If HTC gets the phone to power on, no doubt they will check the bootloader status. If they find you've unlocked the bootloader, they will charge you for the repair and damage fees, including the shipping cost.
It depends where you send your phone, if it's a hardware fault they might not charge you, but as I said it all depends on the Service Center.

[Q] Sidekick 4g Bootloop Please Help!!!

I am not rooted on this phone I am on stock 100% I have done nothing with this phone since purchased.. I did not try to install anything on this phone that could have caused this. But yesterday it just started on this bootloop. The screen just shows the T-mobile sidekick 4g logo then to black and over and over .... I have pulled the battery put it back in and it immediately bootloops. I don't even have to power on . It even bootloops with the charger plugged in the battery symbol bootloops. I tried to put the device into bootloader (pwr vol up/dwn) to do a factory reset. but the bootloader screen just flashes on for a second and then it goes right back into the bootloop.
It appears as if this is bricked but how is that possible on a stock device? I called t-mobile and they could not help. All they wanted to do is sell me a new phone.

@karose465 How old is the phone? If less than a year (doubtful), it should still be under warranty. Or you may be eligible for upgrade pricing: Fore example, "Customers with a Classic plan (two-year contract) are eligible for our lowest upgrade price on a new phone when at least 22 months have passed since their last phone upgrade. A new two-year contract is required to take advantage of best upgrade pricing. Of course, you can always upgrade a phone at any time, regardless of how many months have passed since your contract began."
For more info on Heimdall, just Google Heimdall Android.
Anyone with a sidekick contract ends earliest next march..

I think for him and myself, the biggest problem is being unable to get the phone to stay in download mode. For some reason, the battery won't charge and the phone itself continously turns off and on when plugged in. So the charge isn't holding, therefore nothing will stay on/open.
Im having the same problem. I have searched everywere and cannot find an answer that will fix it. If anyone can please help us fix this issue.

my Sidekick 4G is very old and just now went into bootloop... i googled the word and came across this forum.
As quoted above by previous poster that a power button repair was needed... I figured that I had nothing to lose, it being so old, I smashed the crap out of the Sidekick 4G on its power button. Lo and Behold, it booted into the system successfully.
SO... if no one has any qualms about smashing the crap out of their power button... give it a shot. It worked for me.

I don't know if my Sidekicks problem is related to this or not. I rooted it and flashed it over to Glorious Overdose v5 on May 22nd this year and it's been running great. At least it was until last Friday, Sep 13. I was having trouble connecting to the WiFi at my house so I rebooted the phone. When it started to come back up a female voice started saying, "VooDoo lagfix has been disabled." "Converting /data and /system partitions." "Conversion time estimated 10 minutes."
I let it do it's thing and that's all it's been doing all weekend. I can get into recovery mode, I've tried restoring the phone from my backup with no success. I've even tried running through the process of setting up GOv5 again and it says it's successful, but the phone never boots up. It just stays in the same blasted bootloop and saying the same things over and over again about VooDoo. I've checked the VooDoo logs and there is an error file for the 13th and the logs following say "conversion." Can someone point me in the right direction as to what I can do to get my phone working again? Everything I've tried to research so far hasn't worked.
v5 hold both volume button, the track button and power button. Should put you into recovery mode. If not, you will have to put phone into download mode. You do this by taking out battery, then pluging into computer. When you reinsert battery hold volume down and power, if I remember correctly, and your download screen should come up. From your cp manually unroot it. Then it should be fixed, and just reroot it. I hope this was helpful

Dead thread but this is your answer - Your power button is shot. Need to have a new one put on. I know your problem has been fixed / replaced but for others still searching for answers...you need a power button repair.

Hey, MythEdge. I'm not sure if you get notifications here or anything, but I registered to this site specifically to thank you; my phone ( Sidekick 4G, like OP ) bricked, and I smashed it against the table a few times ( you know, delicately... ) and it resurrected.
So thank you, sir; you were precisely correct. It worked on both of my phones, which had the exact same problem.
Just, wow. Thank you.

And almost a year later I log in and see this. Your most welcome. I haven't been working on phones for awhile but if I remember right, some models can be powered on by plugging the phone into a power source and when the phone vibrates or has a sign of life unplugging the unit. Some cables don't work and sometimes doing this via a computer can power up a device. Other than that, the other more dangerous way is to short out the pins on the bottom of the unit. I don't remember the pins but you can google a charge port diagram to help. I don't recommend doing this unless you have absolutely no other choice. Incidentally, this is why a phone will power itself on when a battery is put in and no other button is touched. The port is wet and corrosion has caused a link on the power pin and believe its pin 3. A simple cleaning with 90%+ rubbing alcohol solution will fix if cleaned quick enough.
