No. ICS is Googles Android OS. CM9 is a modded version of it.
ics simply refers to android version 4.0. Cm9 is based off of android 4.0 aosp but has many added features and tweaks.
Just like cm7 is based off of android 2.3 (gingerbread) aosp.

I think his question is really what is the difference between the two. Which right now I don't think there is much. I think it's just about porting and getting everything working. Maybe there is some small optimizations done but nothing heavy. I think cyanogenmod is working on adding features as we speak and will most likely release a big beta with all of them implemented vs small amounts being added over time

Probably the coolest one in the works is the ability to root and unroot your phone via settings. The new music app is nice too. There's a lot being added every week. Its not complete or even close to being but it is looking awesome.

So I suppose this might be getting a little off topic but what is the point being able to root/unroot via settings?

I'll prob use the OTA debloated/tweaked ICS build that is going to be developed regardless

Anybody know how CM9 development is going so far for the G2x?
You knew this question was going to come. Now that 4.1 has been announced, when are we getting ours?
This will take a longer time for sure, as HTC is still busy to release ICS
Jellybean dev kits are supposed to be released mid july. At least that's what this source says: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/27/google-announces-android-41-jelly-bean/
But it may be a while before we get a working ROM.
Given the time it took the CM team to release CM9 RC1, I'd say 6 months!
what about this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736699
Brace yourself for a long wait
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
While ICS is quite nice, it is hard not to want the latest, greatest thing on our devices Still, at least the Nexus 7 is available to fulfil the JB goodness until it's available. That may end up replacing my Nook Color which hasn't been used in a month since it's ac adapter gave up the ghost.
HTC says they "don't yet have an announcement" for Jelly Bean on existing devices.
... I can't post a link because <10 posts, but there is an article on pocket-lint.com
That will only lead to an anemic SDK ROM. sure it will show us the cool new features, but I wouldn't expect much. I wonder how long it takes to hit AOSP

Q1 or Q2 next year would be my guess

Since i'm assuming jellybean isn't as big of a change internally as ICS was from gingerbread it'll be a shorter wait. Still I wouldn't expect anything shorter than like Oct of this year.

Actually most of the changes are internal. I think project butter is a big internal change. Although the One S is already very smooth, squeezing more performance out of the S4 is a welcomed thing

Google doesn't care
I remember reading recently that Google knows about fragmentation but isn't worried about it. Now that I'm tempted to buy a media device to have the latest and greatest software, I can see how fragmentation can actually work for Google because now more and more people will look to buy nexus devices.
the main reason i got a HTC phone is because unlike Samsung's strange choice in hardware it dosnt take 5 months to port a fast stable release from the MOD team unlike HTC
lets hope this takes off !
the one X got already a port

Hi all, How r u?
I've confused and can't decide.
I have Nokia N9-64GB, since some days, I've chance to replace it with LG Optimus 3D, which have nice 4.3 display and ext SD card.
I'm interested with ICS on O3D, but read many threads and comment that OD will NOT have ICS; coz its 512MB RAM.
What do you think about the replacement?
1. LG O3D will get ICS and there are already few Threads about it
2. I would take the O3D

Getting ICS is not 100% sure for our device no matter what LG says but there is still hope, the 3D performance is as good as you can get on a 4.3" screen. The RAM sometimes is not enough especially when you are not using custom kernel.
If you don't plan to root then don't buy it, if you plan to root it and don't mind not having 3d then consider the following phones that might do better than O3D, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Sony Xperia S if their prices are simular to the O3D in your area. If the difference is more then 100 euros (convert this on google if not native currency) then def go for the o3d
DON NOT get the O3D. LG software team really sucks [email protected] really...
i'm saving money right now for a galaxy S3 or a sony xperia s/ion
take my word for what it's worth
Lg have a great hardware. You can get realy good custom ROM here on XDA-.And your phone will be great.custom ICS rom's will kick some **** .I know some ppl hate this phone, but realy it's great!I have no issue with it.And i love it.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
Honestly, I'm not interested with 3d nor graphics, my main interest is application, internet, and some few games.
I want to get the best i can from the O3D hardware, even from official ICS or custom kernels.
but am worried about 512MB RAM in dealing with ICS, especially Nokia N9 have 1GB RAM.
this time, I trend to have O3D depending on some recommendations, and wait ICS -official or custom- .
seems O3D would get the ICS in a couple months. that's it. when other phones r running JELLY BEAN, LG still on GINGER BREAD. you get the point.
LG doesn't has a dev team. when ghost call bug cames, it took LG half year to fix it. and for jelly bean, just forget it. there wont be anything else after ics. wat do u think.
they don't have a develop team at all.╰_╯
if you'r not that into 3D video, go get a samsung would be a idea.

