[Q] Internal total space reads 12.05gb not 16gb. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Don't know how I did this but under internal storage my phone's Total space reads 12.05Gb and not 16Gb. I have a 16Gb version. I'm rooted running Liquidsmooths current RC9. I have done full factory wipes and data wipes without any success. How do I reset/format to get the phone to read the whole 16gb? Anyone have any ideas?

You don't. The ROM kernel, radios, etc
Need space out if that 16gb
By the way you only needed to post this once. You'll get answers without multiple posts.

Completely normal, don't know if this is your first device with memory but you never get the complete amount of memory they advertise its always less by a little

Internal Memory Size Zero!

I updated to the latest Gingerbread. I rooted it and it was working fine for a day. I installed ROM Manager to install CWM. While going in for a backup of the ROM, my computed had a blue screen that basically complained about the lgusbbus.sys. But more importantly the Optimus 3D has started to misbehave. After restarting it is now complaining that 'Not enough free space. Clean up your data and try again'.
I am unable to download anything from the market, since there is no memory available!
Internal SD Card is showing 5.57 GB
Internal Phone Storage is showing available space as 0.00B.
Only 3D applications show up. Nothing shows up on the 'Application' list or 'Downloaded' list.
What has gone wrong? Is this a physical damage to the internal memory?
Any and all help is highly appreciated. Thanks.
I don't think it's physical damage as internal memory and internal SD card are basically the same thing divided into 2 partitions. More likely something messed up the partition of the SD card which serves as internal memory. Try formatting the internal memory. It this doesn't work try to restore factory defaults.
Of course you will loose all content you had before but IMO you have already lost it anyway.
I had similar issue after installing GB. When i press format internal card it had not been formated, just show correct free space.
Use titanium backup and remove unwanted apps. It mat get you lots of free space. Also, move app to sdcard using apps like super manager...
let me know if it helps..

Backups

I'm running the EOS wifi nightlies and my backups have averaged around 240Mb on my 32Gb card. I've upgraded to a 64Gb card and flashed CM9 to try it, made a backup and it was 3Gb on a new 64Gb card. Wiped dalvik cach, cache partition and wiped data, reflashed nightly 112 and gapps, made a backup and it's still 3Gb more or less. Anyone have any ideas? I've tried all 3 of the good recoveries with just minor differences. Is there a recovery that will let you format the whole partition?
Come on guys, someone must have an idea.
Not sure, but it must have something to do with the size of the card you're using. I had an extra 1Gb card and I put it in the Xoom and did an nandroid and it came out 974Mb opposed to 3Gb on the 64Gb card.

Do you always talk to your self like this?. It should have been, It may be the card (I am) using.
I am aware that sometimes CWM adjusts the size of your backup according to the amount of space a person has left on their microsd card. You might also want to make sure it is not backing up the internal storage of your xoom (aka /sdcard).

It's on /mnt/external1, just larger than expected.

rebuilding partitions / cm10 / low memory

I am referencing this post to try and get more info from a broader audience if possible
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544702
heres the issue:
I wiped fully my p3113 several times correctly... (data / system / cache / dalvik / etc etc)
installed latest cm10 nightly
i get only 4.59gb onboard ram (see the screenshot in the above link)
apparently the cat who wrote the threat above was able to rebuild the partition to solve this problem... my question is, how does one rebuild the partitions??? which ones need to be rebuilt? can i do it within cwm or do I have to do it within odin?
thanks!!!!!!!!!
First off, don't mix up RAM and internal storage, these are different things! What you are talking about is not RAM. Second, 4.5GB of user-accessible storage is all you get on this tab - it's normal, there is nothing wrong with that! The other thread you are linking to is about a different problem - if you read carefully, you'll see that the OP was only having 500MB available out of 4.5GB. That was the problem he fixed. You have nothing to fix, don't mess with your device.

thank you brother.... my question then is why when I have the stock rom installed does the memory show up as being 8gb internal and only 4.59 with cm10?
is cm10 actually taking up over 3gb of space? and if this is the case what is the best way to use the ext card as the memory to which I install my apps? there is nothing that I have seen that works with cm10 in the memory swap area.

I don't know much about CM, but on every version and flavour of stock ROMs that I tried on my tab (and I tried quite a few), I always got around 4.5GB of storage available. Also, this is what I recall reading from the specs somewhere. Frankly, I can't understand just how you would get 8GB reported by the system to be accessible, whether on stock, or any other ROM... On all devices, accessible internal storage is always significantly less than the total - for example, on my phone the accessible storage is only 25GB out of a total of a 32GB.
A couple of screenshots to illustrate my point (stock-based 4.1.2).
BTW, I'd like to ask anyone to provide a screenshot from any ROM on this tablet, showing a larger amount of available storage. Really, I would very much like to see that.

No problem. The link to the ROM I am currently using is in my signature. How I don't run out of space -- I dunno... I just don't. I am not an app junkie, and I don't install or use any games, so everything works fine for me so far. I am also not using any scripts or apps to swap int/ext SD, or to install apps on ext SD card. The biggest space hogs for me are offline maps (I use Maps With Me and Nav Free) and multimedia (photos, music, videos), and I keep those on my ext SD card.
do you have the 8gb variant or 16gb? also when your running stock rom are you using 4.2.2 jb? if so then thats why it shows up as 8gb. with previous version of the stock firmware it used to show up as split partition 4gb for system and 4gb for internal until samsung offically released 4.2.2 for the GT-p3113

Damn Samsung bastads. This was driving me insane as I just flashed mine last night and thought at first I F'ed it up, then I was going to blame the OS CM-11 for not reporting the full space. sigh this one little sentence puts me at ease. For that, I thank you :good: :highfive:

I can't partition internal memory.

Got a Tab10DUALC Sunstech tablet (RK3066 chip, 8 GB Flash NAND).
As I started to install some apps it quickly became out of space, checking storage settings I found out that internal storage was about 1gb full and Nand flash 5.26gb free.
So I started to search how to root it and after a lot of trials and errors I got to flash CWM and root it.
Now, I wanted to make a partition out of that 5gb non used space but when I tried that with CWM recovery (advanced, partition) despite having doing it correctly, when the tab restarted it all reseted back to the way it was, this is, no ext2 or whatever.
I've tried just about everything, Link2SD tells me there's no SD CARD 2nd Part. I went to recovery and mounted USB and tried partition it with Mini Tool Partition Wizard and while succeed, when restarting, the tab reported bad SD so made me reformat (Link2SD reported unmountable 2nd Part) so it all came back to the way before, no partition.
Could it be some safe measure or something that doesn't allow me to get this partitioned? I've tried just about everything and can't come up with any other ideas. I mean, I don't want to use my only mini SD card if I can help it, I just don't understand why I can't use that extra 5gb while running out of space on the internal memory.
I also tried moving a few apps to SD and got all kind of errors like not loading.
Thanks for any idea on how to fix this.

3 gb internal always used even after formatting. Oneplus 3t

My oneplus 3t always shows around 3 gb used space even after formatting.
I tried fastboot format userdata, and when i get into twrp the internal is around 24gb in which around 1.5 gb is used. Then i would use twrp's format data option and then it will show 54gb, in which around 3gb is used.
This 3gb is showing as others when a rom is flashed and the storage option is selected from the settings of the rom. I have tried fastboot erase userdata and fastboot flash userdata userdata_64GB.img with no luck. Anyone please explain to me why this happens and how can i get rid of that used space. Also i would like to know why after formatting using fastboot , the internal shows only 24 gb.
Thank you.

Did you ever read about this lost space in all phones?
The 32GB phone comes with 24GB only usable, because of the space taken by (system, data, cache..) and other partitions, same for 64GB phones, and other phones as well, 16GB phones come with 11.5GB usable only for media, 8GB phones come with 4.5GB.
It's pretty much like when you buy a 8GB flash memory or SDcard and you get 7 and a few more.
It's normal, don't bother about that.

Thank you for replying. I know and understand that a portion of the total storage space will be taken up by other partitions. But the size of my internal sdcard storage( userdata partition) is 54 gb/64 gb, and out of that 3 gb is always shown as used up. If i connect my op3t to the computer while in twrp, it will show that 51.3 free out of 54.4gb, even after formatting the internal using fastboot and twrp. This 3 gb data loss is my concern. Kindly reply.

try using a space usage app to identify what is exactly taking that space, maybe "DiskUsage" app.
