Question about S-Pen nib/tip - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to everyone,
This might seem a dumb question, but here it goes:
I still have the pen tip that came with the S-Pen on my Note 10.1, which is probably the white nib with white tip, right?
I have a screen protector on, and the official Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 book cover.
With the screen protector, should I change the tip to a black one? (black nib)
And the main question here:
What is the difference between the tips? In my tablet's package, there are loads of black nib tips for the S-Pen and only 1 or 2 white ones.
What is the difference between them?
Thanks.

The difference is rubber and plastic.
The white ones are plastic, and slides lightly across the screen with minimal friction.
The black ones are rubber and gives a more "authentic" pen feel, as it is a little more friction to the screen.
As of what you should use; it is a matter of taste. I prefer plastic tip, but you might prefer rubber. Try both and see for yourself

To remove a nib and put another, do I just use the ring-y thing that comes with the nibs?
And if so, do I just pull the nib out of the S-Pen? I'm afraid of breaking it or something... :/

I guess I'll just read the instructions carefully, I remember there was something in the S-Pen section talking about the Nib/Tip changing.
Thanks for your replies though

Cool. And "thanks". Yes - I used the button.
As soon as I get home, from work, I will try to replace my nib (it's getting a bit overused).
I will post here, later on, how it feels and how I feel the usability of each different type of nib.

I have a spigan screen protector on my note10.1. I was using the black nib at first then changed to the white because the black one would drag to much. Its really a matter of what feels better to you though.

Hey Guys,
A friend of mine has a tiny scratch on his screen (looks kinda annoying when surfing on the web).
Do you guys have any experience with Screen Polishers or something.
Does toothpaste works for example?
Thanks in advance.

Afaik polishes are meant to be used on plastic screens...i.doubt they can do anything good to glass ones. Your friend is better off slappin a screen protector on his desire to hide the scratch for what it's worth, avoiding future ones aswell, imho

Do those screenprotectors hide a scratch because its in the middle of the screen. and you see it when scrolling website (with white background) looks kinda annoying (i have seen the scratch now).
thanks in advance
A screen protector won't hide the scratch it'll just cover it.
That xerapol stuff looks quite good, it does say it will remove scratches from glass, and it says it'll remove scratches from a motorbike windshield, so it could be worth a shot.
It depends on whether it's a scratch or a chip, big difference, if it's a scratch give the xerapol a try
If it's a chip then it's quite a bit worse. I chipped my old iPhone screen, and it was HORRIBLE.

How to replace I9001 chrome bezel.

It's my first post so I would like to say hi to everyone,
I would like to replace the chrome bezel from my device. It's all scratched and it doesn't look good. I know that some people are just removing the "chrome" paint and sand it but in my case plastic underneath is light gray so it won't look good in my opinion.
I've read that screen is glued to the bezel and it's not so easy to do it that's why it would be great if someone could write step-by-step tutorial how to do it or to share his experience. Is it possible to do it at home without damaging the device?
i am also looking to change the bezel. From what i have found out so far the home button and the touch buttons (menu and back) are attached to the bezel. Also those buttons are glued to the screen and the screen itself glued to the bezel and the housing underneath it. So it should be very difficult and risky to try to change it. Most people in these forums agree that it is impossible to remove the screen without breaking it.
I can't really believe it is impossible to do it, and all who reported on it have tried to replace broken screens so maybe they were not careful enough. On the other hand no one has claimed to successfully removing the screen without damaging it.
Better be safe and hide the ugliness behind a case or something
So i decided to sand the chrome away in mine first to see if can get it look good and thus avoiding the hussle of opening the case
here are some photos of my work so far. Now i need to polish it
It looks really good with your white backplate... but I prefair to keep my phone black
How did you remove the chrome.. Sand it away? i tried scratching it off but it too risky in some places

i used a nail file to sand the chrome away. I covered the edges of the screen with some tape to prevent scratches and also had a screen protector on just in case.
Just jam the tape in the gap between the bezel and he screen, you 'll be fine.
Also patience is highly advised
It looks prety good.
where did you get the white backplate from
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHITE-BAT...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3cc4149074
how much to pay?
It look very nice with white bezel.nice work!
my s plus was white to begin with,i didn't change that.
actually the bezel is grey and not white, it doesn't look all that great up close but it's still better than the damaged chrome.
i mean to paint it glossy white to match the backplate as much as possible but i am still looking for the right paint.
i will come back and upload more photos when done

It's very nice
How about paiting the border black after you sand it down? I'm thinking of doing this with some spray paint.