You guys are lucky you might get jelly bean. Apple can't bother to try to get HTC devices banned because they're not actually a threat. Even if they were, HTC would be lazy and simply remove any infringing software. Us over at the sensation forum have a nearly working jelly bean rom but we won't have front facing camera working without official HTC kernel. Is it the same for you guys?

Virtually everything is working perfectly. Camera F+B, video, (Netflix on some builds),etc. The only problems are random reboots / freezing when screen is off but those have drastically reduced recently. There are even mounting of both internal and external SD on R4ins build although torch locks up when screen is off on his build. Our community took jb and ran with it. Daily driver for sure, at least for people who know what there doing and aren't scared of a hiccup or two along the way.
Best of luck getting yours functioning properly

There is no official JB for the Skyrocket yet, but you can get Vincom's Rom AKA VinRom if you go under developement its there. Not official but its the best ROM out there yet...Fast and very good.
Well take a look at how long it took us to get ICS. I believe we had a official release back in june and the unofficial leak back in December. So if we do get a leak I don't think we'll see one till mid 2013. Also keep in mind that the S3 is out so S2's are now obsolete.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
R4INS' AOKP Jellybean Sept-5 build (with InstigatorX kernel, of course) is definitely the most stable and feature-packed variety of Jellybean available on the Skyrocket right now. I'd be surprised to ever see an official leaked for this device because the S3 replaced the relevance of the entire S2 line.
There are conflicting reports. This one from SamMobile seems to both confirm and leave it in doubt.
Ok, the insiders of SamMobile reported to us that all high-end Galaxy devices will get the Jelly Bean update.
In other words, the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy S III.
When we asked Samsung Benelux about this they told us that they couldn’t tell us anything about the updates.

I disagree. As long as we have good, dedicated developers, the SR is not obsolete. There is little an S3 can do that a SR cannot. Our SR's even have an advantage in some areas over the S3, not the least of which is a long, strong history of quality development. Some users prefer the shape and physical build-quality of the SR over the S3, too.
Obsolete? Skyrockets, especially rooted and modded ones, are way beyond most if the smartphone market.

Hi boys, and girls
As my 2 year contract on my carrier, is getting to the finish line, i want to get something new. (I will keep my small litle muscle phone O1 as a second phone )
At the first i wanted the galaxy nexus, because of the great software support, and the developement, in our xda forum.
Then suddenly i saw the new Optimus 4x, but, there is one but. There is no developement in here, because of locked bootloader
I really don`t know what to take. Thought about the Xperia S, but nope.
The phones what i need to choose from , are - 1. Galaxy nexus
2. Optimus 4x
Maybe Acro S ?
Maybe some other suggestions?
Maybe the new LG Nexus? It'll be $399 on Google Store unsubsidized according to rumors.

I will stick to nexus device for fastest OS update

Yeah. I think I'd go for the new nexus phone. Just wait for a lil while
I think getting a new LG phone is a waste, Anything other than a galaxy nexus is.
The new android OS? Availably from day 1.
Every app is tested on that first, which means closer to no bugs.
I think that i will take Galaxy Nexus. Just because of software support, developement. The performance is also o.k No need for 4 cores.
