[Q] Jelly Bean Lockscreen Circle Notifications? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been doing some searching around the web and haven't been able to find a fix for this yet. I flashed the latest Jelly Bean leak last night and noticed that the circle notifications on the lockscreen are gone (the ones for missed calls/new messages). I saw a fix for the Galaxy Note II that involved changing a file name and that would bring those back. Is there any way to bring them back on the S3?

Simple fix. You need a File Explorer app that has Root permissions, access to Root directory, and can mount System files as writable (I recommend ES File Explorer).
In you file explorer, navigate to "/system/csc/" and rename "customer xml" to "customer xml.bak".
Restart your phone. The Lock icon and "verizon wireless" text will be gone from your lockscreen, and the bubble notifications will be back.

I've tried that using CleanRom5 and it didn't work for me :-/

Did you restart your device afterwards? It is working just fine for me right now on CleanRom5.

I'm having the problem too. I tried the fix posted above with no luck after restart.

I'm not sure what you guys are doing, but this solution definitely works and has been done by hundreds of people successfully.
My guess is that you don't have the proper root permissions to change the file name (it's a system file). Do it using ES File Explorer. Go into the ES File Explorer settings, go into the Root Settings, and check all of the boxes. Then rename the file. It works on CleanRom 5, I am 100% positive of that.
I have no yet flashed CleanRom5.5, but I am 99% positive this same solution will work on that as well.

I've used root explorer in ROM toolbox and ES both. I've followed the steps outlined above, doublechecked that the rename took and rebooted several times. And this is the results.

Your using aosp msg app. Or gosms. I'm unsure but the looks of your screen shot that's the problem. You have to be using the tw mms app. Hope that helps

Yes, the bubble notifications ONLY work with the TouchWIZ messaging and dialer apps.

Just did this on stock k3. Thanks!

Ahh... I thought since I replaced the SecMms apk that it would still work.

I was able to do that fix, but every time I unlock the phone, it shows the hint "swipe this notification to see new messages" or whatever. I changed it back because that was annoying me, but it just kept coming back. If anyone knows a fix, let me know. I miss my bubble notifications.

I'm glad you mentioned this, because it was happening to me too. Go into Application Manager>All Apps and find the app called "Help". Click "Disable". You will only have to to do this once. Only downside is that you will lose all of these little How-To dialogues, not just the one for the bubble notifications, so make sure you know how to use all your apps before you disable this (you can always turn it back on if you need it later). Note: the "How to use motions" guides are separate and will still function even with Help disabled.

Thanks for the tip. it worked for me. Running Clean Rom 5.5.1

If people are still having trouble getting this to work, just add .bak to the end, leave the.xml there.

Anyone using Visidon Applock- face recongnition locking app

Anyone using Visidon Applock- face recongnition locking app on their charge. I had a Nexus S 4g and it worked great, but because of signal issues, I went back to Verizon. Went with the Charge. I have rooted the charge and am running gingerbread, but the apps market will not let me download this program. I think current version is 1.5 and should work just fine on my Charge...if I can get the download. What you do is take a picture of your face. Then you can use it to unlock either the phone, or apps on the phone by showing the phone your face. Works great.
Anyone able to provide me with the apk ver 1.5? I found and downloaded ver 1.1 but it is missing a signature file.
Thanks
There is a market fix in one of the sections here, after you install and run it, it will show up in the market. I have the file but am at work right now and can't seem to find the thread for it. When I get home I will upload the file for you if you havn't found the market fix. I have already installed fix on my phone and looked in the market for this file and it is there and works with this phone.

I will look for the market fix...not sure what I am looking for...but I will search. Thanks for the reply. And yes, the market fix would be the best solution...as it will allow me to download other GB apps.
Thanks Again,
I think I found it. Is it called build.prop.
You have to edit the file to make it look like a Nexus S....which makes sense to me...because that is what I had before and it worked.

no, the file I am talking about does it all automatically, you have to install this app, run the fix from in the app, restart from w/in the app, then when it powers on you can erase the app if you want to. This will enable all apps in the marketplace.

