Hello, I am looking for an android app that when i connect to my home wifi it looks for a folder on my computer and syncs whatever is in it onto a folder in my SD card. Any good recommendations?
Its not 100% exactly what you described, but have you tried Dropbox? Syncs a folder on your computer with the service, and you can sync that with the dropbox app on your phone.

You're basically describing Dropbox. As long as you have a data connection you can access anything in the folder and view/download straight to your phone. I keep all my root stuff in Dropbox so I don't need to keep it on sd card. That way anything I need, I downoad, use, and delete. Plus, it allows me to search and download roms while at work and then when I get home they automatically update to my home computer for flashing.
Click the referral link in my sig and we both get an extra 500mb of space (I have an edu email address). You have to install the desktop application to get your referral credit though.
EDIT - REFERRAL LINK
Hey thank you for the replys so far. I do have drop box and I do love it! But I am looking for that one extra step at the end. What I don't like about drop box is I have to then manually download the files from it to my phone. Basically want once I connect to my home wifi it reaches out to my pc and syncs with a folder on it to a folder on my sd automatically. I don't mind if I have to setup a share or file server on my pc.

Post if you find a good app, I'm sure it's doable. Would probably operate much like RemoteDroid does for the mouse. Love that app!
DUDE - found this earlier today but haven't clicked cuz dude has ONE POST and I'm not convinced it isn't a virus. Looked it up on www.SiteAdvisor.com and there is no record. I'm at work so not feeling brave, but if you are, then go nuts.

There's also Awesome Drop, but it's only computer to phone, not the other way around. Still pretty awesome.

I have kinda found what i was looking for in Android Manager Wifi. here is a link:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/android-manager-wifi/com.mobileaction.AmAgent
It has many options, one being able to select a folder on ur computer and one on your SD card for them to sync up automatically. Testing out to see how REALLY automated the whole process is. But none the less this is a great app for many things it seems. People should definitely check it out!
Didn't Double Twist just implement that? Need the "pay" version ($.99), but it has something called Air Synch. Look into this and let me know if it is what you want.

I was under the impression it only works with music files but I'll definitely check it out

Great app (I beta tested it....) but definitely not automatic.

Checked out Double Twist Air Sync and its not bad. But seems to only do music, videos, pics and playlist syncing. I need it to be able to do any kind of file/folder. But for multimedia people out there its something to check out.
Syncables is a broader sync solution than Double Twist

I've read similar critiques of Double Twist. I prefer Syncables through and through - and it think that's more of what you're looking for. Syncables will sync any type of folder, media file, spreadsheet, email, and even browser bookmark. It also syncs between Macs and PCs and smartphones like Droid and BlackBerries.
It has a wider suite of sync/backup/share products than the more niche Double Twist product...oh, and it has wireless sync capability using WiFi, as well.
I am actually writing an app that does exactly what you want. It's not done but the functionality is there to sync a folder (with no PC client needed). If you want to help me test it you can PM me with an email address to send you the APK.
Yea i will check it out. Sent you a PM
Just a random idea but is there an app that works with dropbox and automatically downloads changes to it to your SD card? Seems like that would also be sweet for alot of people.

I'd like to know if there is an application for setting up backup on the sd syncronized with a cloud service.

I'm using that program (foldersync) and it looks very stable and realiable.
After trying some others, I'm sticking with it.
Until I find something even more powerful, that is ;-)
Hi all, this is my first post to XDA forums, I've been a lurker for a while now but I can't seem to find the help I need so I decided to post.
I recently got my Nexus 5 coming from a Nexus S, and I've been trying to migrate all my photos and videos (~700 files) taken on my N2 to my N5 but no matter what methods I've tried I cannot seem to preserve the date that the photos and videos were taken, leading to a jumbled gallery on my N5.
I've tried using copying through USB (both dragging and dropping from the N2 into the N5, and copying onto the computer (preserves date modified/taken) then onto the N5), WiFi transfer apps, Bluetooth and LocalSync. I'm not proficient enough to experiment with adb so I haven't tried that yet.
My N2 is rooted and running CyanogenMod 9.0.0 and my N5 is rooted but running stock KitKat 4.4.2 and I am running Windows 7 64-bit, if any of this helps.
Any help would be appreciated!

How about uploading everything to the cloud and then downloading to the N5? Although, if all your stuff is in the cloud, you don't really need it on the phone.

