Several days ago my RAZR HD (4.0.4) stopped playing media through the headphone jack. When I plug it in into my car's auxiliary or try to use several different headphones the sound would play through internal speaker.
At first I thought that it some lint got into the jack. I cleaned it out with no result.
Today I installed SoundAbout app which can force the phone to play audio through the jack. And it worked! That's the partial solution if any of you run into the same problem.
Here's my question: what's the best way to permanently fix the problem?
I just got the phone less than a month ago and don't feel like going into SoundAbout settings each time I want to play music on the speaker or through headphone for the next 2 years.
I'm trying to fix it without doing hard reset or just exchanging the phone - these are the last resorts.
Were you able to get this fixed?? I'm having the same problem...

Hard reset didn't help so I've exchanged the phone.
Bummer! I'll keep scouring I guess. Thanks

Hi,
I've got a problem with the headphone in. When i connect headphones, it works as it should. The problem is when I disconnect the headphones. The symbol indicating that there are still headphones connected, stays in my status bar. So my H1S thinks my headphones are still connected, which is very annoying because for example, my audio isn't working anymore so I can't hear anyone that's calling me.
So how can I solve this problem? Should I start with a factory restore? Or is this most likely a hardware issue?
Has no one else encountered this issue?
Sounds like your jack may be damaged...either that or some file is whacked....could try a hard reset to test...if problem is still there...then your headphone jack is bad...warranty replacement it.

Had a similar problem on my HTC Legend, where it would think a headset was plugged in even when not. It went away after a few days. Try cleaning the inside of the jack too.
Just plug in your head phones and pull them out a couple of times. If that doesn't work take a paper clip and just rub some of the connectors inside.
Happened on my old tp2

Thanks for the input guys, unfortunately neither the hard reset nor cleaning the jack helped, the problem is still the same. I guess I'll send it back to get it fixed/replaced.

Hey guys, I know the title sounds weird but has anyone gotten the problem of Audio coming out of both headphones and speaker randomly while listen to music or watching a video?
I have a 32GB nexus 5 and I was watching a video and all of a sudden the volume went down and I could hear from my headphones and speaker as well. Just wondering if it's just my device or someone else is also having this problem.
If so, you think it's a software issue or hardware? Cause if it is, I'm gonna get it returned or exchanged asap.
Bump. Anyone has this problem?

I accidentally thanked you. Lmao. Anyways, make sure your headphones are pushed in all the way. They may be in only partially.

Lool. Thanks for the thanks.
Trust me I did that. When i watch YouTube sometimes and put it landscape the audio starts coming out from the speaker while headphones are plugged in. I reboot the phone then everything goes fine but sometimes it comes back again. This was the second time so I am worried whether it's a hardware issue of software. I feel it's software.

Just to echo: I had the same problem whilst listening on poweramp on my headphones, I declined a call by sending a text and all of a sudden I have audio coming out of headphones and speakers. Very embarassing on the tube!
I have restarted the phone and all seems to be good, but Google need to fix this.
I got the Mobile on the day before yesterday, and yesterday only I first connected the headphone, and I experienced similar issue. While playing music through PowerAmp, all of a sudden the volume on the headset gone low, and I heard its coming through speaker also. I pushed the jack all the way in, but the problem persist all the day long. when I put the jack in, it starts playing on the headphone only, and randomly it starts leaking. while playing through headphone whenever I press the power button, it starts leaking, whenever I go to the eq screen on the poweramp it starts leaking. along with that it starts leaking randomly. Today after seeing this post I rebooted and till then I have not experienced it again. Please let me know, did u RMA it? or the problem solved?
If anyone else has a opinion or a suggestion please respond.
On a side note, my speaker volume is terribly low, I didn't know there was a shutter sound exist, until I read from the forum today.
Bump
Sent from hell through N5. Oh, yes, it works here too

I have a similar problem with my nexus 7, after buying a new audio jack/ micro USB port assembly. About two days ago the audio just stopped coming out of my headphones and instead plays from the speakers and I have know idea whats going on, if it is the assembly then I've wasted $70.
Bump Galaxy Tab A SM-T550
Same here.. Android 4.4.2. with PowerAmp.
When I'm listening "poweramp" I put to charge the audio leaks from the speaker
Just had that happen on LineageOS 14.1 (based on Android 7.1.2) OnePlus 2
While watching a YouTube video.
After doing some tests I found that it was happening when a notification was received during playback. The notification sound was coming through the phone and after that the media sound was also coming from the phone.