Thanks...but too late....LOL....
I found the file build.prop which I would guess is the manual way to adjust what your fix does. I went into root explorer and renamed the original file to old...then like a dumb ass...turned off the phone before I had pushed the new file to the system folder. Anyway...I just re-flashed GBE....no big deal. and will take a look at your "fix" now.
Thanks Again.
lesson...don't drink and work on your charge...it's a bad combination.

This is what I found and what I ended up doing. Download the file and then replace build.prop in /system folder.
I did install your fix.apk...got an error on download via qr....but got the file and used adb to install. Not sure which one worked....
...edit....
just un- installed your fix.apk. then tried to install visidon again....all worked well. So I am pretty sure this manual mod is the same. Yours is much easier.

(Q) not able to install downloaded apks

Hey everyone, I've had this problem before but I have gotten around it by flashing my Rom over again. I'm getting really tired of doing that so thought I would bring it to the table.
I get to the screen where there is the install or cancel button and it shows the permissions. I can click the cancel button but not the install button. Before anyone asks, unknown sources is checked, you can't get to that screen without it.
Anyone had this issue or know had to solve it?

I wasn't saying to use adb. What I meant was: use a file explorer to move the .apk's into the system/app folder. Then long press on each apk, click properties / permissions and make sure the permissions are Rw-r--r--. If they are not then edit as need be. Reboot your phone. Profit

Its an app doing it. On my atrix it was an app to force the lights on on the keys. Others have said it has to do with some dimmer type setting in an app. Another person had this problem with root toolbox I believe. If you have any of those type apps messing with the backlight or keys lights, I suggest removing one by one to see if it fixes.

They way I install these are
1) name the app you're replacing ie. MMS.apk to MMS.apk.bak , also do the same for the matching odex file
2) copy the inverted app to system/ app and change permissions to rw-r-r
3) reboot
Note: may not work with jcases method of gaining root, my boot loader is unlocked

I haven't even begun to try any ones that require recovery.. just rooted my X and can't quite figure out to get into recovery easily.. is it as as simple as using Quick Boot? anyway to tell if it's in recovery without ADB?

I deleted it with an app like titanium backup. After that you just need to reboot your phone and installed the inverted APK and all is well.
This method works for just about all the system apps. Just remember to Make a backup before you start cutting away.

yep Email didn't work.
Unfortunately I stopped using Blackout apps because of a bug. Every time I would install any Blackout apps, my Hangouts would develop a weird scrolling bug (even if I didn't install blackout hangouts at all). On normal Hangouts when you type a message and send it, it should scroll to the very bottom. But when mine was bugged, it never scrolled after I typed a message, unless someone replied. I could scroll manually but still, drove me nuts. Reinstalling hangouts and it's lib dependance didn't fix it. Reverting blackout apps didn't fix it either. Tried wiping cache, dalvik, wiping hangouts data, nothing. I had to do RSD Lite complete clean flash to make it work properly again.
I really wish I could have them on, if it weren't for the hangouts bug.

So, is there any way to do this on a verizon one (locked bootloader)? In my attempt to install the blacked out mms, I tried flashing the zip from stock recovery, but it failed to verify. Tried installing the Mms.apk from the zip via adb and pm, and it said INSTALL_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES
so then I signed it with a key as per android doc, and then I got INSTALL_FAILED_UID_CHANGED. so i figured out it was because the /data/data/com.android.mms was still hanging around. removed that, tried again and got INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT. That's where i stopped.
I'm starting to think i'll have to wait till there's safestrap for moto x. If not then let me know what i need to do!

Can you explain what you mean by "manually install it" ? If you mean clicking the apk file and and hitting install, that doesn't work for me. from Root Browser, with system mounted as read write, it just says "App did not install"
If I just copy to /system/app and change permissions, it doesn't actually install it. it's not listed as an app in my applications.
I did figure out that I can restore the titanium backup by mounting /system as read write and restoring the backup, so i have my messaging back, just really want to get blacked out working!
EDIT: another thing I tried was replacing the apk file in the titanium backup with the blacked out apk. That also did not work. Titanium backup just sits there spinning with "restoring app"

Okay, tried your way. It doesn't matter whether I remove Mms.apk, rename it to Mms.apk.bak, or straight overwrite it with the other. Every time the original Mms.apk leaves the /system/app folder, it is removed from the list of installed apps. The Messaging app literally disappears off the screen.

