Dual boot xoom ? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have 32gb wifi xoom running wingrey Team EOS nightly 4.1.1 JB i was wondering is there a way tomake the xoom a dual boot ( android / Linux ) i know i can install Linux nativly then go back to android via backup but a dual boot would be much easier something like the touchpad tri boot but only dual

What linux can be installed natively?
Open suse?

I do not know i am looking for info to see if it can be done or has already been done something similar to what was done to te hptouchpad

Id say, if they can, we can too.
Bet developers can do but the question is if they want to?
It would be usefull to have both linux and android here on xoom

Yes it would with the ability to run linux natively you would think it could be done. It would be a matter of repartioning as well as boot.img . The whole native linux thing on the xoom is a pain use linux when done wipe and re flash a nandroid backup and then do it all over again. I guess i will have to mess around with my touchpads boot img and the xoom to see if i can get it work my touchpad runs linux, android and webos. Iwould haveto do some serious reprogramming on the files to make them work but I think it could be done

I'm no programmer but i wonder if it would be possible running something like Puppy Linux.
Puppy can boot from an SD card and run entirely in ram.It seems to me this would save a lot of work partitioning, etc. The developer is currently trying to adapt Puppy for ARM boards.
It's a great little distro I used for many years ( after BeOS got too old).

Hmmm interesting i will have to look into that tonight and see what I come up with

Just bought the TF101 what root method, cwm, and Rom would you recommended?

Im sorry if you get this alot but I'm very confused on all your development posting on how to root my Asus TF101 build # 8.6.5.9 Android - 3.2
I was about to do BRKS root tool kit but I'm not sure I'm not new to rooting having a Droid incredible, atrix, and LG Thrill .. but honey comb and being a tablet I feel uncomfortable with just going to town on rooting.
My main reason is o.c'ing my kernel and I really want this to feel faster my phone beats my transformer with ease.. I'd like to play some game that ive bought on other devices. Why is my fav game modern combat 2 on Acer a500 but isn't on this or the thrive..?
So if y'all could help brother out with my questions I would love to do this asap
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
First thing you need to find out is what the serial number is. If it's below B70, then you can root it, if it's B70 you may be able to root it, if it's B80 or up, presently you can't root it.
It says S/N B60*******
Is this a good thing?

What would you recommended rooting method and Rom for first timer I'm going to wait to root till I get some good answer like I mentioned before I'm not gonna just dive right into it till i have more time for research ect.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Umm, honestly, I think the most straightforward one is the linux universal root. I used it for my b5, and it worked exactly as it should.
I tried it won't let me go to a desktop I've tried the Ubuntu w/script method but couldn't get it to boot past showing me the thinking mouse pointer
So I will try the other way I see a YouTube video on rooting the 3.2 and below so.. i shall see when I do it tomorrow
Thanks for the imput

Even if I updated to 3.2 I'm having a problem I put it into apx mode then it gets stuck saying phone update success but the app on the pc freezes..

use nvflash together with prime 1.4 rom it worked for me when i failed to root and wont boot at all...
Brks worked thanks I've tried all the 3 popular(stable) roms and liked revolver alot but wifi would take some times 5minutes to load so I'm on prime 1.9 and like it alot!

brk worked for me.
Yea it worked good I used an older version he has worked very hard on a new program for windows but unfortunately it did not work with my pc but his older bluescreen script did and I like my tf101 I just wish gameloft made games for it since it basicly the same thing as iconia a500.. I have all game bought just no way to play them..

DRM effing up your gameplay... gotta love it...
Yea it is and I've been in love with android but I'm seeing it becoming more n more strict as it gets older like its nasty counter part apple..

I have used the method on the thread below to root then unroot...install latest version of 3.2 and then to re-root again using the bootable CD method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303
If I had been on a custom rom I might have had a different experience..then again maybe not.
I don't use one and not interested in overclocking ...maybe later as it gets older but my phone never showed much difference by doing so..... perception. If I played a lot of games my perception might be different.

Update kdz with linux?

Hi i have a uk o3d with the stock baseband (21d?) Im currently using thiaiz 1.7 as it is the only rom i get a signal with. As i want to use his latest i know i need to uodate to 21e but i dont use windows. Is there another way

Have you tried wine? It actually pisses me of that android is linux but theres not much support on linux.

I've been running Linux for almost 10 years and have asked the same question. Bottom line is I've not yet been able to use Linux to update phones. Best advice I can give is "borrow" a PC running XP. If you google XP on usb stick there are methods that seem ideal for these odd occasions. I've also tried via virtual box but that failed too. I'm not too happy trying "possible" methods in case the update fails part way, and the phone gets bricked.
Pete
p.s. update to 21E asap, you won't believe the difference in battery life!
use windows

[Q] can load multiple os in android phone

can we load multiple os in android phone with dual boot just like as pc?
yes you can. hd2 is good example
yes. but definitely wont work with just any phone.
best example is the almighty htc hd2.
There's a multi boot app, which allows you to boot and switch between roms on your SD card.
It doesn't work with all phones.

