[Q] How can I remove OTA update notification? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
Is there a way to remove the annoying notification of the 4.4.3 update?
I have no problems with the update itself, but I'm using a Custom ROM (CM11).
I've tried disabling notifications for Google Services Framework and com.lge.update and freezing com.lge.update with Titanium.
None of these worked...
Do you guys now a way to disable it?
Thanks in advance

I'm in the same boat... running CM11 M6. I got an error notification for the 4.4.3 update last night stating that it couldn't download (I'm assuming because of running CM). Today at lunch I was having problems with LTE connectivity so I rebooted and it worked then. Found out a few hours later that after I rebooted my phone used over 500MB of data even though I wasn't using it and my battery drained down quite a bit as well.
My cell provider shows I've used that much data but my phone doesn't. My guess is that it's trying to constantly download the update? Yet I can't find any way to turn this off.
Thanks for any help you guys can give!

Check /data/fota or /cache/fota for the downloaded update, rename folder (+otacerts.zip), reboot again. Fixed now? This method used to work. Maybe it no longer does.

Whatever file explorer you are using you may have to allow it to see "hidden files" or grant root access or possibly both.

I'm having the same issue as well, except I didn't download the update. I've tried renaming the cert to .bak, rebooted, and no go. Then I took the whole damn cert file and moved it to my downloads folder, cleared Google system framework data, and rebooted. It's been about 5 minutes with no pop up, but I'm not holding my breath.
I've also heard that changing a line in your build.prop tricks the updater into thinking you already have 4.4.3, but I don't what what it is that needs to be changed...

I don't even see these folders.
I have hidden files enabled in Solid Explorer :/
I've tried everything posted here, rebooted around 5 times, but it's still showing up.
Are you guys sure that otacerts.zip is responsible for the upfate message?
I even tried moving it into my download folder (after the .bak method doesn't worked), but I still have the notification...
Which is the system app, that searches for updates? I thought it's com.lge.update, but it seems that it's not.
We should try to freeze / uninstall that with Titanium. :/

You can also use ongoing system notification blocker to get rid of the update constantly being shown.

Thanks guys I got it. After renaming the above mentioned folder I cleared Google framework and the notification is gone.

I'm not sure why anyone has stated this and I realize that the problem has already been solved, but this can easily be fixed using Developer Options in CM11
1) Go to settings> about phone
2) Scroll all the way down to build number and repeatedly tap it until it says something along the lines of "You are now a developer"
3) Go back to settings then go to developer options
4) A little less than halfway down is an option called 'Development shortcut'. Tick that box
Now, you can get rid of any pesky notification that can't be swiped away. Simply tap and hold it, then select 'Force close'. This works with any apps running in the background by doing the same thing from the app switcher. Hope this helps!

I just cleared data on Google services framework and haven't had the notification popup yet. Have rebooted a couple times, so far so good. Been about 6hours.

Nvm, about 12 hours in it popped back up

A few days ago I accidentally got rid of it by tapping the download button for no reason (I'm on a custom ROM), then rebooting right after. Hasn't come up since LOL.

Dude,
That sucks! When I had my Galaxy S3...the update notification made me very mad. Did you try the the other way of doing it (mentioned in the earlier of this forum)?

In your build.prop find the ro.build.fingerprint line. Change it to this:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/hammerhead/hammerhead:4.4.3/KTU84M/1158763:user/release-keys

I cleared the framework cache and data and it gives me the error where play store cant load, so then i have to go delete my google accounts and reinput them. And then the notification comes back after 12 hrs or so.

I followed the steps on this other related thread and it worked for me.

I'm not sure if the OP is a troll, or just stupid... How hard is it to give ACCURATE information on what you are trying to do.
Trolled. Perhaps.
Troll or not , I have had this issue when trying to update apps. I haven't really figured out what's causing apps not to load. I get "app not installed, no usb or SD card found".
Ill be vague just like the op. Here's what you do clear cache and defaults on the market.

Yeah, I've had the same problem, but usually just trying to update the app again works (at least, for me).

I get it when the download interrupts and the file is corrupted. So it can't install. I usually just redownload and its fine.
Try unmounting ur SD card, then installing. I had a problem awhile back with specific apps and that fixed it.

I am having the same problem and it is driving me insane. I have cleared cache in the market. I have rebooted, reflashed, reset to factory, Took out the SD card, put it back in, unmounted it, booted without it.
It doesn't matter what rom I flashed as I have tried several. I just restored my phone with CWM to a backup I made right after I first rooted and the market still doesn't work.
Are you rooted?? Its most likely a bad previous install that needs to be removed first which can be quite troubling because some show that they aren't installed when in actuality they are just not properly. IF YOU ARE ROOTED try using Titanium Backup Root to remove the bad install.

Possibly the ROM's included the app but have a bad install inside the ROM. I seen this issue with a couple apps specifically FLASH PLAYER. Which app are you having issues with?? When in Titanium Backup go to the Backup/Restore section and it should show all of your installed applications..scroll to see if the application you are trying to install is on the list...if so uninstall it. If this doesn't work its possible there is a previous apk file on your phone of this app which is corrupting the download which can be removed with an app like "ROOT EXPLORER" unfortunately it costs money. To do that you would venture into the system/app folder and delete the apk file if in fact there is one in there. To check to see if there is one most file explorers will allow you to go into these folders but you cannot access anything.

I have Root Explorer. Thanks. seems this is a common problem after searching google. No know solution as everyone has got theirs to work doing something different. I have not made any backups with Titanium as the roms I have used auto re-installed everything. I am wondering if it has something to do with that. Any time I flash a rom now, it says "starting download" for all my apps in the market. They never start though.
it's working now. not sure what I did though. I wiped everything and flashed BAMF remix (what I was using originally) and when I went through the setup I did everything like I did before. Only thing I changed when swapping roms was I would not set up my HTC account in the setup.
I'm not rooted (yet!) and I've been having the same problem with the market for the last two days. Probably half the apps I bought/downloaded hung on authorizing. When finally authorized it took quite a while to download and show under my apps. One took almost an hour to show up. Email notifications were also delayed. Tried clearing the cache but that didn't help...

