[Q] wtf? dialer keys - HTC One S

Just purchased a stock HTC One S and I cant seem to get the dialer keys (7) and (0) to work. Once on the voice mailbox it wont press key 7 to erase, or the 0 when inputing an area code per sei. Also, it seems that certain area of the touch screen is not responsive while trying to select options on the setting panes. Has anyone come across this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Yes I already did a thorough research but wasn't able to come up with much. Thanks

hm, maybe try a factory reset and clean the display.
if it still doesn't work I would suggest you to get your one s replaced.

I tried that. Still acting up. Is it possible it's something I could fix by rooting? Thanks

it doesn't make sense rooting your phone to solve the problem if the display is broken.
its like, trying to replace your monitor by installing an update
but you can install the recent suitable RUU for your mobile from footballs thread and if the problem still apears your display is definetly broken

I guess i'll do a search on a RUU and how it might be pertinent.

STOP don't do anything. If your phone has a hardware defect you don't want to void your warranty by unlocking the bootloader. Contact HTC or whoever sold you the phone and try to get a replacement.

Is it just the dialer or does that part of the touch screen not work anywhere else? If the actual touch sensors work elsewhere (IE: homescreen, keyboard, etc...) it is NOT a hardware problem. It is a software issue. Make sure you have the latest update installed (different versions based on carriers/countries). If the issue persists (again, if it is NOT a touch sensor problem) go ahead and root it or install a custom ROM.
EDIT: I must have skipped that sentence in your post. You obviously have a touch sensor problem. Go ahead and request a new device (if possible, depending where you bought it) or send it in to HTC. You can figure that one out on your own; we're adults here...

Menu unlock fix? DC 2.07

I've tried searching, but cannot find a fix. My phone always gets unlocked in my pocket and it's annoying. I know that another ROM has the ability to stop the phone's ability to unlock by pressing the menu button. Is there anyway to get this fixed without adding a a different kind of launcher or modifying the look of the original theme? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
It's on the front page of the forum.

Another pocket call to 911 and I'm sure I'd be in jail.
I saw that, but do you not need to remove the HTCLockScreen and have a different layout as I stated? I just wanted to know if there was a fix without modifying the layout, changing the look or removing any functionality.
And thanks for being nice about it, MrTrip.
edit: NM, misread.

[Q] Keyboard Problem - can't strike letter D on Nexus S

When I try to log in to my Gmail account (or do anything with the keyboard) on Nexus S phone I found out that the letter d on the portrait key board and the letters a through l on the landscape key board do not work. When I strike any of those letters it will display the letter next to it or above or below but not the correct letter. I tried messing with the keyboard settings, I even tried doing a full phone reset but nothing fixed it. The only thing I can think of is that when I first turned on the phone I did the OTA update to install v2.3.4. Could this be the problem. Is it possible to roll back to v2.3.3 to see if that will clear up my problem? I took it into Samsung Service and they were not sure what the problem was. They guessed it might be hardware related and wanted to crack it open but it's just a few months old and I was hesitant. I wanted to check with you Guys first. I'm stuck without the keyboard. Can't log into the Market or set up my Gmail account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I did a Format to wipe everything but that had no effect. The keyboard is still not working properly.
Sounds as if the Nexus' touchpanel is damaged. You should send it in for warranty.

[Q] Help with a problem

My daughters Huawei Ideos U8150 has a cracked screen, you can not unlock the screen because the crack is right in the middle of where you slide the unlocker.
So the phone although can be used to receive calls, can not be accessed via the screen.
She has also managed to somehow set it to not unlock the screen when receiving a call(no idea how she did this).
So I have 0 access to the phone.
I have a program Lock_2.0.apk but can not just install it with ADB because her phone of course is NOT in development mode.
In the custom AmonRA recovery, I can enable USB, and ADB will see the phone as "recovery".
But if I try to install the app that turns off the screen unloocker it says "/sbin/sh: pm: not found".
All I need to do is install that app to remove the screen locker and the phone is useable again.
Any idea how to get it into development mode with adb? Or some other way?
Thanks.
Sorry to dissapoint you, I don't know. But I want to know how's the the phone? I want one to give it to a friend, is it good?
You can buy a used phone on ebay, i saw them cheap.

