When I try to log in to my Gmail account (or do anything with the keyboard) on Nexus S phone I found out that the letter d on the portrait key board and the letters a through l on the landscape key board do not work. When I strike any of those letters it will display the letter next to it or above or below but not the correct letter. I tried messing with the keyboard settings, I even tried doing a full phone reset but nothing fixed it. The only thing I can think of is that when I first turned on the phone I did the OTA update to install v2.3.4. Could this be the problem. Is it possible to roll back to v2.3.3 to see if that will clear up my problem? I took it into Samsung Service and they were not sure what the problem was. They guessed it might be hardware related and wanted to crack it open but it's just a few months old and I was hesitant. I wanted to check with you Guys first. I'm stuck without the keyboard. Can't log into the Market or set up my Gmail account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I did a Format to wipe everything but that had no effect. The keyboard is still not working properly.
Sounds as if the Nexus' touchpanel is damaged. You should send it in for warranty.

Thanks bot47, I guess that's what I will have to do. No one else is coming up with any help for me.

Hello,
I was using Mighty Rom 5 and my hardware keyboard just stopped working totally.. I did a hard reset and had the same issue.. Re-flashed the phone and its working good again, no more keyboard issues.
Now the problem is when I type in a name in the TO: feild, it won't auto populate the perons i'm trying to get to any more.
For example I would type out Der and at the bottom of my scree it would say derek s., i could click on that name and it would fill out his number. Now i have to click the to field and select the name that way.
i've tired turning on the predictive text, auto-correct, suggest new words (none of them will work even in texts).. I've messed with other options as well, nothing works.
The odd thing is I used to be able to hit FN-spacebar and get T9 menu, doesn't work anymore either. Maybe part of the new rom update.
suggestions?
On thing I noticed is that when I go to settings and personal, input options, I only have 4 options, Keyboard, block recognizer, fingerkeyb(i installed that one) and letter recognizer.. I don't have the full qwerty option or the others..
well after flashing the phone, going back to stock and trying everthing else I can think of, I found a fix.
Take a hammer, smash the phone, get the new palm.
Thats the last HTC phone I will evey buy.. I replaced my mogul 3 times, and i'm on my 4th HTC Touch Pro (all hardware keybaord issues, or this software crap).
HTC can suck my D***
I am having an odd issue with my Focus. The marketplace is stating that I have 2 updates to do (yesterday was one). When I click on the maketplace it opens up and at bottom of the screen states I have 2 update, but I am unable to click the words "2 updates" in order to install them. I can't even tell which programs they are for.
I am have a similar issues sending text messages. When I have the conversation up and type the text message, I am unable to hit the send button. I have found a work around for this... After I finish typing the message, I can click on the conversation itself and the keyboard goes away. With no keyboard showing I am able to click the send button (which is located in same location as if the keyboard was there).
Anyone heard of such an issue?

Well the weird thing is, like i said, once I minimize the keyboard I am able to click the button (in same location)
Also for some reason I was able to hit update today, and just sent a text without minimizing the keyboard... first time in like 3 weeks
I have the same issue with the Marketplace.. it's been telling me I have 6 updates for over a month now. Getting real old.

You also can't click the "6 updates" link?
Note that the current version of Marketplace has a bug that prevents you from installing updates for trial apps. However, that link should be clickable and the update process should be start normally; it only doesn't really update the trial apps.
rule no 1 for technology: if you find a weird bug, restart the device and see if it persists...
same here! i have 8 apps that just wont update. although i can press the update button they all look like they are updating but then they never do and im always left with 8. i suspect that this is because i have mainly trial version and i dont think these update, and of the free stuff that i have got all update ok!
if you want to update them, just uninstall them from the phone, then reinstall them again by finding it in the market place.

This would work, since at one time I had 3 updates to do and uninstalled many programs, and then the number changed to 1. But if you are unable to click the update button, you don't know which programs to update.
I had no trails on my phone.
for others that were having similar issues to mine, did you have the same texting issue?
yea it was more for davidebanks. have you tried restarting the phone? i think i had this at one point, and just turning the phone off and back on fixed it.

I have restarted phone plenty of time, haven't reset it thought, but as I mentioned it happened to start working again recently
lol dang. well in all honesty, with the jan update coming, it could fix the issue. if not... who knows.
This is a strange one, I have seen one or two bugs on my HD7 (garbled screen, random soft resets) but never this one.
Edit: Do all the people with this problem have a Samsung device?

