Create custom ROM for android with android - General Questions and Answers

I'm wondering if it's possible to create a custom ROM using my nexus 7. Every guide i found around was either for windows or linux. Can anyone tell me if there is an app to do that or is it impossible and why?

Well, android is Linux...

U can do simple things like a few code line edits in build props and stuff. I have ported 6 ROMs from my phone with nothing more than a file explorer, so on a sorta simple level, definitely possible

I want to learn to make a custom ROM, so I need all the tools with a simple interface. From your answers I suppose I don't get these features.

It's really kind of you. You're trying to help him. But it seems to me he's not following this thread anymore

I'm following it, even though I'm not constantly online. You already gave me an answer. Thank you.

Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
Go to http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html you'll need ubuntu to build, but you can still keep windows by dual booting. Hell, you might even keep ubuntu cause it's very pretty. Well, anyway like I said, I was already building CM9, but didn't know how to target it out to the Blaze.

Delete the rom zip file from your sd card for the one you don't want. Go to the development section for the new rom you want.

Okay for the sake of argument let's say your serious about this, let's call the first ROM X and the second one Y. If your running ROM X simply use something like ES File manager and delete ROM Y. If you want to run ROM Y then flash it and delete ROM X. Real simple oh and by the way read more just my two cents

I have tried porting things before, and I failed at it. If you want to try the above link is a windows porting tool. I just can't seem to get a booting port. :/

Looks like for Vibrant, which could be easier ported to our phone. Here is a link how to port from Vibrant roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099454

Need help decompiling framework.jar

I'm trying to port a rom and in order to get it to boot I need to decompile framework.jar but I have no idea how to install apktool in order to do this, so how do you do it?
BTW I'm on Ubuntu 13.04, that's probably why it's difficult.