HTC HD2 is a super Phone
http://youtu.be/o0YI-SV4KiU - the installation process
wow, I shocked!
I thing it depends on the kernel and the recovery. For example, siyah kernel supports multi boot

Xoom another OS

HI. I want to know if there is any way to change the OS of the Xoom. I want to install Linux or Windows 8 (I prefer Linux) but I want to run as primary and only OS on Xoom. No virtual machine, no remote desktop. Just to install it on harddrive. Is anything like that?
Ubuntu touch maybe

Not even Ubuntu? Ubuntu runs everywhere! His kernel can recognize even microwave! I like very much the idea of Ubuntu on my tablet instead Android
Not going to happen. You can partially run Ubuntu Touch. But it's far from completely working.

Hm... If we can't run ubuntu, what we can? why android works and ubuntu not, having the same kernel? Do I understand right, that drivers are in kernel and kernel have "public" api?
i have xoom in disposal. i want to use xoom as dev platform on linux. i want to have access to wifi, bluetooth, camera, sensors built in, etc. is it possible, or can you suggest some other kind of such platform? i don't really need 3d acceleration for example. or will it be much simpler to develop on ndk for android?
you can run linux through chroot.
(with the right kernel)
md5?
I've downloaded this backup. I've checked md5 properly, and it was the same, but I couldn't restore it due to mismatching at md5. any solution for me? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1811747

Hp Slate 7

What i know so far
Bootloader can be accessed with Rkflashkit by unplugging and powering off the device, holding volume-up and plugging it back in. Screen will remain black but you should see the device address appear in Rktool telling you it has powered up.
This method will work with Linux, idk if the tool is available for windows
I also found an alternative to the asian rooting method by using Rkflash to flash a rooted system.img(adb remains not fully rooted)
Every attemps i made at modifying the stock boot.img got me stuck in a bootloop.
We can also use Rkflash to flash recoveries but will need to disable the install-recovery.sh script first, otherwise stock recovery just gets flashed back on reboot.
My Cwm build did not work. Device did not seem to boot
I have not tried flashing kernel yet.
Python sent me a PM with a link to cwm builds for devices similar to ours and i tested some. Some of them does not seem to boot, some others get the screen to light up with no graphics. I did not make it halfway through the list yet, i will continue testing hoping to find one that works when i have more free time
He also pointed out we can use FlashGordon to flash recoveries from our device however they need to be in .zip format. I have tried and can confirm this works.
I will also try to upload my rooted system.img file somewhere later this week for those who seeks an alternative to the asian method
Rkflashkit can be found here https://github.com/linuxerwang/rkflashkit
FlashGordon clan be found on playstore

Stock rooted system.img can be found here in the img folder :
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f3hbwjcwcog61t6/vBrb905Iy5
Also disabled the install-recovery.sh script
This if for a Hp Slate 7 2800 by the way
any news ???? i have asked on hp forums for the kernel source but no answer :/
well, not on my side i guess. i've been able to flash recoveries using rkflashtool, but i have not found one that works with the slate yet, i found some that boots without powering the screen, some that boots and lights a black screen, some others with a flickering white screen, some just doesn't boot at all. so far im trying to organize them and see what the booting builds have in common, maybe we could use them as a base or something.
Yesterday I realized I can't send or receive files by bluetooth, am I the only one with this problem?

I don't think Hp will release their sources to be honest, I already sent them an email about something similar and the only thing I got after a 3 months wait was a lot of spam from them in the junkbox asking me to buy a laptop, ink cartridges and stuff like that, so i guess we're on our own and should not expect any support from hp.

i will recive mine in 10 days so i cant do notthing yet and i dont know about BT
do you thing if we make a petition for the souce code it will make direrence ???
I don't know, depends on how many signatures we can get I guess. Still, I doubt Hp will do it.

but supposedly they have to because of GPL ... i think i will make a new thread on hp forums every day until they anwser lol
I think Gpl only applies to stock linux kernel, and since Hp modified it a bit they're not forced to publish it. It would speed up aftermarket development so much if they did though. This is my first Hp product and honestly, I regret buying it, not that the tablet isn't good, but the lack of infos and support, that makes me regret not spending 20 more bucks to get a Nexus 7

i havent recieved it yet but i got mine for 65gbp so it was cheap but im starting to regred it too because thera are no source

but one more time i dont have a complete sure about this

Your recovery didn't work for me buddy.
To disable /etc/install-recovery.sh i just commented some lines in it.
Cwm source is for some Samsung device I think, it would still need some modifications to get it working on the Slate, I guess, I might be wrong too as i'm still a noob into all this

Hello guys, here's another desperate soul that had bought this piece of hardware and can't let it do what I'm supposed it has to.
Last update (I received it yesterday) brought the tablet to version 1.05.10_user and the bug allowing the root access via cydia's impactor has been fixed. That's enough for me: this device needs to be studied and made free.

how would i flash this to my hp slate 7 ?
