[Q] can load multiple os in android phone - General Topics

can we load multiple os in android phone with dual boot just like as pc?

yes you can. hd2 is good example

yes. but definitely wont work with just any phone.
best example is the almighty htc hd2.

There's a multi boot app, which allows you to boot and switch between roms on your SD card.
It doesn't work with all phones.

wow, I shocked!

I thing it depends on the kernel and the recovery. For example, siyah kernel supports multi boot

[Q] multi rom booting possible?

hey there,
was wondering if it was possible at all to multi boot roms so i dont have to flash nd flash too see which one i like??
AFAIK, not past letting ROM Manager (paid version) do it, and I don't think that app is supposed to work well on the TF. Besides there isn't many ROMs, there's only like 4; some phones have like 14+.

Dual Boot ROMs!

Wow, never knew it was possible! We can actually use more than one ROM at a time! This is faster and better than NANDroid restores! IT makes a copy of the ROM on your SD card, you can have up to 5!
SO you can simply switch back and forth using it as a normal ROM without having to do backups/wipe between switching!
it creates a partition on the SD card for the ROM(s). booting etc, is as simple is normal etc
Our Device is officially supported! Anyone tried it yet?
Dual Boot is just a great app...only ics rom is not currently supported

Wow was thinking about this, since I am dual booting Windows and Ubuntu on my laptop. But never thought it is implemented for our phones. Thanks for the info!
Have been using it for some time now, works great with CM7 roms, MIUI works good too but never boots back to the main ROM from MIUI, have to always flash the boot image saved by boot manager via recovery to come back. Tried sense roms during the early stages, had problems, but that was version 1, haven't tried sense roms lately.
Have reaper setup on SD, haven't used it though as a daily ROM.
Good way to preview a ROM without actually wiping anything.

Hey man, been using this but I got no luck. Boot takes so long that I have to remove battery (I know, I know, it's bad) just to boot back so I can restore my backup. Contacted dev and says that I have to check force large boot. Is that also your case?

Yes, as of the latter versions, force large boot img has to be ticked, otherwise it gets stuck at HTC logo.

Encountered it a while back in 2011 when envy became an issue (CWM mods natively multiboot on my wife's SE X8). Too many issues with my favorite ROMs (Virtuous & MIUI) made it a no-go for me. Nice to know there's renewed interest in it. Especially from a champ like you. Does that mean we'll see more ROMs with native support for multiboot (had to mod some ROMs on the X8 to make them work)?
Will try soon
i will try this app as soon as i can Looking forward to it! Now i just have to downgrade HBOOT...

Dual ROM?

Is there any possibility of having 2 ROMs running on inspire?
like we will choose which one to boot at the boot-screen?
http://lifehacker.com/5826050/how-to-dual-boot-multiple-roms-on-your-android-phone
BTw and not to be snarky, this has been covered to hades and back. Search dual boot Inspire.
You can install boot manager for free from the Market/Play Store. It installs the 2nd rom on your SD card and allows you to dual boot between the 2 roms.

Dual boot xoom ?

I have 32gb wifi xoom running wingrey Team EOS nightly 4.1.1 JB i was wondering is there a way tomake the xoom a dual boot ( android / Linux ) i know i can install Linux nativly then go back to android via backup but a dual boot would be much easier something like the touchpad tri boot but only dual

What linux can be installed natively?
Open suse?
I do not know i am looking for info to see if it can be done or has already been done something similar to what was done to te hptouchpad

Id say, if they can, we can too.
Bet developers can do but the question is if they want to?
It would be usefull to have both linux and android here on xoom
Yes it would with the ability to run linux natively you would think it could be done. It would be a matter of repartioning as well as boot.img . The whole native linux thing on the xoom is a pain use linux when done wipe and re flash a nandroid backup and then do it all over again. I guess i will have to mess around with my touchpads boot img and the xoom to see if i can get it work my touchpad runs linux, android and webos. Iwould haveto do some serious reprogramming on the files to make them work but I think it could be done

I'm no programmer but i wonder if it would be possible running something like Puppy Linux.
Puppy can boot from an SD card and run entirely in ram.It seems to me this would save a lot of work partitioning, etc. The developer is currently trying to adapt Puppy for ARM boards.
It's a great little distro I used for many years ( after BeOS got too old).
Hmmm interesting i will have to look into that tonight and see what I come up with

Dual booting

Is there a way to choose between 2 or more different ROMs while starting the device?
Kind of. I know you can dual boot. I did it on my evo. I think it is a paid app in the store. Google dual booting on android and you should find it. You don't choose the ROM on boot though, you choose it from the app and then can boot into multiple ROMs, then when you reboot it puts you in that rom you last chose

Usually its from a modified kernel .
