Alright guys. Here's the deal. This is my fourth warranty replacement for a faulty flexing screen. So, I'd like you guys to do a little test for me and see if it really IS the phone that's broken, or if that happens on all phones.
Please, if you could, do some medium-hard pressing in the middle of the screen (Not too hard, as you'll break it), and around the middle of the screen. Also, if you could, try the edges and see how easy it is to cause rippling along the edges (Mine takes fairly light pressure to get rippling). I'm noticing that there are BIG ripples in the center of the screen with some medium pressure. Is this normal? if this shouldn't be happening, I'm gonna freak out on AT&T.
Thanks guys!
Nothing on mine no matter how hard I press
Sent from my HTC One XL
I have the same problem as well I have a defender otterbox case, and when I press on the right side moderately easy it flexes, I see 1 line against white background I am the middle of the screen. The if I press a tad bit harder on the right side I get 2 ripple lines. I do not get it when I press in the middle or on the left side. Screen flex is an issue with the one x. Do some searching and you will see.. I might send mine in to square trade as mine is not going away..anyone think I will get refunded by square trade for screen flex flaw.?
Can't reproduce this through normal usage on mine, nor see a reason where this would be an issue for me.

It's the case.reviewers have mentioned that the otterbox cases might be pushing too hard on the screen as it proturdes out...
Better off with tpu cases like.. cruzaline?
There are non branded ones for like 2 bucks on eBay. Protects camera and screen well enough.
Used that on my desire HD for almost 2 years. Not one visible scratch...
Have dropped my one x like 6 times now, and I dolt have to worry much. The phone is protected in all areas. Unless I drop it on really unbalanced grouns flat on it's screen.
But then again, the one x screen can also work as a hammer, if youve ever seen that vid.

Are you referring to display distortion? If so, i have not had that. If you are talking about how firm the screen is glued to the shell, then I do have a mild defect on the form and fit but I haven't deemed it for replacement yet.

picked up 2 Nexus S on release day, went home happy. Preoccupied with work, so I only powered them up last night.
To my Surprise, both phones have dust under the glass! WTF Samsung? Removed the plastic sheet on the front to make sure, and yes, it's under the glass.
on one phone the dust was smack in the middle, while on the other phone it was a little left of the middle.
Can't be seen on a dark screen, but once you switch to a white background like the web or texting you can see it.
I know I am probably being OCD and anal about this, but heck I paid over $1k for both phones out of contract.
Went back to BestBuy and returned them promply, of course now they are sold out, and I have to wait for the next shipment.
Just wondering if others have similar experiences? BTW, I also had a Galaxy Tab and before returned it, it also had some dust specs under the glass...
I also own an HD2 and G2, seems HTC is better at QC.
Shame, really want this phone but WTF samsung?
Nope you sure its under the glass?

No dust under the screen here.
It seems that this first batch of phones is a rather mixed bag; some have defects and others are fine. It was a good idea to return them, hopefully your replacements will be free of issues.
My first S had a little speck of something. I initially thought it was a dead pixel, but I could see it when the screen was off also so I assumed it was dust. I returned it and checked the next one out before I left the store and it seems to be good.

100% sure, remove the screen protectors on both of them and rubbed the area where it was, thought it was a dead pixel too, but no it was fine on a dark background, but on a white background could see it easily.
sold out at my local bb, but still available online might go that route.
just wanted to see other people's experiences or maybe they didnt notice yet, lol.

this happen when you have 2 layers for the screen. the internal part and the upper part where you touch.
there is an advantage for this. if god forbid you dropped and broke the screen, only the upper part gets replaced. and wouldnt cost you much to do so " and you wont get another screen with dead pixel and being OCD whatever the new screen is good or not. because the actuall inner screen isnt touched.
the bad thing about is what you said. dust can enter in the middle between both layers of the screen.
even if you get a new nexus S without dust under the screen, if you leave it in the open area with sun and wind always hitting it, you will get a dust somehow inside as well. so make sure your phone is in a pocket most of the time.
the only phone i remember right now that had both layers of the screens touched as 1 part is the iphone 2G and the iphone 4 " i am sure there are others but i dont know "
this result to no dust under the screen no matter what " unless the dust came from factory while they were attaching both screens on top of each other and glue them "
but if you break your screen in the iphone 4.... god help you.
Yeah, after about a week and couple of days of usage, I've got my first spec of dust in the top left area of the screen. Really, it's nothing noticeable but I do have some sort of OCD with my phone (god help me if I get a visible scratch on the screen).
I don't think it's really worth taking it back to get it changed as this Nexus S I have currently has no problems whatsoever, I don't even have the pink or yellow screen issue with this one. I think I'm just gonna have to live with that one spec of dust for now...
I think this may be just bad QC. I looked at ifixit taking apart the NS. Basically they said the trickiest part to the disassembly was the screen, and they had to use a heat gun to soften the glue just to separate the 2 screens. So dust entering between those 2 screens would be pretty difficult unless the glue wasn't properly applied from the assembly line.