[Q] How can I remove OTA update notification?

Hi guys!
Is there a way to remove the annoying notification of the 4.4.3 update?
I have no problems with the update itself, but I'm using a Custom ROM (CM11).
I've tried disabling notifications for Google Services Framework and com.lge.update and freezing com.lge.update with Titanium.
None of these worked...
Do you guys now a way to disable it?
Thanks in advance

I'm in the same boat... running CM11 M6. I got an error notification for the 4.4.3 update last night stating that it couldn't download (I'm assuming because of running CM). Today at lunch I was having problems with LTE connectivity so I rebooted and it worked then. Found out a few hours later that after I rebooted my phone used over 500MB of data even though I wasn't using it and my battery drained down quite a bit as well.
My cell provider shows I've used that much data but my phone doesn't. My guess is that it's trying to constantly download the update? Yet I can't find any way to turn this off.
Thanks for any help you guys can give!

Navigate: /system/etc/security
Rename: "otacerts.zip" to "otacerts.zip.bak
Reboot.

Check /data/fota or /cache/fota for the downloaded update, rename folder (+otacerts.zip), reboot again. Fixed now? This method used to work. Maybe it no longer does.

Both folders show that they are empty.

Whatever file explorer you are using you may have to allow it to see "hidden files" or grant root access or possibly both.
I'm having the same issue as well, except I didn't download the update. I've tried renaming the cert to .bak, rebooted, and no go. Then I took the whole damn cert file and moved it to my downloads folder, cleared Google system framework data, and rebooted. It's been about 5 minutes with no pop up, but I'm not holding my breath.
I've also heard that changing a line in your build.prop tricks the updater into thinking you already have 4.4.3, but I don't what what it is that needs to be changed...

I don't even see these folders.
I have hidden files enabled in Solid Explorer :/
I've tried everything posted here, rebooted around 5 times, but it's still showing up.
Are you guys sure that otacerts.zip is responsible for the upfate message?
I even tried moving it into my download folder (after the .bak method doesn't worked), but I still have the notification...
Which is the system app, that searches for updates? I thought it's com.lge.update, but it seems that it's not.
We should try to freeze / uninstall that with Titanium. :/
You can also use ongoing system notification blocker to get rid of the update constantly being shown.
Thanks guys I got it. After renaming the above mentioned folder I cleared Google framework and the notification is gone.

I'm not sure why anyone has stated this and I realize that the problem has already been solved, but this can easily be fixed using Developer Options in CM11
1) Go to settings> about phone
2) Scroll all the way down to build number and repeatedly tap it until it says something along the lines of "You are now a developer"
3) Go back to settings then go to developer options
4) A little less than halfway down is an option called 'Development shortcut'. Tick that box
Now, you can get rid of any pesky notification that can't be swiped away. Simply tap and hold it, then select 'Force close'. This works with any apps running in the background by doing the same thing from the app switcher. Hope this helps!
I just cleared data on Google services framework and haven't had the notification popup yet. Have rebooted a couple times, so far so good. Been about 6hours.

Nvm, about 12 hours in it popped back up

A few days ago I accidentally got rid of it by tapping the download button for no reason (I'm on a custom ROM), then rebooting right after. Hasn't come up since LOL.
Dude,
That sucks! When I had my Galaxy S3...the update notification made me very mad. Did you try the the other way of doing it (mentioned in the earlier of this forum)?

In your build.prop find the ro.build.fingerprint line. Change it to this:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/hammerhead/hammerhead:4.4.3/KTU84M/1158763:user/release-keys

I cleared the framework cache and data and it gives me the error where play store cant load, so then i have to go delete my google accounts and reinput them. And then the notification comes back after 12 hrs or so.
I followed the steps on this other related thread and it worked for me.

Disable working
Above rename method did not work for me on rooted Nexus 10. I followed tutorial which worked at:
