Any have any idea why this could be happening? It started after I rooted the phone and installed ICS was installed. Now I am on Numa rom and I just can't get it working (up to yesterday it worked on a blackberry charger only as weird as that is but that charger died).
Any help would be awesome. (I have no options for upgrade or anything right now so I have to fix this)

Also I have tried 3 different chargers (Motorola backflip, Motorola Atrix 2 and Sony TL)

I have been looking around and the three most common things that may cause this.
#1 Dirty connector in phone (clean with rubbing alcohol and soft tooth brush)
#2 broken pin/connectors (return your phone or get a replacement)
#3 issue with ROM/MOD flashed on to the system (only thing to do is try flashing a new rom)
I'm not sure but I'm hoping the issue is #3 since it doesn't seem to be issue 1. I'm waiting on my battery to charge before I load a rom but will update when I have results.

If it is #3 then you got a bad flash, which I highly doubt that, as you should have gotten flash errors in CWM. If you are on stock, then I would FXZ to the ICS FXZ, because you may have several corrupt files from a bad app install that had root perms (read TI BU or rom toolbox or rom tweaker, or something else just as bad).
I am more likely to lean toward number 4 and that you are not using a stock motorola charging block and cable. It is VERY important to use the stock ones with this phone, as it is quite picky. You can use 3rd party car chargers without issue, but the wall warts I have found issues with the voltages they tend to charge at, and motorola being a real POS with theirs being non-standard voltages. I also have an SGS3 and the A2 will not charge correctly or at all if I connect it with the sammy cable and wall wart, so this should be the first thing you look into.
You should see if att will replace your stock charger, and possibly your phone, as long as it is still within one year of purchase AT&T will do it no questions asked, just call 611 and tell them your issues.

So I used the Motorola charging block with a blackberry cable after I found the blackberry cable works. Therefore I don't think it's the charger more so that the cable probably charges through different pins. Now that the cable is broken I don't have a way to charge it. I tried flashing another rom but that didn't help so now I am working on getting info to FXZ to ICS. I will probably do that sometime today. I have in total 4 Motorola charging blocks (3 with motorola cables, dog got one of them). I have tried all of them but I think the issue has to do with the pins. I have a ticket open with Motorola which I will followup with after I FXZ.
So Motorola wanted me to send the phone to them and AT&T gave me new universal chargers and a battery. It definitely is the connector and I'm out of warranty. Lucky enough the tech was nice enough to make my hour of driving worth it. Thanks Mario!

Connected to the htc charger the phone wigs unless touching the phone while touching the screen. Connected to my vibrant charger it works fine without issue,no need to ground it.
I know people said connected to charger it has issues but its specifically the stock one (atleast in my case, hopefully you too) and the charger itself causing the issue. So get a new charger. Htc will have to make new ones cause these are junk.....

Crazy ,anyone know how or why that's happening inside the htc charger?
I had the problem with.the charger if the phone was on its back laying somewhere and I tried to use the Screen it would go crazy. My replacment charger comes in on Monday. Hopefully they have fixed the problem.

Yep, I have no issues while charging the phone with the stock charger/USB cable.
No issues so far. Charger, no charger, holding it, not holding it. Never any problems with screen responsiveness. But I've only had it 3 days, so we'll see. Knocking on wood while typing...
Dude, you might actually be on to something. I have come to the conclusion that whether anyone believes it or not. The touch screen issue IS NOT a software issue. I really do think that over time, the device is holding on to static electricity which is causing the issues. My old phone that was doing this would stop after I pulled the battery for 1 hour but would start to act back up as the day went on.
Plus, this is the first Android device I've used where the battery starts acting up if you don't use the cable included with the Sensation.
I had the exact same issue. I use my MT3G charger now, as I like the shape much better. I hate how the Sensation charger sticks out so far from the wall.

I too have this problem but not with the stock charger. Since I got my phone I have been using the same old no name charger with no name usb cable. Until I came upon this posting and tried to unlock my phone or type something while it was charged it would go crazy. I even touched the phone as in the video and tried to use the touch screen but it didn't work as normal. Now I have to try and use the stock charger to see if its the phone or the charger it self.

Another weird thing is that even when you plug in the wionky charger, the first few swipes are golden, then about 3 swipes later, wonky.
I've used my old BlackBerry USB cable to sync it and have had no problems. It's really surprising to see so many people with problems...I was actually going to return my Sensation because of the WiFi death grip issue but I don't want to run the risk of getting another one of these issues.

And yea, what's up with this two foot charger junk..lol. I feel like I'm humping the socket using it while charging..
I can certainly say that it the problem affects more devices than you think. I'm not totally sure what causes it but you guys should see my zune hd.. It will literally control itself. Play music by itself, go in and out of menus (super fast by the way). If you guys want a video I can upload one if I can find it... It freaked me out when it first started to happen keep in mind, the zune is perfectly normal and works fine. The charger was one of those cheap chinese stuff.. So it could be a quality issue. I have yet to have the problem on my myTouch 4g though. I had it in a vibrant, hd2, I think even a G2 .