I don't have dust under my Nexus S screen... but I do have dust under my front facing camera! And its only recently just got there - I remember playing around with it extensively when I first got it 6 months ago and the camera was really clear and sharp.
Now it is all fuzzy and white haze. And I can see all the dust particles on the underside of the glass. Annoying!
Anyone know if there's an easy way to clean it? Or is it a case of back to Samsung?
Has anybody had any problems with dust under your screen? it almost looks like a dead pixel, but it is most certainly dust. Its on the right side upper part of the screen. Thinking about exchanging it because its super annoying (although i could just be ocding, lol) If this is a widespread problem though i may not bother, just to get another with even more dust under it,although i have not seen any other threads on it in the desire HD section.
It appears as the original desires had a big problem with LOTS of dust under the screen, specially by the volume rocker. Sounds like a screen sealing problem, which HTC had a really hard time with the EVOs too. The screen actually lifted up on the bottom due to no glue on the bottom part of the screen.
Get an exchange and be done with it.

I have dust under my screen also
I suspect the charger and headphone ports are the culprits.
Bugs me to no end.
This was a problem that plagued my CDMA Hero as well. Sprint Service center saw me once a month or so to get it cleaned, Will AT&T just swap it under warranty? So far I'm dust free.
Finally after three replacement I have a dust free screen. Bought mine at BestBuy mobile. They were pretty cool about it.
I noticed dust in the top corners under my screen today too, but I can't for the life of me see it now - the lighting must need to be perfect.
i have dust under my screen now after about 3 weeks of use. it did NOT when i bought it because im anal and i looked very closley. to be honest, a less anal person might not even notice the 5 tiny specs of dust that i see under the screen.
has anyone swapped due to dust issues and got a unit that does NOT get dust under the screen at all? and im aksing this of the people who are turely anal about. ive handed my phone to 3 different people and asked them if they could see the dust, and they could not, then i gave it to my dad (more retentive than me even) and he spotted each spec of dust.
baiscally, im trying to decide if its worth swapping, then going through rooting and getting my phone just how i want it again, only to get dust int he next phone. if its going to happen to every inspire, then i wont bother.

I too, am retentive and checked mine for dust and it's there.
I am still psyched on getting this phone, but I have one issue that bothers me a bit, and I would like to know if anyone else can confirm it.
The black outer trim of the face of the phone that surrounds the screen seems quite scratch-able.
I have a screen protector that covers the phone from the four hardware buttons up, so that part's fine.
However, on the naked black chrome underneath the buttons (and to the right and left of the optical track pad), I already have a few slight, but enough to bother me kind of scratches.
Yes it is
It is very scratch prone..And do yourself a favor and do not use the BodyGlove case, which is the only case they had at Tmobile when I bought the phone. It ended up scratching the phone more than if I didnt have it on at all. I usually keep my phones in pristine condition so I can sell and trade up when the time is right. Ive had this phone for 3 weeks and it looks a year old already.. But it is a great phone despite its weight
Wow, what are you guys doing to your phones???
I have had the phone since the release date and mine looks brand new.

mine isn't scratched b/c I'm using a full body Zagg that I got put on in less than 24 hours of receiving the phone. However, my phone met the side of a filing cabinet while in my Case Logic belt holder and the bottom side of the screen is 'dented' in near the 'home' button, so its like the screen isn't flush, I can feel a little ridge, the other side this isn't present.
so watch out for stuff like that! (phone still works 100% fine, fingers crossed!)
Guys, read what I said again. I'm talking about the black chrome plastic under the hardware keys. It's hard to see in light, but if you look closely, maybe you'll see some scratch(es)?
I'm not talking about the actual touchscreen, if that's what you guys mean...
@token2k6
I have the ZAGG full body shield too, but last time I remember the full body shield doesn't actually cover the entire front face of the phone, but from the bottom of the touchscreen upwards. (which leaves the hardware keys, the optical track pad and the black chrome design naked)
@RazoE
Me too! I still got the G1 case and am using it atm.