Screen is broken has a crack but its still useable im not buying her another one she has to learn to take care of her stuff.
But this problem is ridiculous its the screen lock that's causing the problem because you can still use the phone if it wasn't for screen lock.
There must be some way to install the no lock program.
Well, you can try to install a VNC server and access it via WiFi. Or you can try to make a factory reset... it will reset the lockscreen
And if you still interested:

Wifi is not turned on either
The only thing I have to do is install that un lock program and it will be fine but this is easier said than done.
Well, you can try, in recovery, to push the no lock apk to the folder /system/app and reboot... may be you can be lucky enough

a simple way would be just to get the screen replaced however you could refer to http://www.xda-developers.com/android/locked-out-learn-to-crack-the-android-pattern-lock/ to help get rid of lockscreen

Dude. Don't bring dead threads back to life. This hasn't had any posting in a year - how the hell do people even find these threads to resurrect? Reported.

Generally we very much appreciate users helping each other with questions, but not when the thread hasn't had any activity in around a year. That means the person's question has either long since been answered, or they've moved on to another device, etc, etc. Thread closed.

Issues with oneplus one after resetting it

Hi. So recently with my oneplus one I have been having issues (location services not working, text messages not sending/relieving, and mobile data acting up a bit). I decided to perform a factory reset because I figured this would probably be the best way to just start over fresh and possibly resolve some of the issues. Most of the issues were fixed, however I was incredibly disappointed when I went into my settings. Half of the options that I could once modify before I reset the device were now gone! To name a few: the notification bar brightness slider, the vibrator intensity setting, the hardware button brightness, the customized screen colors, and the customized lock screen shortcuts..and that's just to name a few of the important ones. I'm wondering what's going on! Is there any way to get these settings back on my oneplus one? Has anyone else had this issue? Is it because of the cyanogen fallout? It's really frustrating. I didn't realize how much I took those amazing settings for granted. I would have just dealt with the issues if I'd known this would happen. Let me know if anyone has any idea..i would be so so appreciative.
Don't know if its the same thing but there is an advance mode in about phone in settings that allows more modifications to be made.

Are you sure that you signed in with the same email as before? Mine were all saved under the email that I used. Otherwise I'm not sure. Sorry! In the future I'd always recommend downloading Dropbox and turning on the automatic camera upload synching so if anything ever happens you'll still have them forever.

Marshamallow piece of crap

Hi,
I have a moto g 3 and updated to marshamallow.
it was the first time i ever upgraded an android phone.
little did i know the troubles this would cause.
-phone is now considerably slower.... **noticeable SLOWER!**
- I used to shake my phone and lit up the flashlight. now that works 1 out of 20 tries. its bugged.
- at lollipop i would click the volume key and it would show an option to silence the phone.
they removed that feature and moved it to the slide menu. so now i have touch screen, unlock it, slide down,
click the silence button, click ok.... thats 3 more clicks, and even more if you use an unlock passwd or pattern.
its stooopid. at lollipop it didnt matter if ur phone was locked, volume key would be accesible and silence it.
thats a 2click procedure.
/rant off
I want to downgrade to lollipop.
Can anyone point me to a how to link procedure?
i need some foolproof very in detail.procedure, im a guy with general computer knowledge, but not a die hard.
have not rooted a phone ever. but if theres a procedure for downgrading that is detailed thoroughly & foolproof id appreciate the link so I can study it.

Being a fellow who uses the phone as a phone, I immediately noticed that thing after upgrading from a CM12.1 based rom to a CM13 based one... It was one of the functions I used more during the day.
Some other things that makes me want to come back to CM12.1...? yes.
-The fact that the Contact tab inside the dialer doesn't filters out contacts I decided to not show on the Contact app.
-(Not really a MM issue, but instead related to Cyanogenmod.) No call recording (another essential feature for me)!
The phone part of our "smart" devices is becoming worse and even more worse every update . Maybe it's time to come back to a Nokia 3310 or a Qtek 9090 like in the good old days

i haven´t but i read somewhere else that a factory reset would not downgrade android version. since it also changed its firmware..
dont know if thats true or false.. did you or anyone reading this has actually done a factory reset and their android device downgraded itself? need to be sure, dont want to waste time, backing **** up, doing factory reset
only to notice it still marshmallow and then redownload and restore everything so i can use the phone and still have the problem.
thanks

I think downgrading will be a more difficult task than a factory reset. A factory reset should clear all your issues.