Hi, I'm new here and I this is my first droid, so i need some help. I have done an extensive search and looks like I'm the only one with this problem.
I've rooted my g2x (2.3.3), etc, installed the notification led, change permissions to rw-rw-rw (sys/devices/plataform/star_touch_led/wled), so far so good. But when I reboot (turn off/turn on) the phone my permissions get back to rw-rw-r. So every time I turn on the phone I have to change it manually.
What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something? Phone problem?

Well for one, when you install the app there's no need to change its permission like that. Maybe that's why it switches back after a reboot..

That's on Froyo.
On gingerbread, this app doesn't work that way. If I dont change the permissions it will never work. It's like when I turnoff/turn on the phone the permissions get back to "factory data reset".
Anyone with the same problem?

Do you have the latest version from the Market. It detects whether or not the file is readable and asks you if it can make changes, and then gets superuser permissions. It must set the file settings every time the phone boots. If you do have the latest version try going into the program interface itself and see if there are options for this. If you cannot find them, simply uninstall the program (delete its data first) and then reinstall it. The first time you run it the program should go through whatever it needs to do to get su permissions, etc. You must be rooted on GB for this app to work.
I am rooted, I know how to use that apparently but fir some reason it doesn't detect anymore. But I got a modified version from the Dev and it skips the detection part. The dev said he figured out why it was doing it. Might be an update or something ..

Write Protection Off Issue - Bootloader Unlocked

So I've got a Droid Maxx non dev edition but was lucky enough to unlock my bootloader. Just today I used RSD Lite to go back to 4.2.2 stock, then reinstalled TWRP and re-rooted.
For some reason, all the bloat I remove with titanium keeps reinstalling itself and it's driving me nuts. I checked my write protection status and it still returns code 0, but the device is acting like write protection is back on.
Anyone have any ideas?

Yes I know exactly what it is. My bootloader is still unlocked and the ADB Shell command to check write protection status still comes back as a 0. The only way to get back to 4.2.2 is to use the FXZ or use fastboot commands, and since the fastboot commands weren't working, I went the FXZ route.
I'm not questioning why the bloat came back...I'm asking why I can't get rid of it now. Try reading before replying next time.
As stated above, I'm now trying to remove bloat and it keeps re-downloading on its own. I remember when I went to 4.4 with slapmymoto I had to boot into "recovery" and then remove the bloat, and that would work, but I have custom recovery on an unlocked bootloader now so I am not sure if there's something I'm missing.
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I did read and no where did it say you did an fxz and then tried to remove the bloat. If you want help be more specific in what steps you took and the order you did them.

Just an FYI, when I get home later I am going to try flashing back to the stock recovery from the 4.2.2 fxz, then seeing if it boots in "recovery" mode. I remember doing that when first rooting and upgrading to 4.4 and needing to be booted to "recovery" to have deleted bloat stay where it belongs...deleted.

Alright now I'm begging for some help here.
I'm rooted, unlocked bootloader, and WP off (confirmed again), and I cannot use Titanium to uninstall IMDB after running the FXZ 4.2.2 with the camera update. I confirm again, I am still rooted, my bootloader is still unlocked, and I still have WP off (status 0).
Can anyone else please shed some light on this? Why on earth would I not be able to uninstall anything while rooted, unlocked, and WP off????!!!!!
Found some of the APKs in system/vendor, deleted them, then used Titanium to uninstall, and it seems to be sticking. What a pain in the a$$ that was.

I've used Titanium on my last two phones - not this one - but it's ability to freeze and uninstall apps was never too great for me. It's a lot easier to delete the apps (or rename them with a .bak at the end of the apk and odex files) using Root Explorer.

Yea I can't remember if I had to do that when I initially rooted, but it seems to be sticking. At one point today I had a notification that IMDB had been scanned, which was one of the apps giving me a headache, but it's still deleted so I'm crossing my fingers that it sticks.
I actually had to delete the APKs, reboot, then use titanium to uninstall. Even after using root Explorer to delete and rebooting, the apps were still in the drawer, but titanium permanently removed them.

I'm assuming that the imdb app was updated from the play store before you delete it. Updates to built in apps go to the data partition - they don't overwrite the system partition copy, so that's why it was still around. You probably could have gone into settings / apps, find imdb and tap it, uninstall updates. Then deleting the app from system would have made it disappear from the app drawer.

Actually the "Integrate updates into System ROM" moves the updated app to system and thus clearing the data partition space, which is a good thing for phone with no sd slot. BUT, the problem is sometimes the app will repeatedly gets FC. Happened with Google Keyboard. I later found out a workaround though.
I recommend to first convert it (and all other updated via play sys apps) to USER APP first, then close Titanium and reopen it to "convert it to system app". This takes some more time, but there will be NO force closes. Believe me, this is working great.
Thanks...

[Q] Cant login to my google account?

Hello guys
So Im running on latest CM11 Snapshot but even with re-installed gapps I still cant login to my google account.
Gapps were working ok about 2 weeks ago until Play Store started force closing so I tried clearing caches and re-installing gapps but I ended up with this problem
Looks like its not even trying to connect to google servers because it immediately pops up a screen saying that I cant establish a connection to google servers when I press login.
Im connected to my home wifi.
Im trying to attempt this fix but I cant find any root text editor that would open the hosts without getting stuck or refusing to save the file. Im still properly rooted...
Any suggestions guys?