Thank you for this post. It gave me the confidence to try this on my back SGS.
On the corners of the bezel, the paint had chipped off making the phone look ugly. So I used my nails and blunt side of the blade to chip away the paint.
I found out that there are 2 layers of paint on top of the bezel. First is the black glossy paint which actually chips off.. Underneath that is the silver shade. This cannot be chipped off. You have to use your nails to make it go away. But later I figured out aftershave liquid just does fine and easy job. So maybe alcohol or nail polish remover would also work.
Since I used my nails and blunt blade, there are no signs of roughness or scratches on the surface except for 1 or 2 which is barely visible. So thankfully no need of polishing. The device looks much better now.
If you have figured out about the painting the bezel, let us know. Thanks!

Flip cover + Glasst cover?

Thinking about getting a screen cover for my phone just because I hate scratches and I always seem to get them when I have my phone in my pocket. Even though I have the flip cover view for my new S4 I was wondering do y'all think the Glasst screen shield from screen shield from spigen + the flip cover view will work?
I have both right now, the glass raises up the cover just slightly that it doesn't close all the way. After using it for a while and breaking it in, it's a little better but still has a little lift to it.

Hmm my flip cover doesn't want to close by it self sometimes even without it. Hmm. How do you like the screen shield?
I think it's great, however, I must not have applied it correctly. I have a huge bubble on the bottom right of the screen. I still highly recommend the protector, it actually seems to retract finger prints better than the GS4 screen. I don't even notice that the protector is there most of the time. Just make sure you apply it correctly the first time.

I can't remove the screen plastic

Hey I just got my Nexus 5 and I can't remove the plastic film that comes attached to the screen! I keep clawing at it with my finger nails but it wont come off its super glued or something and I'm afraid to use a knife it might scratch the screen.
Is there some kind of trick or special way to get this damn thing off?
Try masking tape

Isn't there a little tab above the signal icons? Pull that first and it comes off.

DO NOT USE A KNIFE
The screen protector 'should' just peel off but as you seem to have one that isn't, I would recommend just being patient and hopefully it will loosen with some use?
IF you can't wait, use something like a wooden toothpick/cocktail stick (with care) or something not metal (the gorilla glass should withstand it but why risk it). Good luck

Actually you're not gonna scratch the screen with a knife.
But you should have a part to grab on the top.

The masking tape idea is really goof if the tab is gone

Does it say "nexus" across the screen?
I am actually a little upset that nowaday these electronic manufacturers "have figured" it out as in that they feel like their oem plastic screen protectors shouldn't be a freebie screen protector anymore so now they tack on the logo so you almost kinda force to have to remove it or try real hard to live with the logo. This goes for my samsung s4 which has an even bigger logo on it blocking the view.
I have a nexus 10 and a samsung 500t and both of them came with a nice transparent oem protector. I just scissor clip the lift tab at the corner so the protector doesn't get peeled off. And there, save myself the trouble and cost of having to buy a screen protector..... Sucks.....

The thing is that the "OEM protectors" are only designed to keep the screen safe inside the packaging. They lack the real world protection of more engineered screen protectors. They don't want you to use the film supplied as they don't want you to feel that you are adequately protected, if you're a screen protector user. They may help keep very light scratches from the glass but when you really need a screen protector to do it's job, this will not.

White back.

Yeah, look on eBay. Make sure you get the right part. Some will be the back only with no glass, some will be only the glass, some will be both.

A bit. You'll need a T5 TORX driver, and something thin and stiff (preferably plastic) to pry the halves apart. Go slowly. Watch some videos on youtube to see the technique.

No, but you can get an XGear Phantom 4 tempered glass screen protector in white. It has white bands at the top and bottom of the screen. It'll give your phone a bit of a 2-tone look since some black will still be visible around the edges. Actually, that sounds pretty dang cool now that I think about it.
