i am on ics and want to stay on ics for personsl reasons, i am rooted, is there registry files or files on the tablet that i can modify to remove the notfication? i did a quick google search but the solution was for phones (remove the battery) you can't remove battery on a tablet so i have to use something else to remove the notfication.
it installed the jellybean update to memory (400mb) so i want to remove those files too, i hope someone can help me in this situation!

To remove the notification go to settings/application manager/all/scroll down to software update and disable it.

If you have ES File explorer and have all the root permissions checked for the app,I think you could do a search for it if you know what it was called?Or maybe an advanced search in ESF by date?

How do you know it even downloaded? If it downloaded I think it would apply the update immediately.Check in your about settings maybe it is already running the update.OTA updates won't delete your settings or apps or anything like that.

no, it never installed only downloaded because it prompt me to install the update then gave me a option to remind later and then stayed in my notification bar.
Hopefully someone will be able to figure it out. Afraid I'm out of suggestions.

Try the DiskUsage app - it may show you where your 400Mb update is hiding.

I used titanium backup. I can't remeber the specific name but it was def along the lines of software package update or upgrade. This was back when I had that 75 mb update that kept annoying me to install every 3 hours.

that didn't work, but i did use a program called file explorer fx and went into this folder here:
root/cache/fota
the file is called "update.zip" long pressed on the file and selected details, it was 400mb, deleted it after that.

You don't install this like a regular app. Use root manager and push to system>apps. Make sure to adjust permissions.

yea when I changed a main rom app from system/app I went into titanium backup.1)backup system app just in case. there usually in red. 2)I wrote the name exactly like it says on system file- onto the app i am going to replace that I stored on sd card from computer.3)On Titanium I uninstalled app. 4) Paste sd app in system/app folder. Installed. Opened backup in Titanium again so I don't loose it.( Just so you know I did this with a google search widget in system app. I wanted a transparent search. Hope this helps someone

Here's a new black app that's worth trying out, no grey and looks killer:
Black Google Mobile by bGoog

Look for an app called custom ICS search, it allows you to create a widget go any color you want.

Yep, I I accidentally the whole thing. I clicked the wrong button in TIBU.
Anyways, I got the phone yesterday, updated it to 2.3.6, and rooted it, but otherwise left it alone. I just rooted so I could restore my apps from my previous phone with TIBU. I did not restore data. Today, I was trying to fix an issue I was having with accounts and sync, and I meant to freeze it, but I hit uninstall and wasn't paying attention to the prompts, so it uninstalled it. It was backed up, but I can't re-install it. I even found the app's .apk in system/app folder, and tried to re-install it but it will not, it just tries for like a second and then says "Not installed". The option is now missing from my settings menu.
I would really like a way to fix it without having to wipe and re-install the OS, but if I have to I can.
nb4 "did you search?" yes, I did. I couldn't find anything that helped.
Thanks in advance, everyone.
Download a rom for your phone thats2.3.6 and unzip it. Go into system/app and take the apk that u need. Push it to your system/app folder with root explore. Change permissions to the ones on the pic and reboot and u should be good.

Edit: DERP, big time derp, forgot to reboot. one minute.
Edit 2: changed permissions, rebooted, still would not install.

I did that, but the Applications and Sync option is not there.
If I did a recovery update to 2.3.6 again, would that fix it perhaps? or will it not let me update it that way since it's already on 2.3.6?

Actually, I did just that, and it fixed it! sigh. I wish I had thought of that right away. Now I'm back to my original problem that I was trying to fix, though. When i try to add my facebook account in accounts and sync, I click on add account, select the facebook icon, and it just goes back to the previous page without doing anything.
Oh well. At least I got the big problem fixed, thank you for helping.

reflash whatever rom you currently have, but don't wipe the data/factory reset. Since the file you need is in the system folder it'll rewrite.

I just ran the 2.3.6 update again. It fixed it, but it turns out that the problem I was trying to fix in the first place which led me to uninstall the app was not a problem at all, it was google locking out facebook sync on nexus S meh, whatever. I only did it for the pictures anyways. Thanks though!
Well I did.. But those two apps (Google play books and google play movies) won't STAY disabled! Every morning when I wake up they have either already updated, or are complaining they need to update, and when I go to manage apps, they are no longer disabled! 5th time now. Options?
Finally there's someone else with this problem!
I sent an email to HTC about it telling them it must be a problem with this latest 2.20 update since I didn't have the problem before.

i googled around and found to disable some other google thing.. what was it. google partner app or something (for me it was the app right above these two offenders) will report back if this fixes it

I also recommend just deleting the apk files for these two apps from /system/app, or /data/app. Also, delete the odex file if it exists too. They shouldn't cause you any problems after they're dead

Thought you all might want to know....just noticed this...you can NOW remove apps listed in your google play store under 'my apps'! In other words say you installed an app for like 5 seconds to see what its like but didn't like it...well now instead of it still being in your 'my apps' you can remove it from the list!

OK, thanks for the info. b4 I do anything, lets say, here I am, newbee. When I go into recovery mode and choose install from SD, when the file is accessed and highlighted, it warns you that it cannot be undone. I'm also afraid to go thru because I am running the Stock Gingerbread 2.3.6, Kernel version 2.6.35.11. This is Samsung's AT&T SGH-I717 Galaxy Note. I don't have any intention of bricking it. There are some threads that says works only on ICS. I don't want ICS, been there, done that, its memory hog. Thanks.

It isn't a zip its an APK, so you don't need to do any fancy recovery mode stuff.
Download the apk to your SD card.
Uninstall the playstore from Settings>manage apps>all.
Navigate to the apk you downloaded using a file explorer then install the apk.
Thats it you are done. Pretty much no risk of bricking your phone.
Alternatively, If you are really worried about messing up somehow you may be able to force an official update of the playstore by clearing the playstore cache & clearing data. Sometimes that triggers an update