My Nexus1 used to do that on some chargers. Had to turn the screen off and back on to get it to clear up. Figured they were just slightly out of spec chargers and tried not to use them anymore.
I've Owned my S2 LTE I727R for 3 months now, but I've had a serious issue that recently came up.
Whenever I plug my phone in to the Original Charger, I smell a plastic burning smell and it does not charge (plugging into a laptop yields similar results). A quick search indicates that the phone would need to be warrantied/RMA-ed.
My problem is I am rooted, using Sky-Ics RC 6.75 ROM. I am concerned (should i be?) that my modifcation of the phone would void warranty, so I would like to revert it back to stock. The thread in the development forum indicates a usb connection to the phone is neccesary for stock rom revert. Is there a work around for this?
My battery is also currently dead, so to even attempt a revert to stock, I would need to be an external battery charger.
Advice would be much appreciated, I hope I'm not holding 500 dollars of plastic...
the usb port daughterboard only costs $10 to replace. Mine originally came with a rev 4.5 board but i bought about 5 replacements that are rev 4.1 and they work fine in my skyrocket.

Thanks for the quick response. I did take a look around and couldn't find anything regarding the instructions to replacing the "usb port daughterboard".
As for the actual part, does the REV matter? The ones on ebay appear to be oem or Rev 0.1?

if u just decide to email it, simply use any free FTP server from the market and connect it to ur wifi. Upload a stockish looking rom to ur phone and then flash it with cwm. This should work for ur purposes
gounlock.com sells the small daughterboard with the USB port.they carry the different revisions but they just don't have the rev 4.5. They do have the rev 4.1 board on page 2 of the i727 stuff. That's where I've ordered my parts from.

Sorry I failed to even respond to you and just commented. You have a micro sd card? Load up any i9100 ROM on it. Goto CWM and flash to brick. Head over to the closest rogers PLUS store and go WTF!!!!!
They will ask you, what did you do? Nothing. I was sleeping and when I woke up. It was dead. I don't know what happened.
Your replacement phone will arrive via courier within a week. The only cost endured in this ordeal will be the extra battery that you have to buy or the external charger that you have to buy. Or you can even goto someone else that has a I727R and do it right there.

Yeah, join the club. I had the same problem. I started charging it with the cable to the slightly older model of this. http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digit...Portable/dp/B0041OSAZS/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1 It was a little bit nicer quality than the one that it came with. I would maybe get some backup batteries with a charger. I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Anker-1800mAh...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1335451042&sr=1-2 Then you would no longer have to worry about charging with the cable if you didn't want to. For data transfers you just have to be really careful and don't hit it. I'm actually in the process with Best Buy to getting a new phone. Their black tie plan is covering me and getting me a refurbished phone. But those are your options. Good luck..
And just for the record, I ordered them with a jig thinking that would fix my phone. All that I know is they both charge, and I only bothered trying one of them with put my phone into a bootloop very well.
Thanks >>
I used to connect using cable before even for little data. But now I have a folder called temp in my dropbox, and use that for transferring little little files (unto 100 MB or so) and use wifi to get that data from db to my phone. Saves on battery too cos connecting cable for little times multiple times could take its toll on battery too, not just the port.
HeLlO - Kies Air.
I'm using usb cables from nokia and blackberry they fits more stable for some reason.
No problems with my USB port, however I have been battery swapping since December. I also transfer data via drop box or airdroid. I'm really loving drop box, my wife takes pictures and video of the kids while I'm out of town on business and they automatically get uploaded. Works out pretty well.

I had the same problem. Got to the point it wouldn't charge. Called AT&T. After some troubleshooting, they determined I should take to my local service center. It was replaced with a new (refurb) phone. Of course I had to get it completely back to stock. So far happy with the new one. Updated it with stock Gingerbread. Will stay with that for a while.
I've been using dropbox too for data, but it's the charging or charging it in the car that's annoying. Like when using it fir GPS and having the cable pop out all the time makes it annoying. I might try calling att and seeing if I can get anything done under warranty. Should have some time to deal with them soon. Thanks for the ideas.

Just picked up an infuse from my buddy for $50. Good deal except the charging port doesn't work, so I have to use an external charger .
I was wondering if there is a way to flash from junky froyo(2.2.1) to ics or jb roms without plugging into a pc? I just need to get it past the darn 3e recovery. It used to be possible to do it with the cappy but I don't know about the infuse.
Anyone know if it's possible? Or should I order a charging port for 7.99 and solder it on?
Decisions decisions....
As far as I know, there is no way to root without USB.
This question was asked I while ago and if I remember correctly, we concluded it is not possible.
Fix it if you can, it will come in handy anyways, specially since you are interested on ics or jb, so you would need to flash GB bootloaders in download mode.