$17.99 i just bought one im waiting on it to come in the mail and i found a youtube video to show me how to do it lol
For those who have had to replace the screen, does dust now get under it?
I replaced my screen on a few older phones (some replaced by a service, others by myself), and like clockwork after a few months, dust develops under the screen.
I've almost pretty much settled that if my screen shatters, I'll get it fixed and immediately sell it to avoid that.
Best Case ist Otterbox Commuter or Defender
I hate Otterbox Defenders...so bulky & just ugly. I know, theyre for protection, but these new phones like the One X are just uglied up by the big bulky cases.
Anyway, as for the display changing...I just did a couple last week, no picnic at all. The person that said he changed one in 15 minutes I would bet the farm was a bad overexaggeration...unless you do 20 a day you won't even get this baby apart completely to even think about replacing the screen in 15 minutes.
As for $17.99 I haven't looked at the link yet, but I'm betting it's just for the outer glass (touch panel) and not the digitizer/combo assembly. I scoured the net and could only find the touch panel for this price. The combo (touch panel & lcd) as one fused unit I found for about $80, normally around $145 in most of the usual places.
These ship with the touch panel/digitizer fused, so separating them is basically impossible. I've seen a couple of posts where people say they've successfully removed the glass & replaced it only, but I'm guessing it was someone blowing smoke, or their screen has already been replaced with the 2 individual parts that are not fused.
I opted to choose the 2-part deal for one main reason...both of the ones I replaced were in cases, and fell a very short distance & shattered badly. I'm guessing like the OG Evo, there's really not going to be anything you can do to ultimately protect these, so I'm anticipating future screen changes...hence, the unfused 2-part combo.
I got the outer glass for less than $20, and the LCD for $35 both from Amazon. I was pretty thrilled when I got the glass, as the AT&T branding is gone & replaced with HTC instead. (I hate branding, especially since I use mine on Straight Talk)
I think the first one took me about 3 hours to do, the pieces are a horrible blind jigsaw puzzle of dependencies inside the phone, everything is gorilla glued & two-sided taped to death so it's difficult to break down without destroying important, fragile stuff.
After disassembly it wasn't bad with a heat gun to get the screens out, then made sure to clear out all of the adhesive which took quite a while...that stuff is gnarly.
Then I put in the LCD panel, got it situated & used 2 sided tape cut to around 1cm to edge the LCD for the Touchscreen to be laid on it. Added a LIGHT coat of some really strong bonding adhesive to the 4 corners & the middle of the 2 sides to make sure it holds but don't bleed out under the screen.
Laid down the touchpanel & applied firm pressure for a few hours before I reinserted the phone assembly back into the casing.
The beauty ring around the outer screen got a bit ugly on the first one, the second one came out pristine. No issues at all with bubbling under the screen, it's super sensitive & feels like they did brand new again.
The only issue I have, is when you're doing disassembly, one of the ribbons is held down by the very flimsy & fragile piece of circuit tape that the haptic buttons are in, and on both of them, the lights are much dimmer under the haptics than they were before. I don't think there's any way to remove & reinstall this piece without some minor amount of damage or degradation to the lights, but it functions perfectly fine.
All in all, it worked well, and if I have to replace a cracked screen again, it will be a much less expensive, easier fix the second time around. Also pay close attention when reassembling to your antenna wire, it has a connection much like the bluetooth wire you attach to a card in a laptop and if you're not very careful, when snapping back into place it can interfere with your antenna & your phone charging system.
If this helped at all, please click the "Thanks"

So theres no issues with the screen changing colors? Like the old digital watches and calculators used to when you pressed the screen? I still haven't replaced mine and looking for an alternative to the 150 for the combo. Not really concerned too much with longevity, I'll get rid of it or redo it in about a year anyway so if it last that long I'm good.
I recently noticed this strange blemish around the home button of my GS5 Dev. Edition. The phone has never been dropped in the water and when I clean the screen with eyeglass cleaner or alcohol you can't see the blemish. Once you get some oil from your hands on the screen it becomes visible again.
Samsung wasn't much help when I called them about it and were going to make me pay to fix it. The phone is only about 6mo old.
I really want to buy a Note 4, but I feel bad giving them repeat business when I've never abused this phone and clearly there is something wrong with the screen and they want me to pay to fix it
What would you do in my position?
if you're using a screen protector, i suggest you change it, because with use, the area eroded and subsequently of a different texture than the rest. My HTC One has such a mark on the Home button, which is invisible usually, but with oily hands, is visible.

So it disappears when you clean it? Almost sounds like an issue with the oleophobic coating. (It's an oil-rejecting coating applied in the factory that wears off after a few months. You can buy it to apply yourself as well)
I've seen several thousand Samsung devices, but never this issue.
A screen protector should solve the issue if that is the case. That way residue from your fingers doesn't end up on the actual screen.