Have you tried to reset the calibration for the keyboard? You can find the calibration options in the HTC input settings from the keyboard section of the settings menu. Let us know if the calibration reset and recalibration works.
Cheers!
Where can I find calibration for keyboard? I'm on a custom ROM and all i see is Language & Input--> the Android keyboard (AOSP) but no calibration.

Oups! I really have no idea if there is a calibration tool on AOSP roms.
You could try several different stuff. First, wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
Second you can go to apps manager and delete the data and cache for your keyboard.
Third, try to install another keyboard to see if it works properly.
I follow your suggestion and also installed other keyboard but still no good. I try to lock, factory reset to stock and see if it resolve.
thanks for your help.

Ok, but can you get a logcat before that? It might be helpful for other people in your situation in the future. Good luck with the reset!
forgot about the locat. next time will do.. but anyway, now it's working fine. Not sure what happened. but i do notice sometime it's freeze and if online, browser scroll itself. thanks
I've had the same issue... Sometimes when trying to swipe to unlock it won't respond /jumps around erratically. Locking and unlocking again usually fixes it. Doesn't seem to be a software thing as it did it on stock as well as CM10

Just purchased a stock HTC One S and I cant seem to get the dialer keys (7) and (0) to work. Once on the voice mailbox it wont press key 7 to erase, or the 0 when inputing an area code per sei. Also, it seems that certain area of the touch screen is not responsive while trying to select options on the setting panes. Has anyone come across this? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Yes I already did a thorough research but wasn't able to come up with much. Thanks

I tried that. Still acting up. Is it possible it's something I could fix by rooting? Thanks

it doesn't make sense rooting your phone to solve the problem if the display is broken.
its like, trying to replace your monitor by installing an update
but you can install the recent suitable RUU for your mobile from footballs thread and if the problem still apears your display is definetly broken

I guess i'll do a search on a RUU and how it might be pertinent.

STOP don't do anything. If your phone has a hardware defect you don't want to void your warranty by unlocking the bootloader. Contact HTC or whoever sold you the phone and try to get a replacement.

Is it just the dialer or does that part of the touch screen not work anywhere else? If the actual touch sensors work elsewhere (IE: homescreen, keyboard, etc...) it is NOT a hardware problem. It is a software issue. Make sure you have the latest update installed (different versions based on carriers/countries). If the issue persists (again, if it is NOT a touch sensor problem) go ahead and root it or install a custom ROM.
EDIT: I must have skipped that sentence in your post. You obviously have a touch sensor problem. Go ahead and request a new device (if possible, depending where you bought it) or send it in to HTC. You can figure that one out on your own; we're adults here...
Dear all,
I have HTC One V, it is one of the most problematic hand phone ever designed. I have many many problem with it such as below:
- Very low speed of opening the phone book and SMS page (Some times it take more than 10 to 20 minutes)
- Late reaction of key board during dialing or writing messages.
- Unlock ring in not working properly
- Hands free key during phone talk is not working
- Scroll function is not working
I am still trying to use the phone but the scrolling problem is really impossible to use. When I open a list or a menu or any screen which needs to scroll, the page is not functioning properly at all, it stops, no reaction, suddenly moves very fast and selects one item randomly and opens it or execute it. I can not use my phone and you know the scroll function is the main function in touch screen hand phones.
I have done below actions to solve the issue:
- I restarted the phone. (Does not solve the problem)
- I backed up the contact list and SMS into my Micro SD, then remove the memory card, Reset the phone to factory setting (Does not solve the problem)
- I have uninstalled all additional games and apps. Now it has only the original apps built in from HTC and Viber and WhatsApp only.
- Every few minutes I open the "Task Manager" and stop all additional apps to free the Ram but it is not helping.
- I made hard reset by turning of the phone, push the power and volume down key together and . . . ( Does not solve the problem)
- I remove the screen protector (Does not effect on the function)
The reaction of the phone during scroll function is most like it is hanging or very low speed, it seems like a software glitch. I hope I can upgrade or refresh the android to solve the issue. I dont know to check the hardware of touch screen. There is a probably issue with touch screen hardware.
If any of you have the same problem please help me and tell me what to do.
regards,
Farhad
Hi, If you have made no changes to your device (rooting, etc.) and it is under warranty, perhaps contact HTC for a replacement.
Remember that rooting your device voids the warranty.
All the best.

Yes, my guess is hardware problem.
Because that is most likely the case, rooting your phone will likely cause more problems, perhaps making the phone completely useless . With an expired warranty, you could send the phone to HTC for repair, however my suggestion would be get a new phone of your choice.
Here is some info on rooting.
Again, this is just for your information, please do not try to root a defective device.
I wish you all the best - and with that I am closing this thread.
Regards.