I just tried using box storage, and it still doesn't preserve the metadata and instead changed the date modified on my N5 to sometime in 1970... :\
I'd prefer it on the phone itself so I can access it offline as I usually have my mobile data turned off (small data allowance) and am not often in range of a wifi signal

Ah, in that case, my idea wouldn't work.
So, if I understand correctly, you're having no trouble transferring the files, it's just that the metadata isn't preserved?

This is a long shot, but maybe you can import them into a PC program that preserves metadata, and then export them to the phone. Maybe Windows Live Photo Gallery, for example.

Windows Live Photo Gallery doesn't seem to have an export to device function, only sharing to facebook and other social networks :\
Any other free PC programs you might know about?

Hi,
I am tired and fed up and don't know what to do.
Coming to point, I am having problem playing avi file on my phone.
I love to watch movies & TV series on my phone, but after Lollypop update, I can't play any avi files on my phone.
Its not that the avi file is not playing but the video quality is in slow motion and pixels dis arrangements, laggy too. I don't know how to explain.
I have tried vlc, mx player, dice player and every video player but still no player can play it correctly.
Other formats like mkv is playing awesome with no problems.
I am just a normal user with not even once done anything with my phone like boot unlock, rooting and all other tweaks you guys do. I just update my phone whenever there is a update from Google.
Please help someone.
Well my friend, a factory reset is always recommended.
Factory reset will delete all my data right?
I don't know how to backup everything.

Factory reset will wipe your device. Copy all your pics, music, etc to your pc. You should enable usb debugging in developer options if you haven't already done so. Then connect your device to your pc via usb cable and copy and paste. Since you aren't rooted or anything you'll have to reset up all your apps.

Backing up your pics and music and such is as easy as copying and pasting. For apps, you can try Helium. I've never used it but a lot of people like it.

Well your contacts *should* be backed up to gmail. And for SMS I use an app called SMS Backup and Restore. Been using it for years without issue.
My 7 week old Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 G920VVRU4BOG9, android version 5.1.1. died yesterday for reasons unknown. It is now back on but has been wiped clean. I had to do what I believe is called a hard reset. I don’t care about anything else on this phone but I’m desperate to get back the pictures and videos. By any chance is it possible yet to recover deleted photos off of a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 (G920VVRU4BOG9)? I've been reading about it since yesterday and everything tells me I must root my phone; however, it looks like from what I am reading, even if I wanted to, I canNOT root my particular Verizon S6 model. None of the android data recovery tools appear to work without 1st rooting my phone.
I stupidly do not have a backup of my phone as I believed the VZW cloud was backing up all my data. It did not save my pictures/videos, only my contacts. Samsung tech support was worthless. I’ve disconnected the WIFI and have done almost nothing on the cell today except exchange a few necessary text messages and phone calls. I don’t want to chance overwriting anything if it can somehow be retrieved/salvaged.
I’ve tried Wondershare Dr Fone for Android, Asoftech Data Recovery, Kvisoft Data Recovery, Ease US data recovery. None have worked. Again, from what I’ve been reading, a rooted phone appears to be required in order to locate that lost data using recovery software. The problem seems to be VZW.
Anyhow, I appreciate anyone’s 2cents. If you happen to know of any Geek Squad-like, paid for services, I’m willing to pay someone to get these picture and videos back. Thank you so much for your time!
Did you have Google or Samsung or any other backup turned on?
Yes, I would check Google for a backup of your pictures. I'm assuming no Dropbox account.

I have a Samsung account so I can use the "find my phone" option in case of a lost or stolen phone. I asked them if they offer any cloud backup and the rep told me NO.
I do have a Google account and Google Drive as well. I couldn't find any of my pictures there though. I really appreciate your response though. Thank you!

Try changing your search parameters in Google Play....seems I recall a co-worker having a similar issue that he was able to partially resolve using apps that were specifically for Picture recovery. If that doesn't work, you are to the "find someone who can pull stuff off flash memory" stage.

Thank you. I did try adding those apps- which is great to know they have those! Unfortunately, none of them worked for me. I'm still holding out hope but at the same time realizing the likelihood of getting those pictures back is very slim. Thanks again.

I did check there as well. I had a few pictures from 2014, but nothing recent. Thank you for the suggestion though!
I would install es file explorer on it and just go thru all the folders you can find. Even though you aren't rooted you can still copy files should you happen to find them or cache versions of them. You can copy you just can't modify or write to the system folders and such. I used this just yesterday to copy the launcher apk of my Moto Maxx 2 so I could copy out the stock wallpapers. Haha. Good luck.