What to you mean???Elaborate what???
I am having this problem as well. After using my Bluetooth headset the volumes will not return to the levels I had without the Bluetooth headset connected. It also happens on my Galaxy Nexus running Kit Kat so I think it is an OS issue. I do notice that the volume icon that comes up on the screen when attempting to change the volume is different than normal as it doesn't have the 2 "soundwaves" coming out of it. I have yet to find a fix other than turning the phone off and back on.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is "headset mode"?

EDIT: nvm, I get it.
Google results suggest that the problem may be due to dirt in the jack.
I tried an app about a minute ago, that called SoundAbout and seems is a good temporary solution for the problem. If someone else tried something else and it worked for him please let me know.

I dont know, I think is a combination of a hardware and software issue. Maybe sth get contacted in jack and facted up my nexus.
My old Xperia randomly did this. Just keep plugging the headset in and out until it clears

This same thing happens to me. Its weird whenever i connect my bluetooth the audio starts to come out of the device's earset (where you put your ear). I have to restart the phone to fix it until I connect a bluetooth again. When I use the volume buttons I see a different bar (like when you are on a call or something) instead of the bar to adjust ringtone's volume. It is super annoying. Sometimes music comes out of the speakers but if I open an app that speaks over bluetooth (waze for example) the music audio stops coming from the speakers and starts coming out the ear speaker on the phone..
What I do to replicate this is to connect a bluetooth headset. Turn on music (google music) open waze.. Audio starts coming out the ear speaker instead of the phones speaker..
Any fix??

Did you find any other solutions for the problem?
I too have this issue. Same on two handsets. Connect to bluetooth and works fine. Disconnect and all future audio comes out of earpiece hole until you reboot and then back to the speaker.
Anyone found a solution for this? I have the same problem.
Workaround

I may have a workaround for this issue.
This problem has been driving me crazy. The first time after a reboot, my Nexus 5 connects to my car audio just fine via bluetooth. But after I shut the car off, the phone's speaker is turned off, and all audio plays through the earpiece. Additionally, the next time I try to connet to my car's Bluetooth, it will no longer play audio through the bluetooth connection (although I can still control the device via bluetooth).
Rebooting the phone fixes it, but it's a pain to always be turning the phone on and off, and if I'm already in my car, it won't re-establish the connection if I restart my phone while the car's still running.
I downloaded the free 'Fast Reboot' app, which essentially closes and restarts all core user processes. Sure enough, launching 'Fast Reboot' seems to fix the problem... at least until the next time I disconnect.
It seems something in Kit Kat is locking the audio to the earpiece after a bluetooth disconnect. I've got my fingers crossed that the upcoming Android update fixes this problem for good. :fingers-crossed:
In the meanwhile, let me know if Fast Reboot does the trick for you too.
Thanks for the workaround, it works well. I think google will fix this in the next update, it only says "Bluetooth fixes" right now but what else are they gonna fix? Well, i hope they will.
RE: OnePlus One Speakers not working!
Hello,
It has been almost 4 months since I bought my OnePlus One and for the past month my dual speakers haven't been working. There is no sound output even when people are calling me. I have to plug in an external speaker or headphones to listen to the audio. Other than that, I can hear nothing. I am currently on the new CM13.0-20151220 nightly and I installed it in hope that this is just a software problem and that a new update will fix it but it still hasn't worked. I've factory resetted and re-booted my phone several times. I've tried installing SoundAbout but that didn't work either. Can you guys help me out?
Sounds like a hardware issue since it remained after factory reset. If you are still under warranty raise an RMA on the website

Make sure your headphone jack is clean. If that doesn't help, go back to stock, using the recommended recovery to do it. Don't install any apps at all, and test the phone.
If that doesn't do it, then you can see about service because you'd be pretty sure it's hardware.
Hello XDA Community,
I have the problem I mentioned in the title. I plug in my headphones and there's no response, the phone just keeps playing through speaker.
Same thing if I plug in the headphones and then start playing music.
I tried a workaround with an app named Soundabout and it worked, so I thought this is a software issue, and proceeded to reset my phone to factory settings.
The problem is that the problem is still there.
I have had the phone for approximately 3 months, and it is not, nor has it ever been rooted, or tempered with in any way.
I would really appreciate some help