You keep saying flashing.....is the phone rooted?
The phone is crazy simple to take apart. There are 6 screws under the back cover, take those out. The whole outer assembly comes off just take your time. That will give you access to the usb. Fix it and you'll be good.

Yeah fixing the usb will do... If not get urslf a usb charger
... Plug it in the n ur ready to roll

I think a few users said ginger break (app) works on froyo for the infuse...if it does then you can root using ginger break, the use SGS kernel flasher (app) to flash a kernel with cwm
I'll try and find where I read it...be care full though, you won't be able to Odin or heimdall back to stock with a bad USB port
Edit just released you want ICS/GB...you need USB for the GB boot loaders...if you don't have GB boot loaders then it will be almost impossible to read the ICS/jb recovery

Why would changing the usb port not fix it? Do you think it's a logic board problem?
When i plug the cable in to a wall outlet or computer it does not recognize the phone at all. So i feel like all of the contacts in the usb port are dead; leading me to believe that if i solder in another one, all should function again.
I have an external charger for the battery already, but I can't stand stock 2.2 coming from ICS on my one x haha.

I may be the only one that gets this lucky, but I was having a lot of trouble with my usb port being seen by computer. It got to the point that I had to get the phone ad cable just right to charge. I decided last night I had to do something or replace phone. I powered down phone and squirted lighter fluid in the usb port, then took a toothpick and piece of rag and cleaned best I could. Phone is working great now. All of my cables are charging and being seen by computer.
I was at point of replacing phone anyway,so don't try if your not prepared for failure, but good luck and let me know if you have success with this.

Ya know..come to think of it, I think that resembles water and chlorine dried up on a metallic surface of PCB board doesn't it? I'm still trying to figure out how that happened.
@deathblade:
I had on old solder iron I bought from Big Lots years ago for about $4-$5.
I filed the point down using a whetstone. You can use a file or just the rough surface like cement, brick, clay or just the bottom of a ceramic plate.
The one Zen suggested looks good.
Here is another inexpensive source:

Just take your time.
If you never done it before, open an old electronic part and practice.
I'm not an expert at this. I feel comfortable in sacrifice my phone for parts but I don't like the idea of messing up someone else's phone.
It's better if someone else messes up their phone though.
I did buy 10 of the usbs charging port. If it works and you guys need one, hit me up, I mail you one at cost and stamp. (~$1.70ea + stamp)

Ya know..come to think of it, I think that resembles water and chlorine dried up on a metallic surface of PCB board doesn't it? I'm still trying to figure out how that happened.
@deathblade:

The, I understand where your coming from I do have some experience with soldering but not as much as I'd like I to however have plenty experience with replacing non soldered hardware, and do to past events I don't have any old devices to practice on, I might take you up on that offer for the part, though I wouldn't know how much the stamp would be, as I never mailed anything before, you wouldn't happen to also have any spare power buttons would you? Lol my Cappy's doesn't work, tried to reset the solder as I've heard that might help but instead it turned everything displayed on the screen blue for a while <<<weird lol

yeah. I recalled that. but you need that board and the riff box and others. not feasible for one infuse unless you are planning a side line business of jtagging infuses.
for the cost of that setup, you could buy 2 working infuses or a later phone model

Please keep us informed on how it goes. The naphtha which is a stronger cleaner than alcohol worked for a little while, but I'm starting to have a few cables not read again

I had severed the 7 pins with an exacto blade.
de-soldered the points
cleaned up the points
socketed in the new port
seems to fit
soldered in the new port.
slightly sloppy but seated well
re-assembled.
no reading or charge
I think it's due to poor new pin/old pin contacts.
prolly could have used better equipments or techniques
I left the new port in place and prolly will just send it to the mobiletech guys
i have 9 brand new ports available.
Just an update guys...
I soldered the new port on. My first attempt. Kinda sloppy actually. I wasn't able to clean off the old materials very well as I had concern about over heating the board. I think having the correct materials, solders, flux, magnifiers, and heat shield cloth and such may help. My attempt did not work. I suspect I was not able to get the 7pins to touch or connect properly.
I sent mine to mobiletechvideo without the port.
It's about 10 days turn around. It came back working. I was not expecting it to boot up and was ready to flash it back to stock myself but it came back with the leaked GB KK4 firmware installed. Kinda odd I guess as most of the return to stock on XDA were either UCKE3, UCKJ4 or UCLB3.
Although when I have the Infuse on the data cord at an angle that stress the connection, the computer reports the device as unknown. I suspect it is not as good as factory ship but good enough for me to restore the phone to function.
I'll have to keep an eye on the connection for now.
Conclusion: it can be done..but better success if you have the proper equipment for micro welding.
Glad to hear it's working
